This is a minor thing but I really love that Mr. Miyagi didn’t say “I feel like I am Samantha’s grandfather” but instead said “Samantha *makes* me feel like I’m her grandfather.” That shows he didn’t come into the situation with any sort of expectation or entitlements with Daniel’s family but instead that little girl must have shown him so much love that he truly began to feel like kin to her. That’s just really beautiful to me.
Totally agree. After a while, especially in superhero shows, dead characters stop having much of an effect on the characters that are still alive but here, Miyagi never stops having an effect on Daniel. Daniel brings Miyagi into every lesson he teaches and never forgets him

I know right she never got married because nobody ever saved her life during a duel she never forget about Daniel doing that for her risking his own life against Chozen to protect her honor.
When Kumiko broke down reading the letter that felt real. The actors genuinely felt like they were trying to keep it together in this scene, making it feel that much more impactful knowing the emotions behind it were sincere.
It was also the fact that the Tamlyn Tomita was also filming with Nobu McCarthy another project when McCarthy passed away suddenly. I recall them being pretty close.
“Until I met Daniel-San” I realize how accurate this is because when we first see Mr.Miyagi in the first film when Daniel asks him to fix the faucet, he came off as standoffish. I’m actually amazed how the writers looked deeper in to that.
They basically mirrored that relationship with Johnny and Miguel in season 1. Johnny initially didn’t want anything to do with Miguel, but eventually came to care about him like a son, the same way Mr Miyagi did with Daniel.
Probably the most touching shit I’ve ever seen. Had a 38 year old man shedding some tears. Pat has to be looking down smiling. The writers deserve some type of award for this.

The thing I really love about this scene is that it humanizes Mr. Miyagi in a way that totally opposes Daniel's idealistic view of him. Daniel always viewed Mr. Miyagi as a "can't do no wrong" sensei who has "all the answers," but he realizes in this very scene that the man is actually more like him than he realizes with his fair share of flaws, regrets, and struggles.
It must have been so emotional for these actors. Imagine that they were playing these characters 34 years ago and Pat Morita (mr. Miyagi) and Nobu McCarthy ( Yukie) are dead now, and Daniel and Kumiko are just like mr.miyagi and yukie then. Just wow, amazing scene.

Daniel needed to absolutley hear this. Daniel viewed mr miyagi as probably the perfect man who could do no wrong and knew everything. But daniel forgot he is just a man who had his own life struggles, and hardships just like him, and the rest of us of us in general. And its these human moments why i love this show
The bond between MIyagi and Daniel is strong because "the roots are strong." Whereas Miyagi was a teacher who lost a infant son, Daniel was a student who didnt have a father, both became more than teacher and student. Whereas Sato said, the student becomes the teacher. Both Miyagi and Daniel are kindred souls, the letter expresses he can leave his life in peace knowing he had a student whom he loved as his son and all his knowledge and wisdom will be honored for generations after him. A very touching moment.

This part was my breaking point. Ralph's reactions.. the wavering voice of Tamlyn when she's reading these letters. Pure excellence. Pat may be gone, but he will never ever be forgotten.
Throughout the entire Cobra Kai series the writers have done a beautiful job of honoring Pat Morita’s (Mr Mijagi’s) memory through letters, mementoes and appropriately timed brief flashbacks. Even through five seasons now I still find myself tearing up every time Mr Mijigi is mentioned or subtly referenced. It just goes to show what a iconic and beloved character he is to this franchise.
This is probably one of the best scenes I have ever seen in cinematography. The emotion, the expressions, the lines, everything. Those were not fake tears, but real tears reminiscing over the long beloved Mr. Miyagi. I typically never let emotions overwhelm me, especially with movies and what not, but I couldn’t keep it together while watching this scene. What a perfect way to allow Miyagi’s legacy to continue through this series.

Real shit, my face had streams down it, haven't cried this hard excluding being drunk and stoned since I lost someone close to me, had to run to the bathroom cause I had to "take a shit" but that's when I broke down, everyone tears up during some movie and show scenes but this hit the hardest
Plus, Nobu McCarthy (Aunt Yukie) had a similar background to Tamlyn Tomita (Kumiko) in real life so she became a close friend and mentor to her after the second movie so Tamlyn wasn't just getting emotional for Pat, she was getting emotional for Nobu as well.
When she translates it to grandfather, I think we all felt that emotion. So compelling, and I love how they keep Mr. Miyagi in the show without it being redundant or stale.

