    I'm always impressed some more by Leroy with each video. He's improving so fast. I mean that now, he even emulates Boss more and more by crunching on a rat once to finish it off quick and go onto the next because the critters are flooding them right and left. Leia and Gypsy and killing machines but they still tend to be obsessive over their catch and dead rats.

      @@bluecollaroutlaws6281 Just the first day ratting on the farm, Leroy didn't know the ratting "etiquette" within a team and you could see how possessive he was of each rat he caught. That's the behavior I still see from Leia and Gypsy. Yet even in the second video, Leroy was learning fast where to position himself and letting go less reluctantly of the rats he killed at the command of a human. He was still a tad possessive of his kills for a few more videos. Now, he crunches then drops them, even without a human giving him the order, to go onto the next rat. That's the behavior we are used to, from Boss. Kill crunch, drop, next target, kill crunch, drop, etc.

    I love how (lately?) you’ve always got to watch and make sure Boss doesn’t up and swallow one of his catches. You can almost hear that greyhound brain thinking, “What? I caught it, I just wanted a snack while I’m workin’.”
    I’m guessing he’s not allowed to eat them because 1) it would be a very bad habit once it got started and probably influence the other dogs too
    2) takes away focus from the job at hand
    3) potential illness for Boss. Am I correct that illness is a lesser concern than the formation of bad habits? Is there a risk of Boss getting sick from a farm rat?

    • @maggie2383
      @maggie2383 Před rokem +22

      Him eating while working is a HUGE risk to his life. If he eats or has a full belly while running around and doing what he does on a job it could lead him to develop "bloat," or gastric dilatation-volvulus. It is when his stomach and intestines twist and it can only be fixed by immediate surgery. In a lot of the places we work we are a few to a couple hours away from hospitals and veterinarians. It is incredibly dangerous because we might not make it in time to correct it. Which is why we do not like them eating the rats!

    • @high-bi-password
      @high-bi-password Před rokem +8

      It taking their focus away from the job at hand is probably the worst part. That would then spread to the other dogs.
      Also, it takes away from the body count at the end of the day.

    • @high-bi-password
      @high-bi-password Před rokem +2

      @@The_Forge_Master thanks but Maggie, Joe’s wife, already explained that the primary concern is that Boss eating, while also exercising vigorously as he does on the job, could get a twisted stomach, i.e. bloat. Bloat is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate and expensive surgery to correct. The farms where the dogs work aren’t exactly across the street from an animal hospital with the capabilities to handle that type of procedure, so it’s largely to prevent that from happening.
      Please do more research before you comment on subjects where you have little to no expertise. In reality this is a matter of life or death.

    I see 3 questions come up all the time and if anyone sees this and is curious these are some of the answers.
    Question 1, do the dogs ever get hurt running around that junk with nails sticking out the pieces of wood? It's possible but unlikely, these dogs are used to working these types of areas so they are less likely to get hurt furthermore they are working dogs they are a bit tougher than yr regular dog. I also like to think Joe would check over his animals and do what's needed for them he seems to care alot about them and spends alot of time training them.
    Question 2, why not get one of the farms machinery to move all the junk? He wants the junk to be moved slowly piece by piece so the dogs have time to cat the rats. If he moves to much at a time there will be more rats than dogs and they will be more likely to get away
    Question 3, why is there so much junk in the first place? Farms don't have regular garbage collection like residential areas so they collect it in 1 place and when it becomes alot they will pay someone to transport it to somewhere to be discarded. It is expensive to get a truck to come out and take the stuff so they will wait till it's enough that it's worth the trip. Also in this video it appears to be also have derelict building so they probably also need to get that removed instead of slowly Falling apart. Farms generate alot of rubbish and they can't afford to just throw away everytime they get rubbish so it has to be like this.
    These answers are from reading his replies to other people's comments, things he has said in past videos and a little but of my understanding

    Little Gypsy is so ferocious and is like a spoiled child wanting to interfere with the other dogs and trying to take their catch from them it so funny to see and then to hear Joe scolding her but she is soon back to her old self she is totally focused on the job and is a pocket killing machine ❤
