This has played out exactly like we all thought.
1. Reboot for no reason
2. Change character for no reason
3. Show sucks, criticized, ratioed to show dislike across the board.
4. Actress/actor and producers claim "toxic masculitiy" or "racism".

They made fred a scumbag because he was a white male dude, changed shaggy completely, made Daphne Asian by simply making her eyes long and thin, got rid of scooby, and only changed velmas skin color

And made velma kinda puffy instead of her normal physique.
tbf her sexuality being changed isn't new or even disliked, she is bisexual in Mystery Incorporated and afaik no one really cared much because it was a good show and her relationship with Shaggy and Hot Dog Water were good (story wise) for their own reasons.

tbh i dont think the race swapping is the problem. it's that the writers change their personalities to the point where if the characters had different names you couldn't tell they were from scooby doo.

@Gage King SHould've wrote my comment differently, I meant that I think changing their personalities is worse than changing the race, yeah both are the problems but if you change the race of a character at least we are probably still able to tell who they are(even if it is wrong). rewriting a character's personality is just plain stupid. - doesn't look like shaggy, even his hair is different
- doesn't talk like shaggy
- doesn't have the same character traits as shaggy at all (large mouth, unkempt, slouch, eye bags, stubble, clumsy, stoner, stupid and hungry)
- doesn't walk like shaggy
- doesn't go by the name shaggy
- doesn't have Scooby Doo with him

As a black man, I really don't like the changes. Keep the characters how they originally were and add onto that there. If you're going to add minorities make them their own seperate good character.
Daphne doesn't look human. No human being even looks like that, no matter the race. She was absolutely fine the way she was originally created.

Seriously! Even a shameless copy of the Scooby-Doo IP is nostalgic to Scooby-Doo's roots! No one would be upset with characters you photocopied and made your own over changing original characters and how their universe works. At least then, writing off the iconic talking dog is more sound rather than not knowing where to go with it.

My dad is a fan of Scooby Doo. Is his favorite cartoon ever. He is 63 right now. Even then, when he gets home from work, there's nothing that he loves more than to go into boomerang and put on some Scooby Doo.
I cannot imagine his face when he sees this, it will probably be mostly confusion with a little bit of sadness, since he is not american so he is not really up to date with this "let's blackface everything" behavior.
This show is like a fever dream where Fred literally lost his only friends and he is now trying to fill the void with different characters so he can stay sane. (Justice for my boy scoob, he was done dirty by the man)

I actually like a lot of these ideas: Scooby do gang solving an actual murder, having some of the characters poc, having a show focused on Velma (the one with the most flexible character aside from Daphne)… but did they need to kill everything that made the show the show? Did they really need to change everything about all the characters??

Not all asians have elongated almond eyes with monolids. I am Korean and my eyes do not fit the stereotypical mold that hollywood seems to think every single asian on planet earth has.

What they did to this serie is like if you took a chocolate cake recipe put salt instead of sugar, used expired cocaine as flour used your own pee as the milk and then put chocolate cream on top and say "look i made a chocolate cake!"
