The New Cirrus SR22 G6! Is It Worth The Expense?

  • I'm often ask if I use the airplane for work and whether it's worth the expense. In this video, please join me on a day trip from Farmingdale, NY (KFRG) to Boston, MA (KBED). Typically it's about a 4-hour drive each way without traffic. I usually leave my house around 6AM for a 10:30 meeting and will not get home until 7:30-8PM. Let's see how long it takes in a Cirrus SR22 GTS - G6 and whether flying is worth the expense.
    I also included 90% of the ATC communications on this IFR Flight for all the viewers that asked for them.
    I love reading all the questions and comments. Please keep them coming!

    Great video showing the advantages general aviation has to offer. Beautiful aircraft as well. I have loved the Cirrus since it first came out. An old Coast Guard brother of mine has had a G3 for the past 2 years now and absolutely loves it. At this current stage in my life owning one is out of reach for me but I can always dream. Until then I'll have to settle for enjoying videos like yours. Well done.

    I tried this type of endeavor thirty years ago. If you get in a car at your home and drive directly to your client a hundred to two hundred miles away you will beat the plane every time. Reality says you get in your car, drive to the airport, park , take the plane out of the hanger, fuel it, preflight it and guaranteed you have already blown well over an hour - an hour and a half. Then you get your thrill because air time is very short. Now get in the pattern , land , park, walk to a terminal, rent a car and drive to your client. No way no day is a plane faster. I have experienced it first hand and piloted since 88. The plane shines on longer runs but never on a few hundred miles.

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před 2 lety +3

      I don’t know how you can make an absolute statement when several factors are an unknown to you. I live 10 minutes away from the airport. My FBO pulls the plane from the hangar, fuels it and staged it on the ramp. Once I land, a car is already waiting on the ramp and the drive to client’s office is 15 minutes. Google map driving direction without traffic is 4 hr and 7 minute and a simple search on FlightAware will show you my flight takes 45-60 minutes. Time stamps in the video can be matched to FlightAware.
      But hey, you are entitled to your opinion and your first hand experience is just that: yours.

    • @michaelangelo7511
      @michaelangelo7511 Před 2 lety +2

      @@SlowAsianDriver I concede. Everyone has a different situation. My airport was a 45 min drive. I neither was offered or probably could not afford the services you are purchasing from your FBO . You are correct . My circumstances were quite different. 👍🏻

    • @Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co
      @Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@michaelangelo7511These calculations vary so much. I know someone who lives a ten minute _walk_ from her home airport, while her work studio is literally across the street from her usual destination airport. She can make it from doorway to doorway in less than two hours; driving would take two and a half at the very least, three and a half to four typically - and that's on the busiest and most stress-inducing highway in North America. Flying is faster and safer, but in this case it's also far less stressful.

    How often do you experience turbulence? One thing I haven’t seen really too much in the videos is any bumpiness. Maybe that’s the camera taking it out but I do know one of the things while I was starting my flying was I felt like I was bouncing around a lot which got my stomach a little crazy.. I want to get back into it and maybe I’ll fly more in the winter when the air isn’t so crazy but I figured I’d ask.

    • @SlowAsianDriver
      @SlowAsianDriver  Před rokem

      I do often experience turbulence and it ain’t fun at times. Camera will mask some bumps but the plane absorbs turbulence really well. Cirrus has a very high wing load factor compare to say a C172.

    Beautiful video, I honestly envy you, in a good way😅👍
    However, If I may, please refer to "level" as "flight level". If you're flying 5000' or 11000' with a given QNH, you are flying an altitude.
    Level 5000 means you are at 500.000 feet 😅
    Cheers and happy flights.

      @@SlowAsianDriver I understand, but you might confuse the controller. Don't get me wrong, you guys are the model of aviation we (rest of the world) all want, but the ICAO standard phraseology book still a mistery to many FAA pilots 😅🙈
      If you are not climbing or descending, you are "Maintaining altitude". There is no "level" in the ICAO standard phraseology, only Flight Level.
      Numbers aslo, every digit you should readback. Altitude one one thousand (11000) and so on...

      @@SlowAsianDriver Forgive me, I just get picky on this, because thousands of professionals aviators around the world (like myself), must pass the "English Proficiency test" every 3-6 years to renew our Icao level 4 or 5.
      On the other hand, most Americans get level 6 (no expire date) for being native english speakers and somehow demonstrate very low standards in radio communication, where in fact, they should teach everyone else how to do it 😅👍
