Dr. K hosts a round table discussion with prominent Twitch streamers in order to address toxicity in streamer communities. Addressing toxicity in streamer communities is a tricky topic since streamers can influence viewers, but can't control if they do toxic things towards others. Topics covered range from Twitch culture, toxic communities, treatment of female gamers, and a scuffed meditation. Be sure to check their channels out and thank them for coming on.

I would love a compilation of the sources that came up in the talk. Especially the Yale one caught my eye and I can't find it on the webs.
You have Destiny there. The most toxic one in the room so discussing it would be pointless with him there. If you think I'm wrong he did this AFTER HIS DEATH. He had NOTHING good to say only "The most █████ things he did". I'm not saying you have to agree with me on this. I'm saying if this would have happened to literally ANYBODY else. They wouldn't be praised but shunned. But guess what Destiny got after this? Praised, His fans are toxic waste and he is the exploded nuclear plant.

Understanding XQC is like listening to a phone call on bad connection - you pick up bits and pieces and kinda have to fill in the rest based on context clues lol
I feel people who watch him actually understand him
Yeah I was the same when i started watching him for the first time but you get used to it
Sahil Ahmed I agree, I’m a regular viewer and this is how I explain how people can get to understand him
Started watching him last November I think, I could just about interpret the sounds he was making. After a few months I could understand easily.
I feel like I understand him better because English isn't my first language
13:03
sweet anita: F off
xQc: Trying to hold his laugh
I felt horrible for laughing at it, it was just too well timed..
bruh the whole time from the start I was cracking up
Man I always feel so bad watching clips of her or on streams like this because sometimes I laugh and then feel bad. Like I literally bite my tounge, esp now knowing it bothers her :(
Not gonna lie I finna laughed my ass off during that part just the timing is amazing
THAT REACTION WAS AMAZING LMAO

"Twitch is a symptom of loneliness"
That's a brilliant, and interesting take on things.
I felt instantly sad when she said this but the truth hurts sometimes
Freq Same here man, idk I have people in my life but still feel lonely...
same here. ever since the pandemic.
I think it's true for alot of viewers, but not most of them. It's just that the loudest voices is those you always hear. The vast majority of viewers are either lurkers or post like one or two messages a stream.
And I think the toxicity is due to the competitive nature of our constructed economic systems while having the luxury of being anonymous at the same time. Many people use twitch as a venting place and have never learned to value others or to be considerate of them.
It's the same patterns of bullying at schools on a different platform that makes bullying easier.
@@Luftgitarrenprofi It's true for me at least.
I clean up with their streams on, and play shooters with the ambient sounds of streamers in the background.
The crossover you didn't expect
I very much did expect it. Because they're all in the same circles.
My favourite cross over. Only a few favs missing
Why not? Basically all these people are on really good terms.
Not the crossover we deserved, but the crossover we needed
The hypocrisy you expected. #destiny #xqc
xQc has good thoughts, but he doesn't know how to express them lmao
I enjoy how excited he sounds though, he's not taking the time to breath inbetween sentences, which is bad but I mean I've met people who just talk like him, he was so engaged and I enjoy it.
Yeah people often say he’s stupid but if you can interpret the things he’s attempting to communicate I think he’s actually pretty smart. People also forget that he’s only been speaking English on a regular basis since he started streaming in English which is honestly not a long time for someone to speak a language with little formal education. I took French in school and I could never speak French on the level that he speaks English.
English isn’t his main language plus he’s Pepega on the outside
Even in French he talk faster than his mouth can
@@Moustashmol Thats mostly because he is speaking French casually, like the way you would speak english to your mates, you dont try to be punctual and just talk randomly.
18:27 This is besides the point, but Anita did such an amazing voice just by saying "Press X" and I immediately imagined some Cortana type character voiced by her.
sounds like the tablet voice from metal gear solid V: tpp
I love how caught off guard xQc got by that, just look at that slow realization.
@@MCOriginal5 ngl I wasn't sure if that was really her and had to reverse it so see if her mouth was moving 🤣
I remember on a stream anita said that her tics can perform voices outside of her conscious range.
Same I had to replay it lol, glad it wasn't just me.
43:51 I love how Devin triggers a blessing tic on Anita when he says "bless you child".
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh yeah lol
Just look at xQc
LMAO
Anita is such a nice gal but I feel like if I knew her personally, I would be afraid to be her friend because I laugh really easily and I would have a really hard time not bursting out laughing at many of the tics. I know she's okay with laughing but like it would be too much for me.
xqc and Lily Pichu, literally the opposite sides of twitch
@Polar That's an awesome take bro.
Yeah, weird that i watch them both a lot lmao
Destiny and Lily would have feel very different from one another I would have never thought someone would watch them both if they weren't very good friends
yea, xQc isn't insufferable and is actually funny, the complete opposite of lily
@@jassskmaster7575 i can't believe you're commenting useless hate on a dr K video.. what do you gain by calling Lily insufferable?
WHY DOES THIS FEEL SO MUCH LIKE A CLASSROOM WITH DR. K AS A TEACHER??? i guess felix isn't helping but it still feels really funny with devin being the teachers pet and xqc being the adhd student and all that
How is felix not helping?
@@THEBACKROOMSEXPLORER7 He's not helping in the sense that he made the stream feels more like a classroom by raising his hand before speaking, like a student.
That was sort of a given though given the participants involved
My only real disappointment was Lily who never seemed to come out of her shell for whatever reason... although I thought Dr K could have done a bit more to draw her out
Jean-Luc Manigat well, she’s not exactly the type to be assertive in a conversation, especially one in a group. Even in her session with dr k, she was pretty withdrawn.

