The entire time they talked about why they dont like power levels just sounded like they dont understand power levels
Which is confusing because it really isnt complicated
Power levels are litteraly just a measurement of power
Vegeta had to have been about 530,000 because he threw down with 1st form freiza
We know this because of basic common sense
Nothing about power levels have ever been bullshit
Them getting absurdly large isnt bullshit either
Its like mesuring a football feild in centimeters and once you get to a certain number you just decide to call it bullshit because its too large
Power levels are not bullshit, the only thing that has ever been wrong with them is that they basicly told you who was going to win the fight before it even started
Which is exactly why it was abandoned
Ive never understood why power levels confused team four star so much, because its a really simple concept both on paper and in practice all throughout dragon ball z when it is in use
If they were confused about how it works in the original dragon ball with those guides then that would have been understandable as its more complicated when you apply them to original dragon ball
But it's use in dragon ball z could not have been more simple
would say lani only got wrong them both them not saying it together.(nappa with jafar's hat still had me giggling uncontrollably.:3)
still love krillin & piccolo's(especially that line.) attacks on freeza in both versions, the 1 up's would explain this version of freeza coming back(always took it that the energy goku gave him was what kept him alive enough to be rebuilt.),gohan getting beat down by freeza is still so brutal with how young he was(kinda why i never got bothered by him not being a fighter outside his own desire.) and yeah power levels did ruin the series with escalation but not bringing the characters up(with that reveal of other time chambers in the super manga only interested if the other z fighters use it.)/it existing only to show freeza's incompetence relying on numbers like a rich person only for some of the fans(and the series in a few areas like the movies.) to fall for it.
Nope finish z off
Hi Bento, just a warning there is a scam artist mirroring your name claiming to be you and saying that viewers have won a Playstation, now that I have called him out and threatened to expose him on CZcams he's threatening my life and my family. I'll post this in the main thread too his tag on comments are fourstarbento1.
Could we please have a bonus commentary of that DBSA short you did maybe after you are at the end of this thing that you are doing
Keeping nail in piccolos head was easily the best change in the DBZA Dub.
That and putting Vegeta , Tien and Cell into a perpetual hate-boner triangle
Not a dub, parody.
@@Scsigs its the dub smart guy
@@DiegoRodriguez-mma DBZA is a _parody,_ not a dub. TFS will tell you that themselves, bro.
nail gun needs to be added to piccolo's repertoire
10:00 I can answer that! It's because Taka wouldn't stop going on about that song! He got me to use it for Kampfer Abridged. So yeah, osmosis from Taka.
Explains alot
Taka seems to be a lot of origin points for the more out there jokes and I have nothing against it. It’s beautiful.
Y'all did Kampfer?!
@@zarcono4546whatfer..?
I didn't know you did kampfer. I just looked it up and was able to find 3 episodes lol
"so we're just going to abuse it?"
"Oh maliciously!"
"Bitchin' how we do?"
Is still probably one of my favourite exchanges in the series and I dunno why it's so funny to me
Lol, I use those lines for similar connotations
It's just funny to hear Piccolo who's the straight man to suddenly vibe with Nail's deathbed assholery. It's almost bizzaro to hear him say bitchin' even though it completely fits
Dude's been on Namek all of five minutes and is already being irreverent of their culture. Gotta love it.
I qoute this anytime I find an exp or farm exploit in an rpg that saves me a shit ton if time
I always thought he said homoliciously
"Wait my son, the planet or me?" "... Yes" will always be my all-time favorite joke
"Friggin smartass" xD
… Yes.
My favorite joke is "I need an adult." "I AM an adult" lol
Mine is picollo trash talking the fat henchman from the lord slug: and that makes you the big though stupid one. Hey! Oke ill take it back, you’re not though.
Yeah I've been using that as a response for years now
Piccolo: "I'm two guys now."
Nail: "'Sup."
That one addition helped out so well, and the fact that only Piccolo hears them makes it even funnier.
