    ABOUT:
Today we have a fun Russian lesson with Vladimir Putin. You’ll learn to understand fast Russian speech and pick up lots of new Russian vocabulary.
First, you’ll watch the clip of his speech with Russian subtitles. If he talks too fast for you, don’t worry. After that, we’ll look at each phrase individually. I´ll read it to you in slow Russian a couple of times, translate it into English, and explain the most difficult words and phrases. Finally, we’ll watch the same clip again. By then, you should be able to easily understand most of what Vladimir Putin says during his speech. Learning Russian can be fun!

@@BoostYourRussian This is fantastic. I studied Russian from grammar books for years and read short stories by Gogol, Babel, Pushkin, Chekov, Dostoevsky, Bunin, Zamyatin etc but they never really helped to understand current tv shows, movies and news. They speak too fast on those tv show so I'm constantly switching back to English when I get tired. The shows are great but this teaching style самой отлично, спасибо.

Their idea was that the state shouldn't get involved in the issues of a family to make families more stable and to reduce divorce rate. But this is a stupid law, it doesn't help to keep families, it only helps violent men avoid the punishment. 😢🙁

But don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch, как говорят Американцы. в коем случае они ни представляют большинство из нас. Если вы когда нибудь к нам приедете, вы бы сразу узнали, наскоько мы любим вашу страну и культуру.

Hi Adam! "Обречён на успех" is a common phrase that´s worth learning by heart. The opposite is "обречён на провал". For example, эта идея была обреченá на успех (провал) с самого начала.

@@songcasserole3773 Thanks - after reading other comments it sounds like "fated" is the word with the closest connotation - definitely not an exact translation.
It's interesting how trying to translate can be fraught with pitfalls. One word Putin once used to describe Donald Trump was "яркий" which translates as something like bright or colorful or even flamboyant but Trump took it to mean bright as in intelligent.