Well English isn’t his first language so it makes sense

doughntworry lol destiny.
I mean you have a guy that streams politics for a living, a guy that streams the business of social media and runs an agency for a living, a guy who streams the psychology of social media for a living and Anita who’s, well, Anita... the fact that Felix could hold is own in that conversation is arguably remarkable enough.
I personally thought he made good points, just not as “big picture” as Anita or Destiny.
@@doughntworry being genuine and being insightul isn't the same thing though :)
I’m genuinely impressed on how smart and on point Anita is, since I never watched her stream before. She makes such strong arguments and talks about things in such an eloquent way. I wish I was more like that, legit wow.
watch her stream. she's an absolute genius. her vocabulary is sky-high. she's probably the most well-spoken, well-read, eloquent person on Twitch. Destiny is very very comparable although maybe not to her level yet. you can do it too; just read more and watch videos of well-spoken people like Stephen Fry
@@funnnnnnnn3442 after this I'll definitely be watching her stream now. I would say I am, not in english tho, since is not my native language. Thanks for the heads up :D
The only issue with Anita is that a lot of time, especially on stream when you ask her a question she drift in a monolog and make a huge straw man about it. But i suppose it's an issue for most of streamers with a lot of viewers, you cant keep a real discussion with them, because they have too much to handle, so sometimes it look like they are talking alone to me.
Her interview with Dr. K was amazing!
@@funnnnnnnn3442 Eloquence doesn't nessecarily mean that you are a genius though. It is rather the way you compress information in the simplest way possible. A lot of "stupid" people speak in an eloquent way to make themselves look more intelligent. Of course this doesn't apply to Anita

People will laugh but its a very healthy way to broadcast that you want to talk without having to talk over it interrupt people.
@Dave David people don't raise their hands like a classroom, but most people will at least raise a finger or signal with their hand (not raising your entire arm like in a classroom). well adjusted adults don't just cut each other off without signaling they're about to interrupt.
@Dave David If it's a deep discussion and you want to make sure everyone gets to talk, yeah. I've had talks with people where after a time it just became a necessity to raise your hand to say something out of respect for everyone else and sometimes you have to wait before chiming in. The reason it's used in the classroom is because it's useful. Why shouldn't we use it in real life situations then? Especially in a video call that's extremely useful.

