    Did anyone else’s brain not comprehend that there was vet wrap on the objective bell and think he cut the front off his scope for the first minute and a half

      The wrap did it job breaking up the scope silhouette. Imagine if you intermittently wrap the stock with it

    I would love have seen these shot out of a steel barrel. In my club one thing we have found the exact thing a lot of your targets are showing. The carbon barrels have a problem with vertical stringing as they heat up. The steel b14rs don’t have that problem. We took two days verifying our results and cold they would shoot awesome but as they heated up the vertical would show up.

      What you have just stated is one of the beautiful things about both the Bergara and the Savage button rifled barrels, they print clover shaped groups instead of stringing......

    I am an oxymoron. I shoot a .22 rifle that cost 6.5K - rifle/optic and accessories. I shoot $4.99 ammo on sale per 50 rounds, 40gr lrn Aguila super extra blue/gold box. It shoots pretty well if I read the wind properly. I do sort my ammo by rim size. Excellent video and presentation, thank you, subbed to your channel

    Hi there, i'm always looking out for .22RF ammo testing here on the tube. I'm so pleased i came across your videos a while back, the amount of detail and time you put into these comparison videos is second to none. Also your style of presentation is first class, so concise and interesting. I have a few favourite channels on here (RFcontent) and i can say that your channel is way up there.
    I'm pleased with your evaluation on the SK Standard Plus because that's the ammo i have settled on after testing half a dozen brands over several months. It shoots lights out on my Bergara B14-R (steel barrel) up to 50 metres.
    I haven't been to my 100 metre range yet but i've no reason to believe it'll let me down at that distance.
    Thanks for putting in the time and effort to help us out, it's much appreciated.
    Keep 'em coming.

    Used to shoot a ton of the old Wolf Match Target which I believe was same as sk standard plus. Shot great, but would have the random flyer issue.
    Fooled around and weight sorted a brick, and the flyers disappeared and the groups shrunk. Was a good way to help cheap ammo punch above its weight class, if you got the time.

    I really like your video and technique, I’ve watch Corey’s videos more than once when I picked up another rifle. I also have the Bergara B14R with steel barrel. I shoot mostly 50 yards and have found out ammo that does great at 50 doesn’t always do well at 100. I prefer finding off the shelf ammo that fits my rifle and my favorites are GECO match, Norma Tac-22, Blazer 40, and GECO semi auto all of which will regularly clear a KYL

      A few days ago we had a warm day with very little wind and I tried something I watched on CZcams. I took three boxes of Norma Tac22 and separated them by weight, ranged from 52.7g to 53.2g with the bulk of them at 52.9g. I took what I thought was a full box to my Thursday 22lr 50yd shoot. From the 10rd fouling target to four 10rd groups for score it was doing one hole groups. When I was reloading my last mag I realized I only had 45rds in the box so I had to open another box. I had 5 rounds in the 10 ring and the rest 6s and 7s. I think the next move is do a whole brick and see what happens. I’m on my way to the range to shoot the rest of the separated ammo to see if there is a difference. I have a Hornady rim thickness gauge that I may try on this ammo also. Four of the guys in our Thursday shoot have switched to the Bergara B14r and they’re all shooting Norma Tac22 except one guy who breaks out a box of Lapua Center X from time to time but it doesn’t make the difference you would think. I have more time than money so separating ammo is no big chore. Also, the more HV ammo I try the worse it gets. Thanks

    I'm looking at getting one of these. I noticed on a few of your targets, on the same paper at times, that what you called "flyers" were in the 3 to 4 o'clock area. Those are either shooter error or you had some scope parallax. True flyers are random and won't keep occurring at the same spot or area. Just a tidbit that might help.

    Your methodology is valid for sure, and convincing because it is commensurate with anyone’s marksmanship. In other words, shooters having better or poorer knowledge and skills than you would still have outcomes on a scale similar to yours. Now, most important, since after all the B14 R is a “trainer”, any of the ammo shot here could serve the shooter’s Marksmanship practice and analysis needs, but no doubt, shooting any ammo that gets a definable best result will better expose shooter error.

  • @hatteras33
    @hatteras33 Před 2 lety

    Awesome info.
    I’ve been slowly testing ammo in mine. Lot testing for eley mostly. My gun seems to prefer eley that is over 1070. So far eley team at 1073 is the winner. Couldn’t find any more team so I ordered some match at 1075, hopefully it works out.
    I tried tenex at 1065 and it was the worst Eley I’ve tried so far. Lots seems to make a big difference with Eley and this rifle.
    That being said, I was getting consistent hits at 500 yards with the Eley team. What a blast.

    Your testing is very interesting but from all the reviews I've watched, the B14r carbon fiber barrel models do not shoot nearly as well as the steel barrel models. Using the IBS target in competition, I've shot a perfect point score of 500 at 50 yards with my steel barrel B14r using SK Pistol Match Special. It's a consistent sub-moa rifle at 50 yards.

