HOW about a interview with John Koyama!
Please do arrow verse stunts or even better the movie tag with Jeremy Renner
The timestamps for the last two chapters (before the outro) seem to be mixed up :)
14:23 The Fate of the Furious
15:43 Day Shift (Car Chase)
The description and hence the chapter display has them the other way around at the moment. Great episode as always, now I really wanna go watch DayShift.
You do realise Betterhelp sells the data from the sessions with the so called "therapist" I would'nt support that as it is clearly against confidentiality and the way they do that is because they are not legaly therapists.
how the fuck did you get to show footage of the eiffel tower at night
The fact that Perry also mentions the team that got to work with him really made me smile.
Yeah that's a class act right there.
yeah its always nice to see them give credit to the team. he may talk like he did 4 lines of coke before coming on the couch and is SUPER pumped haha but he seems like a chill guy
Yes! Love the pros that recognize it's a team effort.
Well yeah why wouldn't he ???
It's the bare minimum, not really worth praise.
I love how he’s always like “ here comes this “ here comes that “ really shows he loves showing people his work and what goes into it
This is part of Movie Magic that makes these types of movies so good. The Stunt Men and Women are just as much a part of it as the big name actors that star in it.
Yeah, those beats seem so well-drilled that they're with him forever!
I really appreciated not only Perry's expertise, but also his really great sense of humility. Not only did he repeatedly point out how certain things were not HIS accomplishments but rather that of the team's, and how grateful he was to work with them, etc, but if you notice he also starts to say "he's going to be working with me again" at one point and he IMMEDIATELY catches himself and rephrases to "I'm going to be working with him again". This is clearly a fellow who values duty and respect, so respect to him in return 👍.
Awesome episode as always guys, I'll take a note out of Perry's book, here, and express my own appreciation for you guys and the great content you consistently create and provide for us 🙏 good health to you all.
Came looking for this comment. I really liked that rephrasing moment too. Such a subtle change that makes a huge difference. And the awareness that that subtlety is important enough to warrant the rephrase made it into a case study all its own.
He just really resonates as a good and grateful leader who’d demand a lot of you, and value & credit you accordingly. He strikes me as someone I’d want to work for and keep working for.
Love Perry's humility, passion and charisma. You can tell how passionate he is with his work and craftmenship. Such a great story teller too.
You guys should check out the work of Jean-Paul Belmondo. He was basically Tom Cruise in the 70s and 80s, doing most of his own stunts, some of them pretty wild. He transferred from a speedboat to a helicopter in Venice (Le Guignolo), from a helicopter to a plane (Animal), hung off a cable stretched across two buildings in Brasília (That Man From Rio), filmed a chase scene in real traffic in Athens (The Burglars), ran across some rooftops and then a subway train in Paris (Fear Over the City) and in general did all manners of dangerous stuff for the entertainment of the French masses. And we love him for it.
In La Casse, 1971 (The Burglars), he was tipped out of the back of a truck down a steep hillside with rocks bouncing all round him. Marvellous stuff.
Anytime I hear his name I hear Moriconne’s Chi Mai.
Yeah, I've been suggestion Belmondo for the last few episodes ! Can't beleive they didn't talk about him yet !
When they asked for stunts from the '70s, Belmondo was literally the first thing that sprang to mind. Crazy how such a big name of the time did all these crazy stunts himself.
Second this suggestion.
Gui's got the best role on these shows! He gets to talk about his passion all the time to a public audience, and on this show he hangs out with other famous people who he gets to call his friends AND his colleagues. Dope AF
I love how Gui isn't a guest anymore, he's just part of the team.
I'm so glad they made Gui a regular part of these.
Took an improv class with Gui in 2018 I want to say and to say that he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met is an understatement. He’s still supportive to this day and deserves every single good thing he gets
Wow, the fact that he knows Vampires didn't show up in old mirrors because they were made with pure silver on the back, which was always considered the purest metal, made me respect him and this film so much more. Besides the huge amount of respect I just gained by learning how these stunts were done.
that i didnt know
J.J Perry seems like an absolute beast and a cool dude. So fun that you guys got him on the show.
That man's funny, great episode. You can really feel that he loves directing/pulling out crazy stunts, feels very genuine
Never stop doing these. I could listen to guys like this tell their tales forever.
I love when you guys get absolute legendary guests on the show & Perry definitely falls into that group.