Also Felix raising his hand and waiting his turn was strangely adorable (especially as someone who was the obnoxious kid in class who couldn't wait their own), and I love how everyone's personalities came through in the ending game/meditation - you maybe wouldn't think it, but even doing little things, it really shows a lot about who someone is and how they interact with others.

I'm actually very impressed this first impression.
It's very bizarre to describe xqc. He is very loud and obnoxious on stream to please the masses of his streams and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Xqc is really like this for the videos where he is talking about real topics.

lol, at 22:43, anita looks at the camera and think "wait, you guys don't pay your mods?"
the next day devin interviewed anita, and she said she was super surprised that devin doesn't pay his mods. the look on devin's face was gold. he felt kinda guilty when he was explaining why he doesn't pay them and he said something like "chat don't hate me please!"
When your own teammates flame you, it stops being a 5v5 to become a 9v1. LITERALLY.
I was watching some lol streamers playing Dota in a lower bracket and many comments from the lol players were about how it seemed like in Dota it was harder to 1v9... It might be generally reinforced in MOBAs that carrying your team and winning the game regardless of their contribution is the most efficient way to climb the ladder.
Life of a bastion main 11v1
@Blue .Barrymore nah man sometimes its so random
46:36 Anita has an epiphany from xQc's thought experiment
On the note of ddos, doxing and Swatting
The problem is that articles are written in ways that focus on the streamer to give it more visibility instead of focusing on the actual crime comitted.
Swatting is even featured in "best of twitch" compilations and such.

This is the reason why streamers being swatted was normalized as a "funny" moment and in my opinion LSF contributed to this idea very hard back then and now

Most of the emote spam are the same and i never understand the appeal to type the same 6 lines every second. These are the people who crave attention from the streamer they’re watching.
Consider this: If you don't participate, it's much harder to learn what is and isn't acceptable behavior. It's scary sometimes, but often the best thing to do is to jump in and find out. It can be painful, but you'll never find out if you never even put your toe in the water...

because it's not off the top of her head? most of these streamers, except maybe Lily, probably spent a large amount of time previously thinking about these topics
No joke, this was one of the first hour+ long videos ive ever ACTUALLY sat through. It was such a good conversation/experience and gaining insight on each of their perspectives was pretty dope. Anita blew me away with how solid her points were and genuinely made me feel so damn bad for all the bs females in general have to deal with when it comes to the gaming scene.
It felt like everyone here meshed really well with eachother. Even when xqc has issues getting his point across due to language barrier and his choice of words, you could just feel what he clearly meant, and it was nice to see Dr. K Hone in on that ability with the mediation at the end. Legit such a great ending to a great stream.
xqc actually speaks english really well, he just can't think of the right words to use.
The point about a vocal minority being able to totally change the chat is interesting. I remember reading about people paying for 5% of an audience to come and cheer at opening shows/concerts in theatre and other public performances to make sure that the whole audience was more receptive and that point was kind of the opposite effect. Also xQc was actually so cute in this.
"Women are manipulative for having breasts" That about sums up how it seems sometimes being a women online.

@@jmanig76 nah nobody really calls beyonce a harlot

It's the girls who act as if they don't have breasts, that people have a distaste for. Ether they are that naive, or they are in fact manipulating you.
IKIGAI when ppl talk about the double-standards against female streamers and the way they dress, do you think they’re talking about beyonce?
Either you misunderstood which female public figures were being referred to in this discussion, or you’re misrepresenting the argument.
anita is super underrated imo she’s extremely intelligent and super perspective on how people on twitch work.
and some minor critique to dr.k, you need to let people finish their thoughts, even people like xqc no matter how fast he talks.. he seems to get frustrated when he gets cut off and i would be too. you also cut lily off a bunch too before she even could say 4 words.
Yeah dude needs to give people longer time to process and gather as well as get the words out
One of the things I like about Dr. K is that you can say this to him point blank and he will react with zero % defensiveness or insultedness and just process it. I think I find comfort that he is so much like a robot, lol.

