Nothing satanic going on here, just old school metal theatrics. The giant statue in the back that eventually crumbles is an homage to Metallica's "...And Justice For All" and the neck brace is an homage to a famous Japanese metal band, X Japan, whose drummer injuring his neck from headbanging too much so he had to wear a neck brace. This song is usually used as the opening song for their shows, but in this concert which was for the lead singer's 16 birthday, it was the closing song. They don't usually crucify anyone during this song, except for special occasions like certain birthdays and special shows.🤘🦊🤘

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
1st) of all, the song title is "Babymetal Death" not just Death alone, is a common mistake because of the way is written in the title of this clip.
    2nd) France.
    3rd) We're -NotACult- 👀
4th) This is the plot of this live performance👇👇
The Fox God (a metal god) has sacrificed a teenage J-pop idol and reborn into a metal goddess queen. We've been blessed by the Fox God. 🦊🤘💀
This was during SuMetal (the lead singer) 16th Birthday at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's the same place you saw them performing Gimme Chocolate!! official MV.
The other girls are MoaMetal and YuiMetal, both 14 yo here, YuiMetal left this female group in 2018, now they got a new member called MomoMetal (20) since this year but she has been performing with them since 2019.
The neck brace is a tribute to Yoshiki, one of the founder members of X-Japan, a visual key metal band, he's a living legend and almost a god for Japanese, he suffered serious injury when performing live while headbanging, after some surgery he needed to wear a neck brace. BM introduced this accessories at live concert since Headbanger!! (another must watch song). In this case they're summoning the metal god spirit when wearing that neck brace.
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official (2015)
I'm gonna try to leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to watch if YT allows me.
Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      czcams.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/video.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      czcams.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/video.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      czcams.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/video.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      czcams.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/video.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      czcams.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/video.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      czcams.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/video.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      czcams.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/video.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      czcams.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/video.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      czcams.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/video.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      czcams.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/video.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      czcams.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/video.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      czcams.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/video.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      czcams.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/video.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      czcams.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/video.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      czcams.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/video.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      czcams.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/video.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      czcams.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/video.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

I had to laugh when I heard the one guy say he had an idea of who Babymetal was based on Gimme Chocolate. NO!! You have no idea. You would be right when it comes to any other band but Babymetal is one of those bands who will surprise you every time. You never know what they are going to do next. If you don't like one song, the next one might be right up your alley.. This song, which is actually titled 'Babymetal Death' not just 'Death', and 'In The Name of' are there two semi instrumental songs. Everything else will include lots of singing.

Good first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊I think this has been said by other commenters, but I couldn't help laughing when you said you'd heard 'Gimme Chocolate' and their part in 'Kingslayer', so you had a good idea what to expect ... 🤭Oh no you don't have any idea based on that song!
'Gimme Chocolate' does not prepare you for BABYMETAL. That was the video that went viral in 2014, they have nearly 70 ore songs and you will not find another 'Gimme Chocolate' - unlike most bands who have a certain sound or style and stick to it so you can say they're a thrash band, a power metal band or whatever else, BABYMETAL mix it up every time.
They have songs in virtually every metal sub-genre (thrash, power, speed, folk, Prog, djent, black, death etc) but they will also mix in so many other different styles and genres. You will never be able to predict what the next song will be like.
On this performance of 'BABYMETAL Death', there is a translation to the intro in the description under the video you watched that might help a bit.
There can't be many bands who would crucify their lead singer on stage to celebrate her 16th birthday (Legend 1997 was the title of the show celebrating her 16th birthday in December 2013).
Basically this show was the final step in BABYMETAL transitioning from Idol group sub-unit (it had this narrative running all the way through and even started with a lip-synced dance remix of their song 'Headbanger') to independent metal band - it was also Su-metal's final step in her transition from J-Pop Idol - she was sacrificing her human existence and life as Suzuka Nakamoto, a J-Pop Idol, to be reborn as Su-metal, a Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance.
'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener (without the crucifixion) - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:-
"B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death."
It is a play on words. There is no 'TH' sound in Japanese, so to a Japanese speaker the English word death sounds like desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means "To be - I am - you are - we are - it is" etc.
All they were doing throughout the song was introducing themselves by name and introducing BABYMETAL by name - and 'death' is just the sort of thing you'd expect to be chanted by any self respecting metal band and their audience while the lead singer is crucified.
There were a couple of homages in this performance too. The opening drum riff is an homage to Metallica's 'One' and the statue crumbling at the end pays homage to Metallica's Justice For All tour of 1989 where they also had a statue (Lady Justice) crumble at the end of their shows. The neck brace is a tribute to X Japan drummer/pianist/songwriter/composer Yoshiki who damaged his neck so badly headbanging that he had to wear a neck brace a lot of the time, especially when performing.
On special occasions 'BABYMETAL Death' was used later in the show - it was the finale here at Legend 1997, the show celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday ... and they only crucify Su on special occasions. The last time it was done with these sort of theatrics was at Legend S, Baptism XX in December 2017 to help Su-metal celebrate her 20th birthday - and that one had extra flames.🔥🔥🔥
Try 'Headbanger' also live at Legend 1997 - look for the video posted by abr metal or Gans Tomas to get the best quality version of that - or 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan for your next reactions.

