Those colorful sculptures are part of "Paseo de la Historieta" ("Comic Strips Walk"), those are characters from iconic local comic strips from XX century. The ones shown in your video were "Isidoro Cañones", and "Don Fulgencio, the man whom hadn't childhood", among others scattered around downtown, which followed "Mafalda", initially an homage to her author, Quino.

Good evening from the City of Buenos Aires. This comment is just to thank you for the quality of your video and the respectful way in which you show your journey. We have been lucky enough to visit 12 Argentine provinces, each city we visit has its own particular charms. It is a country open to tourism and with many good and friendly people, where there is always someone to help and offer their friendship. Buenos Aires, like any big city, has its problems, but they are infinitely less than its advantages. Our country has open arms for tourists from all over the world, a wide variety of tourist destinations, rivers, mountains, glaciers, deserts, forests, sea, jungles, cities with a lot of history and above all, a lot of love to offer. A hug!

I'm loving your videos! One of the so very few "youtubers" who does actually focus on learning beyond what's super touristy and/or upmarket. I don't mean that would not be a part of most people's visit to a city/country, but that really makes a difference when it comes to learning about a place. You're straighfoward, no-bull yet respectful about the economy, exchange rate, etc.
Hot tip: to learn about the origins of things (customs, habits, food, whatnot) as well as how things work or what they are like, do talk to locals -more than one or two: we are very open and talkative [I'm an expat Argentine but still and always an Argentine] and "always have something to say" about everything. You can then double-check, average out, and learn a lot of Spanish along the way

The museum you visited near the Fountandain of the Nereids of Lola Mora is the Museum of Copies (calcos). There you can find copies of the best sculptures of the world. I believe the one you showed is the Victory of Samotracia. The original is in the Louvre Museum at Paris. The Natural Reserve Costanera Sur is a place with birds and lovely vegetation, several blocks from downtown of Buenos Aires. From there you can see the River Plate, the widest river in the world. In very clear days you may spot the TV antena of Colonia, in Uruguay.
The Centro Cultural Kirchner has a very big concert hall and is the building of the former Argentina Postal Service "Correo Central".

I really appreciate the more local perspective rather than just a review of all the famous tourist sites. I’ll bet you could spend that whole 50 bucks on the BA equivalent of Las Ramblas, jeje. I’ll be very glad to practice my Spanish, explore this beautiful country (headed to Ushuaia, too) and pump a few tourist dollars into the economy. Hi There!. I'm so glad you visited "La Carcova" Museum. And much more surprised it was a free ride. By chance, did you see David Sculpture? (Years before there was a 1:1 scale copy of Michelangelo's sculpture, only 5 copies around the world).
By the way....the characters at the streets are "Cartoon Characters" of all times. The guy is "Isodoro Cañones" (A kind of .... jerk...a white collar .... a tricky guy...a bit of gigolo....but...he always used to end clean every time....
There are many Cartoons (popular) in Argentinian Culture such as: Clemente, Mafalda, Isodor Cañones, Hijitus (a kind of Argentinian superheore), Anteojito, and many others .... most of them ... are well known in SouthAmerica, Spain, and even in Mexico.
Argentina i'ts a lovely country. Irs so sad many people thinks about argentina just like a "not secure" country, because its such dangerous as NY or LA. ¿How long could you stay in Bronx with an Ipad in middle of a square without troubles?. Come on.
It's such a shame you guys suffered in Montevideo the lack of drinkable water this is because of the lack of rain during last 2 years (during an year, Buenos Aires and/or Montevideo, it rains once in 3/4 days in average).
Hoping the best for you, and thanks for promoting Argentina secrets (in english). It woth a lot for us.

I was waiting for an explanation of how to negotiate the blue rAte? How do American credit cards work there or is cash the only best way? Do you only find cambios near Florida Ave or can I find them in Recoleta or Palermo too? Is the blue rate the same with cambios as western union? Are cambios safe and legal?

    • @jennifershappyplace6938
      @jennifershappyplace6938 Před 7 měsíci +1

Cambios are safe but not actually legal. I was in Argentina in June, and I found the western union rate just as good as the cambios, the only down side is that western union charges a fee, the cambios don't. But make sure to have crisp new $100 US bills, that's what they want at the cambios. Cash only, credit cards get you the standard bank rate of exchange. They have cambios in several areas of Buenos Aries, usually on the main street for tourism and shopping.

Hola!

Mafalda is often compared to "Peanuts" (i.e. Charlie Brown) but Mafalda was more of a vehicle for socio-political satire whereas Peanuts aimed to lift the voices of unheard children in a world run by adults.
