Do you see the little microphone down in the corner of the screen? You don't need to type in the address. Just press the little microphone and speak it. It's safer than typing in your phone while driving. I believe that's the point

Google recently updated Android Auto and now allows you to use google maps while plugged in before this update I'd experience the same issue explained in this video. They're definitely behind Apple Carplay. With the recent updates and planned updates they're catching up to Carplay.
I'm not sure what your problem is but ı can type on Google Maps just fine when using my phone - it also isn't laggy at all and the apps don't look bad to me at least.
It's so bad to say but android auto compared to carplay is terrible, had to reinstall android auto for no reasons shitton of bugs on multiple cars... ( and i say it like i don't even want to touch an Iphone)
I tried android auto in many different cars and that's my opinion: android auto sucks 70% of times but depends from the car, for example in a 2023 citroen c5 is very laggy and some times i need to unplug the cable and restart it, but in a 2017 ford focus it always work smoothly. Btw the best one i tried was toyota corolla 2023, faster than my smartphone lol

Not gonna lie, I think you're just dookie my boy. I have an S21U and I can type in the address while using Android auto, I do it almost everyday, no issues. Screw iPhone.