Nice first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on another world tour that includes many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album just a few months ago! They also just released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello.🤘🦊🤘

Hahaha! From Gimme Chocolate to this, epic. Babymetal is definitely great at the shock value!
Also, best sweet 16th birthday party show closer ever, lol (lead vocalist, Su-Metal born in 1997). Being sacrificed and crucified in front of friends and 10k fans to be reborn as a metal goddess is just epic.
They do typically perform this son as an intro. They purposely say “Death” as a cute but metal way of saying “Desu”, meaning “I am”. E.g, Babymetal Desu = we are Babymetal.
Definitely do Road of Resistance live next for epic crowd control and wall of death!!

Japanese love puns, and “BABYMETAL DEATH” is a pun. “Death,” spoken in katakana comes out as デス (“desu”, which is the same as です: “to be” [both sound like “dess”]). The girls sing, “SU-METAL DESU,” (I am SU-METAL), “YUI-METAL DESU,” (I any YUI-METAL), “MOA-METAL DESU,” (I am MOA-METAL), “BABYMETAL DESU” (We are BABYMETAL).
The neck brace is a call back to their MV for HEADBANGER, and is also a tribute to the drummer the legendary Japanese Metal band from the 80s, X-JAPAN. He hurt is neck because of his over enthusiastic drumming and began wearing a neck brace while performing.
The statue that is so evocative of the Virgin Mary is the Fox God, who brought BABYMETAL to the world, as explained in the voiceover heard at the beginning.
Japan is not a Christian country, so there is no “Satanism” there, and the crucifixion iconography means nothing to the Japanese.
That said, I would never recommend BABYMETAL DEATH as an introduction to the group. It a performance piece for opening the show. It’s not a read song. I recommend the OMV for MEGITSUNE (Vixen) first. Then the oldest live videos of ROAD OF RESISTANCE and RONDO OF NIGHTMARE (with MISCHIEF OF THE METAL GODS intro).

Good one, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
Nothing to see here, Just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and like 9.000 of their fans, all chanting DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! ... I believe that's pretty normal. 😁
Well, although that was true, now seriously, you were right "BABYMETAL Death" (that's the name of the song) is usually the way they open their shows. Because what they are actually saying is "Su-metal desu. Yuimetal desu. Moametal desu. BABYMETAL desu.". Meaning "desu" (the "u" is almost silent), I am or we are. So, they are basically saying "I am Su-metal, etc.". By mispronouncing "desu" you have a cool and metal way to introduce yourself.
But this time they used it as the final encore of the show. All the concert (Legend 1997) was an allegory about their transition from a J-pop idol group sub unit, to a legit metal band, apart from being Su-metal's (le lead singer) 16th birthday party.. It's hard to explain all of this on a first time reaction (actually, it's very rare)... but they started in 2010, when they were 12 and 11 years old within a bigger school themed J-pop idol group called Sakura Gakuin. They split in early 2013 and this concert was held on December 21st 2013. So, this was the final number, symbolizing Su-metal's sacrifice as an idol and a human to reborn as a metal goddess.
The neckbrace is a tribute to X-Japan's Yoshiki Hayashi who had to wear one by medical prescription (even during concerts) due to excessive headbanging. Other homages on this video are the initial beat (Metallica's "ONE") and the crumbling statue in the end (Lady Justice) again to Metallica.
As a suggestion this is from the same concert, two songs before and it's more lyrical so to speak: "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): czcams.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/video.html
    Until next time!

Su, who was crucified was celebrating her sixteenth birthday. How this ties in, is that she left the school of Sakura Gakuin, which is like an idol school. BabyMetal started out as a sub unit of Sakura Gakuin, so she died as such from being a member of Sakura Gakuin and then became reborn as Su Metal, making BabyMetal a band in it's own right.
The neck brace is homage to the drummer from XJapan, They are a long established metal/rock band from Japan. The drummer was head banging so hard, he damaged his neck and so has to wear a neck brace. Even in a very early BabyMetal show, Su says after the last song: "Take care of your neck."
Not really sure if BabyMetal will be your thing?

