Nothing better to make the lawn pop than a clean, tight, crispy edge.
SO FLIPPIN TRUE!!! 🔥
I'm so happy lawn videos are back.
I 💯 agree!
Solid review! I love the content. Keep er green!
Make Er’ and keep Er’ Green for sure! Thanks William!
I love reviews. Thank you Jeremy.
No probs J! I do as well!
Great content as always Jeremy - thanks for the unbiased approach when trying equipment 😎
I will not review something if I get stipulations. I bought all my ego stuff, it’s all 💯 how I feel and I use it as I wish!
Wow, glad you let me know about the potential back issues! The Darwin’s grip sounds like a real back saver! I can order it all together!
Imo you should. It’s a tough machine on grass and backs if you don’t go with the Darwins grip.
Great information brother! I got my Darwin's grip today and that's how I found your videos then you told me about this one and it has sealed the deal for me. I love ego lawn tools and will get the edger since I know the Darwin grip will make it a dream!
💯 % you will love it! you ought of used it already, I’d love to hear your feedback.
Great long term followup review. Thank you. I have a few EGO products an I like them all.
Thanks for watching! They are awesome products for sure!
My mom got me one for my 40th birthday last year in August. I love it
That is when you know your mom loves you, she gives you this edger!! 💚💚💚
Thankyou for the tip on Darwin's Grip. I have not been able to balance the edger. It goes everywhere and bounces. I'll follow up once I get the Darwin's Grip. Thanks!
Please do! I love feedback 💯!!
Excellent and thorough video. Thanks for introducing the Darwin's Grip. I appreciate the + and - info! Thx.
Anytime! Glad it helped!
That's a great looking shirt!! LOL Thanks for the support my man!!
...... uhhh huh.... 😘
Very informative video. Appreciate the content
Awesome comment my friend! Love to see that support! Glad to help!
Good video my guy!
Thank you! I appreciate the feed back!
I really need to get in the battery lawn tool game!
For sure Dennis! I’ll dm ya!
Great review! I have one and it definitely had the power to get clean up some long neglected edges 👍
You know the power beyond belief..... how does it effect your back?
@@TheGreenerLawn I edge so infrequently that I really haven’t had a problem yet 😆
@@lazarusgrey4866 butter baby, what I love to hear!
Great review bro. I always wanted one of those. I had the corded Black and Decker for years and even on my small lawn it became a pain to use. Went with a battery string trimmer eventually and now that I mow low and often as oppose to tall and once a week I know longer need the steel blade. I found that every time I mow I edge which is 3 - 5 times a week the edging always stays clear and the string is all I need but then again I do have a small lawn with only about 150 linear ft to edge :)
Yea, I get it! I think I’ve told you this before, maybe not. My grandpa had that black and decker edger/string trimmer. lol it worked decently done the 40ft they had of edges and trimming the rest!
Edging makes the lawn look so much better! I have two gas edgers (don't we all?). An old Echo I bought in 2001 and a Stihl. The blades makes a big difference. I also use my edgers to go around all my curbing. It makes it look better than when using a trimmer. That Darwin Grip looks great!
+Hunky MrB well yea... wait.... no 😘 if you haven’t had a chance to use the Darwin grip, swing by, your back will love you for it 😘
Thanks for the review. Already have a battery trimmer and blower, and LOVE them compared to gas or electric. Looking to get a battery edger to replace my gas one, and EGO looks like a winner because of the ability to use the same battery in all tools and the interchangeability of tools (will have to sell my current battery stuff to switch over to all EGO gradually). As far as your 'cons' are concerned, I think they apply to most edgers. The first one definitely does, as I have bounced my gas edger around when trying to cut a new edge. And my gas edger has a similar issue with the handle placement as well. It does look like you could move the grip up a bit on your edger, but the Darwin grip definitely looks like a winner. Another reviewer also suggested getting a shoulder strap as a way to make navigating around the yard easier. I use my edger around my walks AND all of my planting beds, so having a battery-operated unit will be far less cumbersome than my current gas one, and way easier to maintain.
Spot on! Thank you for feed back! Always nice to get it! I learn as well from your experiences and insights! Thank you bill!
Great followup review. You are a terrific communicator. Have been frustrated with operating mine, but I thing the Darwin handle will be the thing that makes it work for me. Really appreciate. On another note, all the reviewers always show it along sidewalks and driveways. How about flower/garden beds?
That is something I’m going to do this year. I have tied It’s a couple of times and it worked pretty phenomenal. Thank you, your words actually made my day.. been needing some positive affirmation. Thank you!
I bought the ego strap for the edger and trimmer and it helps with your back
👌🏻 solid!
