- How to figure out if you have a problem with a bad ac charger adapter or bad charging port inside your laptop. When the laptop is not working because the battery is not charging, or charging intermittently, you may have a broken wire inside charger or a bad charging port. To know for sure you can test the output voltage of your charger with a multimeter to see if it's good

Hello, thank you for a nice video. You're stating 4% difference as acceptable. May I have a question please: I've bought a replacement adaptor from china to power my appliance rated at 11V/2.73A. Adaptor was supposed to be 11V/3A. I believe higher amperage should be fine. But when I test with multimeter I'm getting 12.34V. I've discussed this with the seller and he is claiming the without load it shall show higher voltage than on the sheet. Is this an acceptable difference(+12%)? Or I'm risking to burn my device.
after doing that with the charger after a long time it eventually stopped working so now my laptop has no charge and I can't charge it so I can't open my laptop

Thank you. I was trying to find a current flow from one end of the charger to the other end using the multimeter, but i was not getting any reading (i think the electronics inside the brick didn't like that). This tutorial was what i needed. Thank you.

thanks, i did not had a multimeter so i had difficulty figuring out if it was the port or the wire, but as soon i started messing around with the wire it became obvious it had a similar problem to the one on this video

Hey, thx for the vid! I tried it but the outcome seems weird. At the mutimeter, it clearly shows that the charger is working(it shows the indicated volts) but as I plug it in the laptop, it doesn't work. Any thoughts regarding this?
Sounds like your charging cord is OK, but the port inside the laptop is dead. It's pretty difficult to replace the port. Search for your model on this channel czcams.com/users/PowerjackrepairOrgvideos and see if you can fix it yourself. Or you can mail it to him to fix it for about $100
I'm having the same problem where it only charges when I hold it in a specific spot sometimes that spot stops working and it works somewhere else but I got a brand new charger and it still doesn't charge I haven't been able to find a solution that actually deals with the port itself

My charger worked for 3 years so no I think I’m good having a high tech gaming laptop instead of a computer that can only use a google docs page I’m sure most people would wanna play games and use their computer for work over a worse computer if possible Which means my point is I’m not buying a bad computer to fix a charger when I can go get it fixed since I don’t got any of this Guys stuff and I’m not rich as I am

You can use any 12 volt motor or bulb for example car's headlights bulb or any 12 volt accesories
You can get one for $5 from Harbor Freight Tools

Uh hey pls answer , my laptop charger is broken , to make it work ,I waited for 2-3 hours as usual , then when I plugged it back on it doesn’t work , I tried it after 10 mins and it’s still working , My laptop is like from 6 years ago , and I always have to plug it because it dies easily like for 20-30 minutes

Hey, very useful video! However don't have a multimeter - my charger needs to be constantly moved around to charge. When I try gaming it doesn't connect at all ... From your experience is this likely due to a faulty charger ?
I don't see any obvious damage to the port and I ran diagnostics which showed no problem with the laptop battery

Unfortunately, without a multimeter, you have about a 50/50 chance of damage.
Try borrowing a multimeter or the same charger as yours from a friend/neighbor.
If not available, buy a new charger. And if the new charger doesn't solve the problem, it's a port.

The port inside the laptop has a pin in the middle. Sometimes it breaks and falls out, and that's about $100+ repair. But if you can see your pin is still there, then you can bet on the 50/50 chance, lol.

If your charging cord checks out well, then most likely, the problem is with the port inside the laptop. It's very difficult to replace the port by yourself. Most repair shops don't want to deal with it either. Unfortunately, you can't really fix it. The whole charging port needs to be replaced. Check your local electronic repair shops if they can do it.
Mine I think is the charger port. If I push my power cord in, it will charge but as soon as I let it go, it stops charging
It could still be either-or.
You need to check the cord with a multimeter, as in this video. Or borrow and try another charging cord to see if it works better.

You need a multimeter to verify the voltage.
Or borrow a working charger from someone to see if it works with your device.
i have a dell latitude e6540 and after i did some upgrades, my battery is NOT charging when it says plugged in and charging! i replaced a dead cmos bios battery, i tried anothe ac charger and ran the diagnostics and ALL passed!! i will be replacing the dc jack and get a new battery and hope i can still use my pc with windows 11 and i have the blu ray dvd player on it!! i will hate to lose this pc😢😢😢

It could be either one. You need to check the charger with a multimeter while bending it left and right. If you lose the voltage, the charger is bad.

I felt that the video was not completed as the heading suggests.
I was expecting to also see if it was not the charger that was the problem, but the charging port itself and how this would of been diagnosed.
Unfortunately, if the cord is good, there is nothing else you can do yourself. You can take it to a repair shop, and only they would be able to confirm if the port is bad or maybe there is another problem inside your device.
About 20 years ago, it was easy to replace bad components, but not today.

If you don't have the right voltage coming from the charger, the charger needs to be replaced.

Most likely the problem is with the DC jack, which costs around $10. But to replace it, local repair shops charge a lot. Between $100-$200.

Hi l like your video I have problem when the charger is plugged to the laptop it's not charging at all , so I checked the voltage of the charger like you did with the voltage meter while it's plugged to the outlet I got zero voltage, so does that mean if I get a New charger that will likely solve the problem, please let me know if you can ,thank you.
If you did the test correctly, a new charger should solve your problem.
But first, verify that your multimeter actually works on some other device.
@@Your-Self thanks the problem was the charger, Event though the problem was found the New problem is that it's hard to find a charger that work with Samsung laptops, I ordered one on Amazon and I paid 10 dollars extra to get it today I hope it works, but thanks to you I found what the problem is take care.

Basic (cheap) multimeters are always showing 1. If the numbers are not changing from 1, the charger is probably bad. But first, verify that your multimeter actually works on something else.
@@Your-Self Thanks for the reply. I have checked on other devices it works fine, i also checked charger's cord cable it was showing the current perfectly but when i press the charger very hard into the laptop's power jack it starts charging, but it has to be pressed really very hard.

If you know somebody with the same charger as yours, try it on your device. If it works, your charger is bad. But if it doesn't, your charging port is bad.

@Blactrov fixing the charger outlet on the laptop is not very easy. You may want to watch a couple of videos on how it's done, and decide if you are comfortable doing it yourself.

Unfortunately, it’s pretty difficult to replace the port yourself. Computer repair shops may charge $100-$200 to do that.
@@Your-Self I managed to temporarily fix it by bending the ground thingy or whatever to make a better connection. Will work till my tech friend comes back from vacation. :)

If your laptop charges only while you are pushing on the charger, and stops if you let go... the port is probably bad, even if it looks OK.
If it's charging OK, but not holding a charge for long... the battery is probably bad (old), which may or may not be replaceable :(

@Red Chris in your case you need to use a voltmeter (as on this video) to figure out if it's a bad cable or not.
