I love how when Chappelle starts laughing he crouches, starts walking backwards and hits the microphone against his leg. It's a signature move.
***** I think it's funny but he overdoes it at times. Like doing it 3 times per minute gets boring. But I still think it's funny.
***** I dunno, it seems like he's just super comfortable with his audiences and almost can't help but feel like a part of it, rather than just a performer. People would pay to see Chappelle even if he didn't have prepared material.
Nicholas Julian True, people would pay to see him even if he didn't prepare himself, he just has a funny personality. I've seen a clip of this guy switching hats in the middle of a show for like 20 minutes, he was like trying out new hats and asking the audience if the hat looked good or not, and that doesn't sound funny at all, but since it's him, everyone was laughing it out. He doesn't even need to come prepared.. he's a natural, I think this guy and Kevin Hart are 2 people that were made specifically for stand up, they are perfect.
***** Was Eddie Murphy even that good? I've watched one of his shows and I wasn't really that impressed to be honest. He sounded a bit too cocky to me..
***** Yeah he was funny in that movie and he is an excelent actor, no doubt about it, and I do understand that back then people's sense of humour was different from the one nowadays and I tried to keep that in mind while I was watching the show but I still felt like he was way too cocky. he was always talking about how good he looked and talking about "pussy" and all of that stuff, which can be funny if used properly. I think that sex is a really good topic for a stand up comedian to joke about and there are a few guys out there that are able to work with it perfectly well, like Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle and even Louis CK, those guys are absolutely brilliant, but I felt like Eddie wasn't that good. Atleast not at first sight. I might give him another shot and watch another show

I'm always amazed by how naturally talented Dave is at taking simple topics and casually speak jokes as if it was easy. I've NEVER not laughed my ass off at his specials. I rank him with greats like Pryor and Fox.

I cannot name a better black comedian than Dave Chapelle(my favorite atleast), 100% right Taron Webb. I know that we all wish he continued with his career in show business(and to infinity and beyond). The only thing that hurts his career is himself. I would probably be similar, once someone does me wrong I say fuck it, give em the finger, and never look back. Dave and I are probably similar in that regard...or atleast I like to think so.

This was the crux of the whole set. He set this up with his comments about "seeing paparazzi" and comparing his own life at the time with being bigfoot, and the wild conspiracies that went with it. He knows that there is an evil in people that wants to see the mighty, powerful or successful fall because that will absolve us of our own fears about falling that prevent us from striving for the heights.
He is calling out the audience for having that cowardly, but entirely human instinct by acknowledging it in himself, even as he has experienced that first-hand. This bit is catharsis for anyone who has felt envious or prideful, even if it subconsciously.
An incredibly well-executed examination of life, hubris and consequence, all through a joke.

That goes for pretty much anyone doing stand up in a comedy club. The audience feels morally obligated to laugh. Successful comedians start to resent it. Just like celebrities resent fans. Can't really blame them. They are deprived of genuine relationships.
