I got invited to Japan! The Japanese TV show called "Who Wants to go to Japan" finds people who have an interest in some part of Japanese culture and invites them to Japan to experience that culture in person for the first time. Follow along as I travel halfway around the globe to visit a wholesale (brokers and breeders only) live goldfish auction in Yatomi. Breeders from the surrounding area bring their fish here to sell in lots to brokers, who then sell these fish to pet stores and individuals. There were all kinds of goldfish being sold here... ryukins, ranchu, orandas, jikin, bubble eyes, telescopes, and more! Surrounded by thousands of beautiful goldfish, I didn't know where to look first! Thanks for watching #goldfishfam.
This is the fifth in a series about my Japan goldfish trip. Tune in next Friday for another adventure in Japan.

I think it's pretty safe to say that you have been deemed mother goldfish 😍
I agree...I have been a tropical fish hobbyist for many years, but I cant resist keeping and breeding goldfish especially Ryunkins. I think the difference is the breeding of these fish and the variety of colors and types that are produced. Also the fact that the fish require "handling by hand" for safe transfer creates a 'bond' that you cant get with tropical fish. Jenny...I enjoy watching your videos strictly for goldfish content - discus are a much different fish all together...they require much different care, beyond clean water of course...been there done that...favor the gold.
literally I found Jenny's videos like 3 weeks ago and I have been watching every single one her videos are so interesting and cool
I'm so glad someone cares about goldfish like Jennie. She has probaly saved 1000s of goldfish from abuse. No wonder they wanted her to be on tv
Yes Sweetie please she has killed or culled hundreds of fish watch her vids
Fish Fool The import part you're omitting is very interesting. Why has Mother Goldfish culled fishies? To spread further better genetics, which is very important in modified pets like these. Without culling the fish would die, either in a little kids home or possible breed by an inexperienced person spreading genetic malformations. So you either are for selling pets that will die or greatly suffer to children and hobbyists, which could spread more harm to other fishies genetically. Or you're for culling to save fishies from a horrible life, pain and their owns own grief.
Dæmon Græyson so I guess we should start culling children that are not perfect right ? We would be saving them a life of struggle in your opinion
A million culled fishies is better than endless amounts of fishies that would die prematurely and have sever malformations.
Dæmon Græyson killing because of imperfections is simply killing .im sure your not perfect should you be culled because of your imperfections
Ranchu, orandas, jikins, OH MY!!! Visiting this wholesale goldfish auction in Japan was definitely a highlight. What's your favorite goldfish type, and did you get to see it in today's video? :)
my favorite type of goldfish is the black moor! i have one named sushi, and he has an orange oranda friend named pumpkin!
and yes, i did see both in the video :)
I love redcap orandas. (I was the one who sent you that email the other day) :D
Solid Gold Aquatics my favorite goldfish are veil tails, and moors.
Solid Gold Aquatics my favourite goldfish are butterfly telescopes but in my country they are not easily to find and i keep orandas and ryukins
Butterfly Telescopes and no... :( I'm kinda sad 😭
The live footage of the auction action is wonderful. I never knew a facility like this existed and was so amazing. Great coverage!! (and thank you for spending camera time on the boxes of fish. Amazing and beautiful!)
I love the way you explain things, you are very thorough
Japanese orderliness is a wonder to behold. It was fun to hear how the auction was run, it reminds me of how so many parts of Japanese life operate. As an outsider, I found it beautiful to witness but I heard that many Japanese find these regimented processes wearying. On the other hand, Japan feels like a country full of craftsmen and despite the industrialization of the last few hundred years, the craftsmanship has been cherished and cultivated. Looking forward to the next chapter. Thanks for sharing this with us all.
Joey makes us wait from Wednesday till Sunday for another video
Glad to have Jennie to fill that empty fish related video stuff till his Sunday :D
I'm loving this series so much!! I had no idea Japan had such deep history with goldfish, it's amazing!
