    Haaland has a lot of Goals and Assists? Then?
    Haaland scores a lot, it means that everyone in ManCity are creating for him, instead of creating for each other to have everyone scoring.
    The TOTAL number of goals that ManCity scores is not going to be increased because Haaland is there. He just takes away the number of goals his teammates could have scored.
    Assists? A miscontrol in front of the goal that bounces off towards his teammate can be considered as an assist. It doesn’t mean Haaland has the creativity of Firmino creating goals for his teammates.
    English fans and a lot of casual fans overrate G/A and efficiency. They forget that where do G/A comes from. They are from build up play. If you have a high G/A but you don’t have much build up play contribution, it means that you are just taking the G/A from your teammates, because the TOTAL overall G/A of your TEAM, won’t increase if you don’t add more build up play into it.

    I am sorry. I don't think he should win it. It's bad for football. Guys like Lamine Yamal, Endrick, Vinicius, etc. should be winning these awards in the future. It's not an award about who scores the most goals but who is the best footballer.
    Halaand can play bad for 89 minutes and then score one goal in the 90'' but someone like Yamal, and Vinicius who perform magic for 90 " and not score a goal should not be ignored.

He then comes to City and breaks all goalscoring records in his first season and wins the treble, and he's currently the top scorer again despite missing two months through injury, yet he's not world class? Build up play has become more important in the modern game.
    Modern teams are more compact vertically. Which means the distance between their strikers and their defenders are closer. They defend with 11 players forming a block.
    Therefore, you need 11 creative players to break down that block. That’s why modern defenders and goalkeepers are required to be so much more technical on the ball.
    In the past, being a goal hanger isn’t that big of a trade off, because your team could still be able to create through a 4 men defence. But nowadays, you can’t afford to be one man down in the build up process because you are facing 11 defenders.
    This is why modern football has become more “TOTAL”. A striker’s job is not just finishing, but also defending and creating. Otherwise your team would be in a numerical disadvantage in the defensive/build up phase.
    The same applies to defenders and goalkeepers. Being “TOTAL” not only means you are not in a disadvantage in other phases, it allows more position swapping opportunities to break down those low blocks, hence more tactical flexibility. This is why serving the system has become so much more important in modern football.

This is where the issue arises, when he doesn't score, he literally does nothing else. Isak for Newcastle, might not be able to score as many goals, but he contributes more to the build up play. These stupid journalists know nothing about football..I'm a City fan and I watch every game and I would happily swap Haaland for a Harry Kane or a Isak

      Now it looks like Peps training/tactic start to take effect (makes him worse). Could hope it is season 2 curse and he comes back stronger next season.
      but yeah Haaland should get away before getting ruined at City

  • @thierryhenry674
    @thierryhenry674 Před 16 dny +5

    There is no “one main job” in modern football.
    “A defender is bought to defend”?
    So as long as he is great at defending, he can keep passing the ball to the opponent, and avoiding the ball when his teammates are passing to him?
    Haaland is just a goal hanger. He is a massive liability in the build up.
    As a result, his team will have less and lower quality of possession, ball progression and chance creation, which will eventually reduce the total number of goals his team can score.
    Three times against Arsenal this season. Haaland is invisible, and registered an extremely low xG.
    If ManCity had played a tekky/creative false 9 instead, Arsenal would not be able to defend. Because ManCity’s tiki taka play would be so much more dangerous, it’s like they have 16 players on the pitch.
    The purpose of football is to maximise the TOTAL number of goals your TEAM could score. It doesn’t matter if you score 50 goals a season if you are the reason your team is scoring less in total.

      @Bert-lw1ot Před 16 dny +3

      What your team WINS is the most important thing. And they won the treble with him! If your team scores 5 less over a season, but your opponents score 10 less because they’re scared to commit players forward, it’s a net gain of 5 goals, even though you’ve scored 5 less than the previous season!
