I don't build models but I sure do enjoy watching these kinds of videos, they are very relaxing and calming. I really respect anyone who has the ability to put the world behind them and enjoy a hobby like this. The end result here is really awesome.
Thanks for watching Scott!
That's why I got into to it.im a truck driver and when I build models,it takes my mind off of things.its very relaxing and addicting at the same time.i build for a couple hours then it's bedtime.i only have 10 hours of break.Chris Thank You for getting me into model building.you know, there's alot of stuff you need to build these things! Lol
PS-
Needing more supplies,paint, toothpicks,sharpies,never ends .
I like your "call name".... Philosopher's Tone. I bet you saw the Frank Marino promo of that name-sake pedal. It's actually a very good look at Frank Marino at home. And how he incorporates those petals in his sound. Frank Marino, Robin Trower, Alex Lifeson, Greg Lake, Angus Young to name a very very few great guitar player! These were my idols growing up.
And yes, I'm very much into scale model building. mostly 1/25 scale muscle cars! So, It's Classic Rock, '60's music, while I build these automotive wonders! It's the Coolest hobby....
Rock on and Merry Christmas; Philosopher's Tone!
I'm guessing your are a musician. I work in Radio as an announcer. I have been doing it over 35 years now. I do love building models. That's been a hobby of mine since I was 8 years old. I play the right music for the models I build. Music matches the car and the mood.
"Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some f-in' muscle"
Alright alright alright!
that is exactly why i watch this channel. Chris is always so enthusiastic no matter what he is building
I'm surprised nobody made this quote yet "You gotta get some tires on it. Those are pizza cutters, man."
Ahh, Clint, the guy beating up Mike.
Hi Chris I have this kit in the lineup to build this winter. Love the final showing, that gloss black looks amazing. Always a great build, love your channel.
Enjoy!
Excellent build Chris, your tips are the best, thanks for these reviews! !
Thanks Ron!
Great looking build. I absolutely love the 70 chevelle and will be picking up several of these kits. I wish they would have retooled this kit but I'm glad this one is coming back out. Now i need to watch dazed and confused.
Thanks Joe! Enjoy your kits!
Thanks for the video. I like watching your videos with a side of comedy 😅.. I hate when those rally decals crack now I know how to fix them .. thanks 👍🏿
That's beautiful.
This kit is always staring at me when I'm in Hobby Lobby.
Someday I'll have to bring one home. Lol
Loved that movie - and love the build. Thanks - keep up the great work.
Thanks!
Just picked up this kit last week. Can't wait to start building it.
Enjoy!
Looks great you always do a great job and also give great tips
Recently, someone stole my 1973 SS Chevelle, Parted it, and banged up the body with a sledgehammer. I didn't have insurance, because I had just bought it. Now, I am just reminiscing about the car, and watching videos on it.
Great work and nice inspiration. Sure wish AMT would return some of their $$ into tooling upgrades for us. Like modify their 70 Monte Carlo frame/drivetrain/engine bay from their 90's kit into this one. Also I see the decal stripes are still too short. Maybe i'm picky, tough to overlook such things with a 1/1 scale in garage...
I hear you on new kits and stuff. I'm glad we have all these cool older kits to work on though. If it wasn't for R2 we'd sure be missing out on a lot of fun stuff and/or paying crazy ebay scalper prices.
I like your recent combination kit review and movie car builds. More please.
Thanks. If the kit can be matched up to a movie I like I'll try to tie it in. Glad you like it.
Very nice. I built this kit last time around and loved it :D
It's a good kit, easy assembly.
Great job as always. I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks Rich! Much appreciated!
Great looking kit. Loved all the references to a great movie. Thanks for doing all theses great reviews just subbed your channel.
Thanks Kraig!
I don't build my cars like you do but I'm really considering doing it that way. I'm kind of burned out with trying to do super detailed models. I've considered building like you do by building up as much as possible before painting. However I'm sure I'll here from my friends that I'm doing it wrong. After 40+ years of building detailed kits I now just want to build each kit without a lot of pressure on me
By the way, the LS6 was 450HP not 390 as Melba might have had. But really nice model and build! Thanks for the review!
Great job that was a car in it's day you really brought this one to life
Thanks for watching the video, much appreciated!
Make sure to join the fun on the hpiguys Workshop Facebook page if you haven't already!
I'm getting this kit , a buddy of mine had a full blown pro street version... thx for the video.
Thanks Adrien!
Awesome build friend .Realy beautiful .
Thanks Rik!
Nice 👍 I just bought one from hobby lobby. I use to build these when I was 8yrs old so now I’m 29 going to get back into it since my son is 4yrs old now 🤘🏽💪🏽🇺🇸
Go for it!
hpiguys Workshop : half to go with the 454 V8 though this car runs no prep 1320! 🤘🏽🇺🇸💪🏽! Kind looking to mod the belt any good ideas 💡?
