Hey Ern. As someone on the line building Cirrus planes, I love seeing people appreciate the product! Love your videos, thanks!
Hey Hans! Really appreciate the love you guys put into these planes. Just know that me and my family are grateful for your care in building our “Green Hornet”. Cheers!
@FlyingwithBigErn I put a lot of pride into my work and I genuinely love seeing them take off knowing I helped in my own little way.
I'm National Guard and an inspiring airline pilot - you're a huge inspiration to me. I appreciate all the work you put into your videos.
Excellent video guys. It is great to see you both on the same page on everything especially maintenance which is key in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
Thank you both for this very informative video. This is the stuff I’ve been waiting to see. True cost of ownership.
When watching "owner review" videos like this, I filter through the lens of "Role of Pilot-in-Command".
Your perspectives are great (primarily focusing on knowns and safety) and you're both really keeping a tight rein on what you can control.
Continued success, and thanks for promoting GA well.
Appreciate the feedback Paul! Cheers!
Always looking for the next airplane. So true! After flying GA for 37 years I’m in my airplane Nr. 15. Cirrus is a great product, the market doesn’t lie. As a European I would opt for a Diamond DA-62 in this class, if I could spend this amount of money 💰 😉
@@hardyad2102 Good points! On the other hand you have to plan on a top overhaul of the Continental in between the TBO. Airway charges in Europe are about 60€ for a DA-62 per flight hour. Is this a problem for someone who spent well north of 1 Mio. € for a DA-62? I’m not shure…
And the safety-record of the DA-62 is outstanding.
Nice to hear and listening to two professional people
I appreciate the insight. I just discovered Cirrus today. I am in the middle of my private license (also a physician!), and I am absolutely addicted to Cirrus now. Very useful feedback. These are magnificent feats of engineering.
..as a long-time subscriber..many thanks again for sharing your thoughts about the Cirrus..
Thanks, guys. This was a very enjoyable video to watch.
Wow, looks like a high production value shot! Great video!
So nice to watch two very intellectual individuals give a thorough review. You guys need to move into review of all of the current GA aircraft.I’m sure that all of the manufacturers will accommodate. Very much enjoyed.
Nice video. Great practical information, good depth, and just pleasant to see what a couple of friends can do with their common interest in aviation.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Great value!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love that plane! Enjoy guys!
Great vlog. Thanks guys.
Another great video and good to meet the doctor!
Thank you! Sam is awesome, cheers!
thanks Chuck very nice to hear that hope to be in more videos
Thank you for sharing such a great video! Been looking for a video like this with an in-depth coat break down as I am still in the middle weather I should purchase a cirrus or just rent it out from a local flight school. Thanks again and all the best!
I would say rent first see how you like it before buying. Rent the generation you plan on purchasing.
geat insightful review, many thanks .
Thanks for the video!
Great video thank you. Safe travels
BigEm, thx for the video. That is the route I was looking if I want to get my PPL via the Cirrus SRT22
Nice ownership presentation. Love to fly… and it shows. Impressive. Great video! Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Thanks for watching!
@@FlyingwithBigErn 😊✅
Great video. Thank you both. 👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Working on my commercial right now and would love to get into a cirrus. Such a cool airplane.
Hi Ernie. Just found your channel as I’ve been thinking about getting into flying Cirrus aircraft. Thanks to you and Sam for being honest about what you spend your money on. I live in the northeast and I’m seeing more of these when I fly into different airports now. P.S. I’m an F1 fan also, either Red or Alpine blue… Enjoy your videos…
Thank you for this insightful video.
As a 1-year G3 owner, agree with great Cirrus support for organized training, certified maintenance, and COPA membership as a step above anything I have experienced before in my 30- year GA time. Love this airplane as my missions are FL to IL and WI locations. Thanks for your information. Biggest selling point for me is CAPS, fixed gear, A/C and glass panel with envelope protection of Avidyne DFC90. Had Mooney M20E and C-182...the Cirrus is a 21st century hybrid of both planes that doesn’t corrode in FL environment. Love the plane!
How does the IL/WI to FL go for you, on average? Do you often have to work around weather, or cancel/reschedule? Winter/summer differences? We'd be flying from the DC area to FL (Sarasota), so any thoughts on your experience would be appreciated. Thanks.