  • @lutherprice2062

    Sorry, pushed the send button too quick…regularly clear a KYL rack at 50 yards. As far as shooting groups 1/2”-3/4”. I’ve tried the more expensive ammo and found if I do my part the difference is not worth the extra money and it’s more fun outscoring the guys with the good stuff. As far as shooting HV ammo my rifle doesn’t do well with it either and at 100 yards it’s pretty bad. I also have a Ruger 10/22 Competition from the performance center and it loves the Federal AutoMatch and will clear the KYL rack very quickly. I’ll sometimes take the rack out to 75 yards and clear it within 10 rounds with this rifle and ammo combo. Thank you very much for all the time and ammo you used to make this video. Great video.

      My understanding is that SK is made from the old machines that made Lapua. I think they basically make the SK Match and bin the lots to Standard Plus that dont make the grade for SK Match. The standard plus was exceptional for the one box I shot and dropped off for the second. Im still on the fence. Ive got 3 boxes of SK Standard Plus and one of Lapua CenterX to do more testing on. Thanks for your support and watching!

    It would be interesting to see how the ammo would do in the Bergara b14steel. Even though you had Stable platform to shoot from.
    There is a reason competition shooters don’t use carbon barrels.
    They are great for hunting but for target STEEL is your friend.

Luckily, because I purchased 1000's a long while ago. Thanks for the excellent review, and confirming my experience....Wolf btw is very similar to SK, in consistency. • @sneakydingo3079
    @sneakydingo3079 Před 2 lety +1

    My guess to why the standard was doing so well, is that the lead bullet itself is rather gummy and gross to handle. I have spoke with some longrange dudes and scoured SnipersHide and its harmonizing to not clean your guns. There is 'mud' or lubrication that comes out after every shot. Since there is not jacket, a dry barrel can pull and tug unevenly on a soft lead projectile and cause deviation. But as you shoot the lead smears the barrel and acts as lubrication, hence the mud. I was having weird groupings with Eley pistol target and i cleaned it twice. Now ive shot boxes of ammo through it, suppressed and it's group very nicely.
    Edit: i understand the importance of a controlled environment and cleaning the rifle is a necessity for scientific purposes, but the barrel lubrication is important in my opinion. MarkandSam has good results with high velocity 22. The shape of the 22 is fat and it drops through the transonic barrier very quickly over its centerfire counterparts.

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety +1

      Great info here. I actually have a video planned to test this exact scenario. Im going to buy 10 boxes from the same lot of something like Eley match and shoot a couple of boxes each day over several days and see if groups improve, degrade, or stay the same and see what we learn over those 500 rounds. The weather has been poor so I've been doing more indoor videos but hopefully it improves soon. Thanks for watching!

    Interesting results. Out of eley match, eley tenex, sk std+, sk match, sk long range match, Norma match, lapua center x, and lapua midas +, my steel b14r consistently shoots best with sk std plus, and lapua midas plus. Questions for you. Do you remove the action from the stock when cleaning and do you make sure action screw torque is consistent? Have you tried this off of a bipod? Mine likes bipod with a rear bag more than front and rear bags. Great video!

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety

      Basically the answer is I've tried all of the above. Bipod with and without loading, from bags, from a rest, and prone with all of them. As a general rule I clean by removing the action, reseating the action against the lug, and torquing to manufacture specs. However, I also tried cleaning without removing the action to see if any difference there. I have given serious consideration to bedding the recoil lug but decided to go a different way. I have ordered a new MDT chassis but don't think that is an issue. My opinion is the carbon fiber barrel is to blame. Ive learned it is not wrapped but a hollow tube over a thin barrel that is tensioned at either end. It shoots ok but expected better. Ill keep working with it. I still need to try different action torque settings and will have a video on this. Thanks for watching!

      It is. Ive been working on it. The biggest issue is the wind this time a year in my area. We've seen winds over 30mph for three weeks. Ive also been busy with life outside of shooting. I have started it however with the first 50 rounds downrange. Thanks for watching and support!

    My wife has a Bergara B14R steel barrel and it seems to shoot all standard velocity ammunition fairly decent. Of course some groups better than others like RWS R50, Eley Match and Lapua Center X. The Eley Tennex didn’t shoot any better than Eley Match and Lapua Midas plus wasn’t any better than the Center X.
    Of all the SK offerings her rifle prefers the Biathlon plus. She has shot some impressive groups with the SK Standard Plus but it isn’t consistent.

    Did you clean the bore after every type off ammo or did you just keep on shooting and did the barrel get really dirty?

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety +1

      After every type of ammo I cleaned the bore completely in order to ensure each type of ammo went through the same process. 25 foulers were then shot then 25 for groups. 50 rounds total for each type. Thanks for watching!

    Not surprised by Federal performance which has always disappointed. Winchester is still the worst in my experience. Federal isn't accurate, but it does cycle which Winchester can't even consistently do in a semi auto rifle or pistol.