Wow!!! J.J. Perry is an absolute legend in the stunt's world! He and Larnell Stovall were the coreographers behind Undisputed 2 and 3, and he had suit up as Mortal Kombat characters in Annihilation and Conquest years before. You guys should invite him more often! HE means absolute business!!!
Day Shift does look great, I've never even heard of it. But yeah, the vietnam vet chopper pilots, they were not only amazingly skilled but had zero fs to give. Some of those chopper stunts in the 70s and 80s were incredible
Didn't expect it to be so fun but honestly, it's Really good
It's a really good movie! Check it out 👍
It's surprisingly great!
never heard of it either
It's kind of awful, but it indeed has some good fights.
This episode was awesome! The energy Perry brings is unmatched
It felt so wholesome to just sit here and watch this gentleman thanking his crew left and right.
He's like a proud dad lol
What JJ calls "Redneck Energy" I call legitimate passion for his craft. Sometimes he even notices that he's flying off the handle and has to rein his excitement in, and that's both cool and adorable at the same time.
That guy has such a good charisma. He's really cool and likable, down to earth.
One of your best episodes yet. Perry is a monster and offered so much. Kudos.
Perhaps the definitive 70s car stunt would be the 'corkscrew' bridge jump from THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. Surprisingly sophisticated, involving early computer visualization and a specialized build for the car itself.
I came here to say this. It’s played for a gag in the movie but you’re right it is a massively underrated stunt.
The corckscrew bridge stunt was in Live and Let Die. An amazing stunt ruined by a slide whistle sound effect. But the Moore era Bond movies would be a great place to go for some pretty nice stunts from the 70's and early 80s.
@@CapPigDog Argh, I always get that wrong, thanks!
And also yes, it's possible the Crew etc are young enough not to have seen the ski jump from THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, which is also essential.
@@CapPigDog it was definitely in The Man with the Golden Gun. A quick google will show you this.
I’m just gonna keep asking for Stuntman react to Pink Panther: clouseau vs cato fights. There’s a whole bunch of them but the later ones are the best. They’re pretty cheesy, super destructive, but a lot of fun and have some pretty classic stunts
The only word that describes this guy is “rad”. One of the best guests they ever had on here. Get him back more. Fantastic episode.
This isn’t 70s but it’s a fascinating period between practical and digital. What about an episode on True Lies? So many insane stunts, and also Digital Domain’s first film. How did they get the shot of Arnold swimming under fire? And the shot of him rescuing JLC from the limo? Among many many other insane practical stunts and innovative CGI. Love the show!
This mans energy is off the roof! Would love to see another episode with this legend!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Excellent insightful interview. Thank you for the technical perspective. As a Trauma Therapist for Hollywood Stunt Men and Women, I really enjoy seeing the technical "set up" of the gags.....so if someone gets hurt while filming and I am there, I can be more efficient in helping them.
Perry just seems like an overall humble and awesome guy to work with, never takes soul credit and makes sure to shout out and praise everyone involved not only the stuntmen, I respect this man
His energy and enthusiasm is actually next level huge it's inspiring!
Man I could listen to this dude forever. Really sells the craft and the people that did it
If you want stunt examples from the 70s, I highly recommend The Stunt Man, its 1980 but its not only a tight psychological thriller, but its got some great stunts AND shows how some were done
It also has great physical FX.
How tall is King Kong?
That's a great film
The Fall Guy and Magnum P.I. had some pretty good stunts in them, too. 🙃
@@jedironin380 Especially helicopter stunts
Just wanna reiterate that having Gui as a host is perfect and I love it every time
1:41 "Buckshot mouthwash baby" Hahaha love it
Another amazing episode! I've noticed a trend with stuntpeople that they're always the last people to accept credit for things. They will acknowledge every other person during the process and give them credit instead. It's amazing
J.J. is such a cool guy. Love the humor and how chill he is.
The Poseidon Adventure (1972) was pretty wild. Lots of people falling when the ship flips upside down, underwater scenes, etc. I heard a lot of people got injured making that movie.
Your presentation style is top notch. The way you interact with your audience is really appreciated. Your confidence and enthusiasm kept me going from start to finish, making me feel like I was right there with you, experiencing the magic of these animated films.🎉🎉🎉
I still can’t believe the people you guys get on the show. This is really special.
I have said it before but it deserves repeating.
This series gives me such an appreciation of stunt work and the people who do it. Some of the Unsung heroes of the film industry
You can tell this dude is passionate about his work. It’s amazing
JJ brought some amazing energy and stories to this episode and I hope he comes back for more episodes in the future
Out of any of the various effects in movies the practical effects blow me away every time. Next level stuff
Its always nice to see a director that is so good as their craft and also so humble.