I like it. i can play it all the time because of those beautiful clips about goldfishes. i love it
very cool how they float the boxes through the canal so everyone can bid on them ! I bet you were dying to pick up a box full and have them shipped back to the house , thank you for posting
Yay I have been waiting on the next video like a child waiting on Christmas
Its my birthday today and my first year celebrating by myself. I was waiting all day for this to come out just to have a smile and escape to another place for a little bit. Thanks! Keep up to good work!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey to Japan. This has been fascinating and exciting for me. :D
LOVE THE SUNGLASSES
Your the best and the way you explain things is just magnificent
My favorite fish over all is the butterfly telescope gold fish I have a beautiful one:) great video keep the great work up
This whole part of the trip looked really cool. Such a fun experience.
that was so amazing and informative it was also pleasing to watch. thank you Jennie so very much.
Love this series, thanks so much for sharing.
very cool vid and sneak peek into another culture. Loved it
This was such a fantastic video Jennie! I think you should make a movie length documentary of the whole industry (of course being narrated and staring you!) You're so good at editing and explaining... I'm sure Netflix would buy it and you could make money for your hobby;)
I like how this is currently my favorite fish/cultural series rn and CZcams failed to notify me!!! What's the point of the bell 🔔 icon if it doesn't work‽ Anyway, YASSSS more fishes!!!
Dæmon Græyson it does the same for me too, I haven't has any notifications for nearly a week now
Jenny
Your trip is amazing and very informative. Stay Gold!
hey ,hi Jenni thank you for this amazing video and letting me go through your most beautiful Japan experience 👌👍
So many beautiful fish. Those Orandas! The auction was really interesting to see.
ranchu, orandas, and black moors are my favorite but black moors are my absolute favorite.
I loved learning about how they do the auction. Very cool!
That was such a neat auction, thank you for sharing your trip
such great footage, it must have been so fun
Looks like it was ran very well. Good footage, thanks for sharing!
Oh wow, that was really fun.!
I'm loving these!!!!!!!!!
Very fun and interesting to see how the brokers auction the fish in Japan :)
Really Fascinating thank you
It has been a trip watching your trip to Japan! I found you through DIY, glad I did!
I liked the white ones with red spots on their heads.
Wow that was really cool!
This is such an interesting experience! I don't really have any idea about fishes but I would really be thrilled to be in there
Neat footage! Even though the individual clips weren't long, I thought it was interesting how my eye got quite sharply drawn to goldfish that might have had cullable conformation (tails held more to one side etc). It's a testament to how wonderful the overall quality of the fish was that the few weaker ones jump out of a group like that!
Amazing place! Very interesting!
That fish auction looks cool
I would absolutely do my best to buy ALL of those ranchu and orandas I love themtoo much omg
I LOVE bubble eyes😍😍😍
Goldfish is becoming a fish I like from watching your passion for them 😊 it was really nice seeing this video wow it's Big Time
Hi!! Your channel is wonderful !!! It was very interesting to see how the kinguios are "produced" there in Japan.... I confess that I was envious because here in Brazil you do not see kinguios with this degree of quality .... kisses and success!
The auction, So cool
So cool!!
wow that was fun!
That is a really cool auction
love it!
So neat!
It's quite overwhelming for me to see that many goldfish at once since i'm only used to seeing 20-50 goldfish at most in pet stores. Not only are there thousands in there, but all of them are high quality ❤️
Thats really cool how the do the auctions
Too Cool!
Amazing
love you Jenny!!!
Those big Koi fish kinda looks like orcas at a smaller scale / fish version :D
Quite lovely (I like them)
I hope you have a good vacation!
omg that's my calico telescope almost exactly
ALL RAISE FOR THE GOLD FISH MOTHER 🙌
awesome!
Oh yeah Redcap Oranda is my favourite.
Wow!!
@Solid Gold Aquatics nice docks your wearing :D
Awesome
Jenny I'm so jealous! I'd love to go there!
thank!
Is it just me or do other people like how she says bag? ☺
I want to buy all of them 😍😍😍 Fly me to Japan
Lol you always have the best tunes in your videos. Where do you get this music from? Thank you for all your helpful videos. I think I have the healthiest goldfish in the world thanks to you :)
Im a huge clutz so Im most certainly gonna fall into the ponds just to look at all the fish under sunlight.
