    I harvested a Jack Fruit from my orchard today. It was too big for me 55 lbs. so I gave it to some dear friends who are from the Philippines'. They were so happy, I wish you could see their faces. I loved your video and hope to see more of them.Aloha from the Big Island.

    I believe its one of the 'trade winds fruit'...there is one much rare, we call it locally as 'marang' and designated as the 'trade winds fruit' only comes out in season like the durian...early September till December...whereas the Jackfuit bears fruit pretty much in year round...we just create smoke from fallen leaves around the base of its trunk...helps inducing the tree to flower and bear fruits more often...same thing we do with our mamgoes...

    The proper way is to pick the cells from top to bottom without cutting the middle portion. Just cut a little bit of skin from the upper side and drag the skin to the bottom while you are picking up the cells. Yes it is essential to use oil to get rid of the sap. If you don't cut the middle portion the amount of sap will be very little. Thanks from Bangladesh

    I've seen these in the store. They are amazing looking but I had no idea what they were. They're about $23 each. I was wondering would you be able to ferment them? Thank you for your video.

  • @sapateirojiujitsuhonolulu5386

    Is the sap edible/safe to consume? Not trying to consume it intentionally but it does get on the fruit when I eat it and notice it accumulating in my mouth/teeth sometimes

      If there’s too much sap the fruit is probably not ripe enough. Try to pick a fruit with a bit more yellow tone, not just green. They will be more ripe. I usually eat just a few in one sitting if it’s got too much sap. Spread it out. You can also gently cook it. I’ve made stir fry with slices of jackfruit, it’s good.

    Jackfruit is one of the best tasting fruits for fresh eating. The sweet fruitiness is just unparalleled. The fragrance is amazing. Too bad it's mostly cooked. It loses its luster when cooked, in my opinion.

    • @wendiland
      @wendiland  Před 4 lety

      unexpected jackfruit are usually cooked, but they have not developed the amazing taste and aroma you were referring to until they are ripe. When ripped, definitely best eaten raw.
