I like when Dr. K says "I'm gonna think for a sec" and then he thinks for a sec
58:41 😂😂
cuz this is where he does his magic
The moment in the anime where he trusts in himself.
The instance near the beginning when he did it, he ACTUALLY did it for a LITTERAL second! Hahaha! I've seen him do it a lot! But never for an actual second!
Ah yes… the source of his powers!!!
Destiny modelled his emotional development after Cloud Strife in this debate
He says Cloud was an orphan and that's not even true, he had a mother up until he was around 16 or 17.
@@Couragethecowarddog I think he mixed up FF8 with FF7 because Squall was an orphan
@john smith Emotions aren't bad, It's beneficial to be emotional in some cases and it's disadvantageous in other, It's just that for Destiny it was/is mostly the latter.
@@persemus1384 the thing is Destiny has alot of emotions specially anger. He just blocks off certain types of emotions.
@john smith emotions are not "bad." We have them for a reason, they serve important social and survival purposes. Without emotions you literally wouldn't be able to make decisions. There's that famous case study of the man who had an iron rod driven through his head, leaving cognitive functioning intact but impairing emotional function. HE COULDN'T MAKE DECISIONS. Particularly social decisions. Any given decision require so many variables that no logical brain can process it well enough to come to a "right" conclusion, especially nebulous things like social interactions. We would be paralyzed by indecision without emotion. Not to mention we need emotion to hold society together. We need to feel empathy for those in pain, gratitude for those that have done us a good turn, righteous anger at those who have broken the social contract. Without the fuel of these emotions we would never move on to actions that are necessary to function as a large group. Everybody would take advantage of everyone else and nobody would care enough to see wrongdoers punished. Say it with me. Emotions 👏 are 👏 not 👏 bad. They are, in fact, completely and utterly essential to our species.
I absolutely love your videos dr.k! I’ve learned so much just listening to you talk to other streamers. Not only about mental health but the way people THINK. Thank you so much for doing what you’re doing!
Incredibly insightful and im glad you got a chance to talk with Destiny since hes one of the more popular streamers. Keep it up Dr. K
I know this was over a year ago, but I think Dr. K, at the time of the interview, was spot on with Destiny.
I remember the first time I started watching Destiny, which was only a few weeks ago, and immediately could feel like something was off about him. He felt too disconnected, too suppressed, and the "uncanny valley" feeling definitely was on my mind.
I know some people have a hard time expressing emotions even if they're feeling them, but watching Destiny talk sometimes felt as if, and to use Dr K.'s analogy, A color-blind person looking at a painting, and not realizing why everyone was so amazed at it. And to use Destiny's logic, he might believe people are only "amazed" by the painting because someone they respect told them to enjoy it, and not because they came to the conclusion themselves, even if the painting is widely agreed to be bad.
Can't wait to watch the next one with him.
The irony here is that in case of actual clinical psychopaths, they're usually so good at faking emotions, it makes them quite charismatic and most people don't even notice they're just using them. At least in case of people like Destiny, he's more quasi-autistically open about it in a way that a born psychopath most likely never would be.
Well said man.
What? This is the most goofy Dr K convo I've ever seen, he totally flubbed it coming in with a false conclusion, and after a while Destiny just went along with it to be polite. He completely checked out by the end though, taking on the Doc's affirmative tactics. On the plus side, it's nice that it was helpful for you and clearly, many others.
I'm glad, i spend my time watching this video. It helps me personally alot. Thank you

prolly a coincidence, but Dr. K could be reflecting his movements to build up trust, as he seems to do it right after Destiny. Or then it was just unconscious since people do reflect each other sometimes like that

