Itâs true the culture of respect for elders is highly valued in the Philippines and itâs the opposite in western countries. Youâre considered disposable when you get older in the US.
Exactly.
The more you get old in Phil the more you earn respect. We dont really argue older people instead we understand them because of their age.
â@@AmericanJohnnyBoone we have a saying here "Tatanda ka Rin" which means "You too would get Old" so you have to respect ur elders now so that when u get old because someday u would get old too.
it's a culture in Asia.
This has a huge downside. Many old Filipino people use their "age card" whenever young people correct their mistakes, even though the young ones have valid points. Some old people are closed-minded and don't want to learn.

This American is a sensible person. I am happy to know he finds a good life here in the Philippines.
wow, I'm from Korea and what this gentleman says is actually what I had experienced in the Philippines.. He was able to put it into words so accurately. Racism is also one thing that I don't think is present. In Philippines, they even treat people from other countries with respect, sometimes even higher respect compared to other locals
Yes it's noticeable the locals seem to treat foreigners better than their own people.
No racism in the Philippines. It's not like in America...
â@@user-yo5tk5vb8t True...
there's racism , but it isn't like conventional racism. it's more like regionalist mentality.
like stereotyping people cause you grew up in a specific place in the philippines. like if you're from iloilo people would think you're emotional or if you're from ilocos you're stingy/cheap. but nothing really aggressive or violent.

Volunteerism is very much alive in the Philippines. Let's remember the Bayanihan Spirit way back in history. Maybe there is no such thing as a website where you can go and volunteer. However, your next neighbor is always your helping hand and they will help you regardless of the time of the day!. They are always happy to help with a beaming smile in their faces. It's their pride to help people who are in need and stand by you till things get done or ask a friend for assistance. Filipinos are profound people most especially in the Bayanihan Spirit!!
Not true... very rare will you find a Filipino organised Volunteer Foundation. 9 out 10 they are either organised by Foreigners OR by Politicians who wants their names on the Foundations labels. I have seen a lot of individual Filipinos who tries to organise clean up day and no one turned up, yet when a Foreigner organises the clean-up you see foreigner and Filipinos alike turn up.... Anyway, the guy wasn't talking about Philippines as a whole, he was referring to Dumaguete.
Its seems like the meaning of volunteer is different from each country.
I think he means organised volunteerism is not actively promoted in the Philippines. I want to say that in the West, itâs not really voluntary volunteerism. In the Philippines, if one is so exposed to the local culture in towns and barrios, you will see real volunteerism. Fellow townsfolk will go to the house of the bereaved and volunteer their help. In schools, parents volunteer to get involved in school activities or donate in school needs. I donât understand his comments as I have learned since young that Filipinos are known for their supportive spirit.
@@JABM-AU you are ignorant, we have lots of organized volunteer activities, not a big news, or even make a fuzz about but we have lots, i've been to countless volunteer activities like feeding programs, medical missions, tree planting activities, clean up drives, blood letting programs, volunteer fire brigade, search and rescue during disasters and natural calamities, emergency response units...and hundreds more. and these are organized by a small school, a small hospital, a local red cross, a small foundation...etc. you are an idiot to think it's organized by foreigners and politicians. we just love to help and volunteer whenever we can. your comment is just pure ignorance. go do some volunteer work in your community before talking shit on youtube.

In looking for a wife look for traditionally/conservatively raised that knows how to cook, clean and raise children.
DON'T flaunt your wealth.
Always stick to your budget and make it clear to your wife and family in laws (expect the parents, siblings and their children to always seek for your help regarding financial problems) help them but set limitations because they will rely on you all the time.

road rages often happen in Manila mostly, but in provinces, road rage is very uncommon.
In province road rage are not that commom, maybe in big cities like Manila, Makati or Somewhere cebu they exist
From what I've seen... Road rage from other countries are far more crazier than what I've seen here... My father for example is a very temperamental person but he drives by the rule of if it's done it's done... No need to escalate especially if there was no damage. He cusses them out tho lol
The elders are respected so much in the Philippines that there is a separate lane in the supermarkets or pharmacies for them. They can get discounts too. Just show your senior citizen ID.
Btw, the people in Manila or Cebu are Filipinos too and they share the same values as the other Filipinos. So in road accidents, the people in Manila or Cebu act just like the people in Dumaguete.
This is a great interview. He is spot on about barangay mediation. I just thought about the barangay arrangement. That is true! Instead of immediately seeking an attorney, we try to resolve issues first in the barangay. So, that's actually a good thing. However, the aspect I don't agree with is the notion that it's different in Manila or Cebu. I hope people stop stereotyping because the truth is, we are all Filipinos and share the same values no matter where we are. But just like in a family, there's always a black sheep.
Thank you for your kind words to the people of Philippines. You have full of wisdom . Stay healthy & enjoy life with your family.
