2022 VW Tiguan Review - A Classy Alternative

  • The newly refreshed Tiguan is a premium option to those who need cavernous size but don't want to drain themselves of fifty grand. Starting below 30 grand, the tiguan makes for an attractive option on paper when compared to the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4, Subaru Forester and Mazda CX-5. Find out how the Tiguan stacks up to the competition and who this is for in my full review.

    I’ve test-driven the Tiguan a few times. Not the most powerful drivetrain (but perfectly adequate). But its handling is really sharp for a family SUV.
    I actually preferred driving it compared to all the other non-luxury compact SUVs. It even felt better than the CX-5, though that might be because I felt the CX-5 had large blind spots.

    6:13 I disagree. I’ve compared a 2021 Audi A6 with the B&O and a 2018 beetle with the fender audio and I think the beetle has way more bass.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  Před 2 lety

      Interesting observation, the fender system in the beetle and the tiguan are going to feel different because of their size difference (and the hardware differs usually, impreza Harmon Kardon is different from Outback Harmon Kardon) so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Can't say I have tried a beetle's system, but the A6's was great when I tuned it to my preferences!

  • @ksorsomeplace
    @ksorsomeplace Před 2 lety +4

    Price is high. The updates on the front are a nice improvement in my opinion. Would like some other color choice other than black, gray, or beige inside, though. I, too, think the real buttons on the steering wheel are better than the touch. Same the HVAC controls. The Arteon has the same setup. Personally, it feel its a step backwards when the other 3 dial setup works so well. The should have just jazzed up the dials. Give the dials a new finish (maybe a polished outer ring and textured center and knurling on the knob) ? Too much shiny black inside and not enough variation. I would love to save the $1000 or so on the moonroof and have a delete option. I never use the things, but I can use the $1000! You'd think VW would smack in a 200+ hp engine and give some excitement behind the wheel for those who want it. They've got the motors and tunes!

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  Před 2 lety +2

      I agree with all of that too, if they could make a tuned version that makes closer to gti numbers, that would make it more worth it in the upper 37-40k range, then it would be an awesome package. Those dials are ugly and id like some upgraded physical ones over that touch stuff too. Audi kills it with the A5 and A4 hvac controls, I wish vw could take some queues from them. The features you have at the base level are pretty good, and an SE or SE R line comes with all of the features that a limited Forester or CRV EX-L so I would say that it's right where it needs to be outside of the top SEL in terms of price but it just depends what your priorities are to justify that price.

    • @ksorsomeplace
      @ksorsomeplace Před 2 lety

      @@Realistick Good observation. Priorities definitely have a role in justifying the price. VW acquired Audi. They've got access to the parts. Look under the hood of the VW's and you'll find the Audi logo cast in to many of the parts.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  Před 2 lety +1

      @@ksorsomeplace You definitely will find that, they use a tuned version of this engine in a lot of Audis too, they just cost cut a bit too much. I'm curious what the actual cost difference would be if they borrowed from the Audi parts bin.

    • @ksorsomeplace
      @ksorsomeplace Před 2 lety

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  Před 2 lety

      For me, I like the touches of the r line black, the parking sensors, ambient lighting and I was probably going to add the pano roof anyway so it wouldn't be a big price bump over a panoramic roof SE model. As I've said a million times the cup holders need a cover. The seat selection is just adequate and could be a lot better (especially for 6'4 drivers like myself). I hope they add dual zone climate control, and for heaven sake another USB port in the rear. Nowadays, everybody in the car carries a cell phone, so 4 ports should be the standard from now forward.
    Too bad the center console doesn't extend or ratchet anymore (a traditional VW feature). Note to all car makers, stop treating rear seat passengers as if they're in steerage.
    BTW, what they don't tell you about the CR-V or the RAV4 is that overall the VW is more refine and the ride of the car is far superior to the other two (dynamic chassis control)

    I did a test drive yesterday. I have a CX5, and here is my thought.
    1. Tiguan has 10-20% more cabin noise than CX5. With 60m/h speed, CX5 is between 60-65db, Tiguan is between 65-74db.
    2. Tiguan seat is the most uncomfortable seat no matter the leatherent or leather seat.
    3. Anyone who says Tiguan is quiet on youtube is either a liar or numb.
    After finding a long re-call history of Tiguan, I ordered a new Subaru outback ... I wouldn't buy any VW or Audi. I mean, if someone wants to try German model, then there is Benz and BMW .. right?
    If someone wants to lease a VW, then it's fine. Quote: "It's expensive to be poor."

    • @coreyfreeman6226
      @coreyfreeman6226 Před rokem

      That's because the CX5 comes with 19 wheels and fatter tires. while the VW comes with 20 & 21 thus more road noise. I personally prefer a fatter tire which is usually quieter but the shorter sidewall on the Tiguan = better corner performance. Most quiet car is the new Lexus RX350

    • @lomoyang3034
      @lomoyang3034 Před rokem +1

      @@coreyfreeman6226 Not exactly. 2022 Tiguan comes with 18-20 depend on trim level, there is no 21inch for 2022. You can verify my conclusion on VW website.
      I didn't check the wheel of my CX5. But I think you are correct about the tires. But when comes to the wind noise, Tiguan has lourder wind noise than CX5, probably due to it's boxy design.
      And you shouldn't compare these two with RX350...RX350's competitor should be GLC, GLE, X5 etc.
      You are correct about the performance part. The handling, body-roll is better on Tiguan. Personally, I don't really care about performance for any model at non-luxury level.
