- Come let me take you on a tour, as I travel through time to show you how burgers were made 90-years ago. Laha’s Red Castle Burgers are known from people that travel across the country to get a flavor that cannot be imitated. Family owned and operated by four generations. Don’t forget to stick around for the bonus review at The Sweet Shoppe. Support local!!
Enjoyed seeing someone visit play laha's red castle. Hodgenville is my hometown and it was always special to go sit down there with my father mother and listen to Roland and my father share the days of old stories while our burgers would be cooking. I'm in Elizabethtown now and still hoping for the day that they'll consider franchising a restaurant here. Thank you for the review.
Thanks for letting me take you on a visit back to the good ole days. Glad you liked it.
You picked a great restaurant to review! Welcome to the area!
You need to head to Dewsters for fresh made ice cream in Elizabethtown!
I loved it and had a great time. Plus all the folks were as nice as can be.
So far I'm about 45 videos in and I'm super happy I found your channel brother.
Thank you
Thank you! Did you start back in the beginning?
@goodallscountrykitchen nope, I'm just randomly watching anything that pops up. I'm subbed with the notification bell on and all that so I see your content in my feed all the time now, and I'm ok with that.
@@RoSR thank you for subscribing!
Old Eastern High school student here - LOVE your videos!!! I can't wait to try this place out and others you have shown. Thanks Mr.Goodall!
Thank you for watching. What year did you graduate?
@goodallscountrykitchen I was class of 2014, and ended up leaving my junior year 😢 for my GED. I regret that mistake. I was a wrestler too. Now I'm in college at 27 yrs old. At full sail university. I am getting my cinematography degree
@@hakamor1 that’s great. Remember us when you become a Hollywood director.
What an adorable day trip. There is such an abundance of wonderful homey places here in ky. Dan and I need to get off our arses and go explore. People from the big cities just dont know what they are missing. And yes, big cities are fun too. Homemade fudge. Mmmmmmmmm
Yes, definitely go see the Lincoln birthplace, and the museum on the town square. Then finish off your day at Red Castle and Sweet Shoppe.
In my neck of the woods! Laha’s has a rich history and amazing food! We always grab a sack full when we order… it’s like a lay’s potato chip!
I could have eaten a couple more for sure.
It all looks delicious.
These are the kind of place’s that I relish !
It’s awesome!
Oohh my lord, brother, your food is awesome....exactly what I would order....love the fact that it's all home 🏡 cooking....(really need some of the chilli 🌶).....massive respect to you 👏, and sir, thanks for the vlog....take care 😀 👍
Thank you so much for reaching out with the supportive comments.
So happy that I subscribed and can see what the choices of places to eat and foods that I never ate.
Bad thing is I am not local so the chances of going to any of these establishments is “slim “ to none.
I have a favorite family owned restaurant in Gettysburg called, “Ernie’s Texas Hots.
The portions are huge and the hotdogs are thick natural casing like no other places offer.
Burgers are hand pressed and grilled with the crust.
Has Ernie’s been there for a while? I haven’t been to G-burg in 25-years and don’t remember it. I love Gettysburg. Use to eat at the Dobbins House and Farnsworth House every trip.
You are so fun to watch!
Thank you. I’m just having fun and eating good.
They are like a White Castles burger, but much better ! Used to go there on our way to Green River Lake from northern Kentucky ❤
I’m going back soon and getting doubles next time. Less bread.
So glad I came across your channel. Exactly the kinds of places i love to check out and do reviews at. I'm inspired to go do a review this weekend now!!!
Awesome. What’s your channel called?
Nomadic VanAddict
this is a great review ,i had no clue lincoln was born their ,and the food looked great thnk you ,i really love your site
Thanks for letting me take you on a tour.
@@goodallscountrykitchen i thank you
Barry, looks great as usual. I love hot sauce on the chili dog too. That is one of my favorites!
Gotta have that hot sauce.
Great vid! What a fun place to eat at. Love the historic stories. Do you ever burn your mouth? That chili looked super steamin hot and you just gulped it down ! Whew. You are a true pro eater. I agree with spaceghost27 below, that is a gooey butter cake recipe w the cream cheese. Paula Deen made it years ago and I forget which city back there is famous for it. I see you have your Jerry's Tshirt on. Good job on this one Jerry. :) Karla in Cali.
Thank you Karla. This was one of my top funnest reviews. We went to the Lincoln museum afterward. Had a great time and awesome foods.
Yum the food looks and sounds delicious got to go visit some time 😋
Those burgers 🍔 looked delicious and love the crinkle cut fries 🍟 great 👍 video love the way you dress it up hahaha great 👍
Thank you!
Both places looked really good! I know Laha's must be doing something right for being in business for nearly 100 years, but I think adding a few more menu items could even boost their business further. Barry and Mary with another great review! Also would like to wish Mary a very happy b-day!
