England had 3 players on Mbappé, that opened up for Griezmann with 2 assists to his name that night. France had different ways of winning this game and had to pick one, which is scary...
Franceâs best player was the referee, no tactics involved here. Lloris also did very well.

No Morocco video since the start of the tournament, they have taken down some big european teams man .
The moroccan community is waiting for an analysis.
Morrocoâs game plan isnât that tactical, they just sit in a 5-4-1 which is incredibly hard to break down then score on the counter
Morocco usually plays 1:4:1:4:1 which changes to 3:5:2 or 5:3:2 & 5:4:1 all these are narrow strategies but when on counter they usually use a 4:3:3 wide formation which makes them lucky to score a goal or two
Sit deep and counterâŠ.itâs simple but hard to execute
He s probably European. We ve been waiting for Morocco video he does this
I love the passion of the moroccans. They play very effectively, but lets be honest: This style of football is only successful as long as luck is on your side and the opponent is willing to play possession.
I would like to appreciate Jules Kounde here. He made the English left flank especially Foden not creative, until the second half where Kane needed to drop to the left flank and help building up from there.
Griezmann is the key player in defensive actions, and he did 2 assists he's the MVP of this match for sure, btw for "deschamps" we dont prononce the "ps" at the end đđ
Im sory, not tryong to be insensitive. But why even bother to use that letter at all? Coming from someone that pronounce all of his letter.
@@TunaStrata Because it spells "Deschamps"which mean litterally "Fields" (and not Field, plural, not singular) and in french "champ" can lead to other words like "champetre" or "champagne" which why the "p" and the "s" are not prononciated in the word "champs" thus "deschamps"
I hope I make it clear lmao, if you have a question I'm here
Although England overall had a more consistent and aggressive performance, I think France played the game they wanted to and managed it well. France started off strong and scored a goal, then sat back, allowing England to be the ones forced to take the initiative and largely kept England out except for the penalty. Then France kicked back into gear, grabbed another goal, and once again sat back and forced England to be the ones âdoing the workâ, until once again England got a penalty (although this was quite unnecessary to concede by Theo). England werenât able to make anything substantial happen through open play and their best chances came through the penalties and set pieces, whilst France could turn on and off at will to get the 1 goal margin win without having to do anything particularly risky. Even though France were never devastating the England midfield and defence, you never got the feeling that they cared to either and their overall game management was successful.
Wrong.... tacticly france was perfect, they scored first and trying to give the k.o in counter attack... when england drew... france changed again tacticly and as a fact created 3 clear chanches to score... rabiot first and then giroud.. and then again giroud that scored the second gol... that mean only one thing... france tacticly was a master in that game... i am italian and this game must be read in terms of tactical actitude.... france know when attack and when defend, and thid is usually the actitude of the big and expert teams... so england looks like played better because france was always 1 gol on for all the game, living more ball ppssession to england, but waiting for the k.o counter attack to kill the game.
When France gives you 2 pens, you can't say you're unlucky. When your opponent has 5 clear chances (Mbappe-Tchouameni-Rabiot-Giroud-Giroud) and make 2 goals of it. You deserve nothing. Not a win, not a loss. You just have to score 3 goals. And we didn't see the shadow of these 3 goals, pen excluded.
edit: And I just remember that France didn't come to Qatar with Benzema (just the best player of the world in 2022), Nkunku (best Bundesliga player), and the legendary midfielders Pogba/Kante, and lost Lucas Hernandez.
So 5 key players at home, 2 pens. Do you just want Lloris to let the ball going in the net to make it fair ?
Oh get over yourself. England fans are just pleased we were competitive against France when most of us were worried we'd get hammered. And, like in any close game, we felt that on a different day we might have gone through. Nobody is saying France aren't an amazing team or don't deserve to be in the semis - most English people I know think France will win it.
@@joewarriner547 exactly. And of course you can say you're unlucky. A header flashing just wide of the post, fouls not given, another penalty not given, Saka being foule din the run-up to the first French goal are all examples of "unlucky". Also Mbappe and Rabiot didn't have clear chances - they were half-chances at best. @Bionity is exaggerating to be a tool.
Letâs not forget France scored from open play and not penalties,,, if it wasnât for the penalties I honestly couldnât see England scoring..... so it would of ended
2-0 to France. England had more possession but never knew how to utilise it into attack..guess itâs the managers fault not knowing how to deal with players and on field tactics.
Nkunku = best Bundesliga player? You obvisouly dont watch the Bundesliga. Also Kante and Pogba have hardly played football this year. So basically France was missing Benzema who doesnt fit Dechamps system...
@@shanr4277 Yes, your opinion matters to me, more than the fact that Nkunku was given the best player award of Bundesliga.
When Giroud didn't play in his clubs, he had always deliver in national team. Griezman struggled to find play time this year, and he shines at this WC. So YES, KANTE & POGBA are missing, despite their poor playtime. Hernandez too.