Love the Chevelle 1970. The model looks great!
Looks awsome!.....big fan of the late 60's early 70's automobiles....
Thanks Dean!
Love channel. Keep up the awesome work. Question. When you're glueing the chrome parts on. Do you scrap of the chrome at the glue points. My self was always told to do so. As a kid and time down the road I seen where parts would fall off. Like they didn't bond well. Also. Do you do any building of multiple kits added to make one . Keeping the scale as close as possible. Thank you . Love the channel. My self I have a good size of a collection. Saving for retirement. Have you ever seen the kit of don the snake perdonme. It's double kit with his funny car and top fuel car. If not I may be able to pics of it. I haven't built it yet. The chassis looks a little involved. Sorry for the poor spelling. I'm. Dave. And from NY. Thank you sir.
Cool man! I’m workin on the Nova SS pro stocker from AMT. thanks for inspiration! Cheers from Maine 🍻
Have fun!
Great work Chris. Looks like a excellent kit. If I don't already have one, I'm going to get me one. :)
Thanks Vince!
great review Chris love this build
Thanks Jeff!
Love your vids and the way you build! Been building for more years than I can count and still pick up a tip or 2 from you. Sweet! I've never used Future as a clear coat. How exactly do you apply it? Airbrush? Does it need to be thinned at all? Thanks!
Thanks James.
I brush it on full strength with a 1/2 inch soft brush. Let sit once applied, do not touch it for a couple hours and it self levels.
Love the video i got this same build , what paint would you recommend the most for exteriors and interior. I did everything by hand this time but i feel the spray would work best
I love using Rustoleum sprays as I show in this video but everyone has their own preferences.
Nice work, great video, thanks again.
Thank YOU!
Benny I hope you brought your wood screws cause I'm gonna blow your doors completely off! Need to do the black C10 and the Judge. Sweet build👍✌
Thanks Jesse!
That's Alright, alright, alright! One of my favorite movies and my favorite car of all time. Gotta get one and do it red with black stripes.
Thanks Shannon! Like the Jack Reacher car!
My 1st kit I luv it good job I did it in red!!!
Cool Mike!
Badass Chris! I can dig it man! lol! That movie was set at the same time that I was in high school too and yeah it was a good movie, brought back a lot of memories for me too! Hell Yeah! 🤘🤘👍✌🏻
Thanks! Hell of a good movie! Need more like it.
Awesome build! 👍
Thanks!
Nice build, till next time, Wishing You and All Yours a Healthy Happy Thanksgiving n God Bless All
Thanks, Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
How do you glue chrome bumpers to the body of model cars. Mine just keeps falling off. Any idea will be great.
Thanks. I love how you build your models
John
I built the same one it is just a great kit loved it
Thanks!
I just bought this kit today and so far I’m gonna paint it red with the five spoke rims I bought this kit years ago also but my question is when you put on the grill did you have problems fitting The headlights into the circles when I first bought this kit I had problems with that. I used a hobby knife to slightly in large the holes so the grill assembly will fit flush did you have problems with this?
It is a very very tight fit, yes.
Love Your Review and Build Of The 70 Chevelle, I Have One but gonna Get A Couple More to Have One In the stash Unbuilt . I Watch A Lot Of Your Videos and I enjoy getting your tips on building. i noticed you used a brush on cement i a video and was wondering what brand it was, do you tamiya or testors ????
That chevelle looks fantastical.
I must say, for those who bash using Rustolem on models, you have amazing paint jobs.
I’m sure you have been asked before but anyway. Do you use full strength simple green or is it diluted? How long do you let it soak? And what do you soak the chrome in and for how long? Thanks. Amazing work like always!
Hello! I just pour warm water into a wash basin and dump some simple green in, doesn't take much. Cup maybe.
Scrub the parts and rinse it off.
To remove chrome I soak it in Super Clean for a few hours. To dull chrome I just shoot it with a matte clear.
Really sharp nice review & build
Thanks Charles!
Impresionante gran trabajo y cuidado de detalles
Thanks for watching!
Cool job on that. I just got this one. Looking forward to doing it soon.
Hope you enjoy it!
@@hpiguy yeah thanks. It's even better got it at hobby lobby 40% off
Hey man.... that Chevelle is far out & that LS6 makes me feel Dazed & Confused ✌😎
Great build like always man... Hey man I can't stop saying man ? 😉
Thanks 👍 LOL!
very cool build and awesome movie
Thanks, you bet it is Eddie!
Amazing build buddy!!
Thanks Whitey! Happy Thanksgiving!
Sweeeet! How do you get paint on the suspension parts after you have installed them on the chassis. The underside of the suspension parts where you can't see.? Just wondering.
Hi Jesse, I paint the chassis as a whole, off the car like I show. So you can flip and turn the chassis while you spray to get full coverage.
