Jon Stewart Trashes CNN Again & Again on 'Larry King Live'; Questions Rick Sanchez Firing

- (10/20/10) During an appearance on "Larry King Live," Jon Stewart remarks that he thinks that Fox News is: "brilliantly authoritative. They know what they're doing. People would take well to heed how tenacious they are, how bold they are. They express editorial authority."
Furthermore, "I think they're wrong. But I appreciate that they're trying. And, you know, I don't think it's a right and left thing. I don't think that's what's going to be important. I think CNN has a -- an opportunity to be a real arbiter. But being a real arbiter means taking a stand, not just having people on -- you're on the left, you're on the right...both terrific points of view. You know? It's about being authoritative, about earning credibility. CNN, more than anybody, has the infrastructure to be able to accomplish that."
In regards to Fox News: "I think they're tenacious. I think they are confident. And they are -- they are showing the model of how to build an organization that believes in something. I think what they -- I think it is wrong-headed for a news organization. I think they've built an incredible political organization, really effective political organization."
On another note, Stewart denies he was the reason Crossfire was canceled during the time Tucker Carlson represented the Right on the show: "I became an easy excuse for people up top who wanted to get rid of a show that was sort of low ranked."

"Newspeople shouldn't be talking about tweets"
Jon, I've come from the future.
I have some bad news.
He already knew
Moss, I come from the future. The POTUS now sends out decrees by tweet.
Stepen Colbert should watch this at least once a week. He needs to get back into the groove of *r e a l* satire.
@@poltronafrau The POTUS has been doing it since 2010.
Every one of Jon's critique only exacerbated in the following years.
The camera men and producers or whatever who are laughing behind the camera make my day.
+James Fox
O'Reilly's people laughed like this, too, when Colbert was on Bill's show. It's a good watch.
When Jon Stewart was on Bill's show they laughed too
MegaMech you'd really have to watch your ass laughing at his jokes on a show like Ó Reilly, jesus he'd be out for your blood.
Octavian Caesar Hibernicus not just fired but thrown out a window, lol

"Why do you pick on CNN so much?"

Probably because they know each other.
john gleason I like Larry King, he is a true journalist. I remember his interview with Ahmadinejad, it seemed personally distressing for him during some moments but he kept focused and reigned in his emotions. A pro.
You and 155 people are not very bright.... He showed great respect for and complimented Larry while trashing CNN.

Well then, as a Muslim, I fucking love Jon Stewart
@@lmfk6155 dude, im a muslim(well, non practicing actually) and i cant find any reason to hate Stewart. Palestine is screwed, Hamas are backed by Iran and Fatah are backed by the Hashemites and Saudi. Middle east as a whole is a complete mess.
He's a legend
A little unsure why you ever would have thought otherwise...? 🤔🤔 Were you propagandized by media like Fox News, to think he was disrespectful, and a simpleton?!
Jon is just a delight to listen to. Very funny guy but extremely smart.
Melvin Ochieng I think to be a very funny guy - especially the type of comedy he specializes at - You need to be smart.
There is an obvious correlation between hilarious individuals and their ability to hold intelligent conversations with intelligent opinions.
Friendly Jon All very true.
Well said
We need more people like Jon Stewart in our society.
yes we do

LMAO JON STEWARD IS LEGENDARY
Who?
Michael Madore When?
+Liberal Atheist Vegan Feminist He was pointing out that he/she doesn't know who Jon STEWARD (not Stewart) is.
Why?
Where?
King: "Well, these are human beings, and they are Tweeting us. Do you have no respect for them?"
Stewart: "No."
My favorite exchange. X D
DeusExMachina10001 Stewart called it, how toxic Twitter is!!
Every time Jon Stewart goes on a interview at another network, no matter in CNN or in Fox with O'Reilly, you always hear some random guy laughing in the back. That's the magic of him.
I don't know where Jon Stewart ends and Tony Stark begins.
Holy... shit... you're right...
Holy fuck youre DarkMatter2525
Yet another awesome comment from DarkMatter2525. You always make me laugh.
Yep, and Stewart, in cutting through the crap here again, is dead-on: Fox, bad as it is, knows what it wants to do, while CNN just wants to throw the world up on the screen, given from a very America-centric POV, and see what sticks, making as few editorial (but not business) decisions as possible so as not to offend anyone's idea of "the truth". But if CNN doesn't know what the truth is, how can it possibly judge what news is? Oh right, it can't - which is the problem; random tweets are just as valid as "information and opinion" as speeches from world leaders.