"It's good to have you back, Nail."
"I'm not Nail."
("Technically you kind of are.")
"Shut up Nail."
@@marvelsandals4228 “Why are you talking to yourself Nail?”
I like the evolution of that joke
"I'm two guys now"
"I'm three guys now"
Then cell pops up
"Because I'm nine guys, Burgers and Fries"
Well Piccolo was all alone! He couldn’t even get friends on MySpace. Now he’s got a buddy in his head, keeping him company and keeping him honest all of the time.
Piccolo yelling social activity has been my go to notification alert ever since I first saw this
That line by Piccolo made me realize something about his character. He may call Gohan a NERD, but tbh he's the real nerd. He's has few friends, is socially awkward, spends all his time alone, and is so desperately lonely that he is excited for any opportunity to talk to other people (which was his main reason for teaming up with his arch-rival Goku back in episode 1. Goku just offered to add him on myspace. That's all it took)
@@marvelsandals4228 NEEERRDDD
@@marvelsandals4228 Tom you've been replaced!
Now I really want that for my notifications lmafo🤣
Yooo how you do that?
That awkward silence after, “yeah but I’ve never tried to commit genocide” was so great, love you guys
Does playing Fallout 4 and wiping out all the dirty Synths count as genocide? Because that's how the Captain do.
@@bigbaddawg101 Of course not. Those filthy Synths aren't people
@bigbaddawg101 About as much as choosing not to cure the Genophage or siding with either Tali or with Legion in ME3
Always trying to clorf me out of my money…
Kaiser… what did you do?!
I love that Vegeta's "you're not dealing with the average saiyan warrior anymore" thing was turned on him in Broly.
Masakox deserves all the props for Kid Gohan rage voice
Yep. His "skullfucking" line in episode 10 (or was it 9?) is one of my favorite lines in the series.
Yeah, he is incredible with high-pitch voices.
@@David_Fellner it was episode 9
@@maximillianoorosco-randhaw9336 Thanks.
@@David_Fellnerno problem, anytime 👍🏻
"I'm sorry. I'm usually much more composed. I'm just a little bit *_ABSOLUTELY LIVID."_* is my favorite line from the saga if not the entire abridged series. Top 5 easily.
The delivery is perfect, props to Martin
“I don’t get angry. I have people to do that for me.” While I like his posh and smarmy Freeza, Martin shows just how much he can lean into how angry and vengeful the character can get with such superb delivery.
It’s definitely one of my favorite deliveries. I didn’t appreciate the good voice acting until I got older
It works in the story too! Frieza has maybe never had a situation fall apart like this. This was not supposed to be this difficult. He brought his most capable retainers with him. Vegeta killed them all, and now some earthlings are messing everything up. Frieza doesn’t fail like this. His elite troops don’t die to monkeys like Vegeta. He can barely process why and how this went wrong, and now some Earthlings are making things even messier. Why? How? RAGGE
I wonder if I’ll be able to read this
I greatly appreciate the sequel to "Krillin, do you hear that?" "I feel that." being "Krillin, do you feel that?!" "I TASTE THAT!!"
"Wow, do you feel that?"
"Pretty sure my pity well just bottomed out..."
Same
And now we’ve gone even further circle.
“…what’s that smell?”
All the senses!
@@EnsignRicky011 Now if only they had a sightless character say that they could see that.
Bardock yelling "FREIZAAAAAA!" in the background is so underrated.
I love how Nail says ‘P’tak’ to Piccolo when they first meet, after it was established with Dende talking to Freeza that ‘P’tak’ means ‘douche’. It’s something that nobody seems to pick up on, and I just find it neat.
omg that's great lol never noticed that, Nail was probably telling Piccolo Freeza is a douche
'Kill that douche' I think
Thanks for doing the commentary that the actual creators of this parody should be doing, instead of mostly singing along and parroting lines.
