The jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), also known as jack tree, is a species of tree in the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family (Moraceae).[8] Its origin is in the region between the Western Ghats of southern India and the rainforests of Malaysia. Jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. Both ripe and unripe fruits are consumed. The jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and the state fruit of the Indian states of Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. It is available internationally canned or frozen and in chilled meals as are various products derived from the fruit such as noodles and chips.
Ripe jackfruit is naturally sweet, with subtle pineapple- or banana-like flavor. It can be used to make a variety of dishes, including custards, cakes, or mixed with shaved ice as es teler in Indonesia or halo-halo in the Philippines. For the traditional breakfast dish in southern India, idlis, the fruit is used with rice as an ingredient and jackfruit leaves are used as a wrapping for steaming. Jackfruit dosas can be prepared by grinding jackfruit flesh along with the batter. Ripe jackfruit arils are sometimes seeded, fried, or freeze-dried and sold as jackfruit chips. |

The correct way to cut and open a Jack fruit is lengthwise thats how we do it in the state of Goa, the fruit pieces remain intact and not in small pieces.
Should have made ur own video. Why watch then?

@@antonachurra8841 he doesn’t need to make a video. I don’t know why you are salty about his comment.
Yes he told that is rural method he is showing urban method
@@nguoiradio read and comprehend clearly! That was my comment to Joss Rock! Not about the vid!
I was recently able to try jackfruit. A local Vietnamese market sells it. I am in love! I plan to get a whole jackfruit in the near future.
How do we know it has ripened
Jackfruit is one of the tastiest fruits, next only to mangoes. But it is as tough to get at the fruit, as it is easy with mango. But the effort of extracting the fruit is rewarding. Excellent instructions. The video could have been shortened a little.
I was short on time watching this, but I just increased the playback speed in the settings for this video to 1.25x and I got all of the information in a shorter amount of time. I have never dealt with a whole jackfruit, and knew very little about them, so I really appreciate all of the information that he presented here. I’ll be watching it in its 1x playback speed when I have more time, and likely when I’m ready to prepare my jackfruit later this week.
It's like a homely festival at our homes when all the family members comes together to cut and eat a jackfruit😀

THE FIRST CUT IS ALWAYS DEEP...😊
This is amazing! It looks beautiful and tasty. I love Jack fruit. It's incredibly expensive here in Portugal. I have just paid € 10,00 for 800 gr of it in two cans which I bought from Germany on Amazon. Imagine, Jack fruit from India, bought from Germany to be eaten in Portugal. I wish I had known from Jack fruit when I went to India. Greetings and thanks for you video.
So yummy yummy yummy! Thank you so much for these wonderful harvest instructions!
I like the positive tone :-) However once you de-fruit it a couple of times, you will discover your technique, and from then on it is pretty easy. I now live in Kerala, so lots of practice.

I have more in Africa..i can supply to you
Much needed video, Chef. Thanks for the same.
Even jackfruit seeds can be eaten. Dry the seeds and roast them or you can make curry out of it.
That's really nice thanks for sharing almost everything about cooking
Really appreciate and really helpful!

Hello dear chef. Your how to cut series is really very awesome and helpful. I just subscribed your channel ❤️
Very present in Brazil as well. The very young version is used as a substitute for chicken. Very nice video.
I tried it for the first time today, & its really good taste between mango & pineapple, but it's very filling, does not feel like a fruit, more like candy gummies, I had enough with 4 pieces
We have a huge Indian immigrant population in my area. Now I know why there’s jackfruit at my local grocery store. I’m totally trying it tomorrow. I love trying new foods.
It's not just right way and it's so funny as like as .....
You r right.