Look at those edges 🔥🔥🔥
Both clips, are first time edges, one ever and the other one for the season... they only get crisper 👌🏻
Just an update to my previous comment - used this edger for the first time, and compared to the gas edger it replaced, it's just peachy. First, it is about a zillion decibels quieter, and second, it's much lighter and easier to control (I had a 2.5ah battery on it). I used it on my walks and all of my planting beds (and there are a good number of them). Very similar to my gas one as far as handle comfort, and and extension will definitely be more comfortable, though not absolutely necessary. I do have one on the way (not Darwin's since they are not available), so will see how that goes. I found I was able to edge fine with the motor on the lower setting, and I assume that extended battery time. Definitely gonna use this more often than I used my gas one (which I sold) to at least edge the sidewalks every mow, but will reserve edging planting beds for every 2nd or 3rd mow, because while it's easier with this edger, it still isn't fun.
Love this review 💯
That opening dialog with Allen is super funny.
Lol I wasn’t even there... I love Al And Connor!
@@TheGreenerLawn yeah the acting was on point lol.
Good you do a review on Frenchies next?
Great review of the ego products. Thank you.

No a problem Gerry, glad to help any way I can!
I have several ego products and like them all except this one. I went back to using my string trimmer to do my edging because of the angle I have to hold this thing trying to use it.
First, did you like your own comment 😂 (I mean, I guess, you wrote it so why not like it right?).
Second, I agree with you, 💯, reason I got
The Darwin’s grip, as mentioned for like 3ish min in this video. This thing is a true back breaker, I’m with you on that one!
Based off of this video, the EGO edger seems to be a well built machine perfect for homeowner's. I use a gas Echo SRM 225 and I love it but if I was just doing my yard, I'd consider the EGO
really is! it is a solid single homeowner unit!
Great review - you made me reconsider this purchase. The angle of my Stihl gas edger was adjustable, so anyone could find the position that was comfortable. I’m assuming the Ego blade/wheel angle must be fixed.
It’s not for comfort, it changed for depth in the trench. Doesn’t really “change comfort” per day, unless you like the angle/depth it provides
@@TheGreenerLawn Thanks for the reply! To clarify, the wheel height on the Stihl Kombi was adjustable for cutting depth, but the “angle of attack “could also be adjusted by rotating the head on the slightly curved shaft. It worked well. I just didn’t like the noise and vibration, so going all cordless, and there aren’t many stick edger options out there.
@@mburke1211 nope there aren’t many options, but this one is solid besides the back ache. There isn’t any option like this and it’s a bone straight , no curve edger
I pull started my 4 stroke head for 15 minutes last weekend. I’m done it used to start first pull.
Bought the ego combo kit 5.0 battery and the rotary scissors 🤘🏼
And you didn’t fail yourself... 👌🏻 mine has always started on the first pull... of the trigger 😜
I see what you did there 🧐
@@lawn2learn you’re joining the club, you will understand the snobbyness soon 😁
Ego is the standard that all other battery tools try to meet.
I couldn’t agree more! 👌🏻
I thought about getting this edger. I do have an ego trimmer that I try to use as an edger by flipping it on its side but it’s difficult to maintain control to get an even edge. I only have about 60-70 linear feet so I am letting it go. Maybe some day I will consider it when the sidewalk gets really badly overgrown.
I can’t manage the string trimmer to flip it either so inside with you there. That’s why I have to use this. I have roughly 700 linear feet of edging lol so I under stand the hesitation on using a stick edger on 60-70 feet. It’s always there for ya when you’re ready you own the power source!
Good solid review for someone on a budget or is noise/emissions conscience. I definitely prefer my Stihl professional series edger hands down but if I couldn’t have gotten one the torque put out by a lot these new battery powered units is getting very comparable. If it’s occasional use definitely give one of these battery powered units a thought. Stihl and Husqvarna also make a lot of quality battery powered products.
For sure sir! 💯 good to see ya this season, hope all is well!!
Used mine for the first time yesterday. It’s the most ergonomically unfriendly tool I ever used. Was happy to see you gave a solution with the Darwin handle. I went to order one but their currently unavailable. Ughh. If you know how I can get one. Please let me know. Thanks
They are out of stock till mid August - September: www.darwinsgrip.com/
things are wildly popular.
I am so sorry, and I know the feeling.
That’s why every 5 ft or so, you should walk backward with the edger to clean those misses up
I like it and it works, BUT it is against the manual on this product.