Proud to be romanian! And still loving Jon Stewart!
nu cred ca a incercat sa ne faca de ras jon. dar totusi nu prea avem jurnalisti macar gluma sa fie atat de intepatoare
I'm gonna miss Jon so much.
He’s back, baby.
Now I love Trevor Noah but isn't it ironic how Jon said people are gunna say who's that with the funny accent
Because, "once again a job Americans refused to do is done by an immigrant" -Trevor Noah
+LUFC Holmesy
A bit, but the difference is that The Daily Show (/Comedy Central) wasn't a sinking ship haha . . . . is now though
+LUFC Holmesy I was about to comment the same thing
+LUFC Holmesy Trevor Noah is okay at the comedy aspect of the show, but he is completely lacking in an ability to critically analyze american politics. Kind of like Piers Morgan he just doesn't seem to understand how america works. It really is a shame that we lost colbert and stewart at the same time. There is a huge hole left in the political satire department on tv nowadays
+Devan john Oliver? Samantha b.? they scratch the itch
Say what you want about Jon Stewart, there's not many rational people like him in the field of politics- even if its political satire.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Whenever Jon goes on cable news, whether it’s CNN or Fox News, there is always at least one moment when the producers or camera operators crack up it’s great
The smartest and most real person on US TV.
Tweets: "They're human beings don't you respect them?"
Respect is not the issue. That I don't want to see random people jump out on the court and start playing at a Nicks game has nothing to do with a lack of respect. Same goes for news.
perfect analogy.
Yes, exactly! If I respect the people I won’t reduce them to one random opinion drawn from a fucking hat lol.
Jon's realization of Fox's motto was hilarious.
Cooop!
What's up Coop???
My god, respect for John Stewart went up 10 fold.
Don't know how many times I've watched this but it just keeps getting better.
Jon nailed it. Ted Turner's vision eviscerated.
Little did he know that one day the President would be announcing policy and firing government officials on Twitter 😂
Stewart got a South African to replace him, he pulled a CNN.
+mcaddicts Ye i was thinking to myself, and he has been replaced by a south african that no-one has heard of.
That's... racist...?
+mcaddicts Yeah, and who the fuck is watching that show now?
I've tried watching it, it's just not as good. Stewart seemed like he wrote most of his jokes and with Trevor you can tell it's the writers. Its just not his style of comedy.
To be fair, I watch the show and thoroughly enjoy it... then again, I've only watched Jon Stewart for 2 years... many have watched him since day 1.
There is one thing I like about Jon Stewart's show that should be implemented in main stream news media. And that is inserting media bites that contradict exactly what a politician is saying. Like Obama continuing with Cuba trade embargos but then flashing back to 2004 when he said that Cuba embargoes should be obolished. That's the kind of news that is informative of the character of the person in question.
YES
two months ago... wow thats some premonition you have there... Damm Obama just ruined your argument!
+Teodoro Abdo, Obama did sign the document that extended the trade embargo earlier this year. And Obama did make a speech in 2004 saying that it should be abolished. John Oliver pointed this out on Last Week Tonight. I like tobacco this that John Oliver had something to do with Obama's current change of heart. Aswell as Obama's stance on the demilitarisation of the police following John Oliver's segment on Ferguson.
Man was this ever so true. Its just like when Hilary Clinton stated she went to Bosnia and was amidst the attacks and war and was brought up to what she had claimed years before during the '08 elections. Assuming they arent benefactors to their past most medias who are capable of showing such news don't for political and personal gains.
Alistair Bowen-Davies I do love John Oliver, but do you seriously believe that he has the tiniest influence on what the president does?? A program with barely 1 million subscribers? I'd be amazed if Obama even knew this program exists! But back to the argument... You are aware that Obama just lifted a bunch of regulations on Cuba right? basically anything that can be lifted without the approval of congress. So yeah... I think its pretty consistent with what he said back in 2004.
One unfortunate thing about people's views on Stewart (whether they are positive or negative) is that they are usually a whole sale kind of thing. For example, if you don't like Stewart occasionally pushing Progressive agenda points that's cool, I an understand that, but that shouldn't - I believe - take away from the fact that he was one of very few people who was willing to stand up to some pretty big and powerful corporations and say, "You guys are doing it wrong."
You could hate the Daily Show, that's fine, to each their own, but I find it hard not to respect Stewart's balls to actually go on these shows and really criticize people and their shows. It's funny I see a lot of comments (not just here but on any board for a Stewart video / article / whatever) where people lump him in with the stereotypical view of the Left being whiny, PC police, but here he clearly gets pretty angry about people who have been fired for tweeting, or saying off color remarks. Something the Right - usually - would align themselves with.
It's kind of funny, in the end, the love and hate for Stewart - which is usually a whole sale thing - is exactly the thing he was against for most of his time on the DS. The idea that you are in total agreement or disagreement with someone is a bad thing. So the posts that both hail him as a savior of sorts and also decry him as a destroyer just prove that one of his big points was dead on.
I agree. I love The Daily Show and I think Stewart is hilarious, smart, and one of the most truthful people out there. Except I don't always agree with all of his points on the show. I may lean far to the left as people see it but even somethings he says are way too far for me. Some of the fans I see are just as blind as the people they hate. Love everything he says because he said it. Those are the people I don't understand.
It’s America in general nowadays. You have to align with either the right or the left, and have to believe in two ideas about topics that are not at all related to each other. That’s why I’m an independent
Very well said.
A massive generalization but alright
You know why you gotta love Jon Stewart? Because when hes on this show, or Bill Oreiley's or any other talk show like this, you can HEAR the CREW BEHIND CAMERA cracking up.
I love how he's killing the staff in the background. That's true comedic prowess.
Rick Sanchez got fired? I thought he was in prison for everything.
Love Jon Stewart sticking it to CNN. If only more people did that publicly.