Awesome my friend!
Looks great. Like that black.
Thank you!
Dude, dazed and confused is awesome!!! I love the gto
It is, love that car too!
You should do a Plymouth super bird if you have one!!!
Great job
I have the jack reacher kit version but had fitting problems with the front bumper and head lights lining up . I used a lot of expensive paints and it doesn't fit properly. I would strongly recommend if you want to build a better 70 chevelle you go on ebay and find one made by revell or monogram. Even scale auto did a comparison of the manufacturers and found the revell monogram kit to be more scale accurate. And if you feel like doing a little kit bashing try swapping the engines from other revell kits like the 383 350 from the 69 nova or the 302 from the 69 camaro. All in all you did awesome job with your build but mine came out terrible.. the revell kit I just got went together perfectly and the head lights are individual pieces. I regret buying this kit but the tires all really nice
That was a great movie. Great video
Thanks Bruce!
Real spiffy lookin' build Chris! Yea, I'm gonna hafta get me a couple of those pencils. Called water color pencils you say? Hobby Lobby?
Thanks! Yes, hobby lobby. Colored pencils, they call them watercolor pencils some times.
My favorite all-time car. I might as well build a kit, cuz I don't think I'll ever have a real one.
They are a bit pricey. But the kit isn't!
Definitely one of my favourites 2
Thanks!
Bad to the bone brother Awesome love the movie also lol happy thanksgiving to you and your family keep up the awesome work
Happy Thanksgiving Thomas, thanks!
Great build
Thanks!
Cool dude, a must for the stash. Cheers
Thanks!
You just gave me a great new hobby to relieve stress. Plus 70 Chevelle is my dream car.!
Do you think by making models cars can help/inspire someone to build actual vehicles if you wanted to? I'm only asking that because it's obviously being built from scratch with all the parts in the kit?
Thanks for this video!
Any time spent tinkering with the hands is time well spent.
I'm sure models have inspired kids to grow up and wrench on cars quite often, so I'm guessing it's done the same for older people.
Wow!! I'll spare the quotes. 😂 I was always the paint / assemble guy. I have nothing left but my airbrush, twenty + years since. I will start back building and with a better way of doing things! Thank You Sir!
Thanks Kevin! There is no right or wrong, whatever you like best and gets the kit done is all that matters.
Alright alright alright....awesome mate, you know I love it !!
Slow ride take it easy
Thanks Gary! "Watch the leather man!"
Thanks Gary! "Watch the leather man!"
Dazed is my favorite movie of all time love the modeling just stumbled upon your channel 👍👍
"Say man. You got a joint????" "It'd be a lot cooler if ya did"
Turned out sweet!
Thanks Sebastian!
I know this is an older video but I just watched the movie last night. OMG the cars!
Thank you for spending some of your day on my channel!
hpiguys Workshop don’t mention it! I watch your videos while I build. It’s a great inspiration.
Was wondering, do you have any advice on setting decals?, I was horrible with them in my younger days, and afraid to ruin a cool build now that I have rejoined the hobby. Thanks again for everything, you are awesome....
See my review on the Old Milwaukee #27 car and the Enterprise D review, both have lots of decals and I showed how easy it is to apply with a bit of patience.
Just bought this last week! Guess I'm "cooler" now. What semi-gloss did you use on the seats, or did you Future flat black?
Yup, Future over flat black.
how'd you make the rims ''shadowed'', like on the Duster and the Chevelle, ive been told paint and a q-tip, but mine comes out like crap, thanks
Awesome!!!!
Great work!
Keep on livin' man! L-I-V-I-N!
L I V I N man! Thanks!
The good thing about high school girls I get older they stay the same age yes they do yes they do love dazed and confused have the dvd
Very nice build
Thanks Sam!
I'm having trouble putting on the front tires!!!! Is sure it's an easy step and I'll feel stupid when I figure it out but I can't.. how do u put on the front tires
No Bare metal foil? And you like the restolium pant over the testors or tamia? Great work, BTW. Can you give some tips on when to use white, grey, or black primer?
Never used foil, just don't have access to any.
I like all those paints use most of them at one time or another. Spray cans just work nice and fast to me and I have a huge assortment of colors.
For light paint jobs I use white primer. Dark I'll use grey or black, whatever is here. If you want to darken a light color just a bit, use a dark primer under it. Same if you want to lighten a color a bit, use a white primer.
Does any small company make aftermarket door cranks like detail master ?
Gee-he-he-heez-us, that front grill is a pain to fit in. I had to cut & sand quite a bit to get everything to fit properly. Thanks for all of the tips!
Yeah it's a squeeze.
Hey man I’m building the same model. I’m having a lot of issues getting the grille assemble to fit in the nose of the car. It just doesn’t seem to want to fit around the headlights and bumper line. Any tips?
It is an extremely tight fit as I mention.
