great video.....thanks for showing us how to measure a throttle potentiometer...I had a feeling i was doing something wrong and thanks to you things are clearer now...By the way I'm not sure if that potentiometer is defective...its quite possible the potentiometer shaft is no longer aligned with the bushing that holds the lever...Sometimes the little setscrews that are pushed against the shaft are not torqued enough causing the shaft to rotate slightly putting it off balance ...that would be my guess but I can be wrong...

Is it possible to copy a TPS? I have the classic mechanical potentiometer with a worn strip and can't seem to find anymore for my car. I was wondering if it is possible to copy it, perhaps retroengineering an electromagnet solution?

Yes you can. 7se your test meter to check the actual resistance between wiper and term I. Then purchase a pot of that value and fit it in place of the existingmone. Be careful to buy one of the same anperage
That's all very well but: I had a problem with a Shoprider throttle pot which measured fine, but was still preventing the scooter from working. The fault was traced back to the pot's connectors (male and female) Some moisture may have entered and corroded 1 or more of the 3 contacts and in doing so upset the resistance balance read by the controller. A spray with some proper electrical contact cleaner fixed the problem. Don't use WD40 ! The correct way to test the throttle pot circuit is to test it at the controller end. That way you're testing the whole circuit. ie. pot, connectors and wiring. Testing the pot only, as you've done would have others moving on and thinking the problem lies elsewhere.
Thanks. I found the throttle pot on GoGoscooter had a 10K resister in the center lead. So It should be 5K from side to side and then 12.5k from center to either side. (could see was something under the shrink tubing, and thru tested I determined was 10K). ANd when operate the lever, then the center goes from the 12.5 to 10K one way, and to 15K the other way. So if went by the stated 2.5K I would have condemened it.
I'm having trouble with a pot on a mobility scooter the control system is flashing saying its a pot fault but it seems fine when tested with this method shown its bang on centre it works fine sometimes then flashes with fault code even tried a new potentionmeter

You have a problem with the brain it's self
Before you buy a new "electronic brain, check out the wiring loom.
So the pot is bad if there is no reading at all outside to outside?
