Thanks for the honest review, Iit is definitely appreciated, especially as the cost of ammo continues to go up. The rifle looks great and enjoyed the breakdown of new parts.
Thank you for watching. It has performed much better than it did today
I shoot a B14R with a steel barrel in Northern Wisconsin. Cold weather is tough on 22 LR. Mine likes SK Biathlon when it's cold. Also Norma TAC-22 when the ammo is kept warm. I use a 350 watt electric heater in my ammo box with the top open, that helps a great deal. Don't let it get too warm, that's why I leave the top open. Bought the heater at Menards for $15. The lubricant on the bullets doesn't like the cold. Wolf Match is very bad in the cold but great in the summer. Hope this helps. Joe
i've heard people talking about when the lub gets cold enough it hardens and creates firing issues. makes sense though i guess.
I shoot with a few vudoos as well and they frequently seem to have issues. B14 r or a 457 seem to be much more reliable platforms for significantly less money
yep i totally agree. even the rim x guys i shoot with have issues. one i know has ran without issue but they're kinda weird, you have to adjust the magazine to fit right.
Thank for your great review on bergara b14r on mpa chassis. I'm using ARC m10 QD-l.
its definitely a great set up!
Wolf Target would vertically string 6"at 100 yds cold and shoots 1-1/2" when heated, Remington Golden bullet seems effected the least next to SK Biathlon.
surprising about remington. i stay away from anything 22 by them.
I am thinking about entering just for fun, the 22 caliber bolt thing, but what I am finding is NO high-quality ammunition. Why spend the money for another rifle, rebarrel my Ruger 10-22 rifle, and be happy with it; retired.
its out there its just still at coofid prices. the common stuff like center x and the popular sk flavors are hard to find though. i have seen cci standard velocity pretty regularly in stock tho for around 45/brick.
Thanks for the hard work. If you like the SK Rifle Match, try the Standard Plus that's 30% cheaper. My CZ shoots them both about the same. At 200 yds or more cheap ass Aguilla Super Extra and CCI Velocitors ring the steel. You ain't shooting' for groups past 100 anyway. The gun looks awesome but I don't think she likes the cold. :)
yea i think it was just be shooting like a donkey. had it out a few times since and its been just fine so i dunno. i sure WISH i could get sk std trust me i look all the time i just can't find it in stock.
This isn't true. At 200m I can keep 95% of shots inside 3.5 inches. 291 yards is 8 inches with match ammo with at 80% hit probability. I am a BR winner and beginning PRS shooter.
Looks like you were shooting a shotgun!
000 buck
Thats looking dope!
yea it does.
I got the same results with the Eley outlaw, absolutely horrible. Only 2 loads that my rifles seems to like from Eley are, SA benchrest precision, and Action SV shoots about the same as CCISV, which is to say solid for 6cpr.
Definitely favors CX and SK loads.
I also put mine in a MPA hybrid with the TT Diamond, been very pleased as well. Though I have found that my older mags dont seem to feed from it very well, but newer mags have no problems. Seems like maybe they made a minor adjustment.
a lot of people i see posting pics of their b14r seem to like some flavor of sk. maybe bergara got some money from sk when they were designing their barrels lol.
Get you a .043 go and no go gauge. Im willing to bet your headspace is out after changing barrel. Thanks for the review.
I havent changed the barrel this is a factory action and barrel
Ahhh... saw the area 419 sticker thought it was their match barrel
Great video. Made me think. If I figured this out correctly the speed of sound might be 100 ft/sec less in frigid vs warm air. So 1100 f/sec ammo may be subsonic on a warm day and supersonic on a cold day. I think that makes sense, if not tell me, I won't be offended. Not sure how it would affect tolerances between different materials in rifle. I have no clue why your absolute velocities were higher though. Hope your dog is ok.