You may have to shave some plastic if yours won't wedge in. Typical model fitting and adjusting will be required.
Did you prime before the saten gloss black ??
Your paint jobs are amazing. Do you buff out the paint ?
Hi Chris, thanks a lot! Nope, spray and pray. No buffing, no sanding. Old school model building.
I’m kinda new to model building I have this exact model how did you attach the rear and front bumper? I keep having an issue
Super glue works well for final assemblies.
Hi, on what PSI do you lay the Future ? do you 'flood' the surface it let set or build layers ? Thanks,
I wipe it on with a brush. Coat the whole model and walk away for a couple hours.
@@hpiguy Thanks! Didn't expect it was brushed .. looks very smooth : )
Nice build
Thanks Jeff!
Hey I had a question how did you manage to put the engine together I have the exact same model but having trouble assembling the engine did you have any glue by chance
Of course, you have to use glue on these kits.
What kind of glue would that be I was super confused since it was my first time putting it together
Your the best
How do you paint the wheels so well?
I'm Getting Big Nate Genius Mode In Paperback And AMT 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS For My 11th Birthday In May .
Jeremy Perez
Enjoy your models Jeremy!
how do u put the rear view mirror on i keep ruining the wind screen
How were you able to paint the slots on your magnum 500? I've always had trouble trying to do that
Nevermind, I see now lol
Haha, small brushes. Yup!
Thia is a must have!!
Thanks!
The quality of mpc has gotten better. Still not a fan of suspension and interior parts molded together, just easier for me to detail. But those tires are very nice!
The kits are still the exact same kits from back then, these are all reissues from Round2.
My sister had a '70 Malibu and I'd love to build her a replica. It was gold with black stripes that my dad put on. The only problems will be that it didn't have the cowl induction but it had rally wheels. May have to check this out!
SOOOO KOOOOOLLL .
As always . Mike Espo ....
Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice comment!
If you aren't on the hpiguys Workshop FB page, stop by and have fun!
I keep gittin older...they stay young...lmao!!! Dude cracks me up
Check ya later!
that chevelle looks great! i did the Jack reacher chevelle but do to some rookie mistakes i did it as alike a car that's been well taken cared of but paint was worn down, black roof and black under the side of the chevelle. but i'll do another down the line. maybe Revell's Heavy chevy over on ebay. but im curious if you would do the 1957 Chevy Bel air "spirit of 57" soon
Thanks!
Funny you say that, I opened the box on that '57 today. That's the next review.
@@hpiguy XD cant wait to see that beast! been haunted by that bloody thing suddenly after seeing a hot wheels/Matchbox customizer modified a matchbox flipnose Bel air and gave it a Really nice silver and Spectraflame copper two tone and seeing Round 2 rerelase that car from MPC
How did you paint the inserts of the wheels black
Check out my review of the 87 Grand National for some tips on that.
Murdervelle... nice job!
Another great job Chris!! Man I can't afford to keep watching you. lol Have you got the repop MPC flip nose '57 chevy yet?
Thanks Clay! I do, in fact it's the next review, doing the parts filming when I get home tonight. Will be too stuffed to build anything.
Hey Chris Very Good Review as Usual. My Best Friend Had A 70 Deluxe Non-SS Chevelle Malibu w 350- 4 bbl Console Auto.. I've wanted to build a Great Replica n this is the kit to Use. So ne thing .. you show parts pretty Well during your Reviews. But I noticed on a couple the non Stock wheels on the kit you didn't give a good view of. This would be greatly appreciated .. I sometime make decisions of buying this or that kit by Wheel set in kit I buy vs other kit ..
Since the MPC Retro "Spirit of 57" Chevy Flip nose post is in Review works. I have 2 questions on the Kit. The Model King Red body Reissue had Sweet Deep n Narrow wires wheels in it with nice
Traeded tires vs when I did kit corca 77/78 with the Unowueags of box art what wheels is Round 2 giving us?
Also in other issues of the kit there was a Gasser w Side pipes Double function Exhaust that wasn't I'm the late ,70s Dprit box art Release is this there?
Another Later than late 70*s reiddue of it had both Standard Gasser Straight Scle n Springs plus a Street machine Rake Lower front stance set as option is that there? Regardless Round 2 is doing great job with these Retro parts emgamced kits Thanks Again Walt
@@rickbeam2325 I'll try to make sure I show all the parts in the reissue.
You can always pause the video for a better look at something if I go by it too fast.
I can say that the Spirit of 57 in this issue only has one set of wheels. For the rest you'll have to check out the video review. :)
Chris Thanks pausing is a good idea but It appeared might not be in camera focus area.. it was the Second set of Wheels on this ,70 Chevelle kit I was curious about they look sorta like the Semi TA custom. Honey Combs found I'm the Reissue MPC Dart Sport w Figurines in it