Exactly, the winner is the team who wins. So England didnât deserve it more.
Zlatan called it, Giroud will be the player of tournament
Watching him play and score crucial goals reminds me of Miroslav Klose.
Giroud is one of those rare breeds that gets better with age.
Funny how a few years ago he was a laughing stock to many. Great determination!
Giroud never give up, and is a hard worker. That is why he came back at his age After few bad years.
Giroud is a wizard, he keeps pulling goals out of the air. That final game of Eden Hazard at the UEFA cup final vs Arsenal, that was magic Giroud. The goals he has been scoring this WC? Special stuff. Most under-rated guy ever.
i am quite surprised England could press France so much on both wings. At crucial moment, 2 Sr. French players' experience kicked in. I'd say tactical level, just for this match, Southgate did slightly better. Maybe he missed a small detail, Lloris and Kane are longtime team mates, 2 penalties in a row probably is not a good idea.
How an earth would he predict two penalties in a game? England were unlucky, Kane must learn to step up in big moments
@@CMJames On the manager for not bringing Toney into the squad, he wouldâve buried that second penalty
Henderson was working the right from very early in the game, it looked a clear decision from the begining to try and exploit the fact mbappe doesnt' track back, with Henderson often the widest player on the right with saka going inside. But he didn't do enough when he was out there, often he'd get the ball just inside the french half with loads of space but no ball down the line because Saka was inside and no option inside as it was cut out by rabiot (I'd love to see henderson pass map from this position as I think it was pretty ineffective most of the time). This is what gave the french midfield so much control in the first half, especially on the break, with henderson often out of position. It left bellingham and rice 2v3 and allowed greizman so much time he was able to run the game, he was comfortably the best player on the pitch, whilst bellingham wasn't able to have the same impact on the game as previously since we didn't control midfield enabling him to get forward as effectively. Also seeing henderson sprint out of midefield to press the centrebacks when the other english players weren't ready, in a position to, or expecting to press and seeing France comfortablly pass round him was painful. In the end henderson ran himself into the ground intially trying to make up the width on the right in attack whilst defend in central mid and later with his wild pressing. Really he should be in the team to offer control in the middle of the park as we have better players getting forward and in wide areas.
Saka got much more successs when staying wide and then going at hernandez from out to in, which he seemed to do more in the second half when england had their best period of the game, suggesting someone told him at half time.
It's actually one of my main issues with Southgate system. He routinely uses the inside forwards off their oposite flanks (left footers on right and vv), which offers the strength of coming inside in build up play and for shooting, which Saka has done many times, but when we play on the counter it often results in players on their weak foot to make a cross, pass or shot. Really it needs overlapping full backs/wing backs to work well in order to keep that width offering better crossing and to stretch teams (and is also much more effective in posession based systems, which argueablly we don't have, or against teams we're expected to dominate). We have this on the left with Shaw, but not on the right often (particullary with James injured) and especially in this game with Walker sitting in on Mbappe. When Saka inevitably drifts inside it leaves us with little width. Normally Sterling operates off the left coming inside with shaw overlapping. However foden tends to stay wide when off the left, often coming deep to get the ball and so then he and shaw end up in similar spaces.
Really with that front three yesterday we needed an overlapping full back on the right and left full back inverted when going forward or just sitting in the back three and letting bellingham then run that left inside channel. But if the priority from the begining was to lock up Mbappe with Walker (pretty much the only time he got forward was when we lost posession for the first goal and he was inside the french box) then we should have used a different starting combination of our wide forwards (or different instructions early on). What we ended up doing for too long was sacrificing a centre mid to operate in the wide right where he wasn't as good as a genuine wide mid/winger would be and also weakened our midfield control.
