cEDH Jhoira stax storm

- This is a hybrid build of both storm and stax. We use jhoira to gain a draw triggers from playing whatever artifact. And with cards that reduce the casting cost of artifacts we can use stax artifacts such as Cursed totem to storm with.
Because of that this cEDH deck is really resilient. We can play this game even if Jhoira is being killed over and over. We can control the board state with all her control artifacts. But we cal also win really fast with her intensiv card draw power.

Great build, Looking forward on testing it.
Your "broken" competitive edh knowledge is insane!! Keep it up👍🏼
Love this deck. I made the full storm only build first and loved it and have done a version similar to this with a lot of stax pieces. Looking forward to watching a game with you playing it soon hopefully!
Whenever I get the time to do A gameplay it is going to be with Tatyova. Currently I have to much to do at work to make gameplay videos. But I hope to have some time for it soon.
Love the videos. Keep up the good work!
Your channel is just the best thing ever! I love your videos!
I am happy to read that. Makes me wanna do more.
But it would be better if your decks were quadruple sleeved. Triple isn’t enough.
Whenever I play one of your decks I’m always targeted, and always win. Love your deck techs.
hahaa :)
This deck looks super cool man! Good job! I run teferi chain veil combo and have been working on jhoira/tawnos for a year now.
It's a hard deck to play. And I think there might be better tweaks in the card selection than the ones I showcase. But is truly a fun deck!
@@cedhtv there's always options depending on the meta, personal tastes, etc. But I really liked your version. Great channel!
Jhoira is bae.
Jhoira is the deck that I have been most proud of which I came up with an idea before netdecking to see what I missed. Looks like I also missed conquerer’s flail. I will definitely need to make room for that in my deck.
the conquerors flail isen't a must have. But I am glad my video help you out.
Avid Jhoira player here. I love playing stax in here. I do as well. but these 4 and 5 drops you have in here are gonna clog up your hand. A deck like this is great for 75 percent I suppose but you will die against other Competitive decks if we keep the big stuff in here.
I know this is a little older of a video now, but I wanted to get your opinion on a couple cards I'm thinking of for my Jhoira deck.
Those two cards are Acquire and Thada Adel Acquistor. I run the Dramatic Reversal Isochron combo, the Basalt Monolith Rings combo and Krak Clan Ironworks. I figured that these two could help me steal combo pieces I need, but I don't know if they are too slow/clunky. Thada Adel also gives the cute benefit of drawing me a card potentially.
Right now my Jhoira deck is a Stax/Storm type deck, though I've been brewing up a "pure value" and interaction based idea for a while. I've just been trying to acquire the cards.
Anyway, thank you for your input. I'm trying to trim the fat from my commander wish list.
I recommend Thada adel. I did play that card once and I really liked it. It gave card value and interacted at the same time. But it demands an artifact meta from your opponents to actually work well and be worth it. It was really good when people run a lot of scepters.
I had one game with Thada where I stole one scepter. It got counterspelled. I casted my scepter. It got counterspelled. Then I stole the next scpeter and then I won. Thada did soo much work that game.
Aquire on the other hand is a bit expensiv. But look at this. Demonic tutor 2 mana. Scepter 2 mana. Grand totall of 4. That is only 1 less compar to aquire. But once againe you really need opponents that play artifacts.
@@cedhtv Right I do suppose there is a solid risk of people just not having good targets to steal. I like Acquire effects a lot because even if you don't get to use the resources, you just managed to deny someone from having something potentially game winning or just denying solid value.
That game sounds insane and like a big "Christmas Day" chain of events, but I think this does a good job of exemplifying the potential power level threshold of Thada. That Islandwalk can really put in some work.
I find myself playing against enough blue and my playgroup always has someone trying to infinite combo with various artifacts so I think Thada is warranted a slot. If anything, my playgroup and I like playing with occasional flashy/utility artifacts like Mindslaver, Phyreixan Metapmorph, Oblivion Stone etc, so I'll always have some kind of target.