Great story!!! Thanks for sharing! Would love it if you showed quick pics of what you used to fly when you talk about it. I almost immediately pause and google the planes out of curiosity
we used to fly a last Gen red and silver very pretty plane g6 has some subtle improvements
Great video. Enjoyed it.
Awesome, thank you!
Very interesting, thanks guys.
Love this video!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great information, nice to see that both of your are in love with the plane, for training and enjoying it with your family…success in your new endeavors…you have to do a collaboration with Niko’s
Excellent stuff bro
Great video.
Been waiting for another Green Hornet video.
From a fellow Cirrus owner, good job on the video. Glad to see you have gotten rid of all the commercials from your early videos, much more enjoyable to watch. Missing: How many hours did you both fly last year to relate the maintenance costs per hour? #flysafe!
So you think he actually placed those commercials in his videos?🤦🏻♂️
My airplane partner and I made the same decision to get the G6…with the CMX and warranty it’s a no brainer. Good stuff pal! 👍
It's a great airplane! We are very lucky to have it, cheers!
Greetings form Grand Forks. Thanks for the shout out!!
Great video guys! I'm interested in purchasing a new Cirrus SR22 in the near term and in a few years hopefully moving up to a VisionJet, and the insight you shared was very helpful! Would be interested in hearing more about the company plans you mentioned as well.
Good choice! Stay tuned...
Great video!
BigErn! I finally got to fly in AZ. such a beautiful place. we took off from Falcon Field.
Very cool!
Love seeing your bird at Elite!
Great video BigEm. Very cool to know you were an Air Force pilot! SWA should of made you a Capt when they hired you with that insane background : )
Such good friends. Nice to see in today's society.
First!!!! Thanks for the kind words on video ern I’m getting better! Your the best!!!!
Wonderful video!!!! Wondered if you ever had any emergencies in the Green Hornet? Thank You for taking the time to do all these videos for us!!!! Blue Skies!!!
Thankfully the Green Hornet has been great. No emergencies yet👍🏽
Very nice summary of your experience with the aircraft.
It would have been nice to know what your thoughts were with regards things you didn't quite like with the aircraft (or 'opportunities for improvement'), based on your experiences.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Benakay! Honestly for what it is it’s perfect. Maybe the price tag not so perfect😁. I would have loved it to be pressurized. That would put it on another level👍🏽
Just stumbled upon this video searching for SR22 content. This was a great watch! I'm expecting a new video around the time the warranty ends announcing purchase of a Cirrus Vision Jet!
Love the green. Beautiful.
Thank you!
Hey guys, t's really cool to see your experience with a brand new, highly capable airplane. By contrast, although I'm an airline guy like you, my "jet" is a 1942 biplane. Like the Cirrus, mine is equipped with a chute, but on the Stearman, the chute is strapped to my behind! I do take some pride in owning a Boeing, just like my ride at work. Except mine has no roof and can safely fly acro.
I wish you fellas a lot of continued success with your ownership experience. If you find yourself with a PDX layover (Or a business trip for the Doc) during the warmer part of the year, I've got a helmet and parachute with your names on it - drop me line.
Merry Christmas to both of you
Same to you!
REALLY enjoyed this. Great to hear your thoughts. You said you chose not to get the extended warranty because you didn’t expect to keep the plane beyond three years. So, what are you thinking you will do then? Is that where you’re thinking of stepping up to a larger, pressurized plane?
Love it!!!!! From Day one
great review
Thanks!
That's a very nice colour scheme on your SR 22T
good info guys
Appreciate the time you took explaining your experience! I fly a Columbia 400 and stepping up to a 2016 TTx. It would be wonderful for someone to have a controlled cost maintenance program. I am in! You have it in vehicles now it’s time for aviation. Let me know if I can help.
Curious why you wanna get into a TTx if you’re in a 400. What year is your 400? I fly a 2008 400 and a TTx offers hardly any advantage.
I guess it all comes down to how many hours per year you fly the plane! Or, if you have deep pockets it really does not matter. Great video Ern and I would keep it !🛩
This was a welcomed spin on your videos where you brought the doctor into the conversation. It was thoughtful and informative because sometimes partnerships can turn toxic but you both seems to get along well and are upfront and honest with each other along with just being friends and bringing two different life aspects to this endeavor. Keep doing your thing and your connection which benefits us viewers. I’m still trying to figure out what A.M.E stands for 😂 What if any are the tax advantages to having this aircraft and using it especially for business reasons or write offs for depreciation, maintenance etc?