This is a fantastic way to discuss an issue that's really difficult to manage and quite intimidating.
I seriously enjoyed this discussion! More please! 👌🥳
01:10:10 Does he begin with a "K" and end with "eem", by any chance?
Yep
xqc is like a kid lol you cant not love this guys personality
I love this guy tho.... He screams louder than my slave
Lad That’s hot.
@@lad2987 bro????
He's cute now but when he's malding??? That's when el goblino comes out
I like him but his community is more toxic that all five others combined
This was a really positive experience to hear the different perspectives from people who have to lead these communities. As a viewer, drama appears and disappears as fast as I can keep up with it, and it really distances the viewers from the personal conflicts that these creators have to deal with. Thank you for providing an output for this information, as I think it really helps broaden the perspective of those that may never be in these positions.
I’ve noticed something that comes up a lot at the start of the conversation, and it’s that a lot of issues happen because people get satisfaction or attention from them. I genuinely wonder what happens in a person’s life to make them so unhappy or lonely that they get satisfaction from getting negative reactions from streamers or trolling their own team in game. Like to understand and help all these people, you’d need to find out the issue that’s making them do this toxic behavior to fix it, but that’s impossible to do for everyone on the internet. It’s very defeating to realize that there’s no real way to fix the toxic behavior of people on the internet.
There is, it's just not entirely or really at all a streamer's job. Content creation isn't foster care. Anita's educational content was the byproduct of a moment, and maybe a necessity given society's relative ignorance relating to the topic. But that's not fixing toxicity as much as it is fixing ignorance, which is a common theme among content creators.
Destiny gets so heated in debates and you never really see him look like he's enjoying himself, so seeing him look genuinely happy while messing with Lilly is heart warming.
I think it would be cool to have a follow up episode with just Lily and Anita. It seemed like they didnt get to speak as much as they wanted to
Anita I thought got her points across, but Lily didn’t seem comfortable at all the whole time. They even tried giving her the floor a few times (xQc of all people in particular was quite graceful about it) and she didn’t take it. I don’t know if like you said she’d feel better in a one on one environment, or if it was just timing given everything going on at OTV these days.
that was a really nice episode, i listened to the whole thing
Another great stream, with a great topic, good takes and amazing people
This is cool, a crossover I never knew I needed.
I really like sweet Anita's take on everything, she's really good at explaining things.
Giga line-up and very important issue for the streaming industry. The major thing I took away was the importance of rewarding and reinforcing good behaviours in communities and be willing to take a stance when it counts. Thanks for bringing together some of my favourite influencers on Twitch, and great work mediating the discussion Dr.K!!!
That was really nice of xQc to ask where Anita was in the group meditation.

I had never heard of Devin but I REALLY love his perspective on things.
I think this is so far my favourite video on HGGG :D
Bro wait what, that meditation seems really awesome for team building as well. I wonder if I should try and implement this in coaching.
I’ve done meditation with teams before and enjoyed it. We also did visualization practices with our meditation which i found frustrating and ineffective because I have a weak mindseye but other teammates found it useful.
Loved everyones contribution but Anita blew me away. Huge thanks to everyone for discussing these problems within the gaming community
Sweet_Anita is really well spoken, it was really awesome having her perspective in this interview!
I appreciate that she took the effort to join the interview looks like it took a lot of effort to keep things down for others.
Her ticks didn't bother me at all
I recently got hate from a group of people online because they thought I had filed a report against my ex because he was harassing me, so they were calling me names in public twitch chats etc, when you're ignoring something, it slowly fizzles out, but it feels so unfair to be enduring such a pain and injustice, keeping quiet feels like all those years you maybe kept quiet while someone was abusive to you etc, staying quiet is so, so difficult.
I'm part of the "silent majority" of viewers. Most of the time, I hide the chat when watching someone on Twitch, unless I am watching a very very small streamer, and I know the community. I don't understand people randomly throwing hate out there.