This scene made me cry. It is incredible how much I love these characters as if they were old friends of mine. They really have done justice to these beloved characters. Chozen's redemption was something else that was well written. In some way Chozen is Daniel's Miyagi-Do brother.
I’m 28 and never grew up with KK. But i watched the first two on Netflix last summer. Just when I felt done, this show instantly hooked me which I didn’t expect to happen
I'm so glad that Chozen found redemption, too! He had some fun at Daniel's expense pretending at first to be the same old nasty Chozen, but that just made it more heartwarming when he revealed that he has changed and become a man that Miyagi and Sato are proud of.
A lot of shows try to build on older shows. But COBRA KAI is the first one in a long time to do it RIGHT. And it's great that so many of the original actors step into their roles, it's as if they never left them, but they grow and develop naturally as people can.
From the moment Kumiko read this, I was tearing. Once she read the part about Mr. Miyagi in the hospital I was crying. When Kumiko got to the part about how he was proud of Daniel and accepted into Daniel's family, I completely lost it and couldn't stop crying. How the world today needs a Mr. Miyagi.

This was probably my favorite scene from the third season. As a longtime fan, the Daniel and Miyagi relationship will always be the heart of the franchise for me. Great acting by Ralph Macchio here and Tamilyn Tomita was able to slide back into her old role fantastically. The writers also did a great job writing some authentic sounding Miyagi dialogue.
Even though it was never said,.. Miyagi loved Daniel and Daniel loved him right back. The proof is when he wrote that he felt like Samantha's grandfather which makes Daniel his son. RIP Miyagi, all of our hearts are empty without you. :'(
This show has not put a foot wrong. It's so amazing. Love how it's not detached itself from the movies with reusing the music from the films and also bringing back every actor. No replacements. This is a special show. Loved the films and now loving this show. Long may it continue
After all the things that Mr. Miyagi has taught Daniel, even after he's gone, he still had a lesson for Daniel. Love is one of the most powerful binds between any person.
I love how they weave Miyagi through the show, but especially the scene when Daniel went to his grave in Season 1 and now this. It was hard to like Daniel in Season 1 until that scene, which is one of the best moments in the history of this franchise. This is up there too.

I've been living in Japan for over 20yrs. Like anywhere. there are things I love and things I hate. But every once in a while I meet someone like Kumiko: elegant, calm, pure of heart, with quiet confidence. They are honest about themselves and deep thinkers. Whenever I see them,. they have this incredible calming effect. I wish there were more Kumiko's in this world.
This really isn't acting. You can literally feel the emotions both Ralph and Tamyln are experiencing remembering Pat. Pat Morita was deeply respected. You'd have a hard time finding anyone who worked with him or knew him say a bad word about him.
I really wish Mr. Miyagi was my adopted father. If I desperately needed guidance, he’s the best friend for me. This scene made me cry and think about the time my dad passed away. I know he’s very proud of me up there.
If you never watched Karate Kid before (especially part 1), this would prolly not make you cry. But if you watched Karate Kid part 1, ur more likely to feel emotional than not while watching this scene. Mr. Miyagi gave him more than what a regular father would to his child. Not just material things but also principles in life.

I just started binge-watching season 3 tonight and got up to this scene. The only thing that would have put it over the top and made me start bawling would be if they played the music from where Daniel was talking to Miyagi at the lake right after his father died. Still a very powerful moment in the series.
I've never cried this much in a long time. 😭😭 I was tearing up a river watching these scenes, especially this one.. Chozen really changed and all those flashback scenes to the Karate Kid movies with Pat Morita 😭😭
Mr. Miyagi truly treated Daniel as his son, I think the pair grew to be together over the course of the three films that they really had a father/son bond throughout the entire time.
I always loved Kumiko; she's part of the reason I grew up and went to Japan, hoping to meet a Kumiko (it didn't happen, but I still loved Japan). I'm very surprised that this series has been able to get all the original actors to come back and reprise their roles after so many years. Shows how much the movies must've meant to them. I don't know any other movie series that could do that. But...I just hope they don't try to draw in Hillary Swank....
Mr. Miyagi although not here, still taught Daniel and will be with him forever. I also think Mr. Miyagi will be here teaching all of us who will take in his wisdom.