Thank you for the birthday wishes and great compliments.
We have one of the best hamburger restaurants anywhere. Laha's is a staple for us, LaRue County natives. I grew up in LaRue County, and when I go home, a Red Castle hamburger is a must.
I agree!
Looks delicous. Thanks so much for this video
My pleasure 😊
these vids are brillant best ive seen greetings from ireland
Thank you so much!
Lahas is one hell of a burger, the sweet shop. I always buy fudge at the flea markets in Louisville and the fair best fudge I've ever ate. Also want to wish Mary a happy birthday
Thank you! Appreciate the birthday shout out!
Thank you
One last comment, the RC cola sign at the end of the video is priceless!
Feel free to comment all you want. I appreciate it and yes, RC is old school.
Birthplace of ol’ Abe and my Momma back in 1919!
Cool little town.
chess bar looks the same as a gooey butter cake. good stuff
It was delicious!!
You need to try Little Town and Country in Bedford KY. It has won national awards for top 10 burger. Gotta try the Country burger and slice of pie.
I intend on trying it. Thanks.
Fantastic prices ❤
You are just ‘scrubbed in sunshine cute’ to share this video with us!
Thank you so much!
Love your videos. Youre getting in my neck of the woods but i really like the Louisville, Mount Washington videos cause i go up that way a lot. Try The Whistle Stop in Glendale Ky. You were about 15 minutes away. Very historical and would make a good video.
I have had whistle stop on my list for a while. I’ll get there sometime in the fall.
@@goodallscountrykitchen Awesome! Love the videos! You may have these on your list as well, but if not...
Detweiler's Country Store in Cub Run
and Farmwald's in Horse Cave.
@@jacob21876 I’ll look into both of these. Thank you.
I drove all the way there because some website claimed they have the best burger in Kentucky. I was highly disappointed. It was not good or worth the drive. The staff was very gracious and they were busy that day. I wasn't expecting greatness but I also didn't expect subpar like I got. I wish them the best, they must be doing something right to be in business for so long.
That’s how burgers were made in the old days. It’s old school.
It's kind of like a white castle type of burger. If you want a more classic burger this isn't the place. Bj's steak house in bardstown makes a big juicy burger that I think would be more to your liking. Half pound burgers for like 10 bucks
That's a poor excuse for a burger
If you go back to the sweet shop try the peanut butter bar
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!! ( AND MCKENZIE TOO!!)
Thank you !!
i,am 60 i know about the ski drink old school.❤😂
I thought it was an evansville thing but I was wrong.
🍔Gonna have to stop in and get a few!!!!🍔
Definitely. Tell them I said hello.
@@goodallscountrykitchen I will
Enjoy all your videos snapper head lol,you do down home food places like JL JUPITER does philly places etc,and many others, your a mans man as far as just enjoy a good meal and hospitality, thats gracious and respectfull.

Wonderful 👍
She had me at gooey !😂! You need to copyright that saying NOW
Lol!!
Love the Sweet Shoppe's chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone
Loved everything.
😄delicious.
It was!
That slaw dog looks good
Chili dog.
👍👍
Thank you!
Did you see how much onion was on that chili-dog??? Wow! I'd still have me 3 hamburgers delux though :)
Have both!
Checked Google's photos of their burgers, yours looks way better honestly than some of the pictures people took, but my favorite burgers in Kentucky so far are Hooligan Burgers in Columbia Kentucky, they're HUGE and they make some of the most imaginative burgers one could think of, like flaming hot ones with pineapples on top, their prices are really cheap too, and I also love their loaded fries, and like this place they're local. they recently moved from their old building to a new one by Walmart, I hope you get to try them sometime
Hookigans is on my list. Thanks for watching.
Luv "old school parchment paper".........besides helping overhead, it is better for the environment!!!
Proceeds help our fur babies.....AND .80/gal cheaper....thats a NO BRAINER :):) smooch!
They have pretty tasty burgers.
I’m a huge fan of scrawny burgers !
Me too. That’s why I order em by the bag full.
" Honey Hush " looks good
Honey Hush is right!!! It was out of sight!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I always put macaroni in my chili, but I like mine thick.
That rookie cook, didn't toast the bun. Remember what you said about toast buns
Chess pie is good stuff! 👍
Awesome!!
brillant man up da usa
That chilli looks like goulash
Those Red castle burgers there may be good. But they have nothing on the Redcastle Burger here in my townland of which is ironically called Redcastle, Ireland. Served in an indoor amusement park. Some feed 😄😄
Does your Redcastle burgers come old school style or fat burger? There’s a big difference.
@@goodallscountrykitchen double beef burger 🍔
Just curious, have you ever tried Dovie's burgers in Tompkinsville, KY?