@@AarturoSc Hey it’s their video, they get to do what they want with it. I think it’s nice to see which lines they like so much, and it’s not like they haven’t also been explaining the behind-the-scenes.
@@JamUsagi Yeah, and we are free to criticize it. Especially if it’s labeled “Commentary”.
I love Vegeta and Frieza banter, they just bounce off each other so well, but ill be honest the fact that these two were amazing together makes Goku and Freezer banter damn near perfection.
"Oh God, I traded Vegeta for this"
Also I feel like Nail and Kami being voices in Piccolo's head was always a joke in the fandom so I was so happy you guys pulled it off beautifully.
Super made it semi canon with them appearing to Piccolo in that vision
@@SpiritOfWaterMontaru It was already canon; Piccolo claims during his first fight with Cell that Kami gave him the idea to goad Cell into revealing his origins.
It's how Yu-Gi-Oh GX is normally, Jaden just has a demon and a guy on his head at all times.
I'm convinced Yu-Gi-Oh GX dub is the root of all Abridged Series.
@@PaizuruInsanal makes sense since Sean schmeal is in both dbz and gx
I always assumed it was a similar thing that was later done with haru in 50% off (free abridged)
I’ve never seen free, but i feel like the quiet characters who spend most of their time alone and internally monologuing to themself can create a lot of dead air in a parody series since they have no one to bounce off of.
Especially when they’re main characters
The youtuber Calebcity did whole skits on how ridiculous this trope looks from an outsiders perspective where the mc just goes mute for 50 mins
Glad to see we were right and their decision really paid off in actually adding something to the experience that made it unique to the abridged series^^
I really loved the “How’d you know about the parts you weren’t there for?” bit. Because there are so many bullshit clip show episodes of TV where they have a flashback for something a character wasn’t there for.
To this day, we will never know how Freeza knew about the parts he wasn't there for. Seriously, what was he thinking right after Vegeta said that when he transformed? Did he just become self-aware and realize he was in a fictional story with plot holes? It might have been funny if he actually reacted to it like "Well, that's easy I-uhhh... (wait, how did I know about that?)"
I actually think it could also be used to set up a creepy moment in something:
"How'd you know about the parts you weren't there for?"
"Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I can't see you"
@@grantwinter-helms5410 because of the great grandson of raisins
@@marvelsandals4228 Most of that scene was filler, in the manga Frieza just said he killed Vegeta's father and left it at that
@@MarkoDash lol I forgot about that joke. That's one of my favorites. BECAUSE OF RAISINS! ...Rasins is my intel guy.
FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS I LAY DORMANT WHO DARES DISTURB MY SLUM-!!!! Oh... It is you my master... Thank you for this episode!
i like how it implies he just does that all the time to fuck with whoever collected the dragon balls, since we know damn well they were used like a year before that
"Am I? Am I REALLY?!" might be my most quoted line from this series.
DODGE!
"NOT IMPRESSED, I CAN DO THAT TOO!!!"
Same here
“Think! What would dad do in this situation!?”
“Bye son!”
“I’m beginning to think I have issues.”
Oh, Gohan 😂😂😂😂
The Vegeta "Welp, he's dead" line is one of my all time favorites. Just the absolute casualness he throws it out to himself. Like he's making a mental note to himself
“Woman, dumbass and Boy sent me a card. Even the Namakein sent me something. Triclops flipped me off. Why didn’t the midget send me something?
Welp, he’s dead.”
Hey Scott, thanks for using my old remix of Magus' theme. I wear it as a badge of honour and have since the first time I've watched these episodes!
Great remix!
The Grand Vizier Nappa bit still fkn kills to me this day. 10/10 joke easily
My favorite is the Broly movie quote “CAN SOMEONE FETCH ME A BETTER DAGGER SO I CAN PROPERLY STAB THIS BABY!”
"Stab the baby."
The silence after Kaiser says mid thirties was hilarious.
Yeah, "hilarious". Not soul-crushingly relatable. Nope. Not at all.
No, YOU'RE getting old. Shut up!