AME = Aviation Medical Examiner .... he does medical checkups/physicals for pilots...
@@rolandscottjr3633 thanks.. once I listened to him again that made sense. Nothing like having multiple streams of income.
Yes, I wanted to know how the hours were split up. The Doc needed to do his training, and both have flights for business, but beyond that, was it first come first serve, or were you trading months or were you reserving 1st and 3rd weeks of the month vs 2nd and 4th weeks of the month, for personal use of the plane? Was it the one with fewer hours got the choice of the next personal flight first?
Thinking about buying a SR22T G6 and yes, a Diamond DA 62. Your cost after a year fits into what I thought it would be. I would have to stretch for the DA 62 financially but the 5th seat, the ability to fly longer range than the Cirrus, the large windows my family just loved during a DA 62 demonstration flight, the extra seat comfort , and the economics of jet fuel, makes us want to buy the DA62 but ….financially, for me, is bothering me. Yes, I am lucky to be in a dilemma between two great aircraft: SR22T G6 or the Diamond DA62, wow am I grateful and lucky! Thanks for your timely input.
Both are excellent planes! I like the option of biting Jet fuel as well. Cheers!
Great video! I fly a G6 as well and agree with everything you guys mentioned. The only thing I would add would be the chute cost to maintenance. ~$1600/year even though it's not an annual "out of pocket" cost.
Thanks for sharing!
Craaazzzzzzyyyyyy cost....not counting the ten or 5 yr thing on it...
G6 platinum, had a nose wheel bearing lock preventing the wheel from free castering, resulting in a dual brake overtemp trying to get it stopped before going off the side of the taxiway. Apparently it’s a common issue currently being investigated by the FAA
is that right? will have to look into that
If I were still flying, Cirrus would be at the top of my list for sure. Got my Private back in 1972, but in 1975 after completing my Commercial training (but before check ride) a Navy Doctor misdiagnosed me and ended my ability to hold a 2nd Class medical. The FAA wasn't at all interested in my ability to prove the misdiagnosis. It's haunted me ever since, but my love for GA hasn't gone away. Living in AZ, I hang out at KCGZ sometimes just to do a little plane spotting and sometimes chatting with pilots about their planes. Great video BTW loved the breakdown on costs.
Hi Tim. I can't imagine what it felt like to get the carpet yanked out from under your feet like that!! I grew up in CG. The most fun job I ever had was on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, I manned the unicom. That was back in '89-'90 during my senior year at UA, and the trailer was all we had as an office. Do they still have the EAA and Antiquer fly-in shows? Man I got to climb around on some cool planes during those shows! I don't get down there much anymore, but know it has changed significantly. Nothing but great memories out there for me. Give CGZ my best regards next time you are out there!
Great video
The cost question is interesting, you mention the CMX package. Curious what the offset was on the package. In other words, how much was the CMX package versus how much would have been out of pocket without the package. That to me is the "cost of ownership." If you paid $25,000 (arbitrary number) on the front end for the coverage, that should be factored into that conversation here.
This is a great channel! Excellent videos and as I am about to take delivery of a s 22T Xi Cirrus in 2 weeks they are also very relevant! Great to see a 121 pilot fly GA and maintain same discipline with checklists, work flow etc as he would I'm sure in the 738. Next time you all fly to Vegas come visit at KVGT!
BTW: What is the brand of the O2 boom you're using?
Congratulations! It was a great experience picking up our bird👍🏽 I’d love to see it one day👌🏽
It’s the precision flight boom and O2 conserver. I’d highly recommend! Cheers!
I’m currently training in a Cirrus. Blown away by these beautiful Ferrari planes. I don’t think my money situation will ever lend towards a new million dollar turbo 😱 but, perhaps a team ownership of an older model. Your plane is beautiful. Well done. 👍
Great video, I'm closer on which plane I want to buy. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Im going to the University of North Dakota next year and would love to hear from maybe a video with your daughter, how her time there has been, and how things operate in Grand Forks
That’s a great idea Ryan! I’ll work on that video👍🏽
Great traps man
Used to work at the plant there at Majors Field.
The market on your aircraft is continue to be higher than before
Hey Ern! Currently attending the Southwest Career Connections webinar with Adam Scott and Kim Berry and they mentioned you early on in the presentation. Thought that was pretty cool!