@@TheGreenerLawn it will reduce batt life a bit
Just bought one. I had 3+” overgrowth on my sidewalks and it buzzed through it just fine. I have a corner lot with a lot of sidewalk and my only complaint, it was heavy and at times I needed to depress the trigger more to get full speed. Bought a shoulder strap and that solved it. I agree with the authors comments about tucking it under your arm because it’s so heavy and I’m of similar build to him.
I can get the holding the tool and having issues, previous ones I needed something, I ended up with a Darwin’s grip and it was awesome as well: diygrasscare.com/products/the-darwin-s-grip-weed-eater-extension-handle-monkey-grip-for-string-trimmer-lawn-care-landscaping-ergonomic?_pos=1&_psq=Dar&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Great pick up for it to make it awesome for you!
@@TheGreenerLawn The Darwin’s Grip is pretty neat and that’s the first time I saw one in your video but I already had purchased the Ego. Bought the strap after working on a 100’ strip of sidewalk thinking “this isn’t going to work on the other 500’ feet”. Definitely a hefty beast but it does the job! Great review on your part. Spot on!
@@bmurray330 I am so sorry. I didn’t realize that this was on the ego. I thought it was on the Toro so obviously you saw the Darwin’s grip…. Ooof I’m so sorry lol I didn’t talk about the Darwin grip in the Toro one.
I feel you on the linear feet being on a corner lot for sure. I can’t believe I didn’t realize which video this was, I am sorry. 😂😂😂
@@TheGreenerLawn No biggie at all! Either the strap or the Darwin grip system works great, the main thing is you don’t have to lug a car battery under your arm the whole time while edging. 😉
@@bmurray330 💯 that’s key. Things top heavy cause of that 😂😂😂 car battery😂😂😂 !(well played btw)
I thought it was just me with the back aches! I don’t know that’s it’s made for us tall folks. Will definitely look into the Darwin attachment.
It is sooooo worth it! I have loved mine for 2 years stint now! 💯
You could just buy the EGO shoulder strap.
@@kewlztertc5386 👍🏼
Lookin good babe!
Thanks darling!
Thanks for the video. I am thinking about buying one. My only concern is will it last long enough if there is a good but to edge. I am on a corner lot with a drive way and semi circle driveway. So I am afraid the battery won’t last. What is the longest running time you have had on a full charge???
I do 700 linear feet with my battery that I edge, then I string trim my lawn on the same 2.5 battery. It lasts pretty well. Just the blowers really eat the battery life
Great Video as always J! Questions: 1) What stick edger were you using prior to this one? (compare how the cut was on that compared to this one) 2) How adjustable is the depth of the cut? My blower has been problematic this year, and I might be enticed to make the switch to battery. (but man I really like the convenience of gas never running out of juice or forgetting to charge it! Which non-backpack Blower do you like?
No comparison, this was my first one. I had always tried it free edge style with a string trimmer (I sucked).
The adjustment wheel has good movement, I honestly don’t remember the differences in depth, but I want to say all within 1/2-3/4”..... but that’s trying to remember.
Both the ego and toro are solid models on handhelds. I have the ego backpack but the toro handheld.
If you want to test them, come over it’s been over a year since you last stopped by lol... come on! 🤣
Just to chime in to perhaps help (though probably too late), I replaced an echo gas edger with the ego edger, and much prefer the ego. Quieter, lighter, and I thought it also edged better (though that might be attributed to the new blade). Found it much easier to control than the gas one as well. I've had a number of gas and electric edgers over the years, and this is the one I like best.
@@billjordan1173 I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. all my stuff is gas a s I will have a hard time breaking away from it. Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for the Darwin's Grip------ Brilliant!!!
💯 it’s a back saver
I played with mine a few times, wasn't happy with how wide of cut it makes. It is super easy to use. Unfortunately I took the head off and put on my rotary scissors. I'm sure if the edging head will ever go back on the shaft 🤣
Prob not with your Saweet reel mower lawn... lol 1/8” too wide... it you hope it straight, you get thinner edging if it catches and twists, this is where that gap appears, so I get hit your saying 💯
@@TheGreenerLawn yeah definitely inexperienced in my part mainly, I bought it strictly for the extension shaft portion.
@@kove works wonderfully well for the rotary scissors
Do you use it along the grass/mulch concrete border? Are you able to manage it so it doesn't harm the border?
I am this year, and yes…. After the first one… kn the first one I saw lots of sparks, now it’s minimal and it looks good.
🔥🔥🔥
Lighting lawns on fire 4 sure!
Thanks for this video. I have the problem with my back being hunched over. I looked at the link for the Darwins Grip but its no longer available. Any other suggestion for that?