This would have been the right game for Southgate to implement the 3 or 5 at the back system, it would have allowed England to exploit the right wing because of mbappe not tracking back. A 3 at the back system consisting of Walker playing the right CB role and a wing back of trippier which would have utilized overlapping runs on the outside well. The midfield of Rice, Bellingham and Henderson is okay because it would offer Walker a support of either Henderson and Trippier on that right wing depending on the situation. And offensively Henderson and Trippier attacking Hernandez which I think upon the fact that he wasn't getting any support from mbappe on that wing he is also not convincingly solid defensively. Starting Rashford over foden also would have been fantastic because the wing backs threat delivery crosses into the box occupied by Kane and Rashford would have caused problems. And players like Bellingham and Henderson that likes arriving late in the box would have gotten opportunities as well... I just don't understand the logic of using your midfielder to create an overload on the right when his best qualities isn't when he's on the ball (Henderson). Southgate was not poor but just didn't utilize other possibilities.
I have a question: When managers change tactics within the same half, how is this normally done? Is it just preparation and code with if a sign comes up a specific thing is done? I want your opinion 'Football made simple' as of how you have come to understand or notice these changes in tactics mid half and how they are communicated to the players from the manager?
Usually if a sub is brought on the sub coming on will communicate the managerâs instructions
Sometimes the manager can try shouting his commands at the players and whoever hears it can relay the message to the target player, but most commonly this is done by subs coming on with instructions that he will tell his teammates. There have been pictures taken before of players putting pieces of paper with instructions into their socks after reading and itâs common to see managers/assistants giving instructions to players just before they come on.
In this case I'm pretty sure Southgate had talked with the players before about the different options who should stay deep and who should press high. So he just needed to tell e.g. Saka to stay deep, and the rest would know what to do in this case. Perhaps they had initially planned to be as aggressive as possible and gamble to get an early goal.
@@eljanrimsa5843 I agree, England wanted to grab an early goal and hang on, but France produced a brilliant chance and they knew England would struggle to break them down comfortably
Tbh we are all talking about England's loss because France found a way to win. Forgotten that all this because Kane missed the game-tie spot-kick. Otherwise who knew what might have happened. But Glearish was not good enough to play against France for at least one thing, his speed and his agility.
Your analysis is amazing. I am looking to promote ur channel to some of my friends online.
Thumb of approval, and new subscriber! đđ
Henderson taking his time to work out how to get in and around Saka made Saka SO isolated early on. Literally playing against 3 men several times in the opening 20 minutes yet people complaining that he kept passing backwards. The fact he had no RB option and Kane was drifting left incessantly meant he had it all to do against Hernandez and Rabiot but he was still arguably England's most influential player. Would have loved to see Southgate switch Bellingham's side to use his pace with Saka rather than Henderson who just had no explosion to cause his over or underlaps to actually cause damage. As it was this was a defensive display by Southgate and it led to us having limited penetration. On the contrast, Foden still looked most dangerous coming inside and it doesn't really utilise that overload on the wing (I guess the idea was the Shaw overlap but it basically didn't happen because he was checking his shoulder for Dembele all game). Missed opportunities and fine margins. Think Kane had a stinker all game to be honest though - it was clear our influence needed to be on this right wing but he basically left Saka to fend for himself most of the time or made selfish runs rather than trying to create the space for Saka. Pissed me right off. The penalty miss I can take - it was the number of times an overlap or underlap would have freed Saka to drive at the defence but Kane instead made himself a target to try and work the space himself. Gotten too used to watching Jesus.

