    All groups at 50 yards.
Second part of the ammo comparison out of my RPRF. I like to choose ammo that I feel is fairly priced (minus a few) and readily available. So here's the results for me, yours will vary but at least it's a good starting point. Thanks for watching!
EDIT: ended up ordering more Eley force and its been super consistent out to distance. Able to get 1/2 MOA at 200 yards.

Great work, thank you for your time to put this together. This has to be one of the best 22 ammo reviews I've found since you show the data in a clear concise format.

Thanks for the feedback. Once thing i wish i was able to do was have at least 20 fowling rounds per ammo and maybe run a barrel snake through a few times after each i just didn't have that kind of time or ammo. I would recommend doing that to get the best results. good luck though!

@@coreyd1474 Agreed. I was planning on running 25 rounds per gun (5x5) in a sense getting the 20 fouling and 1- 5 shot group.
I also want to see if there really is any difference as the barrel acclimates to the ammo.
I was going to use an Otis pull through, but I may just grab a bore snake for ease.

Picked up the Federal Auto Match and it ran great, until I got out past 125 yards. Proof that each rifle shoots different ammo differently. Thanks for the hard work.

Very nice to see someone testing so much different ammo, I did the same thing well over 15 years ago in France when starting Olympic 50m target competition.
Out of a Anschutz Match 54 and then later out of a Anschutz 1903 I tested Remington (Golden and Target), Norma, Winchester (T22), Eley (5 different kind), SK (rifle and pistol match) and then a 1.5€ box of CCI standard velocity, CCI beat everything for me, my 1903 would put 10rnd of CCI at 50m like there was only 5 in one tiny hole, and the best surprise was how clean my rifle barrel was after shooting a match, even several matches, not the case with any other of the ammo I tried, worst for Eley and SK.

Olympic is a big word, but most shooting range in France are set for 10-25-50 meters precision and speed target shooting which follow Olympic standards.
I started at around 10 years old at 10 meters with air rifles (mostly Feinwerkbau), by 14 I was helping training younger kids while starting 50m competition with an old Match 54 rifle, in high school I switched to the 1907 (not 1903) best .22 rifle I ever shot.
You can find some in the US, but fairly rare, I have seen more the Russian counterpart Izhmash (here in Idaho)

Happy I came across your videos. I have a RPR also. I just got mine about a month ago. I have been firing some Winchester bulk with not so good results. 2” at 25 yards. I shot from another box of the same at about 1” at 25 yards again not good. I was starting to think I had a dud for a gun so I picked up some green tag and got 1/4 at 25 yards a bit more what I was looking for. It did it in 5 shot groups over 4 targets so it was very consistent. I have used GT in my match pistol for years and was so happy I tried it.

Well done on Parts 1 and 2! Thank you for investing the time and money and sharing your results with us. I also liked the fact that you said that this is what worked well in your rifle but we should do our own testing to see what works well in our own. It sure is interesting to see how some of the different brands perform. I'm not a "precision" shooter as I own a couple of Savage Mk II's, a Savage 64G and a S&W M&P 15-22 but I do enjoy trying to make a nice group at 50 and 100 yards. Funny thing is, my 15-22 just loves the Federal AutoMatch but my Walther P22QD handgun won't shoot it at all. Just goes to prove your point that one should test one's own firearms to see what works. I get so annoyed when some people say one brand of ammo is junk. Its just junk in that gun, not in all. All my 22's shoot Remington T-Bolts really well and accurately, especially the P22.
I have some RWS subsonic hollow point that I want to try at 50 and 100 yards. From some other tests I've seen on YT it does very well in the CZ that it was tested in. You might give it a look if you can find it these days. I'd also like to get some SK Magazine but might have to wait awhile until the ammo shortage eases up.
Anyway, thanks again - really enjoyed the vids.

Corey, great job. I've watched both the 1st part and this second part. Very well done. Kudo's to what I know was a lot of work to produce this video. But I came away with a couple of "I wonder if's". First, I know you shot most of this when it was pretty dang cold outside. So I'm wondering if some of the flyers were due to a "cold" first shot. Barrel temp is one of those hard to define variables. Without monitoring barrel temp it would be difficult to gauge what effect temp played in your tests. Also, I would be very curious as to how "dirty" each of the various brand/types were. I'm sure you probably noticed that certain brands/types were dirtier than others. Again, thank you for your "well done" comparison video. I enjoyed watching it as I'm also interested in the performance of the rifle itself.

    • @coreyd1474
      @coreyd1474  Před 5 lety +1

first of all thanks for watching and thanks for the input! Yes, i'm convinced the cold weather had a lot to do with it. i've since then had a few types out again that didn't shoot so well in the original that shot really well. I ended up buying 1000 eley force and 1000 eley target, (which by the way is the best out of this gun.) All 22 is pretty dirty, but i didn't pay close enough attention to see which was more dirtier than others. Once the weather dies down here i'm going to take the best 5 and do a 200 yard video. eley force for me will do 1/2 moa at 200 and shoots very well out to 350. it will do further i just haven't had a chance to go further yet.

Thanks for the video and comparison of all the ammo. It's nice to see real groups on paper. When my chrono fails to record shots, I darken the bullet with a black sharpie. Maybe that's why the Eley force did well? (Use the force?) Use the sky screens if it's a shoot through and brighter skies seems to help.

What typically causes a radical flyer like the Federal Hunter match @ 2:25 is often a poorly formed bullet. When the pour includes an air pocket it throws off the balance of the bullet and causes an increasing-radius spiral. As it spins it spirals out further & further with distance.

Super test on 22 LR ammo , Fe’s thoughts to consider for future testing .
How many fouling shots before you shoot from one test group to a another .i found out it’s about 20 shots from copper plated ammo to lead , much less the other way around .
Also it’s good to mark the first shot to see if there is a pattern on your first shot / cold barrel shot. Working the torque wrenches on the action screws if the bedding has been done would dramatically change group size , about 3.5 to 6 Newton’s, there are some good tests on CZcams on this ,, measuring the headspace also will eliminate flyers, you will be surprised how many you will find even in a pricy 20$ box of 50 . Same brand , same type , but a different batch will produce different results , 100 meters or yards will highlight the results better , but avoid a windy day .
Good luck to your journey in finding the magic 22 , some find it some don’t,

Yes. I have some eley target on the way so once that comes in ill get the best together and go to 200. Even with force which shoots half moa at 200 that's about as far as it will group consistently. Force will hit my 12x20 silhouette every single shot at 350 (with little wind obviously). Since that ammo hovers right below the supersonic face it doesn't have to transverse the transonic face which 22 destabilizes easy that's why they day ammo in the 1050-1090 fps is optimal

Running the same setup with a 6x24 50mm Diamondback. Shooting the Eley Target based on your tests and availability. What distance should I sight in at 50yd or 100yds? Killing it at 50yds, not as tight yet at 100. Should I zero and use the lines or just zero the turret and count the clicks and keep notes? Second way seems more accurate. If you want a super accurate 22 cal. you need to go center fire. You can control the powder measurements by trickling, and get better velocity averages. I am going back to 22lr for my grand kids. Thx for the review @@coreyd1474

The surprise for me was the ammo they were using was ELEY SPORT!
I use it always with hunting done with ELEY SUBSONICS hollow points, iam so happy I didn't have to sift through all the different brands! It's great to have good friends, but that's shooting!