Me at exactly 30:..........
Also in Chrono Trigger, you fight and defeat Magus before he joins your side, kinda like Piccolo. Music choices were always a nice touch with these episodes.
Magus' theme was incredibly well suited for Piccolo's appearance. Excellent job.
I would have loved the number 1 from bleach tho.😂
Magus' theme makes itself even better because both him and Piccolo are villains who joined the heroes
Always loved that nod to Chrono Trigger
@@TheReaIestOne Someone has to do a re-edit of that right now.
@@timothyryan8983 yeah😁
I remember discovering DBZA when you guys were at this episode and having to wait MONTHS between new episodes. Now I get to rewatch 2 eps a week with your commentary. This is the life
"Dust this bitch!!" is a line that never fails to crack me up lmao
Nail staying in Piccolo's head is one of the best characterization choices you guys made, honestly like it better than the source material.
I will never not crack up at “Well if you’ll excuse me, I have to go DIE again!”
Scott's reaction to Lani's "I've never tried to commit a genocide" was absolutely perfect and hilarious.
I like how you established Freeza knowing things he wasn't there for, and then Cell knew the entire story of Dragon Ball up to that point.
Eh, Cell knowing everything works. My head canon is Dr. Gero has been obsessively researching every mundane aspect of Goku's life since childhood & following him around with his insect robots, so he could set things up so all this information was fed into Cell's brain somehow. Maybe once Cell hatched he read Dr. Gero's computer in the lab he was grown in. On the other hand, in abridged he is a sort of "deadpool" -like character who points out tropes and breaks the fourth wall, so I don't mind
Considering Cell knows the techniques of every warrior Gero sampled to create him, it's likely he has their memories in some form.
But the Nanoborgs were destroyed when Vegeta and Nappa showed up, plus they didn't know about Namek, so how did he know the events of the Namek Saga?
And now Nail and Kami being in Piccolo’s head and still being there is NOW CANON in Super! It’s awesome. :)
Wait WHAT? Can you supply a volume of chapter?
@@jasondday In the anime, episode 118 “Accelerating Tragedy Vanishing Universes”. Piccolo get beating down by the 2 U6 Namekains and is about to get blasted… but Gohan takes the hit for Piccolo this time and as he dose so we get a peak inside Piccolo’s mind where we see Kami and Nail. Kami then points out to Piccolo that the U6 Namekains have absorbed ALL of the other U6 Namekains. As Gohan takes the hit Piccolo then Special Beam Cannons the Namekains away. “So this is the power of Universe 7’s Namekain…” one says as he’s launched out of the arena and then teleported to the belchers. It’s a much better fight then the Manga’s Gohan Vs Kefla.
Also, the 1-UP gag now indirectly references how many times Freeza has been canonically revived.
In the moment where Piccolo does his I can win speech. I seriously thought I was hearing Chris Sabat. Well done Lani.
You were, they said they pulled it straight from the episode
@@duoblackrose4381 They pulled the dialogue in the script straight from the original dub but it was still TFS that was doing the voice acting.
y'know what's even better... knowing that that particular bit of dub dialogue has now been recited 3 times... first by Chris Sabat, then by Scott McNeil (in a flashback in the Buu Saga in the Westwood Dub) then by TFS's own Lanipator... and the best part is, the cheesiness and hilarity doesn't diminish in each.
Kaiser, I just want you to know that my favorite part of this episode is consistently seeing the photshopped Jaffar hat. It never fails to crack me up
The use of Magus Theme at the end is unironically fitting and badass.
I didn't know about the connection at all, but it just felt right. Lani said they considered using "Number One" there instead and I'm glad they didn't, as the scene was much better with an instrumental track. Great song as stated, but just wouldn't be the right place for it.
"I have to go die again" is what I say when I go watch a new DB movie cosplaying King Vegeta and they have another flashback to his death.