Great people! Very honored they mentioned me👍🏽
@@FlyingwithBigErn yes sir they are! Can’t wait to join SWA in the future. I just started my training for CFI
wish you guys would put it back in the line up with Elite...I have been flying fixed and rotory for 18 years and had the joy of flying 51FM a few times....
I acquired my PPL in 1981 and rented for 20 years, starting with 172s and 182s and then into Mooney 231s. When I was finally able to buy an airplane, I wanted 6 seats and some decent cargo capacity. I purchased a 1981 Piper Saratoga and it served me and my family well for 20 years. A (former) business partner had a Cirrus and it’s clear that Cirrus makes an excellent product but it’s not my cup of tea. When I was able to move up in 2020, the Vision Jet was out but, again, it didn’t fit my missions (mostly range and useful load, flush potty for my wife). I wound up in a 1980 Cessna Conquest II. When (if) I’m able to move up, it will be something like a Phenom 300E or Pilatus PC24. Range is kind of the ultimate deciding factor for me. I do know that Cirrus pilots love their airplanes and I’m happy for them and for the two of you. I don’t think Cirrus will make an airplane that will fit my needs and wants.
Hey Rob! I’d love a Phenom 300! My dream plane👍🏽. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Informative video Ern! I enjoyed hearing Sam's take on co-owning The Green Hornet.
It will be sad when the time comes to bid farewell to TGH. On the upside, whoever purchases TGH will get a well-maintained airplane!
That will be a sad day indeed. Love the plane, she’s been so good to us👍🏽 Cheers!
@@FlyingwithBigErn I was wondering why would you sell? I don't think you'd quit flying. And wouldn't you miss it compared to whatever you get next? So really, why would you sell? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing guys! How many hours did you fly total in year 1?
Hey Ern, been totally enjoying the Cirrus journey.. keep them up really good info in all regards. Awaiting my 2005 22NA G2 soon…will be having major updates etc…so prayerfully lot less issues..but certainly get you guys point.
One crazy question been wanting to ask…please let me know where can grab one of those Apple Watch bands you have.. looks really nice….ok don judge..
Keep them coming…Bravo Zulu
Ha! No judgment here Charles! The band is UAG. It’s been good just need to change it out. Congrats on your new bird! Very exciting!
The Cirrus Aircraft are the safest ones manufactured with the parachute system and that is one reason why I think you should keep it
Hey Big Ben I would love to see your next aircraft a single engine turbo prop PC-12 so I can be your SIC and the UND flights would be great and with a pressurized cabin
Great vid. When i retire in 19 months ( at 52yo ) i am going to upgrade to a 210 fixed gear or a something like a king katmai 182. I have a grass strip at the house. Would love a cruiser like a cirrus but my 1200ft strip says nay nay 😁
300hp katmai 182 would be perfect for you
@@kaimeier8528 i know. I would kind of like something like a carbon cub but I like the Four place side-by-side sitting in the 182
@@golfbravowhiskey8669 carbon cub wont do 140kts either. Id vote182 or maul.
👍👍🇬🇧 I lads hope both of you are well and ready to celebrate Christmas this year. Philip would love to buy a cirrus it sounds awesome to buy your own plane. But some people say never buy one they say you are better off renting one because it takes all your money owing your own. 🎅🤘philip would buy I think I would try and find some sort of work for it so it pays for its self.before that though I will have to look into to getting some training lessons this next summer 2022.philip is hoping for a good year next year fingers crossed.so take care lads and happy flying to you phil. Nice to see you both phil keep happy philip.
Greetings Gents. I appreciate the content. Thank you for sharing. I started watching the video and said to myself hey, I know that guy "that's BigErn" as I follow many pilots on the gram.
Please keep up the great content. AME definition? Kindly, JM
Great video. How did you structure the ownership? LLC? Partnership? A Delaware corporation?
Currently renting a SR22, nice G2 with updates avionics. 400+h TT, any thoughts on MEL rating and a DA-62? Eventual goal is a M600, but I just flew R seat in a phenom 100. Like you said, always something bigger and faster.
Man, it would be a dream to own something like this. Ive been salivating at the SR22 since they released it.
Sadly, the price isn't even bad, I could afford it if it was only the 400k for a used one that you can find them for, I could probably even justify it as business owner, but the maintenance costs frighten me. I definitely can't afford a brand new 22.
