      And yet not a single injury. My dog's feet are as tough as boots, and their hide as durable as work gloves. There's NO WAY to remove all of the hazards, so you must work with tough dogs, who are accustomed to tough work. Despite all the craziness, injuries are incredibly rare for my dogs. If I worked with soft hose pets, I'm sure the story would be different. I, on the other hand, am not as tough, and get hurt pretty seriously sometimes (foreshadowing)

      @Hot Metal Knives HMK It doesn't matter, really, what animal it is. I used to go out in the streets in Arizona in the summer without shoes, and you build calluses quickly, which you can also easily remove, because they're just dead skin. For dogs, they have shoes to walk them in such heat, but even people can get used to it.

    A huge part of this rat infestation is the dirty mess the owners have. They are paying you not only to wipe out those rats but to clean up their junk they’ve been stacking that they probably thought they were gonna use later on in the future. Sure enough the rats put it to good use.

    • @chuckkimber2773
      @chuckkimber2773 Před rokem +26

      The food availability on an active working farm is the real issue. Only so much you can do about that. They were ground nesting everywhere - under the silos cement slabs, directly in the dirt, everywhere. The old farm junk is definitely good habitat for them, but even without it they would have all been there.

    • @metarugia3981
      @metarugia3981 Před rokem +5

      Like Chuck Kimber said, the rats only gravitate to areas where there is plenty of food for them and any junk lying around is a perfect place for them to roost and breed after they feed.

      Nope. There are videos of these English farmers in the field just turning the dirt and they nest about a foot to a foot and a half under the surface. • @puffanimates
    @puffanimates Před rokem +303

    For those wondering about if the dog will be okay from the rat bite, in previous videos he's explained that not only do the dogs get their "daily" (Edit 3: Since some of yall are dumb and take things literally and don't read the whole comment, this means that they get their vaccines at the proper scheduled times and dont get delayed like owners with domestic dogs, I did not literally mean daily everyday vaccines smh)
    vaccines and antibiotics but the rats where he's located rarely if never carry diseases most other rats like city rats do, so while it might be a slight bit sore it's not going to harm the dog permanently! Honestly your cats bite is more likely to carry a disease than the rats he hunts-
    Edit: Yay I got a comment from Joseph! Yes your cat is more dangerous than any rat-
    Also when I meant daily I meant they got their shots on time and were kept up to date, so no not one shot a day lmao for those who misunderstood that-
    Edit 2: For those wondering about the environmental debree such as wood, nails, metal etc, there's a pinned comment that explains why the dogs are still safe despite the nails and wood, along with why complete and total safety is impossible, reminders that dogs can be made to work hard everyday, like police takedown dogs, search and rescue dogs, explosive detection dogs etc, when dogs are made to be put to work, total and complete safety like for a household dog is not possible, yes you can try to make it as safe as possible but if they're not a house dog it's highly likely they'll be hurt at least at one point or another, but again the pinned comment explains why they're still as safe as possible.
    Thank you

    • @JosephCartertheMinkMan
      @JosephCartertheMinkMan  Před rokem +119

      Actually cat bites are more dangerous than rats pretty much ANYWARE. Cat's have HORRIBLE infestations of some very noxious microbes growing in their mouths! One little bite or scratch from a cat has a very real chance of landing you sick in bed for anywhere from a few days to a few months! Not to mention the very real rabies risk that cats have and rodents like rats do not have. Rats, mice, squirrels, and other similarly sized rodents have virtually no realistic risk of giving you rabies. The MUCH larger rodents like beavers and ground hogs there is some risk, but with smaller to medium sized rodents there's almost no rabies risk at all.

    • @MichelleRauKlimas739501
      @MichelleRauKlimas739501 Před rokem +10

    Also, when he stuck his hand in that tire and said 'This is how you get bit!' I couldn't help but laugh and say out loud 'No sh*t!" I worked with rats for years, breeding and taming them as pets, as well as breeding feeders, and I would never dare to stick my bare hand in a cage with a bunch of rats while not being able to see anything. I love Boss. He is such a specimen. So smart and strong and fast and he knows his job. I loved watching him catch a rat then when 2 other dogs started playing tug of war with it he dropped it to find more rats to kill. Seeing him be so focused on killing rats that he leaves them barely dead on the ground to get the next one is a thing of beauty. What a machine.

    I had a 12 x 24 foot shed on some land I bought 30 years ago
    It was full of junk and old tires
    It also might had been the #1 rat nest site
    There was a different attitude back then about burning tires and old buildings
    So after a rain , we had a evening with no wind
    Not sure how many rats got burned
    But we used shotguns on any that ran
    Over 200 shotgun shells were used
    Many times we would get 2 - 4 rats with 1 shot
    Oh we also missed a few times LOL

    This is one of the first videos by you I’ve seen! Are these dogs only trained to catch rats and not reactive to other small fuzzy things? This is incredibly fascinating, I’ve been doing dog behavior for a few years now and the training must’ve been really hard. I appreciate that this is a quick way of extermination, as opposed to poison or other methods, and that you (presumably) save ones you catch alive.