I just now got Vegeta's "That bastard." line. God I love this so much
To watch this commentary now after watching this episode when it first came out JUST to finally understand this joke...
Embarrassing moment for me.
Same. I thought he said it because he saw Dende healing and was calling him a bastard but this made the joke even funnier.
I feel so dumb because after all these years I thought he was seeing and responding to Dende healing Gohan.
Being immortal doesn't mean vegeta couldn't kill him. Immortal just means Krillin'd live forever. But could still be killed
I have to tell you guys, "Dust this bitch" is one of my most quoted lines from this show. Absolutely gets me every time.
"SOCIAL ACTIVITYYYYYYYY!!!!!" is my ringtone for any notification from social media
16:30 wow whoever made that final call to not reference a baby killer made the right decision
That whole sequence of Freeza explaining how he killed King Vegeta is probably my favorite in all the series.
King Vegeta killing the smartass, him taking advice from Nappa, the Shoryuken bit, concluding with "How do you know about the parts you weren't there for?" comment, it's just fun none stop.
a man that
I enjoy getting to get the behind the scenes info but I also really love when they just get quiet and enjoy their own work. As a creative I know it can be hard to not cringe and just be proud of what youve made.
100% the best writing decision ever made. Having Nail be a voice in Piccolos head is *Chefs kiss*.
Honestly vegeta's delivery of "ballroom blitz" always made me think it was an under known move name
To this day, I still quote "How'd you know about the parts you weren't there for" whenever something pulls a flashback that has scenes without the flashbacking character.
12:40 Yeah...that was a joke in one of the Smash Bros. tips with Ryu's Shoryuken. "Can you do it? SURE YOU CAN!" and with Palutena's Guidance on Ryu.
Time for the perfect "Just one" moment.
You know the one thing I love about this Thing That They're Doing? They quote all of our favourite lines just as enthusiastically as we do.
The way black and white filter while Freeza was singing was a good touch, and I wholeheartedly approve
Kaiser: "I still don't know why you went with ballroom blitz."
Lani: "Bold of you to assume i know why i went with ballroom blitz."
“Oh, I’m sorry, I’m usually far more composed! I’m just a little bit *absolutely livid*” is the #1. Take all your most popular picks and throw them out, that’s the GOAT
I'm so glad TFS kept Nail and Kami around in Piccolo's head their interactions were always comedy Gold
Piccolo with Nail is by far my most fav character, I love their dynamic.
15:44 YEEEES! This scene always stuck out in my brain as a kid cause of the dub having him go "I can't breathe" as he's dying. Shit scarred as a kid
So cells urge to sing in a fight comes from freiza. love that
Magus' theme works so well for Piccolo. that entire scene is so satisfying. great job guys
Lani doing *''YES, YES, YES I CAN WIN! I FEEL GREAT"* again was seriosuly a huge dream that finally came true!
4:10 7:00 17:37 Lani act along the show is one of the best things of these videos.
4:32-4:36 I love majority of lines from the Freeza saga, but I ADORE this one.
Oh my god, all these years I thought Vegeta’s “that bastard” was him figuring out Dende had healed Krillin.
Same
I just love freeza saying “huh, that happened”
I really hope Taka can join in for season 3. Even if they have to zoom him in or something
What up bitches, he's here
EPISODE 25 LET’S GOOOOOO love y’all!
Seeing Nappa in that hat was one of the most low key hilarious things in the episode. It's not even really a joke, it's funny for some reason.
Loved the Bleach shout-out. It deserves the recognition the TYBW arc is bringing!
Lani and Kaiser going full nerd mode with power levels chat made me laugh.
Every once in a while in the beginning they realize how old they are again and it is depressingly funny.
That Casey Anthony joke would’ve been so savage for no reason, I love it, but I understand why that didn’t happen.
Back in college, there was an anime club that got together every week. We were out of the current stuff but wanted something to end the session, so one of the seniors threw on this specific episode.
It was the first time I'd ever heard of Dragonball Z Abridged.
