55:09 Wow, they use the real Disney melody on this one... the exorbitant royalties had made this impossible in the past (even in the 1968 film, where they subsitute it with "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush")
I know the Play very well and have seen it in many incarnations on Broadway. Just listen to the album of the original Cast with uta Hagen. You will get how wrong this is. It is here on you tube. Martha is a sexy, lustful 50. Ms Staunton reads 60’s. Taylor was 32 in the movie. They shot in black and white to hide the make up lines but she was extraordinary. Kathleen Turner gave a credible performance on Broadway, when she was in her late 40s And the Steppenwolf company brought in a wonderful production headed by Amy Morton in her 40s at the time. Martha seduces a young professor immensely good looking. To bed here in her own house with her husband there. Martha is the daughter of the head of an Ivy League institution such as Harvard or Yale. She is not working class. She is educated, witty, super intelligent and extremely sexy woman.
I really like this version because conielth hills fantastic as the mild mannered but very sardonic and stotic george and imelda struntens loud shrieking voice fits perfectly for a loudmouth braying drunk like martha
Exceptional production, but why would they not give the names of the actors? Very strange to publish something like this and not offer even basic credits.
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I have seen the brilliant job Uta Hagen did, and while Martha was played in a brash manner, there were levels and layers to her portrayal. Imelda played the brashness throughout, but came through in the 3rd act. In my opinion. @@alittlepeace9562
I actually prefer Imelda's version of Martha to Elizabeth's. Elizabeth made it seem like she had some sort of Auto-brewery syndrome. Imelda is loud but not necessarily boozy. You can get the impression that the state she is in at the time of the play isn't too far removed from her usual demeanor and it's more believable.
Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor are a hard act to follow., im glad im not a theatre critic , who played the George segal character?ive seen him somewhere before. I feel sorry for anyone prepared to take this on
No sexuality whatsoever from Staunton. Costume doesn’t help. She has a great vocal apparatus. He is wrong as George. Very hard to play passive but still be active. They come off as a British version of All in the Family. She’s Archie.
you missed my whole point I have seen till death do us part and they are much closer with their bad American accents to the Americanized version which is all in the family done by British Actors. Very broad accents, very working class American. George is a professor add an Ivy League University and Martha is the president’s daughter. Martha is a highly intelligent, witty and sensual human being.
How could anyone sit through this? The film was fascinating with Liz & Dick but to pay watch other actors perform this ordeal nowadays seems pointless.
this is awful. when you've been drinking all night, you don't talk as fast as they do, there is no slurring of words, stumbling or any signs of intoxication. the dialog sounds like a run on sentence, with no pause for a thought or two before responding to a statement. WATCH THE MOVIE AND LEARN.

This is a fantastic production.
Brilliant production! All the actors nailed the comedy, so often missing in so many productions. Albee would love this, I’m certain.
Better than a lot of stage productions. But played very broadly and every line delivered at machine gun pace.
I mean it was a West End production like who doesn’t know of Imelda Staunton
the entire point of the play is to be so chaotic and quick to show the hectic nature of the household/between the characters

The movie is remarkable. I'm surprised to see serious actors and production companies taking it on.
The name of the play is “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Edward Albee, ya know.

it would have been misnamed to avoid a copyright strike. I am glad I found it. It is not available for rent on the NT homepage.

Brillant performance ❤
I love it
Martha is quite annoying. She's shouting every line!
I think she gets the character.

Yes, that's the Martha character.
What a Mess. Does Martha really need to scream EVERY damn line???!
The tagline for this play should be, _I told you we shouldn't have come._
well, if that's how it is, I'll just give it a pass. I like the movie, but don't want to see the story butchered.
In the film Taylor and Burton had a sense of malice and danger about them. In this stage production the actors seem more overtly comical in tone.

Didn’t really get the choice about the shouting and screaming at George for the first 5 minutes I felt exhausted.
Donald Trump doing Broadway plays now 😂

_All in the Family_ was based on the British sitcom _Till Death Do Us Part_ .
Yes I couldn’t think of the name of the series but I knew it was based on a British series
@@paulfouquet6776 There’s a whole list of American TV shows based on British TV shows available on Wikipedia.

Imelda Staunton needs an American accent coach

Wow, Martha’s actress is truly horrific. The worst I’ve ever seen…. anywhere
well...She's not Elizabeth 😳🤔 to loud...🙄
To much
too much?
God Imelda is salted ham. Prefer Taylors interpretation
This was awful. Sorry, but no stage production will EVER surpass Mike Nichol's movie with, Liz, Dick, Sandy and George. Nope.
I agree. No disrespect to this cast, but NOBODY can do this play better than Liz, Richard, Sandy, and George.
@@lydiadugan8368 Apple and oranges. The stage play and the film adaptation are two different art disciplines. The film uses cinematography and film editing of separate takes.
Well that’s because this is a play not a movie both very different art forms and special in their own way
There's no nuance in her performance. One note shrieking.
Wdym? She shows plenty of character multiple time’s especially in the third act
you do it then