They are on a new generation, thank you for catching that! I’ll get it changed!
diygrasscare.com/products/weed-eater-handle-extension-darwin-s-grip-trimmer-monkey-grip-for-string-trimmer-lawn-care-landscaping-ergonomic?_pos=1&_sid=bace876d1&_ss=r
@@TheGreenerLawn Awesome, thank you!
How effective is it edging a mulch bed In the yard (no concrete border)?
It will cut in ( could be a bit sketchy, but you should be good) and if you take it slow then keep your edge up it should be cake!
Looks like the Darwin grip is the solution. Do you use it for other equipment as well ?
Yup, it’s on my trimmer and my stick edger both. Very handy.
Doesn't EGO sell a shoulder strap which may alleviate the back strain?
Yes they sell it, but it doesn’t hold the lower handle in as good of a Place imo. But yes, they do. 💯
Do you find the shoulder strap to be pointless? Why not use that over the darwins grip?
I have never seen a shoulder strap, tbh. I would have to default to you about your opinion of them. Adjustments of holding it on the fly for the Darwin grip make it super easy to make quick adjustment, quick switches, and stuff. I don’t know how the strap would work on that.
First time using it and that thing pull me The whole time i use it lol
Ugh I feel ya there! It has power to bite and pull.. as the edges are cleaner you will get that way less.
I’ve got this edger and I personally can’t get the hang of it. Not sure if I need a new blade, but it leaves weeds all in my side of the edger area.
Mind sending me an email of pics of what you mean? I’m slightly confused.
JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com
Yeah man I’ll do some edging tomorrow and take some before and after pics.
@@anthonysimmons5813 perfect, let’s see if we can figure this thing out for ya!
It seems like the pros may have the cons beat on this one.
I believe so, I just report the facts I find for me and my situation! But I agree with your assessment!
What other edgers have you had?
Had, none. Used black and decker, sthil, and string trimmers. Haven’t had to try many.
My blade stopped spinning. It almost feels like sometimes it engages with the rotor and sometimes it doesn’t. My lawn is growing out of control! Any ideas?
How long have you had it? Have you cheacked the gear oil in the head?
@@TheGreenerLawn I’ve had it for about 5 months and I have not, but I only used it about 2 times when it started happening. However checking the oil sounds like a good idea!
@@joseitox also do you have any other batteries to try in it? I have heard they have a good warranty, never had to use it though, good thought process to start they as well.
@@TheGreenerLawn you’re not gonna believe it. It wasn’t well attached to the head piece lmaoooooooo. Thanks for your tips though! Loved your video.
@@joseitox I am glad that you figured it out. Good stuff! Sometimes the overlooked pieces are the answer.
So, you have crispy edges. Brett Grasscapades and Brandon have tight edges. Is it better to have “tight “ or “crispy” edges? JK, enjoyed watching.
I got crispy edges from Brandon lol... it was a nod to him... tight is vintage Al and Jake the lawn kid.... and Brett sucks 😘

Change your head oil.....
Head lubrication is key sir!
Sorry but it does not take hours to charge a battery. Just pop another battery in and keep going while the other charges. Gas you have to run out to buy more. No more gas crap for me. Ego all the way.
...... lol it doesn’t take hours to charge a battery???? Copy and pasted from egos site, link below:
All charge time are “approximate” (read the word before this carefully) and from zero to full charge as follows:
2.0 Ah Battery: 40-minutes
2.5 Ah Battery: 50-minutes
4.0 Ah Battery: 80-minutes
5.0 Ah Battery: 100-minutes
7.5 Ah Battery: 145-minutes
Info From: egopowerplus.com/charger-standard/
Looks like hours to me 🤷♂️
Where did the “extra” battery come from?
I have a can of gas with 5 gallon capacity....
Ego comes with 0 or 1 batteries. YES, I agree with you a smart move is to have a second... but that is more $$$ out the gate... how many gallons of gas can I purchase for $80 , the cheapest 2.5 V battery: 56-Volt Lithium Ion Fast Charger www.lowes.com/pd/EGO-210W-FAST-CHARGER/1003130774
Let’s say $3 gallon gas cost / $80= 26 gallons of gas (for my yard, easily 3 years with on an edger, trimmer, blower).... and you normally can get several uses of a gas powered machine b4 fill up....
Devil’s advocate here Steve, but I do agree I like my ego... but it’s not without shortcomings.... there are trade offs 👌🏻
@@TheGreenerLawn Their lawnmower comes with a quick charger which I started with. A trimmer after that. It takes no time to charge either. Bought a brand name gas powered push mower and the third year it would not start. That's when the switch to Ego happened. Not giving you a hard time, it just doesn't take hours to charge. I never experienced that.
