Nice review but why didn't you say something about the small metal guide that I think is supposed to go between grass and cement to help guide blade. You pointed out other parts but not that one. Was it useful? Thanks
Hi Bob. I think I mentioned it briefly. It helped to get a general idea of where the blade is under the shield. To be honest once you get a feel for it I don't really concentrate on the mark. I will say I am very happy with the edger, although it can be a little heavy with the battery on the far end. I'm also able to edge 300' of sidewalk, my drive way and street curb, plus blow everything with the Ego blower, all on the same charge. In fact I forgot to charge the battery before I started cutting on Thursday and still got it all done on the remaining charge from the prior weeks work. The blower (which I'll talk about in a future video) and the edger are the best lawn tools I've purchased in years. I'm sure some of the other manufacturers are probably just as adequate, I bought Ego because my neighbor loves his Ego mower and the battery life. He also bought the edger tool this season and is happy with it.

Thanks, but I am referring to a separate metal piece under the cover. I think there are screws where you can remove it if you want. I thought I saw one on the bottom when you turned tge edger over. Just wondering if that helped. I know the line in the forged top you refer to. Thanks
@@bobb8738 I'm wondering if your talking about the "Aligned Shaft-locking Holes"? Check out the manual, maybe page #2, at: egopowerplus.com/media/productattach/1/6/16-1107_ego_ea0800_edger_attachment_manual_na_v1.pdf
@@LawnJourneys It is called a guide plate on page 10 figure #1.
@@bobb8738 Bob I took a closer look at it today. The guide plate is between the blade and the center-line of the blade guard. It can be removed/replaced but is not adjustable in any way that I see. It definitely is used to keep the edger straight against the sidewalk edge with the spinning blade rotating on the right side. I took a few pictures I can share if you want to email me at lawnjourneys@comcast.net Hope that answers the question, sorry I was a bit thick on this one.
Thank you for a thorough and precise review. The best I've seen here.
Thank you so much, I appreciate the comment. Let me know if there is something else to see on the edger or more video using it. I'm having fun making some vids but its not as easy as I thought to plan out the video. I sometimes realize I forgot to mention something when piecing things together. lol
I will cover the EGO blower too so subscribe if you want to see that video, coming in a few weeks. I have to say the EGO Blower is awesome too!
Wow! Complete, direct, and you showed every part of the edger. 💯💯💯
Marquis: Thank you so much for leaving a comment. Glad you got something out of the video. I'm still using the EGO Edger and Blower, may get another attachment this season for the edger head unit. Not sure which one yet! Take care and thanks again.
I purchased this edger today based in part on your review...good job. I'll put it to its first test this weekend.
Joe, nice of you to comment. I'm using mine all the time and have no complaints. Let me know if you like it. Be well!
Just got the edger. Its the first time I will have ever used an edger. Great review
Thanks I appreciate that you took a minute to let me know. I've been using the edger now for a few months and no regrets. It does a great job. I just put my Ego 580 Blower experience up too (latest video). Let me know how you like it.
Nice unit man! Gonna love that this summer!
Yes, really hoping to keep the street side in better shape with this edger. For some reason I sometimes gouge the lawn on the street side. Maybe because I have to hold the trimmer higher when I'm down at street level. No more 😀
Great review
Thanks Mary. The Ego Edger and blower are solid, still running fine and battery life is more than tremendous. Be well.
Just bought mine from lowes. Cant wait.
It does a great job I still love it. Can be a little heavy but its so reliable and the battery life is outstanding! Let me know how you like it.
Good review and the edges look great. I was trying to decide between this one, a gas blade edger and using a weed eater. From what I gathered, a dedicated edger is the way to go, especially if you have long runs. I think I will go with this one since I am already invested in the Ego line with the blower, weed eater and hedge trimmer, so have three batteries. It's nice not to have to mess with the gas and oil and it is not as loud. The blower and the weed eater have been impressive power tools. Have not used the hedge trimmer yet.