you know man honestly i'm not sure. most good stuff i've tested seems to stay pretty darn close in velocity year round, maybe varies but a few fps which can make a difference at distance for 22 no doubt. but good stuff will keep pretty close to the same SD year round. i think when you get in to the mid range/cheaper stuff is when you start to notice atmospheric conditions effect it. 22 is such a strange animal i think thats what attracts most people to getting addicted to it LOL
Hey bro just found your channel. I love my Bergara B-14 HMR Wilderness in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have been waiting for the Bergara BMR to come out late May to June. I am in the market for a 22lr that I can shoot on bench but mostly use for hunting small game in the mountains of Colorado. Have you been looking into the BMR and will you do a review? I really the the B-14r Carbon and your reviews, but the 8lbs weight is what keeps me from picking this up and has me waiting for the BMR carbon which is going to weigh 5lbs.
first thanks for watching. I have no intention at this time to do the BMR but if someone reading this is willing to ship me one id be more than willing to thought but if i had to guess it would stay true to bergara form and be a tac driver. Honestly when i was carrying the b14r carbon around in the factory stock weight never jumped out to me i thought it was light but i can see how hucking it around in the woods would get heavy. I'm sure the bmr is awesome.
that's a pricy 22lr set up, wow
Im think of a KRG W3 chassis on my B14R
From my experience with krg they feel cheap but fit well. I wouldn't put on a a good build but to each their own
Have you heard of fort harmer rifle club? Probably about 2 hours south east of you. We have nrl22 style shoots every month and will be holding a sanctioned nrl22x comp later this year. Our outdoor range goes out to 450 as well.
no i have no but i am interested for sure. are you guys on practiscore?
@@coreyd1474 I do not think we are. The only matches have standings in are the nrl22x and gssf. All others will just be posted onto our Facebook page.
Is the safety stiff on you rifle? Mine seems unusually hard to move from fire to safe when cocked.
well in this video its got a triggertech in it but even with the factory trigger it seems normal. nothing out of the ordinary.
Mine is the same way...I’m guessing it’s normal.
@@Matt-zn4zp I messaged Bergara and they said it should not be that way.
@@dsdragon83 really!? Dang. Did they say anything about sending it in?
@@Matt-zn4zp when I contacted them they sent a replacement trigger. It helped 75-80% and I had it polished a little. When I swapped in a trigger tech it was flawless. My best guess is something is just a little off. I can replicate the issue if I remove the bolt and press on the sear. When the safety is moved it doesn’t just lock the sear but actually presses up on it, which seems to cause the binding. The only time the safety should not set is if the rifle is not cocked.
Could it be a harmonics change with the barrel (from the cold) resulting in the group size? I was considering picking up the carbon model until I found out that the barrel is actually a pencil with a carbon fiber tube sitting over it, tensioned by the barrel nut. Seems like the airgap between the barrel and CF tube would cause heat dissipation issues and I am concerned about the harmonics...
Did you try the steel version in the cold? Any poi shift/group size change with it?
i have not tried the steel version in the cold. i have found that the FPS doesn't change too terribly from hot to cold BUT a few fps in 22 does make a huge difference.
22LR are more accurate without a suppressor. XRING just did a video on that.
I like his videos but he shoots guns us normies will never own. I have only fired this a few times unsuppresed but I have a hard time believing it will shoot better but stranger things have happened!
@@coreyd1474 I didn't want to believe it either since I love shooting 22 suppressed. It doesn't show improvement until you go past 200, it has more vertical stringing. Test it yourself, dont take my word. Good video.
@@Prometheuss.cannabis.corner I mean don't get me wrong 22 is a different animal results vary largely between rifles and ammo but I've had mine out to 500 with hits every single round. I think you're splitting hairs at that point you know?
Thanks for the review, I ended up going with the same set up, but cannot get my magazine to seat, it doesn't seem to engage the mag catch at all. Have messed with the adjustable mag catch without success. Any ideas?
they sell and adjustable mag catch i believe. get on their site and check it out.
