Both developers deserve big respect and while in my case, we have this outcome, it could be completely opposite for you. I'm also open to test E- & K-Cycles in future with other models.
This is my honest review and thoughts about optimizer for Blenders Cycles like E- & K-Cycles. I made this video not only to see which optimization runs better, but to talk in general about applications like these. Thank you for watching. This is actually a very good comparison and a very well edited video. Thanks for your effort.
You're most welcome!
I was getting these results but wasn't sure I'm doing it right, but now I'm sure 100%, thanks so much!!!
This video was really well made! You've earned yourself a new subscriber!
Ive regularly had really good success with ecycles using 2.93
I'm using a gtx 1080 and i7 5930k
really good video man, been looking fort exactly this for a while... thank you!
Glad you like it!
I have been using both and K-Cycles for me has given very good results. I am not using the 2.93 version but the new Cycles X versions of both E-Cycles and K-Cycles and they are way way faster than normal blender. In fact with volumetrics I got excellent renders with K-Cycles. Also the in built post fx nodes in K-Cycles is a time saver as well, and I can preview Post FX withouth rendering which is a huge bonus. K-Cycles is definitely worth it, and E-Cycles also though a little pricier.
Very nice render work - great to see how blender is used instead of 3Dmax Vray and so on!
Awesome comparison! Thanks!
I’m so glad you got these results and posted this video. I’ve had very similar results and thought I was going crazy or doing something because there seems to be a lot of hype around k cycles. The only benefit I see with k cycles is the bloom feature. It’s awesome. Is it worth £50? It’s all relative I guess.
very well explained...thank u man
You done a good review. I bought E-Cycles and I prefer it for a good reason. One the speed and all the parameters I can use to match the speed I need for the quality and the tools that I've with it that speedup my process and also, give me some tools and denoise feature I have in production render engine that not be possible in standard Cycles (in the 3.xx version, temporal denoising and the implementation he made for denoising all passes + light group and co). So with E-Cycles, I can get some of what I add with engine like Guerilla render / Prman. But my goal is photoreal and VFX shots that moved. But your review was good for a no brain click preset ;)
Your video is so good. Keep it up
thanks for sharing!
thanks man, good video
The killer selling point of K-Cycles for me is the ultra-denoiser. It's way better than OID or Optix and so far is the only one I've found that will resolve micro details on the surfaces of product materials. I don't care about the speed if the denoised image is rubbish. K-Cycles was worth the price (subscription) just for that. I never use the post stuff it has although I guess that's cool if you like bloom etc.
great review, im kinda shocked, I use K-cycles mostly and love it, maybe im seduced by the bloom etc on the fly and such, anyway. thanks for the review, something to experiment with
Glad, that it works for you!
Thanks! Looks like you saved me some bucks here. That's very welcome.
Glad the video helped you!
The main issue about the review is that is using legacy K-Cycles 2.93 and not the new K-CyclesX with the cycles-x engine optimization which is about 2x and more faster. Video shows the product description of K-CyclesX, but uses old legacy K-Cycles 2.93. K-CyclesX was release August 9-2021.
Need to use different types of scenes including volumetric and sss like in my performance charts to get a complete analysis.
As mentioned in the video, I wanted to review only the final versions of Blender. As CyclesX was still in Alpha, it wouldn't be a fair game and in your K-CyclesX Legacy I faced crashes while opening the big interior scene. But I'll give it another try for sure.
As told to Chipp, it's not the point of this video to benchmark all possible scenarios. This is simply review of my daily use and the conclusion I got, from trying out your and Matthieus optimiziations. Thank you anyway for being a great dev! Cheers
P.S where did I say in the video or description that I use K-CyclesX?
We have to Add that speed isn’t the only main point of KCycle even if it has overboosted my render without washing the textures. The Bloom in viewport and the Tone-mapping are so performant that they have to be included in time saving;)
@@extrudedknowledge8710 bro, give K-Cycles X another chance: i'm using it and that's cool!
thank you, helpful
hi, could you please point me to a tutorial how to make a material similar to that white chair ? I need to make something similar on one bench and trying to find out how
Cycles x is available and 6 times faster regularly
Yeah I think with x cycles the need for the custom builds is less there.
I do like the viewport tone mapping of k -cycles.
@@cekuhnen now k cycles x is out... its faster than cycles x
6 times if you are willing to lose quality
Can I do this with my GTX 1050 and what's you're specs to
you just save me money, thanks
I will be waiting for the 3.0 versions...
Love K Cycles BUT having an issue with transparency hair cards / PNGs with alpha were we can see the outline of the cards a little lighter then the rest, making them visible :P I hope this is an issue that is being worked on!