Agree. Ego seems to be a solid contender. I have the Edger and Blower. When my gas powered string trimmer goes I'll get the string trimmer attachment that works with the edger setup. I'm still a gas fan for mowers but definetely like the electric lawn tools for lower maintenance and ease of use (no special fuel mixtures, carburetors etc). I do not have the hedge trimmer, although my neighbor got it and offered to let me try it. I would probably go that route myself rather than by a corded or gas powered trimmer, again lower maintenance. At least in the case of homeowner use, ie... just my yard.
@@LawnJourneys I have both gas and electric weed eaters and blowers, but big jobs I will use gas. I did go with a Honda gas mower due to the size of the lawn. I do like the convenience of Ego battery power tools. When I want to clean the back patio, I always go for the Ego 650 or 750cfm leaf blower. Don't have to mess with checking the gas, oil or pull starting - just pop in the batter and I'm good to go. But for the big leaf clean-up jobs, I will go for the Stihl backpack blower.
Great video
Thank you appreciate it. Just having fun sharing my time in the lawn. Into season 2 with the Ego edger still runs like new, low maintenance and a pleasure to use.
Nice first time review 👍
Thanks. I should have shown more of me using it. Live and learn. Having fun putting some vids out.
Lawn Journeys make another one in a few weeks. I did one last October on my Milwaukee and I did a horrible job on it. It’s starting to get a lot of views now that the season is coming back around
Great video, thank you. What is the name of that bird feeder you have in your yard? I like the fact that there is no tray at the bottom for birds to crap in and pull of the seeds out to swipe to the ground. Thanks in advance.
Appreciate the comment.
Below is a link to the feed on amazon. Its called the Squirrel Buster. I had the cardinal ring on the bottom but noticed that cardinals still ate off the ground more often, so I took it off. Since then I occasionally see a cardinal side feeding. It work great and closed with the giant birds. Had one and only one chipmunk climb the pole this year, not heavy enough to close it, so I bout a guard on the pole and its working well. The feeders are busy with Sparrows this weekend. I do recommend the feeder, occasionally take apart to clean out the bottom. If you have a problem taking apart let me know, I can post a quick video. If you get it let me know what you think. Its not cheap but it works very well for me.

Have you gotten the backpack link yet if not you should it works amazing. It takes the weight off your EGO tools.
I don't have the backpack blower. Are you talking about the strap? See link below. I should probably get one.

I'm about to buy this as well, love my ego string trimmer .are you still happy with the edger
100%. Use it often, low maintenance and reliable. We’ll worth it, glad I bought it.👍
Q: how close or cautious to be when approaching an intersecting hard surface?
I just slow down forward advance and listen/feel. Actually once you get used to it you get a feel for when you should stop of start lifting up the blade. My sidewalks and driveway are concrete so hitting the intersection does little damage. Maybe I would be more cautious with pavers but I would still use it.
You got to get the fast charger. And the smaller battery. When it runs out, you can partially charge for a few minutes on the Fast Charger, if needed.
The weight is so much less than that 5amp battery. Making this tool more comfortable.
I didn't even know there was one. I'll look into it with the smaller battery. The edger does get top heavy with the big battery on it. It can be a workout with all the sidewalk edging of my corner property. With that said, its still easier than dragging out the gas powered MTD edger. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@LawnJourneys there's two Fast chargers now.
The Rapid charger, and the EGO 700W Turbo Charger.
All charge times are approximate and from zero to full charge as follows:
•2.5 Ah Battery: 30-minutes
•5.0 Ah Battery: 30-minutes
•7.5 Ah Battery 45-minutes
•10.0 Ah Battery 60-minutes.
I suggest you buy them used. I got a used one off e-bay, they're half the price.
@@kewlztertc5386 Appreciate the info, I'll look into them, definetely Ebay. Thanks!
