  • **This is Part 3 (and Conclusion) of our Family Road Trip in a Tesla Model Y**
    Can you take a Tesla Model Y on a road trip like a regular car? No complex planning, just pick the destinations and go. Using "A Better Route Planner" as the only tool, our family embarked on a 10-day road trip, traveled across eight states and covered more than 2,300 miles to prove this is indeed possible. We picked all the attractions, destinations and hotels without considering proximity to a Tesla or EV charger. Please join us on this trip, visit all the attractions we went to and witness first hand what's it like to road trip in a Tesla Model Y. The trip wasn't problem free, but it's much easier than we thought.
    For anyone new to the Tesla world, here are a few things you'll need to know:
    1. SoC = State of Charge = Battery Level.
    2. ABRP = A Better Route Planner. This is a very popular 3rd party Tesla/EV route planner where you can enter waypoints when Tesla's navigation can't.
    3. Charging Speed will decrease as your the SoC becomes higher. Sometimes it's faster make two stops charging to a lower SoC than a single stop to a higher SoC.
    4. Most of our stops were based on what ABRP and/or Tesla navigation suggested.
    5. We drove "normally" with highway speeds between 70 and 80 MPH. Feel free to ask any questions and I will either answer them in the comments or at the end of Part 3.

      My wife and I watched this series and were convinced to order a MYP because of you guys! Thank you :)
      How was the ride quality during your trip? I hear that it can get quite rough with the performance suspension over patched roads but wanted to get your opinion.

      @@caj3 thanks and you are gonna love the car. If you are used to driving a sports car you will find the ride to be gentler. If you are used to driving a sedan then the ride is firmer in comparison. Just be careful with potholes.

    Is your white car seat easy to get dirty especially for the jeans?

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před 2 lety

      I did a ceramic coating for the seat and the blue Jean dye is pretty easy to wipe up with baby wipes. As long as you apply the coating once a year it’s pretty easy to maintain. I have a dog, wife and a messy child and the white interior has held up great.

    Should I lease or buy a model y? Appreciate your help!

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před 2 lety +2

      Tesla’s lease on Model 3 & Y are close ended without an option to buy the car at the end. The lease also calculates a residual value around 60% (iirc). However, Model Y has a strong resale value around 80% so IMHO, buying the better financially. With that said, there’s the convenience of a least where after 36 month you don’t have to worry about advertising and resell it yourself. I recall there’s a very good YT video on this.

      Definitely finance, especially if you can find a credit union that offers a sub 2% interest rate.

    How are the 21’ inch tires and wheels holding up?

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před 2 lety +2

      Car is about to hit 20K miles and the tires held up great with plenty tread life left. Only had 1 puncture from hitting a pothole back in March.

      @@SlowAsianDriver only one! Were you able to patch it? They are delivering a MYP to me this Friday. Any good tips for inspection?

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před 2 lety +1

      No, the f-ing pothole ripped the sidewall and had to get a new tire. I would watch a few videos by others (Bearded Tesla Guy has a decent one) on things to look for on delivery. Most of the problems in those videos are no longer issues with current cars. Congrats on your MYP!

      @@SlowAsianDriver Too bad about the tire. Good thing it was only 1 and your rim didn’t get bent. I watch electric man’s CZcams channel. He does daily inspections on model 3 and y’s. The latest faults are the hatch having inconsistent gaps on the driver side. Weird thing is that the cars he’s reviewing have older build datesZ. He’s in Canada, so maybe it’s an import issue.
      I have a check list from a model 3 to use as a template.

      @adamlee5504 Před 2 lety

      My MYP was delivered! It had some minor alignment issue and some kind of left over trim in the head liner. NO squeaks or rattles. Overall, a great car. I need to get a ubc-c cable to test these ports.