Ugh I'm sooo jealous of your life I thought I was the only one that had the same interests as you haha. You are goals girl 😍
Nice!
Such a cool experience, I always wondered how stuff like this was handled. Wonder how different it is over here in the states?
Would like a update on how your rebuild is coming along.
Aww I wish it was public! I would have bought many!
if you go to Indonesia, we are don't have a market like japan but we have interesting market whose sold many fish like goldfish, koi and many more pet fish in the early morning. I think it's very interesting for you.
oh man it would be awesome if you did get some koi fish, i love them so much, need to find someone who makes vids specifically of koi, much like you do goldfish hahaha, i keep mine in a large swimming pool XD, i only have butterfly koi though so
Awesome video again Jenny!!
I love Koi and Goldfish!
*Keep up the good work and thumbs up!*
#FishFam
What do you use to get your name tag on your videos?
wow that necklace..😍😍
I was so impressed when you were naming the koi fish but then realized that you work at a koi farm
If only I could turn my pool into a koi pond :P
Jennie, how do you get your goldfish so big? Plus, when you transfer your goldfish, why are they so calm when handling them??
Can you please do an update date on your goldfish please. I have found out how horrible it is to loose a lot of fish as I have had nearly lost all of my tropical fish due to flexibactor and a heater that stuck on. But all 30 of my goldfish are doing well hope to add to them some day in the future. Love all your videos and they have helped me to keep on fish even in the bad times so for that thank you so so much 🐟🐠
hey, what variety is that at 2:57-3:04? with the fancy bodies but single tails? they're lovely!
Officially heaven.....
You can do a lot with Koi in a small space. My pond is only about 2000g and I am hitting 2ft+ with ease here. I am not too far from Fishy Business, so next time you are in this area you are free to check it out to see what you can accomplish in a small space.
I live in FL and my temps a few years ago hit high 40's during a week long cold spell in winter, but otherwise we are not in a cold enough climate to worry about temps. Your depth will give some insulation for the lower temps, but not much. People I know in the northern areas typically build a frame over the pond and filters and run it year round just cutting out food through the winter time. The frame is covered with a few layers of clear plastic to create a greenhouse effect and their waters stay in the 50's during winter. The frame however does no good if you are in some bad areas where temps get too low for the greenhouse effect to take place. Over wintering inside is a better option in those scenarios.
If you decide to go deeper, if you have a more formal pond build, consider placing sheets of foam insulation board on the bottom and walls of the pond (with some sand to fill cracks and make a level bottom) prior to installing the new liner. This will prevent heat loss to the ground temps based on your freeze line. It could also help improve the effectivness of a cover over the pond for winters. A great example you can find on Koiphen with a pond construction done by a user "BirdmanofCO". His pictures will show how to install it.
Ok Jennie, my 55 gallon recently broke out with Ich. How do you recommend I treat it???🙏🏻
What is your opinion on Koi goldfish hybrids? Would you ever buy one if you had the facility to keep it?
Do you know at what temperatures the goldfish are raised? Are the winters rough in Japan?
Hi Jenni, I was wondering how your fish are, if they're feeling better and the progress on you fish room.
I am thinking about getting goldfish again and I wanted a calico fantail and my sister wants a black moor. Which would you think is the best?
I found it so fascinating how this auction worked! I visit many horse auctions and watching another type of auction play out is so interesting in my opinion. I'd love to visit there! 😍
I have a question. is it ok to put a small ranchu about an inch or so in the same tank with a medium sized oranda about 4 inches? im kind of worried the oranda will try to eat the smaller ranchu. My tank is 55 gallons. If anyone can answer my question it would be greatly appreciated.
I hope you buy some new Calicos again and breed them.
I have koi but soon I'm getting butterfly koi also I have 6 koi,1 fan tail gold fish, and more fish
I recently got a pool that's 4 feet tall and 15 feet around, I wanna get some gold fish, how many would fit? I'm looking at the bubble eye gold fish by the way.
you should get a pleco for your fish tank if you get algae
What do you think about the Derek doso what’s in the box challenge