Opening the box required three warnings ...still waiting ...still waiting ...the box is opening at 2:35. Good grief. I'm not waiting for the battery to be charged
How would this work creating flower bed definition lines / trenches around new flower beds?
I think it works good to trim up existing lines/trenches. I've never run it directly in the turf. The edger has great battery life and plenty of power, although it can sometimes feel heavy, I think because its long.
I love my edger gota learn how to change the blade on it.
Just remember the nut turns in the opposite direction as a normal nut. Put a vice grip on the blade to chock it.
@@LawnJourneys I'm glad you told me that because I probably would have damaged it with my torque gun today getting ready for my commercial properties today.
Electric Lawn Services There is actually a way to use your hex wrench. See page 9 of the manual. If you can’t find it try this link. egopowerplus.co.uk/sites/default/files/2017-04/EA0800_EGO_Edger%20Attachment_manual.pdf
How deep did you go into the grass?
Its really user preference since the blade height is adjustable. As the blade wears down you'll also need to make adjustments to maintain you chosen depth. I generally go 1/2" to 3/4". The deeper you go the more dirt you'll pull out.
Did the battery hold up for all of the edging ?
Yes it does. I edge about 300' of driveway, sidewalk and curb. Then use the same battery on my Ego Blower. I often use it again the next week without charging the battery and make it all the way through a second round. The battery hold the charge for weeks if your not using it. Not saying Ego is any better than some of the other offerings, but I have no complaints. Plus the head unit can be equipped with other tools. When my gas string trimmer goes I'll get the head unit that fits on this Ego. Although, since I bought the Ego Edger my gas string trimmer sees limited duty around the mailbox post etc...
Hi. I need help pls. Just bought it. And in the first use it stopped few times in the middle of edging. I pushed the power button it made the noise like it’s working but the blade didn’t move. Is this normal?
The blade should turn especially if not in contact with the ground (no resistance).
Is the tool properly inserted into the power head? See page 12 of attached.
egopowerplus.com/media/productattach/1/6/16-1107_ego_ea0800_edger_attachment_manual_na_v1.pdf
If blade starts then stops when contact with ground, double check battery is charged. Let me know what you find out.
@@LawnJourneys Thanks
Can I use this attachment with the carbon fiber
Julio, Sorry not sure what your asking. What attachment?
The ego lawn mower is well worth it.
I see more than a few in the neighborhood. I love my Ego products, but still not willing to part with my Toro gas mowers 😆
😃👍🏼
Still running great. Low maintenance, just change the blade every year or two.
I'm curious when it's going to start.... 5:08 the handle may be going on.... maybe next week. Good grief
Glad you enjoyed it. I’m an amateur videographer but it’s fun. I actually just picked up a replacement blade.
Must have got up bright and early. Shirt is not buttoned up correctly. :)
Too funny and good eye! Still enjoy Ego edger. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I would have subscribed but you're wearing a Yankees hat... lol
ahhhhh, that's OK. What's your team? 🙂
Not 25 lbs. It weighs 6 lbs without the battery.
Good catch. Had I caught it I would have thrown some text below. A lot of people think this EGO setup is too heavy. I don't think its bad but all the weight is surely on the end due to the battery placement.
Do you have one? What do you think or do you recommend a different brand and why? Thanks.
Lawn Journeys , I’ve had both the Ryobi 40V setup and now the EGO line. The EGO are certainly more balanced for easier mobility. The EGO equipment is definitely lighter, and the carbon fiber string trimmer is second to none.
It's hilarious that Ryobi puts an advert in front of every EGO video.
No, thank you.
That is funny, maybe well targeted to. I haven't tried any Ryobi equipment since you stay brand specific with teh batteries etc.. In any case no complaints with EGO, batteries last long!
@@LawnJourneys , I have used Bosch for the last decade and added Milwaukee last year. Also jumped into EGO last summer. 5 tools and batteries. Huge fan.