@SinisterMinister it is actually a well documented, well tested way of producing some sort of trust or comfort in which can help in delving into psychology. Not saying Dr. K did it on purpose, but it could be.
Very much enjoyed this discussion!
Hey Dr K, I really want to thank you for doing what you do. Your involvement in this community is awesome. Your conversations with streamers showed me that I had a very incomplete view of most streamers and didn't understand or even try to understand them more or the reasoning behind their actions. I was watching Xqc's conversation which was amazing and after I started to listen to the video with katerino and in the first five minutes you talked about shielding yourself from pain sort of and that brought me to a huge realization about myself. I learned that I have a big habit of doing the same and I even figured out why I do it. I decided to meditate on that part of my life and it has been a strange fucking trip!! It's difficult to put into words but again, thank you so much for doing what you do. I feel like this is a major step for me and I'm not sure if I had realised it otherwise
I used to have a very negative view of Destiny but after a year or so I started to change my overall outlook on people's reasoning and I started to listen more and more just to see what they feel. I was incredibly ignorant and had put myself into an echo chamber as well as blocking out views. I never was political but I always thought Destiny was rude and I didn't like the way he acted sometimes. However, I guess I sort of saw myself within him and I saw a feature of myself that I didn't like. It automatically put a stigma of hate towards him that was unreasonable. Now that I've spent more time listening and getting to know the guy, I found out we have a lot more in common and I guess since I come from a far right family, it's always been hard being the one outcast that has a different opinion. I appreciate and respect his opinions and it's crazy how a year ago I hated on the dude but now after some self improvement, I can be more understanding and learn. Great video and entertaining topics!
Very respectable, good comment
he's arrogant and obnoxious
@@skiddzie9291 You're not wrong, but that doesn't make his positions any less correct or his example of how to approach fact gathering and forming personal beliefs and arguing your beliefs effectively any less helpful.
@@skiddzie9291 He has to be. If you watch any Destiny videos at all or understand any of the people he is arguing against, simple conversations dont happen. He has to be arrogant, assertive, loud, etc because otherwise he would get ran the fuck over. And I don't think Destiny has really logically been that wrong ever on any of his opinions so its infuriating to argue against right leaning dumb fucks or far too liberal woke people who have no real sense of the world. If thats obnoxious to you then sure don't watch it but it doesnt make Destiny a bad guy. Go look at any of his non argument debates and conversations or him just chilling, he is a cool dude through and through, insanely smart.

Really enjoyed this conversation with destiny. Thanks for the insight and self reflection.
Destiny formed completely transactional relationships in this debate
Actually amazing.
Holy shit I’m exactly like destiny and didn’t really know it until ive been experiencing lately with weed and meditation (together mostly), and they put me in this state or reality in which I used to live in with emotions and being truly empathic, and it definetly scared the shit out of me but I’m gonna keep trying to get in that state, it made me realize actually how FUCKING WEIRD this world we live in is, or consciousness, it’s crazy how the experience of the world can shift to a totally different thing
This conversation got me really hyped up for some reason.
This is fucking interesting!
This should be a podcast and avalible to all podcast-listeners
17:24 He sneaks in the phrase “a while manifesto” right after he mentions that he has seen all time top reddit posts of Destiny. Good one Dr. K.
He is a great guy. His ultimate message I think is to remind everyone that the mind is not the soul. That is why he is focusing on mediation, to remind everyone of that fact. The mind is a wild dog that never runs out of energy, and to keep it in line it takes 100% focus all the time. The constant fight between mind and soul does get easier but it is work. If you guys meditate long enough you will become enlightened. Enlightened is a mysterious way of saying you now completely understand that the mind and the individual are two different things. If you look at the mind as the enemy it is a quick way to find just that. When your mind wants to do something, it is just an opportunity for you to tame your mind and say no to it. Good luck all, peace and love.
This talk was so fucking interesting!
Especially the end part were they were just talking about societal states and all that
Here from Destiny's community! I really appreciate the work you're doing, you two should talk again sometime!
The comment about equipping and unequipping the emotional armor has been incredibly true for me. It is a little iffy in how controllable it is and the freedom i have of the on and off but there is a strong sense of control generally. I kind of tend to operate in long periods of one or the other depending on what im doing or focusing on. However I do find myself falling into the habit of armor on because it is easier but the only difference now is that i have alot more internal strife