I don't think the targets are going to be consistently good enough to warrant Acquire. Also as I've been thinking and what you just explained very well to me is that it's a bit too high cmc. I think I'll pass on it. Thank you very much!
I have heard this is one of the best decks ever, and the more money you put into this deck the stronger and faster it gets
It can get a lot stronger with a lot of money in it yes. But it still works on a budget. And it is strong for sure. Not the stronget in my opinion however.
I like it, breakfast hulk is big in my meta and I have been looking for a more competitive deck to bring. Already own the big mana rocks except grim manalith which I might pass on and The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale just absurdly expensive.
The tabernacle in the video is a proxy. I was play testing the land to see if it was wort the money. And I don't think it is. But that was before tymna and to day the land might be better. But it is still not wort the money in my opinion.
My deck has Mycosynth Golem and ancestral statue for infinite draw. I also use Helm of Awakening which is not a good card for stax since it is the opposite of Sphere of Resistance but it helps you a lot more than most opponents.
Been solely an EDH player for a couple years now and been looking for a cEDH deck to build. This one is it! Love it. Absolutely going to subscribe.
Glad you liked it!
This deck will cost you only $900 if you proxy the tabernacle
Cool. Didn't calculate that.
I would build this if I didn't already have three artifact decks (Breya, Hanna and Teferi). Is it possible to go blue heavy and include high tide in the deck? I feel like most of a high tide package would be good with artifact storm as well : turnabout, Timetwister, time spiral, maybe memory jar and Frantic search.
yes but I did cut all the rituals after some play testing because I didn't need them. I simply wanted more stax cards and more mana rocks. But you could cut some of the bad mana rocks for time twister I guess.
Curious about the card choice of Dampening Matrix. This card doesn't seem to align with a couple of the design objectives of the deck. 1. It's effect can't be turned off. 2. It's effect, seems to hamper a number of activated abilities that we utilize on a large number of artifacts that have a mana requirement (mana rocks). What are the use cases where this card's benefits outweigh disadvantages? The only scenario that I can come up with where I could see using this card is in a mirror match situation where you want to lock down your opponents mana rocks, especially once you have a Blood Moon / Magus of the Moon on the board.
Damping matrix don't shout down mana rocks.
I think mana drain deserve a spot in your list
Trying to have a high count in artifact and having them as the main control power. But sure Mana drain isen't bad it is defiantly a ritual. I might add it to the list because of that.
What do you think about Semblance Anvil? Also, do you think windfall and wheel of fortune are unnecessary?
Thanks didn't know the name so haven't included the Semblance Anvil card. No I don't think wheels are necessary. I think small card draw is important, but not wheel.
Does anyone have a take on this deck post Paradox Engine ban? I really wanna make Ghirapur Aether Grid to work, but it seems that it is somewhat useless now?
mostly see KCI combos or dramatic scepter / thoracle
Not sure if somebody mentioned it earlier, but isn't Jhoira + Words of Wind + two 2x zero cmc artifacts that gives mana = return all permanents your opponents control to their hands?
Someone did in the comment below here somewhere. But don't worry about that. I can't edit it in the video, but I have added in the card in my tapped out list some time ago already. Its a great WINCON for this Jhoira.
You just need 1 0 cmc mana producer.
Play mox amber, draw trigger in the stack, tap mox to pay for words of wind, and bounce it back into your hand, repeat until opponents have nothing on the table. This also enables infinite storm count
Mike Asterios I believe you would still need 2 rocks because the mox is still on the stack as jhoira’s ability is on cast not on entry so the mox won’t be in play so you won’t be able to tap it for mana.
Thank you WOTC for printing Lavinia, a Commander which can be considered as a Hard Counter to most Jhoira strategies, especially iterations that run Stony Silence/Null Rod/
Yidris storm gameplay please😊
Words of wind is the dirtiest enchantment in the deck. Two rocks and it's a wrap.
“You probably forgot this because you’re so bad.” I love that because you are right!!!