I'd say this is one of your top five stunt episodes of the year. Lots of great clips, information, and and five star guest.
Day Shift was an absolute banger! Highly rewatchable! Just awesome.
All of the Hal Needham/Burt Reynolds movies had those classic car stunts or barroom brawls.
Burt Reynolds directed a movie set in Atlanta called Sharkey’s Machine which boasted a record stunt fall from the Hyatt Regency Downtown.
There was a show in the 80s called the Fall Guy about a stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter. Hilariously fun with crazy stunts and its being remade into a new action movie by the guy who did bullet train
one of your best guests ever! such great energy and great insight into these stunts
You should review the multiple stunts from "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Especially the "Plane through a hangar" scene.
Didn't a plane also fly through a billboard?
Yes. Thing thing is, they just flew a plane through a balsa wood bill board.
I love how you guys give each and every stunt performer a shout out + props.
This guy was incredibly passionate about the work he's put into things and his knowledge was certainly something worth listening to. Would love it if you had Perry on here again.
"...worked with some of the greats, the greats, the greats..."
Man, someday I'd love to finally be able to say this. Must be a truly rewarding feeling.
If you're doing car stunts, the original Italian Job's final chase scene features some neat stunt work. Not high octane by any measure, but some really clever stuff, and they got to shoot in places you wouldn't expect them to get permission to.
The roof jump is the stuff of legends, they had a car on standby to rush the director to the airport so he couldn't be thrown in jail if it went wrong.
@@jinbee2627 that part did indeed look sketchy as hell on screen!
JJ is such a great guest, I've seen every single VFX, Animators and Stuntmen/women react and he's in the top 5 coolest guests
OMG. When I was watching Day Shift, I thouht that all of openinng sequence was made as CGI. I'm in shock now. A lot of practical effects. Great work!
The fact that a tool nicknamed "Russian Arm" was rebranded to "U-Crane" is just phenomenal.
Weekend Time!
BRO that Silver mirror revelation BROKE ME! I thought I knew everything about Vampire lore but I never thought about that!!!!!!! genius
So happy you guys mentioned Marko Zaror.... My favourite stunt man of all time
Stunt from 1955: Check out "The Court Jester" and the final swordfight scene. It uses a lot of classic sword stunts with very little safety measures and some amazing acting as well.
That fight is so good
Best stuntmen reacts episode in a while. You guys are crushing it, don't ever stop!
For 70s stunt work you should look at a lot of Australian films of that time. The Man From Hong Kong and other stunt films with legendary stunt man Grant Page. They are absolutely wild
I don't think I've seen a single movie this guy has been involved in but I love his personality! He's super interesting and humble and has a great sense of humor.
There's some insane car stunts in Hooper (1978). I think you may have covered one of them in a previous episode. But there's a bunch of other stuff you should check out. Even the scene at the beginning where a bunch of stunt guys are in a caravan together bumping in to each other on the freeway. It's pretty crazy.
I'm rewatching some TNG/Deep Space 9 recently and I've noticed that some of the fight choreography is surprisingly well done. Kira Nerys' scenes come to mind. I know its a long shot but if you were able to do breakdowns of those? Theres a great shot where a cardassian gets hit with a phaser and really sells the impact of the shot, especialy since the phaser effect is completely post production.
70s stunts, you have to talk about dukes of hazzard. So much fun history behind the car, the amount that we’re destroyed during production, stunt records that were broken on the show. It’s a great piece of stunt driving history
So good! Love Corridor Crew and all they do. Entertaining but also educational!!!🧑🏼🏫👩🏫💛💛
Those helicopter stunts are insane. Literally like something you'd see in GTA online
the rundown is such an underrated film
How about a little 'thunder'... and 'lightning' lol.
@@Stand_By_For_Mind_Control so many repeatable lines and watchable scenes from that movie.
The Rundown just isn't very well remembered (it came out 20 years ago don't forget), I wouldn't say underrated. Underrated means that people are underselling how good the movie is en masse. No one talks about it anymore though, so it can't be underrated. I think pretty much everyone who does remember The Rundown likes it. It's got an average of 6.6/10 on IMDB out of 109,000 votes, that's pretty great for an action comedy.
Put your hands in the air, and step away from the monkey. Bull stampede to bagpipes is a great scene.