The Japanese word "desu" (です) is a copula (= to be). The Eastern Japanese almost drop "u" of this word, so the word "desu/des" sounds like "death". And someone started writing "DEATH" instead of "です" (desu). It makes sense only where the Japanese word "desu" is expected to come. The title "BABYMETAL DEATH" means only "We are BABYMETAL." No relation to the death itself.
I'm not sure of its origin, but I saw long before such a character as a vampire or a death metal singer in a comic and all his "です" (desu) were replaced with "DEATH" to emphasize his character. With such an air, it works well. Without such an air, it probably doesn't work.
There is a genre named "Death Metal". The sound of this tune seems to fall within that genre, and the lyric writer may have put many "DEATH"s to emphasize the Death-Metal-ness. It might be alright to use many "DEATH"s without thinking of death if some of Death Metal bands also chose their style just to differentiate themselves rather than driven by the feeling about death. But I don't know the Death Metal well.

Good reaction. Babymetal Death is not the best song to enter the Babymetal galaxy. We usually recommend it for the fourth or fifth song.
Indeed, Death is a song that they normally used as an introduction to their concerts and it is a play on words. In Japanese "we are" and "death" sound, to our hatred, very similar and in reality what they say is "I am SuMetal", "I am YuiMetal", "I am MoaMetal", "We are BabyMetal".
However, this concert was special and they used this song to close it. It was special for two main reasons:
The day before, SuMetal turned 16 (Who didn't want to celebrate her birthday crucified while 9,000 metalheads shouted "Death").
And secondly, because a cycle was closing in BabyMetal. Until then the group was a subunit of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin and they represented, within the group, the heavy music side, although Sakura was primarily a J-Pop group (BabyMetal was an experiments of one from the producers who wanted to see how the fusion of J-Pop with metal would work). But Sakura represented the Japanese high school and all its members graduated when they turned 15 (it was usually made up of girls between 10 and 15 years old), so SuMetal graduated that year and had to leave the group. The producer requested permission from the company to launch BabyMetal as an independent group and this concert was the starting signal.
Su's crucifixion represented, on the one hand, the sacrifice of SuMetal's humanity to be reborn as a metal goddess (the mythology surrounding the group is extensive and evolves album by album) and, on the other hand, the break with Sakura Gakuin and the group's continuation in lonely.
A lot has rained since that night and today they already have 4 albums on the street and 13 years of history behind them.
One of the characteristics of BabyMetal is that there is no "BabyMetal style", but rather each song is different. Well, there is a BabyMetal style: all their songs are a waste of energy and you are always left with a smile on your face... except for this one, which is why I said that we don't consider it (or I consider it) the most appropriate to start with. ...deceives you.
I hope you continue on this journey through the BabyMetal galaxy and that soon we can meet in the fox hole (the fox is a very important symbol in BabyMetal)

neck brace is for headbangers, dedicated to some musician who broke his neck headbanging in concert. In Japan, christianity is not important, so this doesn't mean there what it would mean here. This a show, not a religious statement. It's about the lore of the band. It shows the "sacrifice' of SuMetal so that she could be reborn a metal goddess.

You have got some explanations below.
But, the main info is that this is their normal intro. They present themselves.
In this concert it was, for some obscure reason, the outro.
Except the intro part, there is a parallel part of the singer Su becoming a metal god.
In particular since this was her 16th birthday, which is an important birthday in Japan.
She should die in order to be reborn as the metal god.
But, as I said, the main reason for Babymetal Death is introduction and play with the Japanese word Desu, that sounds like Death.
    * Babymetal - Death/Desu !
    * Su metal Death/Desu !
    * Moa metal Death/Desu !
    * Yui metal Death/Desu !

@@moshpitreactions Hi. I was wrong! Checked it up. 16 is nothing special in Japan. The special birthday is 20. That is when you become of age. So, it just happens to be Su's 16th birthday. I know they did a similar thing for Moa. I think when she became 20. Never seen that one though. Maybe I am wrong there also :)
BTW - Sweet 16 is mainly an American thing. Maybe I have got my faulty information/memory from someone commenting on that.

I hope you enjoy finding their old and new work, they are so unique and excellent. If in doubt find a live version, most of the time it has an energy to it that is unmatched by their studio / produced performances.

@@christopherjohnferrer3771 What are you talking about? This video *is* old Babymetal. Babymetal was gothic fantasy from the beginning that slowly introduced more and more scifi elements as time went on.
Babymetal has a cheesy gothic-fantasy scifi storyline that progresses as time goes on. None of it is suppose to be taken even remotely seriously, to the point they've had blatant homages to Star Wars with 'Darth Vader' on stage, and to Marvel comics.
