      depends
      I witnessed (and got footage) of a drunk wrong way driver on US27 in FL. thankfully (for myself and others traveling the same direction) where we encountered this man was a straight section where we could see and react (had to switch lanes a couple of times and eventually went into the median)... unfortunately, just after he passed us is a curve and he ended up hitting 2 cars. no real bad injuries.
      the troopers came to my house to collect the evidence and it was used to convict the guy of negligence, habitual DUI (4th), reckless endangerment... etc etc.
      this was 5 yrs ago and he wont be seeing freedom for at least another 5 with good behavior. I never did post the video as I didnt want to interfere with a court case, guess I could now though.
      (edit) *in some accident situations, yes, I advise you to give it to the injured party, not law enforcement, it would most definitely be of better use in insurance claims*

    A valuable insight I've gained from Dashcam Lessons is that, in the event of capturing an accident on your dashcam, the inclination to hand it over to the police might be met with disinterest on their part. Rather than pursuing that avenue, a more impactful approach is to extend the footage to the victims involved in the accident. By doing so, you're providing them with a potentially crucial resource for insurance claims or legal matters, turning a seemingly routine recording into a practical tool for those directly affected by the incident.

It’s like they think there’s some grace period where you’re still ok to go through if you light has only been red for 3 or 4 seconds. What goes through a persons head when they are like 500 feet from an intersection when their light turns red and they still are thinking “I can make this”. They never seem to grasp how far they can travel in a car (or how far they can drift off course) whilst they glance at the screen for a couple of seconds, even at low speeds.

      Yeah apparently there’s a LOT of people who think it’s perfectly legal to do what that mazda did (and then the cammer, too! Cammer was about to go right behind the mazda!) - to get out into the intersection and then turn as the yellow turns red. In Oregon it’s a hard line - you get ticketed for creeping out into the intersection and being there when the light turns YELLOW. You must remain behind the line until it is clear to go. And if that means you don’t go during that cycle - that’s too bad.

      @@taylortisaactotally depends on the state. In NJ, not only is it perfectly legal to creep into the intersection, but it’s also not considered running a red light if you pass the white line fully before the light turns red.

    • @Xpired_PCP
      @Xpired_PCP Před 4 měsíci

      @@taylortisaac It's different in Ontario, where that crash took place. Honestly, all of Canada does permit this, but when you cross the stop line when it's green or yellow (aka, the "proceed with caution" light), you're now in the intersection and have to clear by the end of the light cycle, and if you're in an unprotected or semi-protected left lane, you're allowed to creep to just before half way of the intersection, until it's safe to turn. The only thing wrong here is the left turning driver failed to make sure they'd be able to clear, and the other driver blew a red (look very closely at the length of the vehicle and the stop line distance when it turned red). This accident will ruled 50-50 fault. It's actually why 99% of Ontario cities and town have red clearance intervals on their traffic lights for this reason, for the left lanes to clear out without conflict.

    There's an unparalleled level of frustration when you witness someone triggering an accident, only to find out it happened because they were either engrossed in their phone or indulging in a meal. The casual remark, "there is a car upside down behind us," delivered with an air of seasoned indifference, paints a picture of someone who has become almost immune to the chaotic scenes they've encountered over time. It's a striking commentary on the alarming normalcy of distracted driving, revealing a person who seems unfazed despite the gravity of the situation unfolding around them.