Godzilla52 "Wolf Blitzer has some credibility".. lol
Godzilla52 Yes, because he has no say in who he is/is going to be, like a puppet... Come on, at the end of the day you have to live with yourself-Blitzer included. If he doesn't agree with the direction the show is taking (doubtful), then fucking say something. Or quit. If he doesn't like what he's doing (again, doubtful), and he still does it? Then he simply doesn't have any integrity.
To think that CNN was once respected... Circa 1991.

Jon Stewart got me laughing again thanks to his show! I thank Charles Gibson when anchoring ABC's World News Tonight when he did a segment on this outstanding host.
I love the quote: someone in the bathroom said to me...
The CNN playbook goes like this: "That is an interesting point. What a great point you brought up. We really love talking about that point. Folks this is Fuckface and our guest today is John Johnson and this has been a great interview. We'll be glad to have you again. "
Then they cut the feed and never invite the guest back.
jon stewart is my hero! only guy on tv with any common sense.
Jon Stewart was probably the single most influential voice in America at the time. Some very powerful people listened to this, and acted. ironically, it's the lasting effect of those editorial decision's that's crushing CNN into the ground today.
I miss this John Stewart
was jon calling out larry for making up a question and calling it a tweet? "that sounds like more than 140 characters" is my source for this

Woosh.
Look, the reason's why some people can relate to Trevor Noah and why some people can't relate to Trevor Noah are simple. The people who relate to Trevor Noah understand what it means to work hard and bare increasing responsibility. what it means to defeat inhibition and really take a step into the dark, to really make a change for the good. Some people may dispute that the change Trevor Noah is making is no good. To those I say, ermmmmmmmm, he is making me laugh, he is making my friends laugh, he is making our parents laugh. He is bringing people together by inspiring a quality of goodness. Something, anyone can do but few have such rare opportunity such as Trevor Noah. And look, I don't like to put people on a pedestal at all. I am completely against the idea but given the current state of affairs almost everywhere in the world, where it is almost second nature to step on someone before you yourself get stepped on. I quite like that Trevor Noah has a voice at the daily show, he's that one mate you don't mind seeing everyday at work.
when he shudders in horror and says "... that's their motto?!" is my favorite part

I'm a full blown conservative, watch fox, will vote trump, but always appreciate Jon Stewart. He was honest and held everyone accountable, gotta respect him for that.
you appreciate jon but you cant see trump is not someone that should represent you??? choose to pay for your mistake or your gop mistakes whatever you want to call it. call this election a lose. you have elections in two years for the lawmakers. in your place i would i either vote democrat or at all.
i think you have the right to be republican. you dont have the right to sleep well calling yourself a conservative and then vote for trump. that guy shouldnt be liked by anyone. christian atheists progressives conservatives.
he is a liar and a psychopath. he is only successful, because he was born in wealth. guys like this do whatever they to fulfil their own selfish desire. he simply choose to run for republicans, because a lot supporting his agenda are supportive to the party.
i am pretty sure he took the party and took a big shit on. if i recall correctly this year was a year that you would open to the minorities and trying to be open to more ppl. i am pretty sure that is what your party was planning before trump was elected
dont vote someone you dont believe and is going to destroy the face of your party and usa for years to come.
