    Jude Bellingham is cementing himself as the talisman of Real Madrid. With 13 goals so far this season, the 20-year-old is stepping up another level at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
    But the Englishman is proving to be far more than the ball winning midfielder he once was. Not only is he the top goalscorer in La Liga, he's also one of the highest through-ball players in Europe.
    The Birmingham born Jude is making football look extremely easy across the pitch. With him doing quite literally everything for Carlo Ancelotti, has he invented a new position? JJ Bull tries to define the top player in world football right now.

    Bellingham is an attacking midfielder who has a complete game. If a given player has a complete game, and the coach is smart enough to take advantage, then the player can have a more expansive role. We've seen this with other great players. Ancelotti tactics are wild. When he arrived at Milan as a manager, he turned Pirlo from an Advanced Playmaker and sometimes a 10 to a holding and defensive midfielder, and he has used Cafu as a winger. He has changed his tactics over and over, his tactics have evolved so much. He has used his Christmas Tree formation so much over the years, for Milan, for Bayern, for Madrid. I think Bellingham is closest to the 10s of old, the Kakas, the Costas, and what Messi would have been had he played 20 years earlier. Bellingham can play box-to-box, able to track back and recieve the ball in the midfield and even carry out defensive responsibilities. Bellingham can carry forward and playmake. Bellingham can get into the box and be a target man. He is that classic ten that has so often been extinct, many either playing a contemporary Attacking Midfield role where you have to stay up more (like Muller), or playing on the wing where they have more freedom to dribble (like Messi). Contemporary 10s like Odegaard and Bruno Fernandez have had to change their game to the point their playstyles seem almost completely different.

  • @subutaynoyan5372
    @subutaynoyan5372 Před 6 měsíci +3

    Here's my list of roles(Might edit as I conjure up more)
    - Walls: Those who dominate areas of the pitch and forces attacks to not go through, but around them.
    - Snatchers: Players who win the ball by well timed tackles, challenges, slides, interceptions
    - Anchors: A dying breed, those who are the reference of all team, they dictate their team's structural transition as per where they are located on the pitch. If you don't know what to do with the ball, you pass it to your anchor
    - Playmakers: These gonks have spacial awareness and passing range. Ideally they should be able to have good close control and must easily turn anywhere when they have the ball and should be able to pass in all directions, not just certain angles according to their body.
    - Runners: Players who utilise pace and stamina in transition, they don't just pass the ball around, they move back and forth in the pitch to provide dynamic positional variations
    - Pickaxes: A sub-branch of runners, these have meagre technical abilities but have tactical conditionaning and lungs like a dog. They don't get injured often, they're reliable if you don't have a proper alternative in the midfield, they're usually predictable, they sometimes fumble massively but have good contribution overall. Plus, their presence can attract fan abuse and hate that would otherwise be directed to classier, high ranking players who can just get offended and want to leave.
    - Artists: Players who would be nothings without the likes of pickaxes, playmakers, runners etc, but because of how graceful and talented they are, they get all the glory and praise. Also, these types retire when they want to. Even if they're not in condition to be a footballer proper, they can always find leagues and levels they can play for at least 10 games, and fans would love them because they can do flip flaps.
    - Speedy ball carriers: Easiest sort of player to find. All these chaps need to do is to accelerate fast, hold that sprint for some distance without loosing composure and be able to dribble the ball.
    - Speedy anke breakers: Now this is what we're talking. These types can show artistic traits, but unlike artists, they're fast, they're mesmerising, most artist had been a speedy ankle breaker some part of their career but injuries negated them to mere artists. These guys can do the magic that creates goals
    - Lockbreakers: Take a playmaker, put him behind the forwards, give him some artist playstyle and voila, you have an attacker that can just pass the ball through the opponent's defencive blocks to create chances seemlessly, they will be able to score his own goals if chances occur and will be totally unpredictable for the opponent
    - Foxes: These have a cult that worships Inzaghi. By scoring sneaky goals that fans swear that were by sheer luck, they try to become closer to their god, who is Filippo Inzaghi
    - Lighthouses: Tall brutes who look like beacons to be targeted with the ball in the box, these types are so tall and so dangerous in crosses, through balls and 50/50 chances both defences, and their own teammates are minding where they are. Goal chances are being created in their vicinity
    - Clinical scorers: Are you in need of a goal? Do you feel disgusted by talentless buffoons who can't score clear chances to save their lives? Call 555-GOAL, and a clinical scorer will come and show them how to kick the damned ball. These punks have every sort of shooting technique in their sleeve. Trivelas, pinpoint inside foot shots, curved screamers, driven bullet sort of shots from low, you name it, they know how to do it.

    I don't think it's a new position. Baggio used to play in a Number 10 position just like Jude, and could drop to receive the ball or hang in the box if necessary to attack balls. That was already 30 to 40 years ago.
    Real Madrid is just reviving the position of the number 10, which has been dead for years, with a player that can adapt the Number 10 to today's football physicallity.

    I’d liken him to how footballers were often utilised many years ago. De Stefano is a great example. There weren’t any strict tactical formational play, like we see in the majority of great football sides today. Players were given free roles to fully utilise their abilities. De Stefano, who were world class in basically every department, would sit in a deeper position off the ball, because he had the capability to help in defence, and start a little deeper in the build up play as well, to utilise his dribbling and passing abilities to progress play. And then, in the final third, he would most often move into that striker position, where his unmatched goal scoring ability would come into play. I’d never think that this type of football would work in the modern game, but that’s kind of what Ancelotti is currently doing with Bellingham. Probably the best player in world right now, at least on form.

  • @harrysumardi7536
    @harrysumardi7536 Před 6 měsíci +3

    His position keeps changing depending on the stage of the game. When Real Madrid in attacking stage Bellingham will be no. 9 who is ready to receive and put bal on the net. During possession, Bellingham will be in the middle as CM/CAM next to Kroos/Modric. During the defensive stage, he will be on the wing, either left or right, ready for pass breaking and direct counterattack. Ancelotti gave him a special role because of his physicality, skill, techniques, and mental.

Maybe players like Messi and Bellingham understand the game so well that they know they shouldn't fit into one role, rather support the team where they see fit. They have this Chameleon-like attribute of shape-shifting into a position where they see fit. Ironically though it always involves scoring goals. These players cover a wide variety of roles in one. Going and coming relative to possession. They moves a super efficient. Making a difference both with and without the ball. Theyre also found unmarked very often because its hard for a player to follow him around without falling out of his own position and creating spaces for the play to develop.