@@nigelbhebhe2805 easiest way is to play 3-4-3 with wing-backs on attack, and with inside forwards

the thing i think was most crucial is how a lot of times giroud man marked rice it really seemed to damage the english build up play
rice is also just not great in the build up. Easily flustered
As a French person, I was quite amazed we ended up winning this game, as England were truly impressive. France looked quite uninspired, especially during the 1-1 period of the game. But in the end itâs a Deschamps classic : a win based on few occasions, heroic defending (Lloris and GriezmannâŠ) and a bit of luck, of course ! But congrats to England anyway, you have a fantastic generation that has so much to give in the future !

I don't think Lucky is a great description to France's Win. I think It was all their plan but Mbappe couldn't show up but England didn't had GREAT GREAT chances in front of Lloris everything they got was great volume in front of the box. Great game, great Strategie for both
England had more possession but they could not pose any real threat on goal aside from the 2 penalty shots. Spain has like 90% ball possession every game they play and no one makes excuses for them when they lose. France has world class players that can score in big games, England cannot.

As a french fan , il would say that england had the possession but it s normal because of the goal of tchouameni. If they score first it wasn t the same history. And i think that england is a team as good as France, they could win.
Nah, France arenât a possession based team. England were always going to have more possession because they played a 4-3-3 holding with 3 midfielders, while France played a 4-2-3-1 meaning Rabiot and tcho were always in a 3v2.
I'd give Southgate a 6. He did make some smart calls that kept England in the game, but taking off Saka and bringing on Grealish with 6 minutes to go when you're a goal down was just dumb. Secondly, why didn't Maddison play at all?
No video on Morocco yet? I need an explanation on their 433 mid block
Mbappé don't defend but when the opponent loose the ball it is very dangerous because mbappe is already high on the pitch. And you can have 1 vs 1 situation
I love your analysis but watch the game again, Franceâs strategy was mainly to attack using dembeleâs side, mbappeâs side was always used to shift England and then create enough space on the other side to loosen up their defense
You are right in a sense but that tactics were used as a B plan if Mbappe couldn't use his pace to outrun england. If you've noticed the game, most of the english play started from Lukeshaw's left side & not Kyle walkers & that's partly because Mbappe is in the right side waiting for a mistake. In hindsight I thought england should have attacked from the middle where France is most vulnerable, their midfield. We just did not attack more from there. If that had happened Kane could have played his link up play more which could've created more space in the french defense & both the wings would've used the width for that crosses in the centre of the box. I always believe every team is vulnerable if a team attacks from the middle of the box or there about. France are just as vulnerable in that area as any other team. But most of the teams are too much worried about one single player.
I give southgate 3 stars...
First issue is too think that the only danger in French team is mbappe, and forget the others 10 players.
Where was mbappe in this game?
He has done nothing but he follow the instruction,he let the defense focus on him.
Deschamps is brillant,he had trained his team for that, because he knew that southgate will focus on mbappe and put 2/3 players on him.
When u put 2 or 3 players to block a player, this players will forget to defend on the others,or defend less on the others.

England had twice as many shots, but half of them were off target. They really looked good starting on their half but by the last third couldnât really create anything for an overrated Kane. They had to take chances on the outside, too wide
I did not understand. You gave these two managers seven because they adapted each other to negate each other. Whereas when Scaloni adapted to 235 from 334 to match Van gaal you gave him 3. Your point distribution is not consistent.

Just man to man marking is best options if you have pace.
I always enjoy these videoes, But it nags me that you donât cover the tactical aspect of goal creation and the goals in general.
You covered Englands right Wing in possesion when attacking, which I agree that England had good offensive opportunites, yet you didnât mention that the exact same position also from Saka, forced a clumsy penalty which led to a goal for England.
France was VERY disciplined in their defence as every man knew which english player to mark, when they tried to build up. Itâs a typical French tactic to go defensive when meeting supposely better teams. They did the same against Denmark in their group match, releasing Mbappe on the Wing for goal opportunites. I feel like against England We saw more english player defending against Mbappe (NOT only Walker, who Mbappe did manage to beat) and even saw Kyle, Saka and Stones attenpting to choke up Mbappe. Ironically still the start of both French goals came from their left hand side, even though the French right look more like they would create better goal opportunites.
Just my small take on it.