I've had a horrible time with eley match in my B14r. Failure to fire, failure to extract, and a ton of frustration that I haven't experienced with other ammo. Disappointing results 🙁 for a great name round.
it must be a quality control thing with eley. its everyone not just you. ESPECIALLY 10x. i'd get a ftf every 10th round or more. its gone to shit. stick to cx
Waiting for the Fan Boys to see this video.
none yet........
With all those horrendous groups it looks like there's one Fan Boy... the one who made this video.
Corey: I am want to buy or order a Bergara B-14 this weekend... but I am torn between the carbon barrel and their steel barrel. You have reviewed both, and I know you love your carbon version. I recall the steel barrel version had bolt smoothness issues, and it did not group well for you. Other folks on CZcams have not had those issues with the steel barrel version.... so,which version should I buy? Please help me out here!
Bob
Dakota Dunes, SD
i say it all depends what you're looking to do with it. if you're looking to save a pound for hucking around the woods get the carbon, if you're going to be doing prs/nrl stuff IMO go with the steel. that little extra weight will help you stay a little more steady, plus its about 100 dollars cheaper. or buy whichever is in stock LOL. the carbon version looks better though.
I was in the same boat as you...I ended up getting the carbon fiber barrel and love it!! I still plan on buying a steel barreled action and an MPA chassis for my next rig.
@@Matt-zn4zp such a good gun
check your can and barrel...... might be fouled up
took the can apart and cleaned it after this, it was pretty gross. could have been the issue.
I don’t plan on shooting any matches just gophers and paper would you recommend the carbon or steel? Will the carbon barrel wear out in time
it will take millions of rounds to shoot out a 22 barrel so thats not really an issue.
What color stock is your MPA? Maybe you said this but what exact model MPA is this one? I’m thinking about going this route. I’m really enjoying my B14r Carbon!!! Thank you so much for all your insight!!
the model is mpa ba competition and i think the color is called tungsten. look on snipers hide for used ones rather than pay full price. they'll be about half the price and a new one last i checked was like 6 week lead time
@@coreyd1474 thanks! I was looking at either gunmetal or tungsten...I’ll have to look for used ones. 👍
Corey: One more question on the B-14's.... have you experienced any "light strikes" resulting in a failure to fire? Today I viewed three different CZcams videos where B-14 owners had this issue with SK standard and SWK ammo...
out of roughly 15k rounds i MAYBE had 5 total.
I’ve had no light strikes at all with my B14R Carbon...only 300 rounds through it (16 different brands of ammo). Mine shoots lights out on many brands of ammo which is nice when ammo is hard to find.
Where have you been shooting matches at Corey?
I've been shooting prs/nrl22 at a gun club in Richwood Ohio and for a club up in upper sandusky
@@coreyd1474 thanks for the tip!
@@joesubler1169 the club is called wyandot whackers look them up on practiscore
@@coreyd1474 thanks!
@@joesubler1169 you're welcome
I am undecided between the steel barrel version and the carbon fiber version. Have you noticed any change in accuracy between the two?
no not really. if you're going to use it for PRS/NRL go with the steel barrel for a little more weight. carbon version looks better tho
@@coreyd1474 ok thank you
@@kevinjacquin5232 no problem.
Do you still have this Bergara or did you get rid of it in favor of that Rimx?
i sold it but i can tell you with 100% certainty i wish i had kept it.
B14r or T1x in a krg bravo?
having had a t1x in a bravo go with the b14r 100%. the tikka is a great rifle and shoots well but the extraction system they put in them is absolute trash. mine wore out after around 2k rounds.
@@coreyd1474 thanks!
@@fitztech any time!
@@coreyd1474 one more question, does the b14r factory stock have the aluminum chassis built into it like the centerfire version?
@@fitztech sure does. same stock
I dont understand, i have never seen ammo that gets better the further you shoot it! That makes no sense.
Yea its what they say. guess i'll find out for myself one of these days?
what
what
do you just have all this ammo around? where are you finding it!?! cant find decent ammo to run through my b14r
yea most of it i bought before covid but i'm starting to get low on my variety. only have like 4 different types or so left now.