You ever find a solution? I believe I'm having the same issue
you should of tried reducing sample count and seeing how much noise the image contained, because i heard k cycles has a much better denoiser which allows people to run lower sample counts.
I agree. Viewport crashes are killing it in K-Cycles as well as E-Cycles. E-Cycles requires some registry changes as well to GPU driver no to "run out of memory". I love K-Cycles for amazing post-processing effects. Especially lens distortion and bloom. And it also has "GPU boost" modes that actually do speed up rendering even more. Well if you survive viewport crashes lol.
So k cycles carshes alot generally?
For people using RADEON GPU's the choice is pretty clear since with K-Cycles there is a bias toward NVidia
Do i need high end graphics card to use k-cycles or can it run on older cards also
It should work with every GeForce GPU (RTX & GTX)
It should work with every GeForce GPU (RTX & GTX)
Can I know the difference between cycles, e cycles, cycles x and k cycles ?
Well it's basically this: Cycles is Blenders former physically based render engine. Cycles X is its from scratch rewritten official successor since version 3.0 and E or K cycles are just optimized/modified versions, done by independent developers.
Wouldv'e been even better if youd compared these 2 products with SFR (Super Fast Render). It was even visible at one point in the video at 9:05
why K-cycle i have black render
I hope e-cyclesx help to optimize the amd hip Please!
This will be hard to be honest, as everything is focusing on Cuda/Optix. But I hope as well, that AMD will get at least OpenCL back on Cycles-X one day.
@@extrudedknowledge8710 hip is certainly much stronger than opencl, compare rocm is amd's own dedicated heterogeneous computing, hip can translate cuda into rocm, greatly reducing the workload.
I thoight thwy might give a viewport post godam usless xd
Spealy o use them for arch via looka like i would atixk with orginal cycles
I used E-cycles quite a lot and it's never a one click solution. Tons of transparency related issues.. It's expensive and not worth it anymore now that Cycles X is out.
But what about features like light linking ?
wow. It's a non biased opinion
Weird. I have both and both performed way faster than native blender. Can't go back to native blender for me.
I like that! As mentioned in the video, it only reflects my experience. Glad it works for you!
I got kC, no worth it for me either.
Thanks for the affirmation. You could try the free version of e-cycles that I've linked in my newest video. Cheers
from my personal experience default blender has given me better results than k cycles and e cycles while only being a maximum of 2 seconds slower when quality is passable. My scenes do rely heavily on global illumination, volumetrics and transparency which is exactly where the optimizations cut corners in. I could fake the lighting to make the renders way faster on k cycles and e cycles but at that point, why use an unbiased renderer
Volume rendering and inhouse compositing makes kcycles superior.
I don’t think this is a fair comparison. ecycles rtx is sooo much faster than cycles. The $1 version, only boasts a small speed improvement. I agree that for people rendering single frames, saving a few seconds per render may not be worth it, but for rendering animations it’s a life saver. Last year ecycles saved me days of rendering. 24 frames a second really adds up quickly.
Thanks for your comment and this is what I also mentioned in the conclusion. I wouldn't call my own comparison as "not fair" :P as these are the products I decided to compare. For myself: e-cycles was too expensive in another version, as it will probably be for most of the Blender user. If the more expensive versions are even faster, then it's definitely worth it for animations. But nowadays we should also consider, that f.e. scrambling distance is also available in the stock Blender 3.0 version, which is the main speed-up tweak for e and k-cycles. I think of making a new comparison soon. Cheers
@@extrudedknowledge8710 I actually bought k-cycles because it’s all I could afford so far this year. For the money, k-cycles is the best bang for the buck. So… you’re right. If I do get a bigger job with a super quick turnaround, I may get ecycles yet. But the cases for ecycles is dwindling… especially with new Unreal Engine 5 workflows. Thanks a lot! Great videos! Looking forward to your next one.
-Worth buying?
-Aaargh, matey!!!
I wouldnt pay $900 or $300 for something that is free and I dont know why people buy these things... Some of them even say that E-Cycles is 40 times faster, not even they believe that lie... If I have to pay something that expensive, I would pay 3dsmax indie and Fstorm getting even more speed, a really good tone mapping and have to say this, but even more quallity
I was that desperate to believe that E_Cycles will make such huge difference just realizing that it gave me 1.5 times faster renders and I paid full price for the pro version!
I can't agree more fstorm is an incredible engine!
Honestly I feel quite conflicted. Yes they program but they use blender as the base which is free - somewhat I feel I fairness their product is too expensive in some instances.
E-CYCLES is no longer available
It is not available on blendermarket because of an issue with K-cycles. However, you can buy the full version on gumroad ecycles.gumroad.com/l/E-Cycles
Unfortunately there's no 1$ version anymore available
@@extrudedknowledge8710 You Are Amazing! Love you! ❤️😁
