Seeing the 50 BMG Rat Shot really puts into perspective how horrifying Grape Shot or musket balls out of a cannon would have been.
Grapeshot pretty much vaporized anyone hit in the upper torso, even back in the day grapeshot must have been going at insane speeds
The vast majority of that damage was from the pressure-wave and expanding gasses, not energy transfer from the pellets. With the muzzle-brake taken off a 50 BMG like that, you could fire a blank round at that same distances and get almost identical results.
Now we just need a .50 B.M.G. pistol...
@@Vorpal_Wit i also thought about it, i want to see a blank that outputs similar air pressure in the front and see how it fares without the entry wounds created by the bullet itself. I always feel like the air would need some kind of entry into the body to expand it like that.
@@x31mx31mNot at pressure. people have had high pressure air enter their body and they inflate like a balloon and that's a fraction of the pressure of .50

You gotta give Scott respect. His brand loyalty to Serbu is unmatched. Almost died from one blowing up, but understands it wasn't the design that failed. Good man
Look the devil right in the eye and smile.
I bet he has some hesitation using that same rifle in general though.
If he really thought that he would shoot the rifle himself. I understand if he doesn’t want to shoot it again but he is kinda doing harm to the reputation of serbu by going about it this way.
@@blakebenoit9068 He has shot it many times with normal ammo after the incident, on video. HOWEVER now he uses a lead sled with all experimental or strange ammo types because a lot of them are hand made & can cause a 2nd incident. He's not damaging Serbu's rep in any way, you've just not seen the videos where he shoots it.
@@blakebenoit9068 I don't know much about firearms but i know if there is debris flying around you don't want to stand anywhere near, did you see how many small parts of that zombie torso went flying, i am sure he could've gotten hurt from those bone fragments. Why risk it? I think it is reasonable to recognise and expect some shrapnel based on how powerful the round is and how close was the gun to the target. I aactually think, that not getting near the flying shrapnel was the correct decision.

You gotcha self a new subscriber. Your vids are freaking awesome 👍😎
I've used that .22lr rat shot quite a bit for rodent control and it tends to drop most small critters in there tracks as it only takes one tiny pellet to make it a head shot. One of the more interesting side effects of rat shot is it will leave an outline of shot of the critter that it was used on. It made a perfect outline of a fat rat in an old cabin we would visit tail and all. I came back years later and someone had connected the dots and so fatso the rat has been immortalized with some cowboy art at coyote cabin. 🤠👍😁
That's too cool
🤣😂🤣😂
I like this
Had a buddy use .22 ratshot on the rats in his barn. It took multiple shots but I guess Canadian rodents are just built different.
That's awesome! 🤠
I think even the smallest one at the beginning is quite terrifying, actually. Just imagine how difficult it will be to get all those tiny lead pellets out from beneath your skin. It did look like they went in 1-2 inches, and having some of them slightly dug into your sternum sounds extremely painful.
To be fair, you're made from skin and muscle, not jell-o. And usually some clothes on top of that. But I wouldn't want to be shot with any of these either.
You’d just leave them in and disinfect.

That was the craziest thing I have seen yet. Wow. Great video
Damn, that rat shot at close range seems to be more destructive than firing standard ammunition with the 50 BMG. That was insane.
Standard mostly goes right through the target, being an anti tank caliber, but the torso absorbs ALL of that 50s energy with ratshot
He took the brake off. IMO a large part of the damage was due to sheer muzzle blast. He could have fired a blank and gotten similar results.
Hey Scott, prove me wrong! Let's see what 50 BMG blanks can do to zombie torsos, cinder blocks and eggplant!
Massive bleeding . Ask a doctor what it would be like trying to extract those sneeze pellets out of that tenderized meat.
@@mikewallace8087 You'd have to find the tenderized meat first, and at that point it's not bleeding... it's just leaking.
@@markfergerson2145 yeah it was mostly from the muzzle blast

Awesome videos ya do. You make my day every time. Have you done anything with some of these break barrel pellet rifles that they have out these days. Like to see what kind of damage it'll do at 50yd and out to a 100yd to a ballistic dummy. Thanks.
The 22LR & 22MAG shotshells are more commonly referred to as snake shot. We use them out West for rattlesnakes in the the rocks. Less ricochet risk when they hit a rock.
Yep I have used them as well on timber rattlers and copperhead s back in the day. As well as a 410 shotgun with number 4 or 6 bird shot and they are very effective on snakes that ventured to close to house and the kids play area. They took out the snake but did not damage the plastic slide it was sunning on. But they definitely did not ricochet when fired at snakes on the rocks up on the hillside out back. But they are definitely effective on snakes and rodents as the name implies. Lol

I have used the 45acp and 40s&w rat shot quite a bit on some BIG rats and had very impressive results inside of 20 feet or so. Dude that was awesome and terrifying. Like punching a jello cake lol
As a Navy Corpsman that has been to Afghanistan twice and seeing different wounds those pellets would be a nightmare to try to get out amd clean all of the wounds and make sure there wasnt an infection days weeks later.
Christ I can only imagine how difficult it is to fix up somebody who’s been shot up with normal rounds, let alone tiny pellets.
Would you even need to get them out? Thought it’s SOP to leave bullets in as long as they aren’t too disruptive or doing something nasty like going through an artery. Seems like that would be the case with not to deep penetrating tiny little birdshot pellets.
Not to mention all the garment fibers dragged along with the pellet. Ugh.
No bullets are surgically removed stuff like shrapnel and pellets that can be pulled out with tweezers and forceps or need to be surgically removed or removed to prevent infection. Not on the battlespace but once you get back to Battalion aid station or if their CASAVACed they would go to a shock trauma platoon/field hospital for secondary and tertiary treatment to be stabilized treated for infections etc then either remain there until they can go back to their unit or go to a full hospital like in Longstool Germany and eventually get transported back to the US.

Nahh the shockwave isnt going to make your body explode like that, if it did someone wouldve invented a shockeave shotgun or something already
A shockwave propagating inside a hole made by a projectile first absolutely can have a dramatic effect.
Its molded ballistic gel, the shockwave 100% would tear it apart when the ratshot makes an opening
