    👍👍👍
Nice setup. I have filled my Trangia Burner with Ceramic Wool topped with a roll of Carbon Cloth and not looked back.
Lights up immediately, no matter the temperature. The pot can be put onto the stand straight afterwards with no risk (so far) of the flame being snuffed. No need to wait for the 'bloom'. The risk of burning fuel spillage in case of an accidental knockover .. greatly reduced. Performance .. no appreciable difference noted.
The heat exchanger pots with an alcohol burner .. I foresee the occasional 'decoke' of the heat exchager fins / vanes. However, no big deal and it will keep idle hands busy 😁.
Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

Hello Mark and thanks for the video. I've used the "Sterno Inferno" heat exchanger pot with an alchohol burner. The directions said not to do this, but it worked out fine and conserved a lot of alcohol when boiling. It is a good lite weight set up.

Another thing you can do is put carbon felt inside the alcohol burner during the winter, or any season. That way if there is an accidental spill it will less likely spill everywhere thanks to the carbon felt soaking up the fuel.

7:20 - This Chinese Trangia clones don't have the internal wick of Trangia TB25 burner - a cloth (Linen) tube around the outside of inner tube wall. So use pre heat, even in summer, to speed the bloom (jet start) time. The ALOCS clone have the wick.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft

So, all the Trangia clones that I have purchased, regardless of "branding" have wicks. Having said that, there is a huge difference in quality among the clones. ALOCS being the best I own, next to the Trangia. Thanks for commenting

I have a Sterno Inferno stove/pot set that I picked up a few years back. It includes a stand/windscreen and heat diffuser pot as well as a base with flip out legs for added stability. Great setup except for the crazy heavy and fragile plastic lid.
They seem to be getting pretty rare nowadays but are worth the purchase if you come across one at a reasonable price.

The only real advantage of a Trangia is that you can control the heat and store fuel in it. With a DIY stove, you have to let its burn out or try and put it out to recover the alcohol. Thanks for commenting Steve

Yes. I have one of those stands. I also seen that review from the other channel and wondered what he was on about because I don’t think he demonstrated what his problem was. I have a GSI rocket as well. Good coffee. The only con I have with it is it is easily knocked over. A fine grind also takes forever to drip through. I also wonder why Trangia never put the wire spring handle on their simmer rings. It is ace. When I hear you say the word “project” my ears prick up. Have you been trawling the thrift stores again? 👍🏻😂

  • @jimf1964

Sorry if I missed some of the explanation, my boss was talking to me, but your idea of preheating in winter is part of a winter accessory kit from Trangia. I made an exact copy from a thrift store stainless water bottle and a dremel. Works great, but it’s not a stand also. I use the wire stand and heavy foil for a wind break.
Good point about a heat sync for an alcohol stove. I guess people don’t because they go after the most simple ?

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft lol, I always give my work a full 90%. 😀
Yeah, so mine would be lighter, I’m sure. Unless yours it titanium, because it seems smaller. But mine isn’t a pot stand too. Those lines on the stove are in fact for that preheater. The heater has a solid bottom, with a small fibre glass patch for a wick. As I said, I have separate stand, which I believe I got the idea from you. The stainless dollar store skewers, and the cable crimps. Though I used cut off 22lr cases for one of them. Comes out to a pretty small package. Everything including fuel and lighter fits inside my 1l pot with tons of room to spare.

I have an Optimus heat exchanger pot where the HE is a smaller diameter than the pot. This allows me to use a vented piece of aluminum pipe/ducting as a combo windscreen/pot stand that fits snug to the HE. With a trangia alcohol burner in warmer weather i can get close to 1min./100ml boils. Makes carrying a noisy canister stove on day trips unappealing.

Thanks for the video Mark! Over the past year or so I have purchased a few items directly from Trangia via their website. That seems to be the least expensive source. I seam to recall another channel that REALLY likes to test stoves having tested the Trangia against the clones, and the original comes out on top, so I've decided to pay a couple bucks more for the original. But I love the idea of using a pot with a heat exchanger!

I have that chinese stand and Trangia burner clone. Stand does not work with typical 9.5 cm diameter pot like my Tomshoo 600ml (reads 650ml but is not). Except stand upside down, then sort of. Works well, but quite slow on my 11.5cm diameter Toaks 1100ml pot. Because the burn distance when the burner is on bottom of the stand is just something like 0.86inch. Needs a disc to isolate from cold ground under the stand. And as you stated a windscreen is needed.
The advantage of a smaller burn distance is less sooting and more economical fuel usage. I suspect that the stand might work a little as a heat sink though.
The guy who totally trashed this stove might be Luke from OutdoorGearReview, with title "Ridiculous Design - Red Camp Mini Alcohol Stove and Stand - Real Review". Then again Luke once could not get Trangia stormcooker, 27 or 25 properly together in his review of that excellent stove ;)
Btw Mark the copy burner is not very strong. The simmer ring holder can disengage from the ring easily. Also watch out for the temperature making permanent formations and the cap then looses ability to hold the stored alcohol inside, instead giving your pot bottom some denatured alcohol flavor. Also the soldered inner wall can disengage, making the burner just some vessel burning alcohol inside, instead a gasifying one, not very effective.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft I would not trust any cap to seal alcohol burner that is kept inside the pot containing alcohol. My advice is use 30ml measuring cup that fits inside the burner. Leave the cap at home and always burn it empty. Just take the burner with simmer ring/snuffer. Dosaging just enough for to boil. With Trangia fuel bottle and putting the 30ml cup inside the pocket or else wind takes it away.

I have one of the very same burners from Ali express and i have used it many times...i am very happy with mine as well.
If you have a problem with the three hands holding up the burner, i just had to bend one of the hands with my thumb back into place, because it had a tad bit too wide gap. It was very easy to push back in to place.