i am an outsider, but i follow this from the beginning and trump is not worthy to run a household let alone a government. also sry for my bad english i was too sleepy while typing this i hope you get my point and i at least made you even a little more sceptical towards this clowns face.
john smith I don't represent republicans nor am I a member of their party. I will simply vote for whoever I think is best suited to the job and will stand for what I believe. If that's a democrat then I will not hesitate in supporting them either. I'm kind of like you - independent but conservative.
I believe in our military. I think it's disgraceful that we can give money to other countries and give welfare to criminal illegal aliens whilst there are homeless vets. Trump will change that, Hillary hasn't said a thing about it.
I don't believe that we should be attacking rebels that are fighting isis. a common sense approach would be to make an alliance with russia, bomb the shit out of isis and then focus on the rebels but in the mean time we should let the rebels kill isis.
I welcome Trumps economics which are to threaten manufacturers such as Ford with huge taxes if they leave the country which will keep jobs here as well as reducing taxes on big businesses so that they won't go overseas where taxes are less. I also believe we should give the unemployed jobs instead of welfare.
I think drugs ruin lives and believe stopping them from coming into the country is an important issue.
Trump stands for all of the above. Hillary has other beliefs which I appreciate you may believe in. Of the points I mentioned, which ones do you disagree with and why? And honestly I don't care that he says mean things - I will vote for the issues a candidate represents not how hurtful some of his words were
yakikadafi ok you are right and wrong. Hillary is no good. However Trump will not stand or fix any of those problems.
Especially the issue with manufacturers is a huge lie considering who Trump is.
I wish you a good day sir, because you really love your country and I respect that. I hope though you don't vote for a lier psychopath like Trump, because you and your are better than him.
john smith I appreciate your comments and truthfully I think neither are perfect but lets face it, it's either Hillary or Trump and we have to vote for whoever we think will be better.
yakikadafi yeah you do. but dont think you are the only nation with this problem. we dont have the two party system here in greece and we still face sth like this each election.
This is really funny. He talks about how Larry King being replaced by a foreign guy no-one has heard of. Sarcastically says it's the way to go and then Trevor Noah
Elroy Foster Context matters. He said it's a terrible idea for how to save a sinking ship. CNN's ratings and viewership have been falling for decades. The Daily Show is Comedy Central's biggest hit by a long shot (excepting Colbert) and still was at it's end.
Also, they tested Trevor. He was on the show and the response to him was wildly positive. Piers was just thrown on haphazardly.
2010: you can get fired for calling some one on Twitter a bigot
2019: lol wut??
Those were wonderful times back before I knew who Piers Morgan was.
Jon Stewart is the kind of guy who when his class of people get's bashed, he understands that's a natural part of society and moves on gracefully. Unlike them. This is why democrats, although not perfect, are better then republicans... O'reily or Hannity would've just gotten loud about the subject then ended the segment. Now lets talk about reinvesting in science and education instead of war... believing in science not religion ... not involving ourselves with foreign affairs without the UN's consent... It's crazy how they make me feel crazy for being sane. How'd that war in the middle east go? You know the one that the UN security council declined the legitimacy of invasion. The one Bush's father started and he attempted to finish.

