It's gonna be sad when Captain Rex loses most of his brothers when the Galactic Empire wipes out their Rebel cell before he, Commander Wolffe and Commando Gregor secluded themselves on a distant desert planet for a long time until Ezra Bridger and his friends show up.

It might not be all bad, I'm pretty sure more then just Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor will survive, and some of them will just go off and do there own thing away from Rex's group.
Of course, were still going to lose several Clones. I'm like 100% Crosshair is going to die, 50:50 on Wreckor. Hunter will 100% survive because someone needs to raise Omega, and Echo I'm like 80% sure will make it since at least one member of Domino Squad should survive. Of the three new Clones introduced in The Bad Batch; Howziler, Fireball, and Nemec, I'm sure at least one of them will live the other two will die, ti's just a matter of determining who it will be.

In a way, that's a great political message about workers and the rich. We're all going to be tossed aside, left to starve, as soon as each billionaire has their own private make-anything factory (a 'santa claus machine').
In the end, the only job of the lowest rung of society is to build things up to a level they are no longer needed. Then once machines are made, the rich can get rid of that rung, and not have to worry about rebellion from them.
Depressing, but... kinda how I see things going.

@@iainballas I've written about this exact thing before, and my argumemt centered on how this will eventually happen should AI end up replacing all artists. That should the "art" AI produces be liked more than the art people make, then the ultra rich and people who own factories and farms will have no reason in the world to keep anybody who doesn't also own a factory or farm around. And this will result in the logically genocide of the non-rich by the rich.

A machine armed with any of a variety of weapons, and defended beyond any practical means of destroying. Unintelligent, loyal, lethal machines. After all, he who controls the army controls the state. If each has their own factory with their own guard drones, that's game over. So the moment Bezos starts putting automated lethal-protection robots in his factories, we should get together for one last worker's riot. Cuz it won't be possible after that.

He fought for the Republic. For Democracy. He may not have truly understood those things, but he knew they were right. That people needed to get to decide what to do with their lives. And he, eventually, accepted that he only had two choices. To fight and die so others may relax and live... or to relax and live, while everyone around him suffers and dies.
Rex is a great example that, when in times of hardship... sometimes, it's easier to be dumb and witless. His less-awake brothers simply accepted reality, did their job, and endured without seeing upset. Many were grateful for the war, because otherwise they'd never have existed. But for people like Rex, who had their heads up out of the sand... they could SEE how bad it was. He grasped just how much poodoo was on his end of the stick, and he anguished over it. But in the end, he managed to help make a difference. And in the very end... he fought for the cause he truly believed in.

Instead of realizing the futility of war and the inhuman treatment of soldiers, many fans continue to glorify both. Hoping to emulate their new favorite characters, instead of learning from them.
All they had to do to fix this was give a few B1s a personality and story arc too, in order to make the "bad guys" more relatable as well. That's the only way to peace; through understanding, not conflict.

Can't say it any better. It's that way in real life as a soldier, too. They have sent us to do their bidding, they get us killed and injured (physically and mentally), and then forget about us. So when you hear someone say"thank you for your service" or call you "boots on the ground;" please know they are likely imperial fascists whether they realize it or not. And that is only my experience in the Cold War and Gulf War period from 1986 to 1994. I don't even want to think about all those soldiers dragged into the GWOT period of the last 20 plus years. I guess that explains why they have committed suicide at a rate that is three to four times higher than their death rate in service. It all sucks, but is true. The story of the clones is a cautionary tale fore sure.

