      @ForeverMasterless Před 3 lety +11

      @john smith emotions are not "bad." We have them for a reason, they serve important social and survival purposes. Without emotions you literally wouldn't be able to make decisions. There's that famous case study of the man who had an iron rod driven through his head, leaving cognitive functioning intact but impairing emotional function. HE COULDN'T MAKE DECISIONS. Particularly social decisions. Any given decision require so many variables that no logical brain can process it well enough to come to a "right" conclusion, especially nebulous things like social interactions. We would be paralyzed by indecision without emotion. Not to mention we need emotion to hold society together. We need to feel empathy for those in pain, gratitude for those that have done us a good turn, righteous anger at those who have broken the social contract. Without the fuel of these emotions we would never move on to actions that are necessary to function as a large group. Everybody would take advantage of everyone else and nobody would care enough to see wrongdoers punished. Say it with me. Emotions 👏 are 👏 not 👏 bad. They are, in fact, completely and utterly essential to our species.

    I know this was over a year ago, but I think Dr. K, at the time of the interview, was spot on with Destiny.
    I remember the first time I started watching Destiny, which was only a few weeks ago, and immediately could feel like something was off about him. He felt too disconnected, too suppressed, and the "uncanny valley" feeling definitely was on my mind.
    I know some people have a hard time expressing emotions even if they're feeling them, but watching Destiny talk sometimes felt as if, and to use Dr K.'s analogy, A color-blind person looking at a painting, and not realizing why everyone was so amazed at it. And to use Destiny's logic, he might believe people are only "amazed" by the painting because someone they respect told them to enjoy it, and not because they came to the conclusion themselves, even if the painting is widely agreed to be bad.
    Can't wait to watch the next one with him.

      The irony here is that in case of actual clinical psychopaths, they're usually so good at faking emotions, it makes them quite charismatic and most people don't even notice they're just using them. At least in case of people like Destiny, he's more quasi-autistically open about it in a way that a born psychopath most likely never would be.

    Hey Dr K, I really want to thank you for doing what you do. Your involvement in this community is awesome. Your conversations with streamers showed me that I had a very incomplete view of most streamers and didn't understand or even try to understand them more or the reasoning behind their actions. I was watching Xqc's conversation which was amazing and after I started to listen to the video with katerino and in the first five minutes you talked about shielding yourself from pain sort of and that brought me to a huge realization about myself. I learned that I have a big habit of doing the same and I even figured out why I do it. I decided to meditate on that part of my life and it has been a strange fucking trip!! It's difficult to put into words but again, thank you so much for doing what you do. I feel like this is a major step for me and I'm not sure if I had realised it otherwise

    I used to have a very negative view of Destiny but after a year or so I started to change my overall outlook on people's reasoning and I started to listen more and more just to see what they feel. I was incredibly ignorant and had put myself into an echo chamber as well as blocking out views. I never was political but I always thought Destiny was rude and I didn't like the way he acted sometimes. However, I guess I sort of saw myself within him and I saw a feature of myself that I didn't like. It automatically put a stigma of hate towards him that was unreasonable. Now that I've spent more time listening and getting to know the guy, I found out we have a lot more in common and I guess since I come from a far right family, it's always been hard being the one outcast that has a different opinion. I appreciate and respect his opinions and it's crazy how a year ago I hated on the dude but now after some self improvement, I can be more understanding and learn. Great video and entertaining topics!

    He is a great guy. His ultimate message I think is to remind everyone that the mind is not the soul. That is why he is focusing on mediation, to remind everyone of that fact. The mind is a wild dog that never runs out of energy, and to keep it in line it takes 100% focus all the time. The constant fight between mind and soul does get easier but it is work. If you guys meditate long enough you will become enlightened. Enlightened is a mysterious way of saying you now completely understand that the mind and the individual are two different things. If you look at the mind as the enemy it is a quick way to find just that. When your mind wants to do something, it is just an opportunity for you to tame your mind and say no to it. Good luck all, peace and love.

      Destiny just didn’t seem to see a problem there. Except, that is an important piece of the puzzle, the mind getting rigid to protect itself from cold blooded actions, can forge a lasting effect of coldness in certain people, coldness they apply in their daily life.
      Also, at the end of the video (when he was alone with his chat room), Destiny downplayed the Dr., treating him like he was just a smart guy with no specialization. That’s another way to protect himself from according any importance to introspection.

    I don't know Destiny at all. Haven't watched his streams, just got into twitch around 6 months ago, and seen general clips of Destiny. My opinion on him is somewhat negative because I DO hear and see a lot of very controversial and fairly offensive statements, but I do know his friends and other streamers recognize him as a more genuine person. 20 minutes into the video, I now learn that he's more a openly spoken, pragmatic, and individualistic. Though I would say his most major problem being a slight lack of consideration. I mean, yes he thinks about his next words and statements to assure that he has a solid reasoning to his words, but there is a level of consideration to appeal to people's opinions as well. Not that we should compromise our words just to speak our opinions, but that his words do often come out aggressive and offensive, maybe out of spite or out of reaction. These talks give a great perspective to streamers people may not be invested in, may not know, may not even like at all.

      I think it's mostly because his empathy is rather underdeveloped. He understands and experiences emotions, but they're blunted / ephemeral. Overall I think he tends to be a good person that understands other people, but in the moment, his (lack of) emotions may lead him to say or do things other people interpret as offensive, cold, etc. I think in more structured / formal settings like his debates that's somewhat less of an issue, but I imagine it affects his personal life.