This fruit is not popular in Vanuatu but some foreigners brought it along and it's now consumed wherever it is found...😃😁👍🔥🔥🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺
Avoid following the "urban" of cutting a jackfruit; stick to the traditional / "rural" method. For a change, i had followed the "urban" method this morning. What seemed to be very satisfying in the beginning, soon turned out to be a huge headache. The cleaning part of the small individual pieces of the fruit is super time consuming in this method.
Jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh. 😊
U r wrong bro......this is also available in South India also......
This style is very messy & tiring. In my country, we just cut it lengthwise. It’s easier!😅
My mouth is watering, in South Africa we make delicious jackfruit curry and roti...
I love Jackfruit! I haven’t learned the true name yet and appreciate how you didn’t show that jack fruit needs to be so pretty. Also, by allowing the fruit to fall to the side in its process and natural form how to get into to it.
I have some today and this helped me especially with prepping the knife and hands with oil.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing friend, mouth watering, seeing you cut those jackfruit, delicious 🌿🍃🌱
Varun cutting a jackfruit really made my otherwise crappy day, thank you!
Varun is so wholesome. I could watch him doing anything and feel warm inside.
Nicely done. Great job . Love from West Bengal ❤️
In Odisha also jackfruit is popular both in raw and ripe form

We Bengali people love this.
In Jamaica 🇯🇲 we boil the seeds and blend them to make a juice
Thanks for this 🎉
I am very much impressed by your fluent English which is rather simple but very effective
Camera angles, explanation of fruit types etc, preparation (OIL IS SO IMPORTANT), background music, and most of all your presentation and personality: all so pleasant and endearing. Thank you
😊😢😮😢😊🎉 😅😅😢😢😊
Wow! Cutting it looks so complicated. I've never seen or heard of jackfruit before, but it's interesting. I wonder what it tastes like.
I read that a lot of people think the inspiration for juicy fruits (the gum) flavor came from jackfruit.
Its one of my favorite fruit
Thank u chef🤗🤗

Thanks for this great video.
Awesome video and so helpful!
here in philipines it is either eaten ripe or unripe. People cook unripe as vegetable, mix with coconut milk, garlic, and some shirmp or prawns or crabs. RIpe is eaten raw or cooked. If ripe will be cooked it will be mix in coconut milk as well, with sugar, tapioca, saba banana, sweet potato.
Amazing
Thank you sooooo much for this video ❤

Let me say something. If you get a jack fruit and you cut it and eat it with salt and pepper its very good, its a great combination

First time seeing someone cut jackfruit like this...and for your information south part of India also has jackfruit. In fact I am from Kerala southern tip of India and towards the beginning of century we literally rely on jack fruit just before monsoon.
lol, i think its wrong , looks messy and fruit doesnt come out nice looking with seed intact
Fantastic
Nicely explained
Can we wash the ripe jackfruit and preserve
at the shop, where one wont have the liberty to do any insertion checks, how does one make out if the fruit they picked is a juicy one ?
MH-baraka n kapha, sound is pretty good to hear.

You forgot to mention Odisha as a major producer and consumer of jackfruit. There are jackfruit forests in Kandhamal district.

Please share various jack fruit recipes.
Kerala is famous for jackfruit.
When it’s on sale in Las Vegas 2 pounds for $1, all the Asians got at least 1 in their cart. I bought a 25 lb jackfruit. It’s a gamble when you buy one since we aren’t able to cut at store.
I found out 2-3 big larvae inside the hole of the surface of the jackfruit.
Also their were eggs laid by the larvae between the fur/ skin of the jackfruit...is it safe to cut and eat the jackfruit?
Hello! I've been eating jackfruit for several years. Last year we tried cooking the fresh on a juicy fruity jackfruit. The flesh did not cook well it was too sweet. Do you have to get different kinds of jackfruit to eat both the fruit and flesh? I know when it's raw is typically when you eat the flesh... but is there ANY way to eat both the fruit and the flesh in a ripe fruit? I look forward to trying the seeds so I'm using more of the fruit.
@@kzal421 The flesh is the stuff in between the fruit pods I mean :)
You are absolutely right. I bought one before I watched this video. The gum stuck to my knife and my fingers. 😭
Huh. They kinda look like giant corn kernals, to me. I am currently in Texas and there are sometimes jackfruit in the grocery store, here.
Genius
Wow Kroger had jackfruit for sale today! So glad I didn't buy it it would have ended up in my compost pile!
Thanks ! I never ate this fruit but I see it at the store and always wonder about it
really ? ermm you are missing out , its sweet thou
Roasted seeds are actually very good!
You don't even need a knife 🔪 to cut a jack fruit we eat this alot during Summers
To make sabzi can we use bread fruit . Bread fruit taste like Jack fruit or not !
I roast the seeds afterwards. It tastes like chestnuts