Never been to tompkinsville yet. I’ll write that one down. Thanks.
White Castle began in 1921.
Not a subscriber. However awesome video. Just want to point out the vintage RC cola sign. Super cool.
Thank you. RC is a big thing in rural Kentucky.
Go ahead and hit that subscribe button and notification bell.
Just wanted to know,do you not eat for a day,then go and eat,cause that’s a lot of food,for 1 person,anyway looks great anyway,love the videos ❤😊
I don’t eat breakfast. 16 hours between dinner and lunch no eating.
Lol I love how you said the name wrong one more time right at the end
I’m ignernt.
@goodallscountrykitchen everyone makes mistakes. Just pronouncing it like it's spelled. It took me forever to get it right
Oh Bubba, whens they gittin Crispy Possem Tail and Grape Sodies on the menu?
Soon I hope.
Really low class and hateful comment but keep on thinking you're better than 😢
What you know about that SKI SODA POP lord help me I'm sitting here in Las Vegas NV smiling from ear to ear I use to love SKI & DOUBLE COLA & NUGRAPE
You gonna have to make a trip home!
@goodallscountrykitchen I know my mom always wants to come here so we can hit the local casino's and she can play the machines 😇
@goodallscountrykitchen Do you get the Grippos B&Q potato Chips ?
@@user-hs6zv8wt3f can’t remember. I’ll have to watch the video again.
In this part of the video he ordered 4 cheese burgers and he said better enough than not enough me I would baggie them up to go in the bag but when you look at the size of the patty I would say it's about 5oz but my question is how much is each burger?and people love there burgers and me I like bacon slice of raw onion and half of a avocado with mayonnaise and Asian hot sauce or Indian hot sauce either or but I make them at home with potato logs and Russian dressing saves me a lot of money rather than going out and paying a restaurant and don't have to give a tip over the long run as it will add up during the week but many people go out and eat for lunch because they have no choice unless you bring it from home but that's usually a sandwich just buy a drink or two and maybe bring some chips with dip even better as I like to offer excellent quality for reasonable prices and usually they can't finish there meal so take it home
Probably three ounces but they have diced onion smashed into while cooking. Incredible taste.
thats a meal
So this is where Lincoln cut down the cherry tree?
Lol!
Dont you mean George Washington?😢
KFC: Kentucky Fried Chili.
They have chili?
@@goodallscountrykitchen Colonel Sanders wanted their chili recipe. That SNAKE!! LOL!
You said if they don't toast the bun , they are ROOKIES
Old school didn’t. Soaked up the grease.
Love you're motto

It definitely took me back in time. Loved it.
Lot's of things they did back then are screwing us now. Wasn't simple times either if you look deeper. lol

Do they have school buses there. Be carefull

Diet Coke 😆
Enjoyed the video. Fries look more like our chip shop chips we have here in the UK. Ok, maybe not crinkle-cut but the thickness is more akin to our “chippie” chips rather than the sort of matchstick fries I’d associate with the U.S.
I thought they were a little on the thin side but they weren’t stingy with them.
You don't know nothin bout that Ski
Nope!
CHILLI SOUP 😡
lol!!
nah, i’ll pass on those burgers
You’ll never miss what you never had.
Don't even front
He has on no gloves
It’s not required.
He can't have them on, if he has none on.
That's the old-fashioned way, back from when people kept their hands clean, paid attention to what they were doing, so it was way safer, without everyone wearing plastic gloves.
Even after being told how to pronounce the name he still mispronounced.
The burgers look wonderful, but dipping them in ketchup? Heretic!
Don’t knock it till you try it!
@@goodallscountrykitchen Different strokes for different folks!
Please make a new intro 😅
I did a while back and everybody screamed bloody murder, wanting the old one back.
Place has a bad history not gonna get into all of it. the jail let someone hang there self year ago but have the videos tapes. Justice for dalton milby. Oh by the way Abraham Lincoln isn’t from here.
He was just born there.
@@goodallscountrykitchen yea and they even moved the cabin from around bardstown/ New Haven to hodgenville. Lived outside this area for a good while but not from here thank goodness.
HEY ! There is NO such thing as a Hamburger ! They are just BURGERS There is NO Damn HAM in them and Never was! Just Ground BEEF ! The Hamburg Steak originated in Hamburg, Germany! It's a Thick Ground Beef Steak patty cooked and topped with a brown onion mushroom gravy. The Original American style Burger & Cheeseburger originated at a Truck Stop Cafe in Athens, Tx in 1898 by a man named Uncle Dave Fletcher who introduced it at the State Fair in St.Louis, Mo in 1904 ! And if the Bacon came from a Pig born, raised, butchered and processed in Canada, then one could call it Canadian Bacon, butt actually it's a type of Ham !
Thanks for the history kesdonz