@@choronos l liked welcome to the jungle l still remember it
That was an excellent episode. Great job, guys!
Oh this was good! I love it when you have guests on the couch.
SUGGESTIONS: The Blues Brothers (car in the mall scene) and Omen II (various stunts).
1978 The Great Train Robbery - Sean Connery doing his own stunts at the end of the movie running on top of a moving train, barely scraping under some bridges. Amazing stuff!
Crazy to see such a legend on this show! Most people don't realize just how much of modern pop culture has had JJ's touch.
JJ's touché
The drone shots in Day Shift blew my mind, was so cool to see that in a proper movie. I can't wait to see even more crazy stuff be done with drones.
SUCH a frikking legend JJ, He was a boss Sub zero on Mk conquest with Chris cassamassa, and loved his stunt work ever since!!!! 😅😅 Touchayyy!!
JJ Perry is such a character and a professional. He would be a blast to have in a film crew!
Holy shit… that fall from the top of the mountain is wild. Do they walk around the area and make sure there is no rocks or hard objects that their head may hit? That was stressing me out haha😅
One of the best episodes. Definitely worth it to see the whole thing on the website
I absolutely loved day shift. Thanks so much for this breakdown
Not from the 70s but from the 60s: I'd really love to see you guys reacting to the stunts from "Its a mad mad mad mad world"
JJ is awesomely awesome 🤩 He could have his own channel. A real legend in the industry. So much personality and experience. Got to have him on regular.👊🏻
Rundown (Welcome to the Jungle) is one of my favourite action films to this day. Amazing stunt work.
I always watch these on the app, and as nice as the extended episodes are, I'm just continually grateful your app doesn't suck. Like truly, it works great so going there to watch is nice... And then commenting here for that algorithm 😂
Not 70's, but the Blues Brothers Movie is full of car chase scenes and has a great visual effect at the end when it falls apart. I would love it if you guys looked into it!
I loved the absolute chaos and destruction and comedic climax to that awesome chase scene.
The contortionist are really amazing. They make that look so creepy and good.
I have to give a shot out to contortionists and amputees in the industry. They really help to sell a lot of BRUTAL hits
J.J. dropped vampire lore about mirrors. That blew my mind.
J.J. is such a great, funny guy. I hope to see more of him sometime on the show.
Finally, some insight into the fabulous twisty-bendy-ow-looking-at-that-makes-my-back-hurt fight scene from Day Shift. JJ seems very cool.
Another amazing video! I would LOVE a react series with an animal trainer for the stories, and how VFX has affected or changed animals on set.
Not sure he knows what Touché means...
He's been my least favourite guest so far. So brash and cocky. Great work, but not incredibly humble
@@3urobob This is what happens when you leave mom's basement.
@@3urobob its showbiz baby!
@@duckfield2520 ironically talking like that is more terminally online than what the other guy said
@@3urobob nah man he's fun, confident, and knowledgeable
2:22 What a great piece of trivia! Mind blown. Any time someone brings up anything to do with vampires, I'm pulling this card out. Thanks JJ!
Lowkey one of the legends of stunts his stunt work always makes me feel like I'm watching true art
I don't know if this dude is on the spectrum but he gives off that energy and it makes me feel represented. An incredibly talented and engaging guest, you should totally have him back on
That man is a legend , 2 epis of his participation was soo funny i love it 👏
perry you are a super fun guy, thank you for sharing your stories with us!
I know it’s 80s but I’d love a talk with Jack Gill, specifically about knight rider and the jumps they did back then. Also know he’s worked on a ton of stuff since as a stunt coordinator and driver, so he’s definitely got a treasure trove of stuff to talk about
There's this amazing helicopter chase in this b-horror action film from the 80's called Nightmare at Noon. Two helicopters playing a game of cat and mouse, and its honestly amazing to see. Whole movie has some awesome stunts, but that chase stands out.
Thank you so much for bringing Mr. Perry, huge fan of his martial arts and stunt choreographies in Mortal Kombat franchises. ✌️
easily my favourite franchise on youtube and this episode was no different! top quality content from awesome humans!
Im a sucker for those episode. Id watch hours long of stuntman react if I could.
Not sure if you’ve reacted to this but there’s a great horse chase scene in The Mask of Zorro.
If they’ve already done it, if someone can let me know which one it was so I can rewatch it. Thanks.
Hackman chasing the El in French Connection. It might not be the flashiest chase by modern standards but it's absolutely iconic.
I love this series! Many Thanks.
