I like to think that the Mandalorian faction that Din Djarrin grew up in took up the old ideologies of the True Mandalorians post-Thousand-Tears, and that's why they have such strict and honor-bound cultural traditions. Even Bo-Katan Kryze started turning back to honor-bound traditions when the might-makes-right code she'd served for so long had cost the entirety of Mandalorian society, with the first seeds of doubts planted after Maul, a non-Mando, became head of Death Watch and inheritor of the Darksaber. The Mandalorians became so shattered with no foundations, that all sorts of unique superstitions of what it meant to become Mandalorian surfaced from the ashes of Sundari. A society in diaspora. And perhaps with the allusion to the last living mythosaur beneath the glassed planet's surface, there may soon be a rebirth and a new Manda'Lor, perhaps with someone like Bo-Katan leading the charge. Bo-Katan is getting a redemption arc with Din Djarrin and the Children of the Watch as the primary catalyst.

For those interested in more of Barriss Offee’s backstory, go read the two MedStar books. She isn’t a main character but still gets pretty fleshed out in a unique way. The books themselves are very unique as it’s almost like a Star Wars version of the old show M.A.S.H.
Lot of focus on the triage side of war, how the doctors learn to get over/cope with all the death and injuries, as well as a bit of humor and sexual tension (there’s a couple nude scenes, but I mean it’s a book lol but hey that won’t stop you from using your imagination).

I don't think it's entirely true that the Death Watch represents the older and more honest Mandalorian values and character; in various (mostly legends, I believe) sources it's said or implied that Jaster Mereel's Supercommando codex was a revival or new take on 'the old canons of honor'. I'm not too familiar with the old republic games and material, but I think at least as far back as Canderous Ordo during and following the Mandalorian wars, and in my opinion likely to various degrees before, there was tension over how Mandalorians should behave and regulate themselves within the clans and in relation to the larger galaxy. The works of Mereel and the reforms of Ordo and of both mens' peers were all part of a larger ideological/philosophical reaction to the perceived extreme behavior of certain clans or ideological factions within Mandalorian society by other clans and factions, or to other percievedfaults or defficiencies in their culture. Ultimately, Mandalorians are, like any culture, not a monolith, and vary as much across the breadth of their own populations in any given moment or era as they do change as a whole over time.
We can even see this conflict of characterization in the meta-narrative of Mandalorian society: early descriptions of Mandalorians in Star Wars characterized them as 'a group of evil warriors who were defeated by the Jedi during the clone wars', but their earliest depictions (other than Boba Fett) were as sympathetic victims of the Empire and honorable warriors as exemplified by Fenn Shysa and Tobbi Dala. Karen Traviss, rather famously or infamously, depending on your perspective, really esteemed the Mandalorians, while Lucas and Filoni both added more complexity to Mandalorian culture in the form of the New Mandalorians and also portrayed Warrior Mandalorians as a simpler evil archetype (though as the video describes, this was expanded upon in a more interesting way later).
No one perspective on who the Mandalorians are is right or wrong, and it would be a disservice to good world building to try and make them one way or another, like the Jedi and Sith- they are a living culture that consistently has a lot of argument and division and argument over their own identity, laws, values, etc, and they're more interesting that way.
Whoops, wrote a mini essay, lol. Anyways, thanks for the video, I always enjoy your content, and as you can see, it gets me thinking, which I enjoy.

Great thinking! After reading this, I agree with this wholeheartadly - there are MANY Mandalorian Clans, and us such, many varios traditions and interpretations about Personal and Greater Mando heritage in each of those clans. So, there isn't "right cultural path", only variations of cultures, that survived time and outside impacts.