@@shadowspidey7327 When I was a kid watching KK for the first time back in the 80s, I thought he was still a lovable character that I wanted in my family but kind of cheesy. I was kind of a hothead obsessed with ego and popularity and I lacked a father figure growing up. I think I was more Cobra Kai in thinking if you'll forgive my geeky reference. I thought the Miyagi way was only suited for fiction as a way to gain respect. In real life, I thought acting that way will get you teased and bullied; I thought you either fight back eagerly like a man and build that reputation as someone not to be messed with or submit like a coward and build that reputation of an easy target. Miyagi always favored something in between which I thought wasn't very manly until many years later. Now I think he epitomizes the idea of manliness as I see it. I would like to become more like Miyagi now as a former hothead and a show-off. The one other character that I think comes close to an ideal I'd like to strive towards is Captain Picard from Star Trek: TNG days. I didn't watch much Star Trek growing up but I binged on TNG in my 30s and I found the way Picard behaves very wise and well-balanced... badass if needed, fighting if necessary, but without seeking to fight or show off. Stoic without being too boring or robotic... that sort of stuff.
@Lila Kiki "The Next Karate Kid" does not exist in this dojo. Seriously though, that movie sucked and does not deserve to form part of the Karate Kid franchise. Even the 2010 remake is more passable.
We never truly know how much we can effect one another's lives until the person who does is gone. Miyagi needed Daniel as much as Daniel needed him. Beautiful scene. This is how you do a sequel/ reboot to something. This show truly pays beautiful homage to the original and miyagi even though he's gone really does have such a huge emotional impact on Daniel even still. His motives are driven and made by looking for guidance from miyagi. The writers really found such a nice beautiful way to pay tribute to pat moreta.
It's been awhile since I've felt this way. I knew going into season 3 that it would be a roller coaster of emotions. But, this scene is one of the best scenes a show has ever created. There were times when I teared up in the past to shows, but there was rarely a show that made me really cry like this scene does. The entire time it felt like Mr. Miyagi was really there talking to not only Daniel, but all of us indirectly. Such a powerful and emotional scene, I'm so glad the show is continuing his legacy honorably.
This is the sequence and moment that made me realize that this show was genuinely something special. It started to really find a groove in the second half of season 2 but Season 3 just blew me away. Now I get why this show is so beloved by so many and fans of The Karate Kid. All it took was for the writers to find the roots of the franchise again and showcase the true spirit and wisdom of Myagi-Do.

Mr Miyagi was right about losing your way in life , everyone eventually will lose they way in life & yes you will find your way back to the right path eventually . In life we all have our ups & downs . I myself started my life with all downs until the age of 4 years old , I was born with a birth defect in my feet & had multiple surgeries to try to correct it that failed , then the doctors let me go on with my life until the age of 14 & I went back to having surgeries to correct my birth defect up to the age of 21 , finally it was corrected but with a small sacrifice of one leg being shorter than the other by a half inch , now in my 50s I found out that because one leg was shorter than the other & walking on that leg , now my hip is deteriorating & I was diagnosed in 2019 that I needed a total hip replacement , back when I was 21 my doctors told me that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 50 years of age , & now I can see why , now I am on my down side & it’s going to take a total of up to 2 years to bounce back from this surgery when I get it done . I’ve had other really big ups & downs in my life & I’ve proved a lot of people wrong & that’s because I always find my way back to the right path , it might take me some time , but I’m strong & a fighter & I,ll do what I think I should do to keep on living my life to my dying breath .
Mr. Miyagi lives on in this show his spirit is strong!! And Kumiko what a beauty and her soul as well scene made me clench my jaw and yes a tear escapes

I am 56 years old and this series has caused me to cry more than any other series I have ever watched...You feel such a connection with the actors because you were there when they first met and now they are back together and bringing back and making new memories...I love this damn show.
The Cobra Kai writers have so much respect for the original movies and a deep understanding of Miyagi's character it really shines through with this scene and whenever Daniel talks about him

Daniel needed to absolutley hear this. Daniel viewed mr miyagi as probably the perfect man who could do no wrong and knew everything. But daniel forgot he is just a man who had his own life struggles, and hardships just like him, and the rest of us of us in general. And its these human moments why i love this show

The bond between MIyagi and Daniel is strong because "the roots are strong." Whereas Miyagi was a teacher who lost a infant son, Daniel was a student who didnt have a father, both became more than teacher and student. Whereas Sato said, the student becomes the teacher. Both Miyagi and Daniel are kindred souls, the letter expresses he can leave his life in peace knowing he had a student whom he loved as his son and all his knowledge and wisdom will be honored for generations after him. A very touching moment.

