    The "stolen" goal incident might have bee the best thing to happen for the relationship between Rafa and Pulisic. Leao supporting Christian after that incident was huge. You can see it in their recent goal celebrations and them linking up more on the field. They are each enjoying the success of the other. Having both wings clicking like this might just make up for those defensive struggles.

    I liked your mention in the live stream about the Frank Lampard quotation on Chrisitan Pulisic. The two key points behind his statement on Pulisic's goal-scoring are that he is a very good dribbler and a good "poacher." (I don't think Super Frank meant poacher in any negative way as it is sometimes interpreted. He meant Pulisic always seems to wind up around the net getting "cheap" goals.) Everyone notices that Christian can dribble. In fact, he dribbles too much in the middle of nowhere when he would be better off passing. Sadly, Chelsea wanted Pulisic to be Eden Hazard. First off, nobody is prime Eden Hazard, and second, that is not his game. The least understood and most unappreciated aspect of Christian's game is why he is a good poacher. He is a very intelligent player who can see and sense the evolution of the play developing around him and makes runs to be in the right place at the right time to create a potentially dangerous situation. He sees it and then does all the work constantly to make the right runs. At Chelsea, Giroud was one of the few who saw and appreciated what Pulisic was about and got him the ball on his runs. A map of Pulisic's goals at Chelsea goals would show most were right around the net, not at the top of the box; I am not saying he can't score from there. He can and does with either foot. What I am saying is that his game in essence, is about being in the right place at the right time, which is what makes him a great goal "poacher." By the way, Super Frank was also a great goal-poacher.

      @@whenisdinner2137 Indeed. He is fast, but would not win any sprints against Timo Werner or Rudiger or several other then-Chelsea players, but I would put his first four steps up against anybody. He is WAY more quick than fast - and he is fast, and quick is more important than fast, which is why on today's run to stick in the Okafor rebound he wound up a step and a half in front of the defender marking him.

    • @warrenchristie7729
      @warrenchristie7729 Před 2 měsíci +7

      @@integralmark And never stops making those runs even though most produce nothing. If there was no rebound today, few people would notice that Pulisic had made that run or care, and while his defensive intuitive understanding of the game is not on the same level as his offensive one and neither are his defensive skills, but his work rate getting back when he senses danger is as good as his work making runs on net, and he doesn't stop. Great engine. I don't want to get into the Pioli discussion. I don't know enough about it, but I feared Pioli would be in a long line of coaches who don't understand the seeming mundane and largely invisible values of Pulisic, not his sometimes fancy dribbling, but Pioli seemed to get it from day one and just stuck him on the wing and said this is my guy. Good for him. And now he is getting repaid for that judgment.

Now i can’t imagine he had anyone and talented as pulisic and Samuel opposite him at the time. Imagine Giroud leaves and they switch Rafa to the 9. Pulsiic already is an unselfish winger and the same with Samuel. Olivier is on the way out and you wouldn’t have to spend 45-60 million on zirkzee. I realize Leao is devastatingly fast and like to operate from the wide, but could be an avenue to try on occasion.

    In the summer, when I saw Pulisic's purchase, I wasn't happy. I thought he might have too many physical problems and I thought that after the last 2 bad years at Chelsea he wouldn't be the player he was before, especially because he had to play as a right winger, and for someone who has always been used to playing on the left and coming back with the right would not have been easy. for the first few months I continued to think like this, despite the goals and assists, but the Pulisic of the last 2 or 3 months is proving me absurdly wrong, this player in just a few months has learned to play as a left winger, and he does it like if he had always been a left winger, he manages to be decisive in all sorts of ways, he skips the man both by going to the left and dribbling, and by going towards the back to cross, and above all he does it without anyone's help, (on the contrary of Leao who is close to a phenomenon like Theo Hernandez Pulisic is close to a mediocre like Calabria). In practice, Pulisic is proving to be a player with superior intelligence, plus rare technical skills.

    The call out on the defenders doesn't make sense if u take a deeper look into it. Milan against Verona defended quite well and conceded very little, hence why Verona's XG was around 0.50 which is fairly low and that shows we handled them overall. The issue with this Milan defence is rather sloppy mistakes or being inattentive which is hurting us alot as well as a lack of a cdm who can sit and protect our backline. The Verona goal is a perfect example, pulisic sloppy touch and RLCs inattentiveness to the danger (plus a brilliant shot) was the only reason we conceded, Calabria, Gabbia and Bennacer didn't have the chance to close down Nuslin as it was a terrific and quick snapshot. Milan just need to stay concentrated for the full match and clean up the sloppiness whilst remaining close together in all departments in order for the rest of our season to be positive which is why the call out was unnecessary considering the defence played a solid match.

Its this lack of concentration in the young generation I repeat that can cost a game.
