What Nichols did with the tracking shots, following Burton and modulating the sounds from outside, and the cutting back and forth between Burton and the partyers. To make a play into a film like he did is really a remarkable achievement. Even more remarkable, this is a one set play.
Great movie! Like how it stays mainly at the house with the drama. The underlying tension between them...then she openly degrades him on and on....it's like you bought ringside tickets to the match. Richard Burton...excellent actor!
This is a play about the sanctity of marriage and the existential commitment of it and the other main theme is the child and childbirth as the focus of hope and renewal. Nick and Honey actually have the more dysfunctional marriage built on lies, greed and arid superficiality. When Honey's terror of childbirth gives way to her crying out "I want to have a baby' and Nick's tenderness toward her at the end we have seen a double transformation to at least a hope for redemption.
No. No. No! This movie HAS to be in black and white (and gray, I would argue). It gives it that film noir look. Increasing the sense of suspense and mystery about this couple.
This is one of those movies that get's better each time you watch it.

Liz Taylor was one hell of a an actress. RIP
All 4 of them were nominated for Oscars. Elizabeth Taylor won Best Actress. Fantastic movie!
And Sandy Dennis also won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well.

Actually one of the best scenes of all time from start to finish.
I genuinely believe George forgot the gun was fake for a second
Film date 26 July 1965 - 13 December 1965. Cambridge, Mass.
This scene scares the shit out of me..... anyone else?
Yes a little. The first time I saw it it sure did, now
I appreciate the intensity and then laugh my ass off!

So you say..
@@mmartin5579 I'm very familiar with the play. There may be other themes, but the commenter is essentially correct.
Do you blog by any chance?
@@ra7271 No, but what a kind thing to say.
@@poetcomic1 I like how you write :)
Who's afraid of the conditions of life?
Hard released nervous movie.
3:01 If Nick were in the army, this probably would have been the end of George.
Ma siamo sicuri che Liz e Rich stavano recitando?.....
Not so sure Taylor’s acting, -- just might be an insight to her true self
3:04 April fools!!!
Why was this picture not in color?
Orson Welles: "Black and white is the actor's friend. Name me one great performance in color!"
Why are you dumb?
