- The deal with the devil also called the faustian bargain, is a pact whereby a person trades something of spiritual importance in exchange for worldly benefits. A common characteristic of pact with a devil in folklore, is that it always come at the cost of the user sometimes leading to death and eternal damnation. History of doing deals with the devil are pretty common throughout the Judeo-Christian world and often exemplified with the tale of the Doctor Faust.
According to the Christian church, the diabolical pact is when a person tries to bargain his soul for diabolical favors, which can include youthfulness, wealth, power and more. But some people would also make these pacts as a sign for their devotion to the devil.
After making a deal with the devil, some conditions maybe impose upon the client, which he or she never break, otherwise they will be jeopardizing the pact that they had made and allowing the devil to take their soul earlier than expected. Based in demonology, a diabolical pact can be either verbal or written, and no evidence is left of the pact, however, sometimes the devil has to touch the conjurer to make sure the deal has effectively been made, which would leave a diabolical mark.

I think what really helped cement the deal with the devil story in our collective consciousness is the German play Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. But I didn’t realize how many folktales and legends revolves around this premise
The devil doesn't make deals with souls that he already owns. Only innocent people does he tempt with a deal
And he usually owns those others already because they committed sin in order to get what they want, and have eternally damned themselves. So they already sold their souls to the devil due to their own weakness. It's the innocent people whom he tempts, and the weaker of them take the deal.