You guys were already finished with the Freeza saga and hadn't started season 3 yet, so it was pretty perfect. I binged through the entire archive and was somehow able to finish RIGHT as you released episode 31.
And as you can probably tell, I still watch your stuff to this day. You do good work.
The vizier hat story is so funny, I'd never even thought there was a reason behind it. Also I love the touch of making the entire screen black and white when Freeza starts his song
I was playing through Chrono Trigger when I first watched this ep, so hearing the Magus theme with Piccolo's entrance got me hyped so fast.
I’m glad you guys used Magus’s Theme for Piccolo’s arrival. It’s so incredibly fitting to his character and also just an undeniable bop
You should get Taka or Martin on at some point. Their performances as Frieza and Cell are so great
I have an absolutely abysmal sense of humor because I laughed at “I’m going to go play Casey Anthony”
The fact that it’s been years and I could go back to this over and over just timeless comedy
Keeping kami and nail was probably one of the best changes you made. The reason it works so well is because of how the namekian fusion works, they decide on who is the main conciousness and other one becomes a part of the subconscious.
It's different from normal fusion where the two characters combine into one single entity that shares both of their consciousness as one single entity and the way that you guys handled it is perfect because kami and nail are still in there they just have no control over the body.
12:10 the best part is that this commentary was posted the day after the 30th anniversary of Aladdin
This episode is what got me to actually read the manga, and I'm so glad I did.
What about this episode made you want to read the manga out of curiousity?
Another one of my favourite Frieza lines in this episode - "I'm just a little bit Absolutely Livid."
"how did you know the parts you weren't there for" that will always be my favorite line from dbza of all time. i can not tell you how many times i've said that every time there's a flashback in a show where there's no way people could know the parts they weren't there for.
this thing that you're doing has been one of my favorite things to watch lately, always look forward to the next episode
I wish we had a short of Nail and Kami just hanging out in Piccolo's head. Like A Day In The Life thing.
I loved the writing for this episode and how everyone delivered their lines. This is always a fun ep to come back to
ya know i always thought it was a missed joke setup where Gohan turns Dende's crush down just cus he told Frieza theyre from Earth in this episode
Really enjoying rewatching the series with you guys. Having the creator commentary if fantastic
16:40 I don't normally say this, but I'm glad you guys didn't pick that joke..lmao
Great work guys.
The abridged series really brought a lot of joy to me and my dear ones.
4:30
What's really funny is that the reason Frieze is livid is because he usually has people to get upset for him, but now they're all dead.
Episode 25 was my introduction to DBZA. I marathoned the previous episodes in one weekend. And I've never looked back. Thank you, Team Four Star.
7:09 realises he has a booger.
7:15 pickin his nose
7:26 rolling the booger
7:39 eats the booger...
A thrilling saga that the DIDN'T HIDE!
I came here SPECIFICALLY to see if anyone else noticed this. WHY IS THIS SO FAR DOWN THE LIST??? 🤣
You know how most people have a comfort series? DBZA is my comfort series
This episode was actually the first one that got me into DBZA
Magus theme was perfect. Literal perfection for that scene imo and probably less likely to be striked against
I love how every solar flare bit is being edited to the full screen 💜💜💜
This was the latest episode out when I first started watching you guys. Probably my most rewatched one.
14:08 I have found myself quoting or just thinking this particular line from the show sooooooooooooooooo many times since this first aired. That particular one. "Am I? Am I _really?"_ It has just stuck with me so hard over the years. God I love that delivery so much. The casual massive explosion afterward really sells it too, just mmm
I recall reading that power levels were always supposed to be an in universe mistake, the sheer folly of trying to put a number to one's power and potential, hence why scouters constantly blow up or get fooled, it was always supposed to be something that was going to be broken by the story and left behind, you'll note that even the Clinical Gero never bothered with hard numbers on power levels.
I love using Frieza's line of "I'm just a bit ABSOLUTELY LIVID" when I'm super pissed