"if ignorance is bliss, then Knock the smile of my face." - Zack De La Rocha
I do not follow Stewarts show or comedy - but I do believe he is spot on with his comments and analysis. CNN has squandered all of its credibility and resources chasing sensational journalism that spikes ratings instead of credible, investigative reporting that simply keeps ratings strong. That guy should not have been fired. FOX laser sighted extremism is something CNN should consider in regards to reporting accurate news. Strong intelligent analysts are drowned out by UFO/bigfoot pundants when they squeezed in between large sections of crazy. I would give Stewart (not sure if he is a journalist at all) a job at CNN (heck do you even really need a journalism degree to even work at 24hour news channels).
This is the most honest interview i have seen in years.
It's absolutely hilarious that he makes a comment about "who better to bring in than a guy nobody has heard of and who talks funny?" Literally several years later he does the exact same thing with the daily show by bringing in Trevor Noah. One of the biggest complaints I have about US media is that they keep bringing in people from outside the US to report on the American experience to fellow Americans. Trevor Noah hadn't even lived here a year when he got the show. Yea you can do all the studying you need to but you still will never match the experiences of being American. This is one of the reasons the liberal media has gone so down hill and ratings across the board are at an all time low.
I like how Larry King was like "JON !!....STOP!", Cnn would have crucified him if he agreed lmao.
AC, and 360. Priceless :)
this is comedic because of who has been tapped to replace jon stewart. nothing against trevor, i think he could do a pretty good job of it, look at john oliver, another perspective is always nice. but come on, his joke about piers replacing larry king clearly applies to trevor replacing him.
kght222 This interview was taped in 2010
Hectics184 i know that, it is comedic in retrospect.
kght222 Except Trevor is very well known.
I2I18I5I14I4I5I14I where? he isn't very well known in the states, even in south africa i doubt he is as well known as imagined. piers morgan was very well known in the uk, doesn't mean dick in the states. i like trevor, i think he could do a great job with the daily show, but every argument/joke john stewart states in this piece could be used for trevor noah. hardly anyone in the states knew dick about trevor before this announced replacement, the same can be said about piers morgan. for me the difference is that piers morgan is an oblivious douche, and i haven't seen much of trevor noah.
kght222 Also, about Sanchez being let go over a tweet as an excuse. Stewart is suffering the same fate, he is paid a lot and the numbers are not there.
Jon Stewart saying CNN is dumb to "try to float a sinking ship with a British guy nobody has ever heard of" is ironic as he left the daily show on the hands of a South African guy nobody had ever heard of. (Btw, I love Jon Stewart I am not knocking him, just think it's a little ironic)
There's one essential difference, though; The Daily Show wasn't a sinking ship.
The Bacons Has
