As an arsenal fan, I was and remain excited by the potential, but struggle with the logic of the signing given the price tag and player’s form. This video’s analysis only further confirms my confusion. If we were willing to spend 60mil, surely a slightly bigger outlay on Tonali (who has more backwards /retreating defense aptitude), or Diaby (who has been in greater attacking / creative / goal scoring form) would’ve been better signings at similar prices. Likewise, Maddison, whom we’ve been linked with before, was gettable for 20 mil less, and has more demonstrated success as a versatile attacking mid / winger in the prem, with the skills to operate as a false 9 if needed. Given that we already have Nketiah who can play traditional striker, and Trossard to function as a false 9 / depth winger, 60 mil seems a very exorbitant gamble for us. I understand how his physical profile elements potentially help our aerial dominance and Arteta’s apparent desire to build a more physically imposing side… but surely if we were gambling on potential, Szobozolai (to whom we’ve also had prior links) would’ve ticked the same boxes coming off better form? Idk… fingers crossed!!!

Müller is exactly what they are trying to replicate. But for that Havertz needs to be likable and charismatic, so people actually try to find him during a match. Arsenal players are not looking for him at all. They play in circles to Saka and Martinelli and only by minute 70, when the defense gets tired, they start to finally break through.

Not trying to be biased here but he also dipped for Germany recently. Also the German NT has a history of players actually being better for them than the club, Miroslav Klose the prime example. Add to that Chelsea literally had a German manager who he won the UCL with. But later was not good enough for. So I don't buy that side of the argument.

But he played it because we didn't have another fitting #9 for our ball possession playing style of coach Peter Bosz. He didn't choose Alario because of his lacking technical skills and lacking passing skills. Volland who usually played the false #9 was injured. Havertz can play the false #9, because of his technical skills and passing skills. He can score goals, including headed goals. But it's a waste of his skills to use him on this position. However, the main problem of Havertz in Chelsea and now at Arsenal should be the psychological aspect. Maybe it's too much pressure. Like it was at the beginning of his last season in Leverkusen, when fans and club expected him to carry the team on his own, when he as the star of the team was the scapegoat of the fans after bad matches of the whole team. It's such an interesting transfer for a number of reasons. Firstly, I'm not convinced he was what we needed and given Chelsea clearly wanted rid of him I think we overpaid. What's really interesting for me, though, is that this transfer is basically Arsenal saying we don't think Chelsea know what they're doing and they're such a mess that they can artificially make players look bad. His confidence does look shot and I'm really hopeful that he can recover his best form. Not just for Arsenal's sake but as a lesson to Chelsea that you can't buy players, play them out of position in a toxic environment of managerial changes and players being traded like shares on the stock market and expect any level of footballing success.

For me I’m so excited you’re doing this because I absolutely 💯 understand what Arteta is doing and why he went with this profile.
People need to trust Arteta. He turned a hated Xhaka into the club legend. People hated White when Arteta moved him from CB to RB. Both cases we know how it turned up.
Arterta brought in Ramsdale and he’s been exceptionally good. Zinchenko came in and was immediately transformed into a new inverted LB, not a well understood role; how did it turn out? Other teams are copying it.
Martinelli Odegaard Saka all have become world class and their finishing was scintillating last season after serious work on their efficiency; people now have become so accustomed to the lofty levels our team has reached, forgetting the amount of work it took to get there. Silly really. It’s Arteta who puts in hours of work and strategy to see us where we are now. We have 4 players in the team of the season with serious individual prices scooped; how did that come about?
It’s rubbish to hear what people are saying so early about Arteta. People must shut up and wait and learn. Arterta is definitely evolving the team AGAIN this season.

The lack of dynamism is the biggest point you made for me. Xhaka was never an incredible athlete, yes he was physically strong but not fast or explosive and yet last season he made the extra effort when opportunities arose to have those little bursts and that’s what drove the team forward and got him those goals. Havertz has shown in the past he’s capable of doing so to great effect but at the moment he’s not even looking for those opportunities, let alone taking them when they come. It’s not a lack of ability, it’s a lack of effort and mindset and that is inexcusable for a professional athlete imo. Until he sorts it out he does not deserve a place in this team.

Can't take on defenders so not a winger, poor at finishing so not a striker, can't tackle/pass well enough so not a midfielder, and yes we've tried him in all those three roles. He was used as a false nine / striker only because of, as you said of his somewhat decent aerial duel winning ability. But even that he's better at defensive headers than the offensive ones.
Personally his positives I'd say are his pressing and maybe his movements, and in glimpses can have a world class first touch. That's it. I'd play him attacking mid or support striker but hey, Arteta's the manager.

@@andreasgamperl9583 No buddy, the reason Chelsea bought Havertz was clearly because he could play as a CAM and play other positions which means he could also cover other Positions when needed.
The problem with Kai havertz is that he can play anywhere from a CAM to every front three position but he cannot play any position effectively.
A perfect example is Bernardo Silva, Silva can play as a CAM, RW and LW but the difference is that Silva would give you an output of at least 80% regardless of where he plays and Kia Havertz on his best day would give you like 40% output in his best position.

You can tel from his demeanor that he's a confidence player - which makes the way Arteta has integrated him look like a mistake - if he'd started with him on the bench and slowly integrated him into the team, then he culd have taken the pressure off. Now if he removes him/subs him regularly then it looks like a lack of confidence in him. The only way is backwards now.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and it's a pity. As you say, he should have integrated him in smaller doses to protect him from the fans and media. He missed a few chances down to low confidence and made a succession of bad passes due to being uncomfortable. Unfortunately due to those few moments, he's being absolutely anally raped by everyone. Apart from those things honestly imo he's been decent. Looks like he probably won't be given the time now..