Southgate is not a proactive manager. Rashford and Grealich should of been used at halftime.
Southgate made the mistake of not putting on Rashford and Grealish, France đ«đ· won because they were hungry for it and were throwing them selves at the ball
France won second balls - almost all. They must have practiced it. England didn't practice winning second balls thoroughly. That was the game.
Can't wait for France vs Morocco!
really? I couldn't care less.
I'd not give Southgate more than a 6/10 for his weird substitutions (including the timing of them).
Were England unlucky to lose? No, but I would say they were definitely unlucky not to take this game to ET.
Ultimately, this was probably the best performance vs. a "big European team" that we've had under Southgate.
I was afraid he was going to switch back to a 3-4-3 due to Mbappe's threat but credit to him, England tried to go toe to toe with France and had spells where they were on top. The difference is France took their chances while England simply did not create enough in open play + Kane's costly miss. The only positive to take from this is that at least Southgate seems to have learned from his defeats to Croatia and Italy, where England tried to sit on a lead and essentially gave up all control to a superior midfield which cost them dearly.
I wonder where England go from there though. Southgate has brought me the best memories I have of cheering for England, and I think he's a decent manager despite what others say, but I don't think he has the in game management to win a final. Sterling coming off a mildly traumatic event and no training should never have been brought on. Saka was causing havoc down the right and should be left on, or at least subbed for the in form Rashford. Plus, surely you have to bring on one of Trippier/Trent in the final moments when you need someone to deliver a good set piece?
I think Southgate was weighing on the risk of exposing the wings to the duo Dembele & Mbappe hence he decided to keep Walker & Shaw on the field. TAA is a good crosser but his defensive skill has been terrible lately so it will be devastating to expose that wing to Mbappe to exploit.
You Should do Morocco next time
Kane shouldn't have taken the second penalty. Most teams pre-select a first, second and third potential shooters who are rarely the same.
To me England didnât blow it like Brazil did. To me it was anyoneâs game regardless if England tied it or not. France in terms of finishing was more effective . it's basically you watch the match and narrate what happens, i find no tactical analysis from this vid
Bellingham, Saka and Foden were the players I enjoyed watching in this game
Reading the English comments make me understand why you guys deserve a World Cup. You know football better than French do. For what Iâve seen on the pitch and the continuous progress of your team, you should soon enjoy a happy celebration. Your current English team reminds me of the French one in 2014/2016.
suss boul incroyable
I guess you don't know Monsieur Thierry Henry.
@@razielle6795 Iâm not saying no one knows about football in France just the comments are of higher quality in general on public fan discussions.
@@StephonJoseph dĂ©veloppe stp. Tu es français peut-ĂȘtre ? Cela confirme mon commentaire. Merci pour la dĂ©monstration. PathĂ©tique.
@@ChristianKetterer6776 so, do you follow spanish, french, german and italian channels?
Tough luck England!
We need Morocco videosđČđŠđČđŠđČđŠ
He intentionally covers all the matches aside from the Morocco ones I wonder why
Not that deep broâŠ
Why arenât you making videos about Morocco?
Who else defended England in a 4 4 2?
USMNT
Iâm glad they went out. If they had won we would have never heard the end of it. They are still banging on about 1966.
This game had alot of luck for France. They got away with soo many fouls against them. But anywhay, I wanted England to be eliminated
Today Morocco got away with same fouls. On a given day any referee can make so much mistakes, but only the English cry about it.
Of course you ain't gonn do Morocco .no matter how good they are... well bye
England will be better in 2026 when Kane and Henderson are no longer part of the squad.
Unlucky đ đ€Ł đ
England losing since 1776. What else is new !