Destiny couldn’t lie to himself with impunity in this debate
u guys are dumb... literally was NOT A DEBATE...

meaning....the Dr... was just tryna figure out destiny.. then re phrasing what he heard.. and destiny confirming he understood correct...
in fact the full video is literally the main and 1st vid on destinies channel.. because it was LOOKING GOOD FOR DESTINY...
Maa'Quchii The use of “in this debate” is an old Destiny meme, calm down, it’s a joke.
And yes, Destiny lied to himself a couple of times in this public introspection, but the Dr. noticed it and tried to make Destiny realize it, in vain.
@@Svendar ah ok... havent watched destiny much to know about "inside jokes" lol

Maa'Quchii Dude, I’ve watched this 4 months ago, I won’t watch it again for a CZcams comment section answer lol.
One of those moments, from what I remember, is when the Dr. scrutinized the story of when Destiny witnessed her Aunt shooting/killing cats and it was related to the possible sociopathic tendencies of Destiny.
Destiny just didn’t seem to see a problem there. Except, that is an important piece of the puzzle, the mind getting rigid to protect itself from cold blooded actions, can forge a lasting effect of coldness in certain people, coldness they apply in their daily life.
Also, at the end of the video (when he was alone with his chat room), Destiny downplayed the Dr., treating him like he was just a smart guy with no specialization. That’s another way to protect himself from according any importance to introspection.
@@Svendar You have no idea what you're talking about lmao Dr. K within the video specifically said he wasn't trying to imply that Destiny was sociopathic, and your last two paragraphs is just you reading wayyy too into the intent of Destiny's responses. It's unfortunate to see comments like these even when two people are being incredibly clear with what they're saying(not to mention to see this have a lot of likes).

I have the same sort of transaction mentality. Similar to Destiny my emotions appear to be diluted to me but a lot of my social interactions are still very emotionally driven or often selfless.
For big decisions I weight the pros and cons, but don't think of everything like that, just a good frame of mind for me to take decisions. I sort of think of everything as an investment where the quality of my life is the resource to optimize and the things I invest are effort, time, money, affection, emotions, etc.

There are studies, done in the US, concluding that people generally identify with a political party or candidate first and adapt their respective policies after the fact (Achen & Bartels, 2016). I don't know Destiny at all. Haven't watched his streams, just got into twitch around 6 months ago, and seen general clips of Destiny. My opinion on him is somewhat negative because I DO hear and see a lot of very controversial and fairly offensive statements, but I do know his friends and other streamers recognize him as a more genuine person. 20 minutes into the video, I now learn that he's more a openly spoken, pragmatic, and individualistic. Though I would say his most major problem being a slight lack of consideration. I mean, yes he thinks about his next words and statements to assure that he has a solid reasoning to his words, but there is a level of consideration to appeal to people's opinions as well. Not that we should compromise our words just to speak our opinions, but that his words do often come out aggressive and offensive, maybe out of spite or out of reaction. These talks give a great perspective to streamers people may not be invested in, may not know, may not even like at all.
Jovane Jr Mateo I think he values individuality and making sure he is being honest with his beliefs, as well as objectivity, more than friendships. And he’s essentially said this before.
Not that he wants to cause harm, but that his boundaries are extremely rigid and not influenced by others emotions.
@@poadude Yes, he's very honest with his individuality. It comes out narcissistic sometimes though, but it's plainly to be honest and as non-bias as possible. It's definitely admirable, but I think he is sometimes missing some considerations, which makes him easily misunderstood.
@fluoxy L. u really be watchin every destiny video just to hate comment lmao, maybe train wasnt wrong about hate watchers
I think it's mostly because his empathy is rather underdeveloped. He understands and experiences emotions, but they're blunted / ephemeral. Overall I think he tends to be a good person that understands other people, but in the moment, his (lack of) emotions may lead him to say or do things other people interpret as offensive, cold, etc. I think in more structured / formal settings like his debates that's somewhat less of an issue, but I imagine it affects his personal life.
