In all honesty, I'd rather have gotten 3D Land... I prefer smaller games on handheld consoles more than big games. Not that I don't WANT to play this game, it's just that I'd probably prefer it on Wii U Virtual Console over the original DS.
I love this version so much. It's everything I wanted the original version to be. Heck, it even has Luigi as a playable character which is something internet forum in the 90's only dreamed of.

You know what's truly mindblowing about the game. When you realize Wiggler is still mostly prerendered sprites like in the original. You thought it was a model? Well, nope. Only his head is (and I believe his legs too). You can find this out by looking into the game's codes. The segments are done so well that it LOOKS 3D. Now that's impressive.

Super Mario 64 DS is one of the first games I've played, and what a great experience it was. However I was never able to figure out where the last star was.

My older brother grew up with a DS Verison Of Super Mario 64 as kid.
Edit: In 2010 my older brother got a dsi but he had no problem playing 3d mario game with a D-pad as kid.

I’ve always seen SM64DS as an improvement to the original due to the additional characters, additional stars, updated character models, and mini-games. I’ve also heard a lot of complaining about the controls, but they’re not that bad once you get used to them.
With the analog controls and wide-screen mods you can get on the 3ds. It makes the controls much better

I enjoy catching them. They add a lot of challenge to the game imo. Tbh I don't think I ever found them all cause I've seen mini games from this game that I never got to play when I owned the game.

That damn black box on the file select was a clever thing to use for one of those "How to Unlock Waluigi" scams.
Unlike the others where it literally asked the impossible, that image was actually legit so I'd spend hours trying to hit an invisible block that wasn't actually in the level.
I think the Arceus2401 deal was the biggest theory ever.
The only problem was the questionable photos he provided.
The weirdest thing is that some of the stuff he said was actually true. Even a really suspicious chief chilly trick that no one thought would be real.

I really hope they make a Mario 64 remake for the Switch. No, not a re-release of the original, but a remake with updated Switch game graphics, extra stars, new stages, simultaneous multiplayer (both local and online), new playable characters (I think Toad and Waluigi would be cool), new music etc. There's just so much possibility here!

I just got a 3DS a few days ago and I can't wait to get this game! Thanks for making a video about it so I know what to expect when playing.
I didn't have 64 growing up, so I first got familiar with the DS version. The new content was so well integrated, I couldn't tell what was original and what was new. And the touchscreen control with the thumb thingy worked perfectly with a little bit of learning, I just wished it was static instead of moving around.
I got to play super mario odyssey today and NB released this. Best day ever!

You can get some tape and some paper and just tape the sheets of paper on the bottom screen
and I would recommend 3-4 little sheets because one sheet is very thin!

I've used the D-pad on the original DS, and it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. And I also use the circle pad on the 3DS.

3:58 It’s not the only Mario game on the DS that does that. If you close the DS when playing Mario VS Donkey Kong 2 Mario says “I love this game!” and “Come back!”, he’s more demanding in that game but in Super Mario 64 he’s more understanding.
This and New Super Mario Bros were my child hood! Seeing how I grew up with the DS I never had a problem with the D-Pad though

I remember all the road trips I took to Dallas in 2005 when I first got super mario 64 ds. Playing that game non-stop with my brother and 2 friends in a navigator. Playing the minigames and eating braums burgers, then getting food in the grocery store in the fast food restaurant. Damn those are some good times
