The sort of depth to the character where it's Anakin's hatred for himself, his rash actions, the weakness he showed in succumbing to his own anger and fear and allowing them to drive him toward evil...He truly believed he was unworthy of forgiveness and could never find redemption for all he'd done.
Vader was the personification of more than just Anakin's worst impulses and darkness - he was Anakin's jailer and torturer. And Anakin lacked any sort of conviction needed to break free, because he believed he deserved to be punished. Even the ambition to kill Palpatine and usurp him was just continuation. If he had pulled it off somehow, he'd have never been "happy" but not because Sith inherently want more.
Because he firmly held that he had earned unending suffering. Literally the only thing that snapped him out of this was the realization he had a son - but more than that: His son actually BELIEVED in him and risked his own life for the slim chance of reaching the good that remained. For the first time in so long someone had faith in him and without any conditions attached.
Those are the kind of beats that are sorely missing in Disney's iteration of the franchise.
so, kenobi (the show) may have been a recent change/addition, but it does kind of show how Obi-wan came to use the explaination that he gave luke.
Darth told him directly, that it was he who killed anakin.
that said, while he may have told himself to believe it, and told luke it, as it was probably the more kind option than telling him he'd have to kill his dad. who he idolised, Obi-wan would always have kept the hope that anakin could be saved, and probably never, even after he became a blue ghost, gave up on that hope, even if he was a bit bitter over everything.
I feel that Obi-Wan desperately hoped that Anakin could be redeemed, but didn’t want Luke to be hanging on to false hopes, and Vader had told him to his face that Anakin is dead.
Perhaps Obi-Wan didn't tell Luke what he believed, but rather what he believe Luke needed to hear.
I see reverse psychology what Obi-Wan says to Luke is the exact lie that Vader tells others

I just imagine Vader trying to sleep but getting angry because he's constantly in pain and then an old ass ghost of Obi-wan shows up out of nowhere with a "hello there" and then precedes to troll the ever living shit out of him.
"dragon" is quite apt for Vader, in a literary sense. for most of the original trilogy he is just that, the terrifying beast to be overcome, the slave or pet of the real villain. it's only in the prequels that he's given the context and character he deserves, even if the execution in those movies is flawed. that's why things like the expanded universe and the later Clone Wars series did so well. they gave us more on Anakin as a character, as he began to show signs of looking sway from the path of the Jedi, then also more into his state of mind as Darth Vader.

I've read this comic and it's one of my favorites. When Vader says that he is 10 times the Jedi Kenobi was it's really Vader confirming that Anakin is still in there.

How does Vader get off claiming that he is now the master because he defeated Obi Wan? Obi Wan literally dropped his guard and let Vader kill him, and Vader knows that. Was he so desperate for victory that he'll even claim a win that was handed to him on a silver platter?

He's talking about the dark side. Obi wan gave up because at this point Vader was more powerful then him. He was very old and was loosing his power. The reason he lost on Tatoine is because he just got his suit and didn't have enough time to perfect his skills in the suit. But his rage and lust for revenge got the better of him and he charged in unprepared.

Kenobi was already gone into the Force when Vader hit his cloak. Vader didn’t know what had happened but decided he had “won.”
This is why we need a Vader show/movie. There is so much more story to tell of him and he is money. Put in in the content, people will watch.

We don't know when in time Kenobi is communicating with Vader from. Force ghosts can transcend time and space do who is to say Kenobi hadn't already seen the outcome and came back to Vader afterwards?
Well, you could say that Obi-Wan and Yoda knew that only through the Force, not their own words or teachings, could Luke truly be led, and that he needed to following his instincts, influenced by the Force, to do what must be done without being told. In universe, at least. Out of universe, IDK they effed up. xD
I would like to stick with what Empire gives us. For the sake of argument I would think Obi Wan sensed Anakin but is not sure if Luke could reach and bring him back giving how deep the Emperor had his claws in Vader and all that Vader had done since Anakin’s fall to the dark side.
What the hell does 'balance to the force' even mean? Killing all the Sith? That doesn't seem very balanced.
I think considering the force lives in everything, that since the Sith controlled the empire, and the empire subjugated and was so evil towards the galaxy that balancing the force meant destroying the empire.
Maybe Obi-Wan just knew that Luke could pry the goodness out of Anakin in the end.

Here's my thought. We all know that Luke is uniquely stubborn. Being a part of the cosmic force, I see no reason to believe that Obi Wan knows what Luke needs to hear. Don't forget, Anakin is the chosen one. He needed Luke's relentless love and compassion to emerge from the husk of Vader. So even in death, old Ben was still guiding the Chosen one. Just more layers.
I don't really know. ... Except that whatever is said to Luke by Kenobi can always be seen as being within a certain point of view. ... Can be seen as what was said in Empire is what he & Yoda felt was best. .... ⚖️

The different feelings of Kenobi between the 2 sources can be explained as Disney didn't do their homework and they just dont give a crsp.

I disagree. I think for the most part: fan expectations were too high and everyone got pissy because of it. Sure y'all might have a few good examples but the hate boner a majority of Star Wars has for Disney needs to go away. If you really can't find any good parts of what has come out: just stop watching and stop commenting on it.

Fully destroyed continuity between the six movies. Completely ruined Georges story Having zero respect for the man. Having so much that doesn't make sense in these star wars shows and movies. Having the actors come out and express their displeasure with their roles and its 100% justified. Terrible stories bad cinematography really bad action. I can go on and on and on. I grew up on star wars and I have a very serious emotional attachment to it and they have destroyed so much of what I'll loved about it. And no can't be telling fans to just move on and stop watching stop commenting it's not a good defense.

Vader in legends is way more dangerous , Vader in george lucas' Canon is fairly powerful, yet the legends one is a higher skill and force abilities(I'm not sure the emotional and mental aspect of him)
In-universe: Kenobi being a dogmatic Jedi. For some reason I can't see the "free Anakin by offing Vader" as his intent.

Yeah, they retconned the timeline by 10 years with the prequels & subsequent media. The novels and other media had them closer in age and Anakin older in 4-6. See Zahn's Heir to the Empire novels, etc. At least it was cannon for 2 decades, back when we had a sane SW universe.

Well... Some of that may be true - however his beginning was very important however I guess it could have come in the form of memories and dreams. However his turn was gradual from a specific point of view. The approaching anger, the struggle, the hate he felt from dooku, speaking against the council, the tuskan raiders etc etc gives you indicators over and over that he had darkness in him and that he was slowly slipping. Now you may say okay well he's not a sith but he has darkness, that's enough. They gave you a lot of hints as to what was going down.