Throughout the entire Cobra Kai series the writers have done a beautiful job of honoring Pat Morita’s (Mr Mijagi’s) memory through letters, mementoes and appropriately timed brief flashbacks. Even through five seasons now I still find myself tearing up every time Mr Mijigi is mentioned or subtly referenced. It just goes to show what a iconic and beloved character he is to this franchise.

This is probably one of the best scenes I have ever seen in cinematography. The emotion, the expressions, the lines, everything. Those were not fake tears, but real tears reminiscing over the long beloved Mr. Miyagi. I typically never let emotions overwhelm me, especially with movies and what not, but I couldn’t keep it together while watching this scene. What a perfect way to allow Miyagi’s legacy to continue through this series.

Real shit, my face had streams down it, haven't cried this hard excluding being drunk and stoned since I lost someone close to me, had to run to the bathroom cause I had to "take a shit" but that's when I broke down, everyone tears up during some movie and show scenes but this hit the hardest
Plus, Nobu McCarthy (Aunt Yukie) had a similar background to Tamlyn Tomita (Kumiko) in real life so she became a close friend and mentor to her after the second movie so Tamlyn wasn't just getting emotional for Pat, she was getting emotional for Nobu as well.

When she translates it to grandfather, I think we all felt that emotion. So compelling, and I love how they keep Mr. Miyagi in the show without it being redundant or stale.

This scene made me cry. It is incredible how much I love these characters as if they were old friends of mine. They really have done justice to these beloved characters. Chozen's redemption was something else that was well written. In some way Chozen is Daniel's Miyagi-Do brother.

I'm so glad that Chozen found redemption, too! He had some fun at Daniel's expense pretending at first to be the same old nasty Chozen, but that just made it more heartwarming when he revealed that he has changed and become a man that Miyagi and Sato are proud of.
A lot of shows try to build on older shows. But COBRA KAI is the first one in a long time to do it RIGHT. And it's great that so many of the original actors step into their roles, it's as if they never left them, but they grow and develop naturally as people can.

From the moment Kumiko read this, I was tearing. Once she read the part about Mr. Miyagi in the hospital I was crying. When Kumiko got to the part about how he was proud of Daniel and accepted into Daniel's family, I completely lost it and couldn't stop crying.

When she said how Daniel was so important to Miyagi and how he feels like a grandfather to Sam, I broke down, so emotional.

This was probably my favorite scene from the third season. As a longtime fan, the Daniel and Miyagi relationship will always be the heart of the franchise for me. Great acting by Ralph Macchio here and Tamilyn Tomita was able to slide back into her old role fantastically. The writers also did a great job writing some authentic sounding Miyagi dialogue.
Even though it was never said,.. Miyagi loved Daniel and Daniel loved him right back. The proof is when he wrote that he felt like Samantha's grandfather which makes Daniel his son. RIP Miyagi, all of our hearts are empty without you. :'(
This show has not put a foot wrong. It's so amazing. Love how it's not detached itself from the movies with reusing the music from the films and also bringing back every actor. No replacements. This is a special show. Loved the films and now loving this show. Long may it continue

I didn’t expect it
I've been living in Japan for over 20yrs. Like anywhere. there are things I love and things I hate. But every once in a while I meet someone like Kumiko: elegant, calm, pure of heart, with quiet confidence. They are honest about themselves and deep thinkers. Whenever I see them,. they have this incredible calming effect. I wish there were more Kumiko's in this world.

This really isn't acting. You can literally feel the emotions both Ralph and Tamyln are experiencing remembering Pat. Pat Morita was deeply respected. You'd have a hard time finding anyone who worked with him or knew him say a bad word about him.

I really wish Mr. Miyagi was my adopted father. If I desperately needed guidance, he’s the best friend for me. This scene made me cry and think about the time my dad passed away. I know he’s very proud of me up there.

If you never watched Karate Kid before (especially part 1), this would prolly not make you cry. But if you watched Karate Kid part 1, ur more likely to feel emotional than not while watching this scene. Mr. Miyagi gave him more than what a regular father would to his child. Not just material things but also principles in life.

I just started binge-watching season 3 tonight and got up to this scene. The only thing that would have put it over the top and made me start bawling would be if they played the music from where Daniel was talking to Miyagi at the lake right after his father died. Still a very powerful moment in the series.
I've never cried this much in a long time. 😭😭 I was tearing up a river watching these scenes, especially this one.. Chozen really changed and all those flashback scenes to the Karate Kid movies with Pat Morita 😭😭

Mr. Miyagi truly treated Daniel as his son, I think the pair grew to be together over the course of the three films that they really had a father/son bond throughout the entire time.