Hey BigErn, great video and great lookin’ plane. A friend had an SR22T when he started flying, and I flew in his several times. You guys are right, Cirrus is an awesome company. I am getting my licenses / ratings and just finished my Instrument rating and am time building for Commercial. I live in Phoenix and would like to start flying different planes than the ones I’m training in. The Cirrus is on that list. Do you know anyone here in the Valley that rents their Cirrus? Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Hey Rick! Thank you and congrats on finishing your instrument👌🏽 There are a few operations out there that rent Cirrus in the valley. Scottsdale and Falcon Field come to mind. The checkout is a bit more than your usual one but we’ll worth it. Cheers!
@@FlyingwithBigErn thanks BigErn. Let me know if you have names of any of these companies at SDL or FFZ that rent a Cirrus. 😎
great video! what is the current lead time for a new Cirrus SR22 ?
Hey Ern, I'm not a flyer however I do love aviation. My favorite plane and the most vids I watch is the Cirrus Vision Gen2. I noticed you mention that you guys aren't gonna keep the plane and will eventually sell it. My question is, when you do sell, are you or would you upgrade to the vision jet? I'm sure the transition wouldn't be hard considering you already have the knowledge plus the operating systems for both aircraft are practically the same. What's your thoughts?
Great Video thanks for sharing. The most important part about this video is that you're a fan for F1. Go Ferrari 🙂
Highland green. “British racing car.” How about Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang?
How is the fuel economy? Obviously the fuel prices have been all over the place recently, but do you get good mileage relative to other aircraft?
Hey Dr & Big Ern; Any Plans to do a 2yr Ownership Review? One question (others asked in the comments) = Flight Hours? Equally important, were the Flight Hours broken into categories ie; Training, Business Trips, Family Trips, Just Fun, etc? Also the Cost of the Cirrus Maintenance Program & warranty Program Options - Cost of 3 yr vs 5 yr?
I was flying out of TUS about a week ago and there was a cirrus event for the cirrus jet. Did you happen to go?
Was a DA62 on the radar when you purchased the SR22? I think the SR22 is a great product and the DA62 adds 30% or more to the price, but the safety of having two engines, FADEC, and Jet-A also seems to make a very good value preposition.
I want to know the answer to this as well.
DA62 is over half a million more, and has two engines that require regular maintenance.
The SR22 has the CAPS Parachute system, which has already saved many lives. But the 62 is incredibly safe, with an immaculate record across the board.
Maintenance cost on twin engines always hurts. I ran a few different twins for oil companies.
@@stonehorn4641 The price diffrance and the CAPs are both good points. I guess a DA42 would be a somewhat more comparable plane.
Though from what I have see if you can spend the money. Jet-a and two engines trumps CAPs when it comes to safety.
It would be intresting to look at the safty events each aircraft has had and determin of the outcome would have better if it was replaced with the other plane.
I think it was last year a Cirrus got its self split in two, but everyone survived thanks to the CAP. A DA42 wouldn't have done so well, but I have seen the CAPs get used for engine out events more than anything.
@@ddelv1601 i flew the 42, it's a capable aircraft, but it isn't worth the extra cost over a single engine, to be honest. As long as im not flying over water, I'll take the single engine almost every time.
Currently looking at a DA50, the wife keeps talking about the 62, I keep telling her I don't want a twin.
Now, If I could talk her into a VisionJet.
@@stonehorn4641 good luck on the Vision Jet, it has to be one of the best values in general aviation right now. I'm sure it's complcating the disision process for a lot of would-be Piper m600 and TBM 940 buyer's. Though for some reason I like the M600 sls. It's more money, slower, and doesn't have the parachute but just seems like a classic.
But if you can swing it go for the Vision Jet!
Cost of the CMX program? Did you look at the Diamond at all?
Ernie! Sent you a question on Instagram if you have the time. I know you’re incredibly busy. Thanks in advance and stay safe!
Annual cost? Oil change cost? Insurance cost?plane cost? Fuel burn? Chart cost? Turbo cost?
It’s a beautiful bird! Loved the video. Super interesting the entire time despite the one camera angle. Can’t wait for the next one.
Appreciate the feedback Luke!👍🏽
You say you were only going to own the plane for three years. Any thoughts of upgrading to something bigger or faster?