Rex is truly a great character and one of my favorites. However, there are two points I disagree with you, Grand Master Geetsly, but as Rex has taught there is a difference between loyalty and blind obedience, so I can disagree but still be loyal to this great channel.
First, 20:05-20:11: I defiantly disagree with that, they weren't all pointless, they helped many people, and unlike Krell, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan actually cared about their troops and tried to save as much life as possible, and luckily they passed that kind of thinking down to many of their Clones like Rex, Fives, Cody, and so on, which allowed them to be kind and considerate to their men and innocent civilians, and also helped them see through all of Krell's nonsense.
Second, 30:05-30:07: I'd argue Rex, like many others, is still fighting for the Republic, even during the time of the Empire. Like he told Hunter in The Bad Batch when Hunter told him the Republic was gone, "Not all of it. We're still here. Others are out there too." Just because he disobeys an order doesn't mean he isn't still loyal. That's the lesson he taught us after. Because the Republic and Empire despite some similarities are still different and that's why many fought to bring the Republic back, like Rex said. I actually used that clip of Rex talking to Hunter in my own video I uploaded two weeks ago talking about the good of the Galactic Republic to show how it is different and despite its many flaws is still worth fighting for. And I owe you a thank you, Grand Master Geetsly, as part of me wanting to make that video was responding to you're views on the Republic being completely irredeemable and already an Empire even very early into the Clone Wars, since I didn't agree with those views and wanted to show the other side of the argument. It got a lot more views than I anticipated. I didn't think it would get so many and have a good few people already discussing things in the comments. So I have to thank you again Geetly for inspiring me. I may not always agree with you, but I'm still very loyal and thankful for you and you're content.

I believe that since Rex had seen so much and had so many trials like you mentioned before. When it finally came down to him executing order 66. His knowledge is what lead him to “warn” Ashoka and put her in the direction of finding out about the chips. Because Rex had seen what had happened with tup and then with fives. He knew these chips were there for a purpose. And when he felt the chip taking control he knew what was happening and thought immediately to fives and what he said. This is what caused him to say “find fives” He used his last ounce of self control to pick his side willingly.

I was 10 when the first episode of The Clone Wars aired. As soon as Yoda sat down by the lantern with Rys, Jek, and Thire, everything changed. I took Yoda's words to heart, and from that moment on, the clones quickly became one of the best parts of Star Wars for me. They all share the same face, but they're still individuals, and they are unique.
On another note, everyone remembers season 1 for Rookies, but who else remembers Innocents of Ryloth when Waxer and Boil bond with Numa? To this day, the end of that episode makes me emotional. That's because of how beautifully it showcased an essential part of the Clones we have the Clone Wars to thank for: their innate humanity and goodness.
Others may have grown into it, but I was on board with the Clones from day 1 of this magnificent show. I have spoken.

I’ve always thought that the show and movie were great. Tbh it’s now my favorite part of Star Wars. I loved the original animated movies from 03’ but once clone wars the show began it was so cool and enjoyable to watch Star Wars from that new perspective. Clone commanders having names and being humanized was so cool to me even as a kid. Now as an adult I have a ton of respect and love for the show and what it did.

Slick wasn’t putting the clones in more danger by sabotaging them and ensuring any operation they were undergoing failed? I get the argument that they were being forced to fight which is unjust, but to say actively ensuring they die isn’t worse is a crazy line of thought. By this logic Pong Krell wasn’t really doing anything worse than any other jedi by setting clones up to die.

    • @Appletank8

Imo Jesse is the most tragic clone trooper. He showed true loyalty to his brothers and what was right. He knew when orders were wrong and did what was best for his men which is why he became an arc trooper. So to have a clone who genuinely believes in doing the right thing die as a villain without knowing or being able to control his actions shows how worthless the clone troopers were to sidous and the rest of the galaxy

You mention how the series was the first time the Clones as a whole were given actual character, and I think that’s a huge part of what I like about it and why Rex quickly became one of my favorite Star Wars characters.
As a kid I always loved the clones designs and what little bits of them we got in stuff like Revenge of the Sith, the original 2D Clone Wars cartoon, or the comics, but my favorites were definitely the videos games Republic Commando and Battlefront II, each of which featured more distinct clone characters (albeit a faceless one in BFII’s case).
When the 2008 series started I was hoping they’d do a bit more with them, and the series delivered and then some. Hell I know the movie isn’t held in high regard, but as a kid I probably saw it more than anything in theaters. The way the Clones story went in that show was really powerful, especially with how it ended, and Rex really was a great representative of it.

