In this video I show how to properly diagnose and repair a power jack on a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series laptop. Power jack repairs have progressed over the years and in today's computers they've gotten better about securing the Power Jack. sometimes you can second-guess the issue with why a power jack is not working. The only way to properly diagnose a power jack issue on a laptop is to get a complete visual on the power jack itself. From that point you can visually inspect Jack and determine where the Jack failed and the best method of repairing the jack. If you are in the Savannah Georgia area stop by and say hello.

    HP laptop:
I can’t believe it worked. I used a hair pin and gently nudged the charging hole and then I put my charger back in and it started charging! I didn’t even need to take it apart so I would suggest doing that before you take it apart

Thank you so much for doing this!! This' exactly what's wrong with my HP laptop and it's a little old by laptop standards but still great for me! I just took it to be repaired and they said they'll have to send it off and then they'll fix any and all issues they find! (The screen had a few spots but nothing that bothers me). But they'll fix it only IF they can get the parts. It could potentially be cheaper to buy a new laptop, they said.. but not if I can fix it myself with just the charging jack!! Thanks again Tim!!
Where is the best place to buy parts?!

nice and clear - no annoying music, good narration explaining whilst you go - so much better than many other channels! and yes, good camera angles as well and good lighting so we can see what you're doing - some channels, you can't see what the hell they're actually doing, badly lit, bad noise - you've got far better production qualities than many channels - and why do some youtubers think it's a good idea to play loud rock music in the background whilst showing us what's going on - is that supposed to help me concentrate? I mean, seriously???

Wow ! If I done what you done to fix that laptop , I'd never be able to remember how to reassemble it back . Anyway , I am very glad I found this channel because my Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series is having the same problem and I know it is just a matter of time . You're right to the point and don't waste any time .

I take videos and photos on my phone as I disassemble - I also make paper diagrams and then put the screws in the correct place on the paper diagram so I know exactly which screw goes back where - that helps me a lot to disassemble and reassemble!

Hi!! thank you for this opportunity to fix the same laptop you are fixing, I really appreciate you making this video. Also, while I was already detaching the cover of the laptop, I noticed that one silver screw in the battery area was obstructing me to take off the cover. I also noticed that your laptop didn't have it when you unscrewed the first screws. Now, I tried to take it off and stripped that one silver screw, so I cant't take it off and can't fix my laptop.

Thank you so much. I saved $100+ in LA. Get to say Dell Inspiron 15 charger jack has a really bad design. The thin plastic part which used to fixed the jack, can break anytime when you move your charger. Honestly I didn’t even buy the part. I cut several small pieces from my daughters lego bricks, and insert them in the empty space around the jack. Glue them a little bit. And Ta-Da.

Thank you. Insightful. Seems the computer companies are creating a simple, but to most a fatal flaw. My Acer has the exact same problem, which happened almost right after the warranty ended. I guess they figure people will just think there machine is outdated and now broken, so they will buy a new one. What a racket.

Very good job, Mr Timster :)
Lovely how carefully you work with that laptop . For some trained eyes like mines , it's so easy to recognize a fellow experienced tech repair person who is not a noob and know how to deal properly with laptops .
Funny is when , in my case, most of the clients lie about what happen and you need to do some forensics to figure out what happen :)
Customer : the computer is not working
Me : Who broke it ? How did it happened ? Did it get hurt in a fight with the printer or with the monitor ? :)
Customer : Aaaaa, I don't know what happen . It was fine and not is not working

Hi Tim, I have an hp 17g140nr laptop that won't power on well I noticed the power jack got ripped out so I got the replacement part for the power jack and put it in. I plugged in the laptop and the charging indicator stays powered on but when I press the power button the power light turns on then shuts off and I noticed the power indicator light also turns off then back on but nothing from the laptop.
I unplugged the cmos battery, the ram checked the cables and nothing happens.

How much should I pay a repair shop to fix my Toshiba laptop power jack? One place wanna charge $95. I'm missing a screw in that area which supposed to close the laptop is missing, so when I lifted the laptop by the screen, the internal part of the laptop opened up, which may have made the jack detach from its position.

My Asus zenbook ux535 of 3 years recently had its first problem. The charging port got fried somehow. Charger does not go in smoothly anymore and neither do other ones that I tried. I would always have my charger connected to the laptop on my desk. It wasn’t an issue before so I have no clue how this happened. Tech guy opened it for me and confirmed it got fried and my bad luck it had to be connected to the mother board. I’m extremely sad as I love this laptop and now it’s been sent in to be diagnosed by a local repair shop. They have to get back to me still. I’m just very stressed that it won’t get fixed. I really don’t wanna buy another laptop as I love this one and it’s hard to find now days. I’m sorry for commenting I guess I just need the support. Seeing everyones desk setups and computers all over my algorithm makes me depressed. Is this something that can be fixed ? Once again I’m sorry for putting my problems on here. It’s just been a really rough few days for me.
