cEDH Jhoira stax storm

  • This is a hybrid build of both storm and stax. We use jhoira to gain a draw triggers from playing whatever artifact. And with cards that reduce the casting cost of artifacts we can use stax artifacts such as Cursed totem to storm with.
    Because of that this cEDH deck is really resilient. We can play this game even if Jhoira is being killed over and over. We can control the board state with all her control artifacts. But we cal also win really fast with her intensiv card draw power.

    Avid Jhoira player here. I love playing stax in here. I do as well. but these 4 and 5 drops you have in here are gonna clog up your hand. A deck like this is great for 75 percent I suppose but you will die against other Competitive decks if we keep the big stuff in here.

  • @clocktowers1
    @clocktowers1 Před 4 lety +1

    I know this is a little older of a video now, but I wanted to get your opinion on a couple cards I'm thinking of for my Jhoira deck.
    Those two cards are Acquire and Thada Adel Acquistor. I run the Dramatic Reversal Isochron combo, the Basalt Monolith Rings combo and Krak Clan Ironworks. I figured that these two could help me steal combo pieces I need, but I don't know if they are too slow/clunky. Thada Adel also gives the cute benefit of drawing me a card potentially.
    Right now my Jhoira deck is a Stax/Storm type deck, though I've been brewing up a "pure value" and interaction based idea for a while. I've just been trying to acquire the cards.
    Anyway, thank you for your input. I'm trying to trim the fat from my commander wish list.

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 4 lety +1

      I recommend Thada adel. I did play that card once and I really liked it. It gave card value and interacted at the same time. But it demands an artifact meta from your opponents to actually work well and be worth it. It was really good when people run a lot of scepters.
      I had one game with Thada where I stole one scepter. It got counterspelled. I casted my scepter. It got counterspelled. Then I stole the next scpeter and then I won. Thada did soo much work that game.
      Aquire on the other hand is a bit expensiv. But look at this. Demonic tutor 2 mana. Scepter 2 mana. Grand totall of 4. That is only 1 less compar to aquire. But once againe you really need opponents that play artifacts.

    • @clocktowers1
      @clocktowers1 Před 4 lety

      @@cedhtv Right I do suppose there is a solid risk of people just not having good targets to steal. I like Acquire effects a lot because even if you don't get to use the resources, you just managed to deny someone from having something potentially game winning or just denying solid value.
      That game sounds insane and like a big "Christmas Day" chain of events, but I think this does a good job of exemplifying the potential power level threshold of Thada. That Islandwalk can really put in some work.
      I find myself playing against enough blue and my playgroup always has someone trying to infinite combo with various artifacts so I think Thada is warranted a slot. If anything, my playgroup and I like playing with occasional flashy/utility artifacts like Mindslaver, Phyreixan Metapmorph, Oblivion Stone etc, so I'll always have some kind of target.
      I don't think the targets are going to be consistently good enough to warrant Acquire. Also as I've been thinking and what you just explained very well to me is that it's a bit too high cmc. I think I'll pass on it. Thank you very much!

    Curious about the card choice of Dampening Matrix. This card doesn't seem to align with a couple of the design objectives of the deck. 1. It's effect can't be turned off. 2. It's effect, seems to hamper a number of activated abilities that we utilize on a large number of artifacts that have a mana requirement (mana rocks). What are the use cases where this card's benefits outweigh disadvantages? The only scenario that I can come up with where I could see using this card is in a mirror match situation where you want to lock down your opponents mana rocks, especially once you have a Blood Moon / Magus of the Moon on the board.

      You just need 1 0 cmc mana producer.
      Play mox amber, draw trigger in the stack, tap mox to pay for words of wind, and bounce it back into your hand, repeat until opponents have nothing on the table. This also enables infinite storm count

    • @justinmonteclaro878
      @justinmonteclaro878 Před 5 lety

      Mike Asterios I believe you would still need 2 rocks because the mox is still on the stack as jhoira’s ability is on cast not on entry so the mox won’t be in play so you won’t be able to tap it for mana.

    Cool to see how people build Jhoira in competitive, I fell in love with Jhoira the second I saw her, since she was my favorite color pairing AND she cared about artifacts a lot, two of my favorite things! So I built her as my first commander! :D Mine is much more casual and fun oriented build though, with plenty powerful cards, and somewhat resilient to constant hate towards Jhoira, but is much slower than a competitive build. Here is my list: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1082180#paper