Also, when Bad Batch is not focusing on all the Sid mission filler, I like how the show pretty much exemplifies everything you said- that the clones were nothing more than slaves to the Republic that were unappreciated. We have some exceptions like Chuchi, but for the most part, the clones were cast aside by the entire galaxy when they had served their purpose.

When I was 10 when Attack of the clones came out, I liked the idea of Clones being NPC soldiers and then the 2002-2003 clone wars came out and ARC Captain Fordo was my favorite and is my favorite clone trooper ever. Rex suffered for me to like at first because I didn’t like the story or the show since it felt childish. When they made the droids stupid and the clones dumb really pissed me off. I have a lot of military personal in my family and I want my droids and clones to feel like hardened, disciplined and act like military ranks would. Episode 2 had that with both sides since we didn’t spend a lot of time with the troops of either side. Rex became one of my favorite characters in Star Wars once we got to spend more time with him. Fordo and Rex have a lot in common. Echo moved into the list as well. Even though I’m not a fan of the 2008 clone wars series season 1 to 4 but 5 and on got better. Rex has all the characteristics of a good responsible respectable officer in his ranks. He earns respect. Rex as a person is a very honorable person and soldier.

The battle of Umbara was foolish simply because if it was over trade routes, they needed a massive navy in the system to keep trade lanes open, they didn't need to destroy half the populace to take the entire planet. Plus when you cut off their planet they'll give up eventually or you can at least dictate some terms. Palpatine didn't wanna fight them again later.

  • @HectorCotto97

To be fair Rex DID have a legitimate reason behind what he said to Slick. He not only sided with the enemy but he also sabotaged their equipment and vehicles which lead to his brothers becoming unarmed which only served to endanger his brothers even more which lead to EVEN MORE clones dying. I don't think Rex as in any way wrong for calling out his hypocrisy. It doesn't help that since the entire war was masterminded by Palpatine it ultimately means that even if Slick HAD escaped and joined up with the CIA that means he would have officially joined the people who were actively killing his brothers which idk about you but that sounds INCREDIBLY counter productive if he actually meant well.
It would have been one thing if he was just a deserter why tried to run away but ended up being caught and punished for it, then they could have moved on to the story about the clone that DID escape and they could have had Rex reflect and maybe even regret what happened with Slick. The reality though is that Slick despite what he may want to convince himself to believe, it doesn't change the fact that he actively chose to sabotage his brothers and made it easier for them to die all while claiming he was doing it for some greater good. His actions were the equivalent of forcing someone to drink a cup of water while they're drowning, you're only making things worse.

Plapatine had to replace the clones, by the time their inhibitor chips wore off, many clones like Rex finally realized they were pawns in a controlled war in order to create the empire. By being directly involved in the war they were able to realize what many citizens during the war were not able to see. Palpatine kept citizens far enough from the war not to see it's true nature, but made them negatively impacted by the war and fearful enough to support an empire thinking it was to save them from the horrors of the clone wars, and not the goal of the war to begin with. As we saw ES-01, one of the first citizen soldiers of the empire say in the bad batch, "With the Empire, I get paid, I get fed, and I have a roof over my head. That's more than the Republic ever did for me."
The counter being that if palpatine had used citizens to fight the separatists, they would have grown to love their jedi generals like the clones did, and the jedi who hated clones would be working alongisde actual people. Order 66 would not be anywhere near as effective if at all, and the galaxy as a whole would have learned the war was just for palpatine to seize power through their family members who fought in the war as soldiers.

Y’know, it’s not that it changed my perspective on Rex. What it did was highlight the tragedy of his hard-won and lose-lose choices juxtaposed against his brothers’ total lack of choice.
The one clone who - hell, the one *person* who wrestled true autonomy from the grasp of a plot that made puppets of nearly everyone with any part to play, and the choices he gets for that victory are few and miserable. Desert like Cut, or join an as-yet nonexistent ‘other side’ like Slick and see his brothers on the business end of his guns.