Great deck tech as always!
aahhhh. No. I didn't say you're so bad. I said "because it was so bad." meaning that the card is bad, not you! hahaha.
I'm still bad but getting better every loss. Also winning a lot more due to awesome vids like yours ;)
wow thank you! That is motivating me to do more and better!
How about jhoira w/ Sai, the Master thopterist, Throne of the God-Pharaoh and Inspiring Statuary, Bident of Thassa?
I think Sai could be included in the deck. He has card draw that is good. And he is Historic. But I am not totally sold.
No we have new Karn and ugin which are gods gift to this deck because even without the wish ability can pretty much shut down everything people do combined with mycosynth lattice and ugin reduces mana cost, draws more cards and destroys pesky permanents.
your cmc seems high to me for a cedh deck. not sure you want so many 4 and 5 drops... and isn't stax / storm an oxymoron? :-)
oxymoron?
How can we storm off? By bouncing the artifacts and then cast it again?
reducing the casting cost and drawing artifact after artifact. Extra card draw spells is also important.
Fizzles when I play
Probably just need to learn the cards more
?
Aetherflux Reservoir is not in the TappedOut decklist
oups. Fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.
Cool to see how people build Jhoira in competitive, I fell in love with Jhoira the second I saw her, since she was my favorite color pairing AND she cared about artifacts a lot, two of my favorite things! So I built her as my first commander! :D Mine is much more casual and fun oriented build though, with plenty powerful cards, and somewhat resilient to constant hate towards Jhoira, but is much slower than a competitive build. Here is my list: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1082180#paper
If anyone cares about suggesting some ways to add more synergy and fun, but without making me into a tryhard at the casual table, please feel free. I am always looking to swim in some artifact goodness
As one of the people working on the unified jhoira list for cEDH, i have... issues with some of these card choices
Go ahead. Tell me. I can learn new things to.
I am also changing and updating the list from time to time.
Here is our working list, its almost final, feel free to take a look. tappedout.net/mtg-decks/not-gartas-list-ngl/
Yes you build is a bit different, same but different. You have less artifacts in yours. I need a lot to make good use of Ghirapur aether grid. I think both are fine, depends on preferens and meta.
Yeah... so many non-historic cards making you miss out on card draw.
What do you think about jhoira with all artifacts with 0 cmc ?
I have played a lot vs it. And ... I am not impressed. Sorry to say so. She wins fast and consistent. Or I should say attempt to win fast and consistent. Whenever anything interrupts her nothing really happens. Because suddenly your commander cost a lot of mana and you are sitting with a lot of cards that dosen't do anything.
I like your opinion, that's the reason why this deck uses stax cards. I would put some counterspell cards too
Metal worker life
Don't need that amount of mana. And cursed totem will kill it. Don't wanna cut cursed totem.
Am I missing something or doesn't Torpor Orb's text just cancel out Jhoira?
No jhoira is cast.
@@cedhtv What I mean is that if you have an artifact creature or legendary creature that you want to cast these would otherwise get you a card from Jhoira, but for the Torpor Orb cancelling that out. I see you are not running that many creatures, but there are still 6 creatures that are artifact or legendary in the deck, so that is still 6 lost chances to draw a card.
@@Robfenix You draw on the cast not when they enter battlefield. You still draw the card if you have the Torpor
Hermit druid would win through blood moon. The green mana would just be to activate the Hermit Druid. They could get it pretty easily with a Carpet of Flowers
The blood moon doesn't make the lands basic, it just makes them mountains, so their combo would go off just fine. They would just need mana rocks or a carpet of flowers to beat out the blood moon
Unless blood moon enters before hermit druid or carpet of flowers.
I hate blood moon. 😭
Tezzeret isnt legendary
Yes they changed the rules. Plainswalkers are legendary now. boardgames.stackexchange.com/questions/35055/are-planeswalkers-legendary
@@cedhtv oh that's cool i didn't realize this
the music in the background really bugs me, cool video otherwise