I always loved Kumiko; she's part of the reason I grew up and went to Japan, hoping to meet a Kumiko (it didn't happen, but I still loved Japan). I'm very surprised that this series has been able to get all the original actors to come back and reprise their roles after so many years. Shows how much the movies must've meant to them. I don't know any other movie series that could do that.
But...I just hope they don't try to draw in Hillary Swank....

Man this was so powerful not afraid to admit I cried Mr. Miyagi was like my Uncle who passed away last year. And the way Daniel looked up and said thank you Mr.Miyagi the feel's man.

@@shadowspidey7327 When I was a kid watching KK for the first time back in the 80s, I thought he was still a lovable character that I wanted in my family but kind of cheesy. I was kind of a hothead obsessed with ego and popularity and I lacked a father figure growing up. I think I was more Cobra Kai in thinking if you'll forgive my geeky reference. I thought the Miyagi way was only suited for fiction as a way to gain respect. In real life, I thought acting that way will get you teased and bullied; I thought you either fight back eagerly like a man and build that reputation as someone not to be messed with or submit like a coward and build that reputation of an easy target. Miyagi always favored something in between which I thought wasn't very manly until many years later. Now I think he epitomizes the idea of manliness as I see it. I would like to become more like Miyagi now as a former hothead and a show-off.
The one other character that I think comes close to an ideal I'd like to strive towards is Captain Picard from Star Trek: TNG days. I didn't watch much Star Trek growing up but I binged on TNG in my 30s and I found the way Picard behaves very wise and well-balanced... badass if needed, fighting if necessary, but without seeking to fight or show off. Stoic without being too boring or robotic... that sort of stuff.

We never truly know how much we can effect one another's lives until the person who does is gone. Miyagi needed Daniel as much as Daniel needed him. Beautiful scene. This is how you do a sequel/ reboot to something. This show truly pays beautiful homage to the original and miyagi even though he's gone really does have such a huge emotional impact on Daniel even still. His motives are driven and made by looking for guidance from miyagi. The writers really found such a nice beautiful way to pay tribute to pat moreta.
It's been awhile since I've felt this way. I knew going into season 3 that it would be a roller coaster of emotions. But, this scene is one of the best scenes a show has ever created. There were times when I teared up in the past to shows, but there was rarely a show that made me really cry like this scene does. The entire time it felt like Mr. Miyagi was really there talking to not only Daniel, but all of us indirectly. Such a powerful and emotional scene, I'm so glad the show is continuing his legacy honorably.

This is the sequence and moment that made me realize that this show was genuinely something special. It started to really find a groove in the second half of season 2 but Season 3 just blew me away. Now I get why this show is so beloved by so many and fans of The Karate Kid. All it took was for the writers to find the roots of the franchise again and showcase the true spirit and wisdom of Myagi-Do.
As Miyagi has said "the roots are strong so the tree will survive"

Imagine if Mr. Miyagi's theme played while she was reading..
Mr Miyagi was right about losing your way in life , everyone eventually will lose they way in life & yes you will find your way back to the right path eventually . In life we all have our ups & downs . I myself started my life with all downs until the age of 4 years old , I was born with a birth defect in my feet & had multiple surgeries to try to correct it that failed , then the doctors let me go on with my life until the age of 14 & I went back to having surgeries to correct my birth defect up to the age of 21 , finally it was corrected but with a small sacrifice of one leg being shorter than the other by a half inch , now in my 50s I found out that because one leg was shorter than the other & walking on that leg , now my hip is deteriorating & I was diagnosed in 2019 that I needed a total hip replacement , back when I was 21 my doctors told me that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 50 years of age , & now I can see why , now I am on my down side & it’s going to take a total of up to 2 years to bounce back from this surgery when I get it done . I’ve had other really big ups & downs in my life & I’ve proved a lot of people wrong & that’s because I always find my way back to the right path , it might take me some time , but I’m strong & a fighter & I,ll do what I think I should do to keep on living my life to my dying breath .
Mr. Miyagi lives on in this show his spirit is strong!! And Kumiko what a beauty and her soul as well scene made me clench my jaw and yes a tear escapes

I am 56 years old and this series has caused me to cry more than any other series I have ever watched...You feel such a connection with the actors because you were there when they first met and now they are back together and bringing back and making new memories...I love this damn show.

The Cobra Kai writers have so much respect for the original movies and a deep understanding of Miyagi's character it really shines through with this scene and whenever Daniel talks about him