    That's a beautiful rifle setup, it's too bad it wasn't competition accuracy. I found that with hammer forged barrels they can tend to have a lengthy break in time. But once they are broken in it's a night and day difference. I had a CZ 527 in 223 that shot like garbage when I first got it. Minute and a half was outstanding for it. For the amount of money I put into it I just started pounding rounds through it and then scrubbing the bore with a steel brush. After about 500 rounds and a good scouring it turned into a 3/8 moa shooter with 69 grain Sierra match kings.

      Too bad? Competition accuracy is a product of shooter knowledge and skill, not barrel break-in, so your issue is not an issue at all. Hammer forged, cut, and button rifled barrels can all produce match grade results from first round out. Typically, hammer forged will have the longest barrel life and buttoned will be shortest for X-Ring hits at long distance. What’s most important is the chamber and lead rifling is concentric with no run out to orient each cartridge on axis with the bore. The bottom-line is unless these B14 R’s are defective or broken the bullet will always go in the direction the barrel is pointed so getting the best results is about the shooter having consistent sight alignment and smooth trigger control to know where the barrel is pointed and keep it that way until the bullet clears the barrel. BTW, it takes about 20 rounds to break-in a hammer forged center fire rifle barrel according to the USAMU. How many rounds to break-in a .22 LR barrel? Sincerely, who knows but I would suspect the cleaning would diminish accuracy instead of enhance it. I have never cleaned the bore of my B14 R and have no intention to as I consistently get .3 inch five shot groupings at 50 yards and MOA or better at 100 if I get the wind counter right. And after all, isn’t getting the wind counter right what it’s all about. One more thing, I used to shoot weekly in US Service Rifle Competition, about a 1000 rounds monthly, so I rebarreled about every 3 months. After some score books were filled with scores from hammer forged, cut, and button rifled barrels it appeared to me that Douglas button rifled barrels chambered by CLE were most accurate but also only had a barrel life of about 1800 rounds for MOA at 600 yards. Since the accuracy is more important to me than barrel life I still go with the Douglas button rifled barrels and those barrels have no doubt helped me to earn my US Distinguished Rifleman Badge and American High Power Rifleman Award in Long-Range.

    It is one year later that I am watching your video, the Bergara 22LR rifle is one of two 22 caliber rifles that I am looking at, the other is Christensen Arms Ranger 22, and both have their problems; the mass-produced rifles. I have followed and watched many videos on both rifles. It appears to be a hit-or-miss thing with Bergara and Christensen Arms Ranger 22. From $800 to $1000 for the Bergara ($1000), and $800 for the Christensen Arms both should be winners, there are not. CA had the edge, Ruger’s rotary ten-round magazine make it the winner. Ruger’s 10-22 rifle anyone?! Sorry to be long-winded. $800 is a lot of money.

    I'm surprised that your Bergara shoots so poorly. You may need your headspace checked or the barrel has a tight spot in it. My 1022 with beaded action, ER shaw barrel and trigger work. shoots smaller groups than that. And I know a Bergara will out shoot my 1022 any day of the week.

    BR Precision, I own tons of it for my Bergara. It loves it.
    I don’t think it’s the gun not loving high velocity ammo. It’s probably has more to do with the transonic effect of the ammo slowing down before it hits the target. That’s why long range shooters want their ammo to stay super sonic through the target. Wish I could send you some targets I’ve shot at 50 with ammos you didn’t try.
    That being said, where did you get the bench mat you shoot off of??

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety

      The bench was made by Cabelas under the Herters Brand. Bass Pro is still selling it under a different brand name now. It has been a great bench and seat can be adjusted forward and back. I do wish it was a little longer. Also, you are correct on the transonic causing things to open up on the Supersonic ammo. This is a reason I shot at 75 to ensure it has passed through it. Thanks for watching!

      I was asking about the mat you have your rig setting in on top of the bench. I like the high sides keep the brass easy to clean up

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety

      @@jamesgang94591 The mat on top of the bench with the high sides is integrated into the bench and how it came from Cabelas. It is not a separate part and is nice as it keeps stuff from rolling or falling off. Hope this helps.

    Gotta say im not that impressed. Everyone touts the accuracy of this gun. Im not seeing it,especially at the price point which to me is very expensive and would expect if to be far more accurate with a larger variety of ammo. One would go broke shooting eley all the time. My 10/22 semi custom and less than half the price. Ive been looking at a new left handed bolt gun and this was one of them. Perhaps i will go the cz route.

    All you did here is waste a 1000rds. You constantly clean a .22 barrel and this is what happens..inconsistencies. these should have shot much better.

    • @ringsteeltv3179
      @ringsteeltv3179  Před 2 lety

      Inconsistencies affect all rounds equally. While I completely agree guns shoot better once fouled, I disagree more than 25 rounds of fouling is going to make an appreciable difference. However, this has been brought up several times and makes me wonder if I'm wrong. I do plan to shoot 500 rds of the same ammo this year taking groups every 100 to see. Thanks for watching!