His pressing and duel winning abilities are great for an attacking player, His ability to find pockets and linkup the play from these pockets, His aerial abilities adding another physical dimension to the game while not being a burden technically.

This is explains why his good perfomances for chelsea have mainly come in the champions league where teams generally afford you more space and why he has struggled in the premier league. I don't think his problem is a positional thing as part of what made him special initially was his ability to play multiple positions for leverkusen. I'm not convinced he is gonna hack it for arsenal( obviously I am biased) and think the best move for him would have been bayern munich.

To this day I stand firm in the opinion that Tuchel was the manager that better understood Havertz as a footballer, and that is a testament to the german manager's intelligence, because believe me, he is not an easy player to understand. He seems a midfielder but he is clearly not. His best position is no. 9, whether you like it or not, and better with a partner beside him (that was the reasoning behind the signing of Lukaku). He had one season where he massively overperformed his xG, but all of his other numbers stayed the same.
Even with that season included, hes only had 2 seasons of more than 10 goals and only 2 seasons of 5 assists or more. This is his 8th season.
Things like his shot on target rates were actually the same or better when he played at Chelsea. And their own stat display shows he cant carry the ball, doesnt play defense, cant score, and only passes well. And even thats diminished because by playing him, youre taking out another player who could probably generate five assists themselves.
So unless he has another season with an xEG difference of 5, youre getting 10 goals and 5 assists best case scenario for 75 million.

He was 20 years old, had seen two seasons of great production for a mid-table side and it was easy to think that he could round out his game with experience.
Now, hes 24, those 2 seasons look like complete outliers, with only one season of elite production from 8, it looks like that season was entirely due to luck because he hasnt replicated it despite playing similar minutes and producing similar advanced statistics.

To suggest elite clubs would pay huge sums ‘hoping’ he reaches the same heights as that 1/2 seasons is very naive, which is what you’re doing. He clearly does something that clubs value outside of G/A, or at least shows enough to make them believe he’s worth investing in. Ultimately he flopped at Chelsea, we all know that, but you’re basing your whole opinion on that spell. He’s had 3 games in an Arsenal shirt, he’s still young enough to flourish. He had the second highest minutes last season for Chelsea after Kepa. So whatever has stunted his development is certainly not game time. As a Chelsea fan having watched his every game last 3 seasons I'm of the opinion his best role is similar to what's said in the video; attacking mid/support striker. Played similar in Bundesliga and even at Chelsea his most memorable moment (UCL final goal) came playing similar role in a front 3 behind Werner. I was also intrigued with Lukaku and him briefly pairing, but we didn't get to properly test it out. I think similar support striker role could suit him. Last season it felt like he had forgot how to play football no matter where he played. It seems that has carried over a bit to Arsenal.
In glimpses he's the best on Earth, but with more proper viewing you'll realize he's far from that. Though he's supposed to be hitting his prime now so I guess at least that's a good news for Arsenal.

I will add though in terms of dynamism. Arsenal has that problem just in the way they play . We keep cycling the ball left and right and don't put in too many cutting ball to players making runs. Our defacto method seems to be get the ball to martinelli and saka on each side and keep the pressure going and eventually the team will break down. Martinelli won like 9 corners against united last week. I see so many time the players not making passes through the lines were runners are going. We really need to get better at that. I thought jorginho and vieira do that the best and that is why we are trying to involve vieira more. Odegaard for all the praise he gets isn't like cesc playing balls between the lines. He has become exception at pressing, ball retention and scoring from midfield but Arsenal players need to be making more runs and the Arsenal players need to be playing more balls between the lines forward rather just moving the ball right and left to the wingers all the time.

Wow. From CFC fan perspective - we tried him deeper. A lot of times, I would actually argue, that 63% is wrong, because he might have been put there in lineup, but he was playing all around the field. In 3-4-3 he was often dropping deeper or to the side and his the striker role was taken by other player - be it Felix/Sterling last year or Puli/Werner the year before. Under Lampard he played mostly lower and it was disaster.
Basically the answer why he ended as "a striker" with us is not just about failure with Lukaku/Auba, but as well because he was just bad everywhere else, so we had to put him up there.

That’s how you kill a players potential, constant changes, different tactics and coaches and different expectations for every season
How is he supposed to be a CM, a winger, a CF and a ST and perform at every position? He never played any of these positions before, except maybe CF
      He’s a CAM and RM

It will take half a season at least for him to get up to speed with what Arteta requires. It took Odegaard time to adapt. And he needs a run of games to get some confidence. I know it’s easy to say he’s prem proven but I’ll give him a season to prove it. Tbh Fabio Viera has looked very good this season when he’s come on, he may have a challenge there, not to mention ESR coming back.

Never have I ever been so wrong about a player. When he was with Leverkusen I was convinced he was a future Ballon D’or winner. Thought his trajectory was better than Haaland who was still with Salzburg at the time. Havertz literally has it all. Big, strong, fast with amazing technique. He just lacks IT. I'm a statistician for an EFL Championship club, and to me, the data suggests that the reason everyone is confused about Havertz is because he is inconsistent with almost every element of his game. There's a lot of talk about his position, but from one game to the next you never know what Havertz is going to turn up. He has immense talent but his first touch, decision making, positional play, and ball playing outcomes all fluctuate more from game-to-game than any other player I've ever seen or taken the time to analyse. It's like a set of dice is being rolled before every game to decide which Havertz will turn up. It suggests to me there's potentially an underlying mentality problem.
Arsenal have clearly seen his upper limit and felt they could provide a platform for him to deliver to his potential consistently, but it's a big gamble - albeit one Arsenal arguably have the depth to take.

There simply was no space what so ever. And the whole team hasnt really created much since the opposition defends so deep and so with so many men behind the ball, I think the whole team will play better vs United today, since hopefully they wont just sit back.
