  • The tale of Wilhelm Lyonald, my character, following his adventures in the colony of Erstwhile; full permadeath (PvE+PvP) server called "Eminence" in Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, it carries over some of the core elements that made Haze a success back in the old days: (video about Haze) • True story: Permadeath...
I think what's special here is that it shows live the true value of permadeath and the intensity that it adds to RP.

Thanks. My English is shitty and I'm dyslexic so my common sense gets messy when learning to RP by text. The mood or tone of the text for me is rather difficult to discern. This video helps me to get an idea of what is considered good and interesting RP.

I guess it harms nobody now, so some scoop. Brocath was a murderer, he used to stab the shit out of people, rob them and heal them. Except one time he was stopped before he could do that last part, so he's jailed as a killer. Due to me not understanding any of the systems, Brocath was constantly starving, or dead tired, and bc I didn't know I could just ask a DM to possess an NPC, just lingering around and hoping somebody would hire him as a musician. Also he bought all his bread from the temple at an exorbitant rate (probably an oversight related to the healing items also for sale). With the meager salary from his job cleaning seaweed, he was just dying, probably close to as bad off as Wil. So yeah, desperate (and guilt wracked) he was looking for an angle to frame or accuse somebody and get some bonus scratch, asked Antinua if anyone had vividium for sale with the intention to turn her in, and the thing with the short sword was maybe to tattle to the guards at his intentions. Wil just went ahead and did it immediately, lol. Also Broc died trying to take an extra shift at the mine to buy food, somebody dragged a gator there and I thought a level 2 bard could beat a badly injured reptile with lvl 1 bardsong and mage armor, rip.

I noticed you really like roleplaying with others, but what is your opinion on roleplaying by yourself? Have you ever tried to do this? For instance, I play video games like Kenshi and Crusader Kings and in those games I can get deeply lost in the lives of the different characters that I am controlling in my factions or family dynasty., etc. Now, obviously I can't chat in the game voicing the opinions of the different characters that I control to another human being for them to react accordingly to, but all the same I attach different motivations and personalities to each of my characters as I play the game and I watch their collective story unfold in my head and in the game. Some of my characters make decisions that I personally know will lead to their death or failure in some way, but I am so connected to their distinct personality that I recognize what they would do in certain situations... It's a weirder experience than I thought it would be for me to describe, but I think it is no less worthwhile than roleplaying with others and can be just as fulfilling. I like to take lots of screenshots of their journey and I can retell the stories later to my friends. I have this experience most strongly in certain games where I have control of many characters such as the before mentioned Kenshi and Crusader Kings. I keep inventing new motivations and relationships for each character in my head that I keep in my memory for reference in the future, it's one of my favorite hobbies and I think I am in love with this process and just wanted to know what you thought about it or if you have ever tried roleplaying by yourself. I think there is an inwardly drawn part of us that is very different from the face we show the world and roleplaying in single player is a great way to get in touch with that side of ourselves. :)

I think it's a testament of your creativity and imagination that you can do that, which is great. Generally speaking to me role-playing is all about the interaction with other players; I'm way more immersed when human creativity is responding to me not pre-programmed, AI scripted creativity; so in that sense that makes the experiences in Haze/Eminence (even in such an old engine and dated graphics) more immersive than say Assassin Creed Valhalla. But again, that's just me :)
Although in Haze/Eminence there were people who'd RP to themselves when nobody was around, I think you'll find different views on it. I do it too but to a point, in the back of my mind either a "DM could be watching" or it's just a warm up for when players gather; like when Wilhelm saw the bodies by the temple 7:03 I was role-playing to myself until other PC's (Antinua) showed up, it was a good warm-up too to flex those RP muscles

@@Larpushka Interesting! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have followed you for a while and found you years ago when I was studying Russian. I didn't know about this game but I think I'll try it. If you are still playing it, who knows, we might run into each other, but neither of us would know it ahahah. Your story looked really interesting. Usually I play characters like Ugg myself who are really stupid because I think it allows me to be very comedic and funny in an otherwise serious environment (roleplayers are usually very serious). Something about being stupid also makes it easier for me to approach other people and take dramatic actions such as killing another player. And just like Ugg, it usually ends with my death. But at least he had the halfling to stand by him when everyone else turned against him!
And you mentioned Assassin Creed Valhalla. I agree that I wouldn't be able to get immersed into that type of game either. Even RPGs that I really like such as The Witcher, which I know you like as well, don't really have that element of "roleplaying" to me, even though they claim to be RPGs. They seem more like a movie. The games I was talking about are different from those and don't really have that great of graphics either, because honestly they don't need to (CK3 is just a picture of a map and Kenshi looks even worse than Haze/Eminence) but they do allow you to be so called "creatively immersed" in the world, in a similar way to the roleplaying that you usually do, albeit with a computer AI and perhaps in a less theatrical way because there is no audience of other humans watching other than yourself (which in a way, having no audience other than yourself can give you a lot of freedom in how you roleplay). All the same, I believe that whether you are playing by yourself or playing with others, these desires we have to roleplay are an essential part of our humanity and were even present when we were young kids. Many of us "roleplayed" on the playground as children, or we played even played by ourselves with our action figures or toys and dolls and tried to escape into another world with different characters. These desires we have didn't go away as we matured, we simply invented new ways to roleplay that were more fitting for ourselves as adults, whether it be alone or with others.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :) speaking of learning Russian, I assume you saw my S.T.A.L.K.E.R docu? That's a fun exercise of the language muscles - role-playing in another language, let alone with voice... I remember being so nervous the first time I even logged out as soon as I heard voices because I got a bit too nervous to speak Russian in an RP crowd.
As far as Eminence though it's pretty dead, there was an excitement after the launch but it died out fast, there might be a new incarnation of Haze but time will tell... I'm gonna talk about Eminence from an OOC perspective later on with another video. Glad you're sticking around ^^

U r not the only one that does that. I think rping in ck is quite the norm, and ppl who just play to color the map or achievment hunt are the loud minority.
In fact people even solo rp pen and paper! Thats abit hardcore, but it really gets ur creative juices gowing. Ive done it myself when i had writers block and just needed some interesting characters or ideas for my mods... i basically roll dice on random tables... create a character/a system of governance and topography usually that unstucks me and is quite fun. (Example an Orc Lawyer during the roman empire - the world building and pc personality kinda screems at u from just that tiny description) I usually dont bother with actuall combat, but just generic rolls to see which 'fate' ends up actually happening.
Recently, i did this kind of thing instead of reading my 2yo her good night story... cant really judge the feedback lol, but she seemed as engaged as the reading, and i wasnr bored shitless reading about some wolf and 3 piggs...
